This is an AMAZING gym. Professor Daniel is absolutely one of the best. I started attending classes here 8 months ago and through professor's thoughtful curriculum, I have built a strong foundation and developed many basic techniques and some advanced techniques. The curriculum moves fast and he teaches a lot which translates to quick learning and if you are a good student, you can advance your techniques quickly. As a white belt I competed in my first competition and won all 8 matches that day even beating a blue belt. I strongly attribute this to Professor's teaching. The Gym does a great job of working technique and rolling hard every class. There are a lot of skilled athletes that attend so it makes the classes challenging and fun. More...

I've been a member of Professor Pinheiro's academy for about four months as of the writing of this review and I can say with great confidence that I don't think I could ask for a better atmosphere. My first day I was welcomed by all the other members of the gym and made to feel at home. Professor Pinheiro is an incredibly knowledgable and accomplished Jiu-Jitsu practitioner who takes time every class to make sure all students understand the concepts and the execution of the technique he instructs. Going on 6 months in, Team Shark is awesome! Professor Pinheiro is an amazing instructor. He is prepared and capable of training a 40ish white belts like me or a decorated champion. It is very profesional and Proffesor Pinheiro teaches different techniques and you will get paired up with someone at your level for grappling. This gym is the best gym I’ve put my daughter in. Daniel is attentive to the children and very professional. We came from Alaska and out of all the gyms he was responsive and very supportive. This gym was my first pick as I moved to San Antonio. Professor Daniel was very friendly and respectful and he pays great attention to his students and is very knowledgeable. I've been training with Team Shark for about a year and a half. I have trained at other gyms before but my skills have increased at a much faster rate here. I chose Team Shark over all the other gyms in San Antonio because the classes are taught directly by a multiple time world champ. Joining Team Shark BJJ has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Professor Daniel and his staff promote a great atmosphere and learning environment to all levels of Jiu Jitsu practitioners. The gym is like an extended family, where everybody takes care of each other. Professor Daniel also has a great BJJ program for kids of all ages. If you're looking to make yourself better in every way, Team Shark BJJ is the way to go!

Update: I’ve been training at Team Shark for over a year and I’m still satisfied with the environment and training at this facility. I will recommend the gym with out any bought. Awesome place to train, very clean it does not even smell bad, showers on site. Professor Daniel Pinheiro is a great professor and a humble person he really care about his kids and everyone that makes part of the family, because once you get in you become family. My personal experience is awesome it have been the best decision I have made to bring my son. Not only The kids can train we have family's members training together. The gym have become one of my favorites places in town. Les recomiendo el gimnasio a cualquier persona sin duda alguna. The best decision I have made. My son was having a problem with another kid at school, it was hard for him to concentrate on school since the other kid was bullying him. I decide to enroll my son to be able to defend himself from the other kid before it got fiscal. Since the moment I came to visit the professor Daniel Pinheiro, I knew it was going to be for the best interest of my son. I explain the situation that my son was having and he told me to bring him for a tryout that same day. We came, he got to know my son, he did the tryout and since that day my son has been coming to class without losing interest, I'm so happy to be part of the Team Shark family. It's been two months and my son not only improve the situation at school but his behavior has changed too. Daniel takes the time to teach them one on one, he built the kids confidence and gain their respect and trust. I recommend it more than 100%. We've been at it for just over a year now. All 3 of our children are involved as a physical activity, sport and discipline. Our middle son, Camden, has come leaps and bounds in confidence. We see it in his everyday behavior. The Silent One is no longer silent. All 3 have learned the benefits to hard training, they've overcome loses and they've done it all with respect. They don't earn participation trophies or false awards for just showing up, they'll be told "no," corrected when wrong, counselled when needed too. For what is offered, the price is fair and the bond with the other students, Adults AND Children alike, is great. Every person who steps on the mat is there for the benefit of another.
Professor Daniel Pinheiro maintains his pursuit of a distinguished art and lays the burden of growth on the student. Meaning, the student wont grow just because you pay your membership fees. They need to participate, show progression and be a member of Team Shark. They can't be a fly on the wall or someone's shadow.
You have nothing to lose by taking a free class, walking in to watch a class, or even talking to any of the students or parents involved. JiuJitsu levels the field. My 3 boys are all of different statures, they each have a benefit to their size or skill and they're learning to fine tune it just right.

After reading the reviews here I thought I'd give mine too.
Of all the dojos where I have trained this is the one where I feel at home. The team is like my family and we try to support each other on and off the mats. All of my team mates are like my brothers and sisters.
I know some people complain about prices and contracts. Those people forgot that Team Shark offers nice discounts to people who have good attendance so we are rewarded for being dedicated.
The school is always looking to bring people in, so professor always has new specials for everyone every month. I know gis can be expensive, but professor wll always work something out if you ask.

My son and I both train at team shark and we love it. Professor Daniel has been nothing but professional and caring to my needs as well as my sons. My son has been with team shark for almost 2 years I have been with them for eight months ..... professor Daniel has been so patient with me as I am 40 years old and overweight he pushed me to keep going when I felt like stopping and he made sure to go step-by-step so that I actually understood what I was doing. Unfortunately everybody has an Has an opinion; some may have valid points and some may just be talking outward to cause Rucus!
