Great Indian food that wont disappoint, also has a buffet at certain times so it's a great place to get a wide variety of choices if your a newbie or have a big appetite.

This is the oldest and best Indian restaurant in the city. Their lunch buffet selections are all delicious with just the right amount of heat and spice. The goat curry is a particular treat. The food was delicious . It was how Indian food should taste like. The entire family enjoyed the meal. The meat was tender, the vegetarian dishes were on spot. Five out of five I would give it 6. It was so amazing. Fresh food. The owner was so fantastic. He told me about each dish and led me through a fantastic meal. The lamb kabob, fried spinach, the curries. Everything was so wonderful. Besan Barfi and warm carrot pudding for dessert. I already want to come back again and will the next time I am in town. I came to Taj Palace while visiting Austin for a few days before a conference. This is a Northern Indian restaurant, so if you are used to the southern style then you should adjust your expectations before eating here. The food is delicious and also came in very generous portions. We ordered chicken makhani and lamb vindaloo. Both were spicy and flavorful and incredibly satisfying. The naan and rice were also tasty. The buffet was an option, but we opted for menu-ordering instead.The staff was kind and attentive, and the atmosphere was nice. It's in a strip mall, so that's the outside-the-restaurant ambiance. But that means there's plenty of parking, so that's a plus.I will definitely be back next time I'm in Austin! More...

This place is the most authentic Indian food in the Austin from what I have tried so far. The outside of the restaurant makes it seem like a hole-in-the-wall (which are the best), but the inside decor is done so well. The food is very good at a good price too! I suggest getting the tandoori chicken, chicken kadai, and the aloo paratha. Honestly, though, everything is just good and served fresh on a hot platter. Low lighting, elegant atmosphere.TIPS:(1) Their website says that Tuesday is the all-vegetarian buffet, but doesn't mention that that's for the dinner buffet only, not lunch. However, we went to the Tuesday lunch buffet and there were *lots* of vegan options, not just vegetarian.(2) Dinner buffet is Monday and Tuesday only.(3) If you want vegan bread, ask for roti, not naan.
