Having been at Synergy for nearly two years now, I can confidently say that this gym is really great. For the price, you really get a great experience. The equipment is nice, clean, and the trainers are excellent. I've asked Jeremiah for help with rope climbs and he was quick to respond and make time to help me out, even though he's not my personal trainer! The staff really goes above and beyond to be helpful to their clients, giving tips and help with exercise form, etc. I had to cancel my membership recently (has nothing to do with the gym itself) and the process was easy and painless. Having experienced cancelling memberships elsewhere in town, I was anxious about how complicated and stressful it might be. The director of member services, Mark, was helpful and understanding and made the whole thing smooth as can be - I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a gym with a great pool, great staff, and clean facilities! Synergy has private locker rooms. These locker rooms are reserve only for those member who are willing to pay an extra $95 a month. However Synergy management and staff use it for their break room. I have a reserved locker in this private area of the Club. On a morning I was there four different employees came in within 2 hours and use the bathroom, sink, mirrors, and even cellphones. This is the way to work out, super fun gym,  lots to do.  The pools assess my favorite part of it, the biggest bummer is that I was most excited for sauna and it's been broken down in the women's locker since I've started. 1 month later....----------------OK the previous version was my "first impressions"* I still like saying hello to Jamie and Mark and Harmony when I walk in* I have settled in with Cory as my new personal trainer.  Getting used to his style The result is that I now SHOW UP to the gym because I like the people and the place.  I am typically getting in 3 days of strength training, one with Cory.  I am getting two days of intense interval training and one "long and slow" for my cardio.The result is that I have lost 6.1 pounds and 5.9 pounds of that was F A T.I'm a happier guy as a result!   First impression ...------------------I changed gyms to Synergy Health Club.Why?* I like the sign on the entry door "We're glad you're here".  I've never seen that on any gym I've been a member of.* I like being greeted with a smile by a person wearing a name tag so I can get to know the staff by name.  It's pretty apparent that the staff LIKES working here and their attitude is infectious.* I like the machines, the rooms, the changing room, and food area being immaculate.  All these simple things are what gym web sites promise.  Why the heck is it so rare that they 'walk the talk'?  The manager must hire great people and manage eveto make this happen. Been going to this health club for years, but just joined Yelp so I finally get to give the team a review! The overall experience has been amazing for my husband and me. We're huge fans of the pools (though I do wish they'd up the degrees just a bit more in winter) and I love the Aqua Bootcamp. 4-stars because they should plan ahead to skim leaves out just before morning classes during fall/winter classes when the wind picks up, Club One and Active always did this. Mark in membership is a great dude.  Very friendly, not pushy, super inviting.  Always says hello and remembers your name.  That's Huge in my book.  Very personal.  Some of the other front desk staff are duds but most are nice enough.  The pool is always crowded so be ready to wait for a lane or to ask to share one.  (Awkward but necessary ).  No one ever seems to be at the snack bar, I still don't know if they make smoothies or anything? But overall this place is clean, inviting, has new equipment, and not a lot of jocks dropping weights.  Only a few .  Seems very family friendly and the swim lessons are basically the cutest.  I love the new running treadmills !!!! I really enjoy this club - I had my doubts, I'm more of a garage gym goer than a "fancy club" gym person BUT, turns out that I love getting greeted cheerfully, plus the sauna! !! and a sports massage by Tim is not to be missed! Tim is one of the best masseuses I've ever worked with and is a lovely fellow to boot! The trainers are also first class, Jeremiah worked with me to get back in the cadence of a full body workout and introduced me to the sled which is now my favorite way to torture myself. So now I'm fancy, sadly, I'm not sure you can ever go back to basic! There are some odd things they need to improve pronto (1 star off for that because when they asked I let them know and it hasn't been addressed) - like only one set of 20 pound weights on the main dumbbell rack - when it's busy, this means you have to go lower or higher then you may want or hover over the guy that has them. This is a silly thing that could be easily fixed - it would indicate that the people who work there don't actually work out there - because watching the clients for an hour or two would highlight the need quickly and it's no longer on trend to be lifting crazy heavy dumbbells. Horrible, absolutely horrible! But that's only because I want it all to myself!  Actually it's pretty great. Good atmosphere, amenities & food.  Lots of classes included although I don't use them & their dumbbell rack goes up to 120 which is decent for a family gym.  Multiple squat racks, deadlift/shrug stations and a couple of smiths.  Never seen a wait on cardio (what's cardio ) but I go during odd hours.  Hot tub, pool/s, sauna all top notch.  If you join though go during the sheeple hours as I hate when things are crowded More...

I live in Marin county and work in Santa Rosa. I decided to stop by to check it out and Diego gave me a 3 day pass. It was not a hard decision. Mark signed me up on the third day. This gym is very clean and roomy. I still haven't seen it crowded or smelly. The staff are very professional and friendly. Another update... I was not a member of Club One/Active between 2012 and summer 2014. Upon rejoining in August 2014, I also gave the Itrim program a try. Thanks to Itrim, Deb Johansen (who oversees the program), and the trainers who run the Itrim classes, I've lost over 30 pounds and am in better shape now than when I was in my 20's. The group dynamic of Itrim is supportive, encouraging, and made all the difference as I work to improve my health!I continue to appreciate the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the entire facility. I really enjoy this gym. Super nice staff and great kids club. Great place for families. Only wish there was more weight machines. Great place for plyo, hiit, and cardio. Not sure about the classes yet. Pool area and amenities are great. Front desk and kids club staff is awesome. Cardio machines are awesome. Fantastic gym. The equipment is great, and there are clear directions of where to start - and there are many of each machine. The iTrim weight circuit makes strength training really easy and simple. Been here for about a month now. It is always clean and has a great selection of equipment. I like the full service health club style gym. I have some other memberships and like to mix it up by coming here where everything is nice. I love the locker rooms and showers. They provide everything from mouth wash to shampoo. Been a member for nearly 2 years now and still love this gym. They have more group exercise classes than any other gym in town.  No matter what you prefer you can find it here. A few months ago they moved the elliptical machines to the center of the cardio area, making space at the end for the small group classes.  This was a huge improvement. That class now has everything they need in one place without interfering with others who are on machines. While I personally cannot participate in that class due to an injury, I just LOVE working out close to them because of their enthusiasm and camaraderie.  They encourage classmates to do their best, to finish a set - it's infectious.  Recently I noticed a new class for those beginning a workout program and those with injuries for longevity and improving functional movement and strength. Once I have a chance to try this class I will update my review. The locker room is always clean with fresh towels and supplies. The equipment is well maintained. Plenty of trainers if you want to have personal training sessions (extra cost). There is a snack bar, two pools, spa, iTrim program, babysitting and both the staff and members are friendly.Things I would improve to rate Active 5 stars:1.  I would reduce the price of Pilates Reformer classes2.  The trainers are available for questions but I would prefer they check in on us as well, just be a little more proactive to ask our goals or ask if we had questions - perhaps even a "meet the trainer" evening (or videos on the website) where they each talk about their credentials and philosophy on exercise/health More...

After much searching for the right gym, I felt like Goldilocks looking for what was just right. I found it thanks to my guy's suggestion and love it! While there are a few things that are hiccups (looking at you rude gym weight hogs) the facilities themselves are great! I love the fact that the pool is outdoors and when I'm done with my laps I can go rejuvenate in the sauna or schedule a massage at the spa. The employees are always very nice and helpful, especially if you are like me and accidentally lock yourself out of your locker..... This is such a friendly, clean and well organized club with many great things to offer. First of all, the staff is very friendly and engaged and the manager Sergio is wonderful and responsive. The workout facility is open and spacious and has quality machines. Yvette is a great trainer and wonderful to work with. The massages here are fantastic!!! From my perspective, Active is the very best of the "higher end" sports clubs in Petaluma.  It's like Cheers - - - everyone knows your name and is super friendly when you come and go.  While they're spot on with every detail, there is ZERO pretentiousness, it's still laid back Petaluma.  Oh and did I mention, they know your kids?Speaking of kids, they provide the very best care around for your kids.  My children ASK to go to Kids' Club.  They never leave without a picture, art project or some other wonderful creation involving glitter that would NEVER happen at home.Should we talk about the training?  I can't believe I am capable of typing this right now because my triceps and chest want to disown me!!  Along that line, they offer a wonderful program called FIT (it isn't included in the membership, but if you play it right, you're definitely taking advantage of them!  AND THEY LIKE IT THAT WAY!!) where you basically get personal training for a literal fraction of the cost.  That's something to be seriously excited about, right?Unless your name is Sally (see Sally's super negative review and then notice that she's kind of a negative yelper in general), and you're super grumpy at life.  And you're on a treadmill, in the middle of a class with one of the most uplifting people of all time.  Who I won't name because that is classless (make a note, Sally from Santa Rosa).  I was in a class where we were to be on the treadmills for a whopping three minutes.  Said trainer was pushing us...HARD....because that's what he does and that's why we appreciate all he does for us.  Play by play unnecessary, but Sally was just an awful person and I can only hope she was formerly a sailor because her language was inexcusable, if not.Fine, I'll stoop to Sally's classlessness and name name.  JACOB FULTON, you are Active and Active is you!  We are lucky you chose us and not the other way around!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!LIVE ACTIVELY! I have been to all the "high end" clubs in Sonoma County - Airport, FountainGrove, etc. This by far exceeds all of them. I was always disappointed at other clubs from cleanliness to overall environment. I have been a member since early 2010. The facility is immaculate. They have everything. Cleanliness is clearly as important to them as it is for me. The staff is professional, accommodating and friendly - always a welcome and goodbye coming and going. The facility offers a variety of amenities including lap pool, hot tub, steam, showers, towels, products (shampoo, body wash, mouth wash), lockers and an endless variety of equipment, classes, highly qualified trainers and much more. The massage therapists are great as well. You can get a full massage in the spa or a chair massage near the fire place. They have beautiful lounge areas inside and out including a media center with computers and a printer, tv's throughout, lounge areas outside with comfortable seating, bbqs and don't forget the water slide. Again, I've been to all the clubs and I live and work from home in Guerneville and drive 45 minutes each way just to go to this club. I have a Hybrid SUV so I'm doing the best I can to reduce my carbon footprint given the distance. I could have and should have written this review long ago as I'm very happy here, but I'm doing so now because I was shocked this week by the bizarre and childish behavior of an "adult" club member Sally who has left a review here. While I was on a cardio machine, she started screaming four letter words at a trainer because she was upset that the fitness class was too loud for her. After the trainer was calm and rational with her advising that they would try and accommodate her request to keep the volume of the training session down, she escalated the situation with a hostile verbal assault. This is a high end gym but still a gym, not a meditation retreat. If you want absolute silence, wear ear plugs. I'm sensitive to my environment and it's never bothered me. This members behavior was completely out of line, unreasonable and bizarre for an adult at the very best. Her immediate and extreme hostile demeanor was very unsettling. I don't blame her for quitting the gym, she should be humiliated for her temper tantrum. On that note, the club also offers child care services and family locker rooms for children.  I commend the trainer for managing the bizarre situation the best he could on behalf of the club and other club members.  Active is a great club. I'm very happy going there, even 45 minutes away. Don't listen to Sally, she's clearly misplaced her medication. Let's hope she finds it before she attacks her own lawn mower for being too loud. I am a member of Active Sports in Almaden Valley and happened to be up in Petaluma so stopped by to workout. This club is located near Kohls off N McDowell Blvd and Redwood Way near 101 freeway.  Nice large car park.The front desk staff is friendly. They have a really nice changing room and lockers that you program your own key digitally, no fee. Individual shower cubicles with doors, not communal showers like some clubs. The locker area has very good airflow, did not smell of sweaty socks, the bathroom odor did not linger, definitely A+, it smells cleaner and better than the Almaden Valley locker room which is disgusting at times!The ground floor is essentially a changing area (men and womens locker rooms, showers) and meeting rooms. They also have a shop that serves food and health drinks. They have two swimming pools, one for lane swimming and one for children or adults just to hang out with a slide. My teen kids who are also members loved it. On the second floor is the cardio, free weights and machines. Really open area, lots of light and not too crowded. I did not see any personal trainers working out with any clients or on the floor so cannot comment on their friendliness or knowledge.I did like some of their equipment, but it was missing the hammer strength bench press machines, shoulder shrug machine and ab deck that I use at the Almaden branch. So I give this club changing rooms, pool, 4 stars, free weights 5 stars and the machine/ weight equipment 3 stars. This is a wonderful health club. Mark is the membership manager and he is awesome!! Talk to him about a membership or even a pass to try it out! ! This is hands down the best health club/gym in the county! The women's locker room is very clean. Towels galore. Good shampoo/conditioner/body wash. The steam room and sauna are SUPER clean. NOTE: I am not a member at this club, so this review is based on a tour of, and communications with, the club. If we end up joining, I will update the review after going a few times. Pros:-VERY helpful and friendly desk worker! She answered all of our questions, was very cheerful, and told us all about the club. We left our email so they could get back to us with pricing info, and they emailed us within a few hours, so that was great.-Very clean and open.-The locker rooms have all the amenities you could want! Mouthwash, hair-dryers, lotion, etc. -Lots of chairs to lounge out by the pool.-Nice, newer exercise equipment. -Beautiful group workout room. -Looks like there is a good variety of group classes, also, the classes meet at convenient times for me. I'm so happy I joined Active Sports in Petaluma (formerly Club One). It took me a while to ramp up to using the facility as I was traveling December and January, though now that I have been around - I am so appreciative. First off, the facilities themselves are impeccably clean. I always had shied away from locker rooms in the past, though this is so clean and comfortable that I was even able to get ready for a work commitment after swimming the other day. The staff in the locker room are always super-attentive and very friendly. It feels like being at a resort spa. People treat the equipment with respect and are always making sure it is clean, so there is a great precedent and standard set.Next, the choices for fitness are nearly limitless. There are numerous cardio options, great strength-training possibilities, an Olympic sized lap pool, a separate pool for aerobics and other activities, a pilates room and a couple of other studios for yoga, etc. I am probably still missing something (so go for a preview package that is offered). Not only do you have choices - but also I have found that I am able to access what I need when I show up, which creates a stress-free (other than the workout of course) experience.Finally, the trainers/instructors are phenomenal. So far, I have met with Sarah for one personal training session, Karen and Joey for refining swimming lessons and have taken several yoga classes. All of the sessions have exceeded my expectations.
