Mandolin Experts in western Mass are few and hard to find. Since Downtown Sounds closed its mandolin shop, it's nice to know that you can still get mandolin services in the area! Private lessons online and in person on mandolin, mandola and mandocello, octave mandolin and Irish bouzouki, as well as sales of mandolins and related products. More...

I asked at Fretted Instruments (mandolin shop in Amherst) for recommendation for the best mandolin teacher in western MA. They told me Adam Sweet of Sweet Music Studio . At the time, Mr. Sweet was teaching in Holyoke, and I took lessons there. After about a year, he encouraged me to join the mandolin orchestra. He's a patient, kind, encouraging teacher and I recommend him to everybody. More...

Someone suggested I take violin lessons from Adam Sweet in Granby. He was actually recommended by several stores that I visit: Fretted Instruments in Amherst, Downtown Sounds in Northampton and David Baker Violins in Vermont. I bought a violin from David and asked him for a teacher recommendation. He recommended Mr. Sweet. I've been taking lessons for about a year and hope to join the Celtic group on Thursdays soon. I'm also thinking of taking mandolin lessons. More...

It's amazing to find a local space that caters to musicians in the way that this one does. Here you'll learn how to play the fiddle, the mandolin, or the guitar in a way that encompasses not just the instrument itself, but the history of music relating to it. For example, you'll learn about the history of traditional Irish music if you want to study celtic music, about American roots music if you want to study bluegrass, and about the influence of the Roma if you want to study Klezmer. Highly recommended. They also rent instruments (violins, mandolins and guitars) and sell bows, accessories and strings. More...

I went to the store to find a good teacher and Tony said if you really want to learn to play the mandolin, there is no better teacher than Adam Sweet in Granby, MA. He was right. Dude's very flexible - has lots of free time during the day. I work at UMass, so I can zip down there during my lunch break and be back in time. Very convenient. More...

Retired physician from Holyoke, MA. Signed up for Mandolin lessons about 5 years ago. Got a referral from Fretted Instrument Workshop in Amherst for "the best mandolin teacher in western Mass". Mr. Adam Sweet taught me how to play the instrument, how to read music and how to be in love with the mandolin. I play every day now, with friends and in an orchestra. I am now thinking of taking fiddle lessons with him. I see he rents fiddles as well. That's good. More...
