A post Hurricane Dorian dinner at my favorite restaurant tucked away in Thalia on the Lynn Haven Inlet. It's been 3 years since I've had an opportunity to visit. Was blessed by the same person I dined with 3 years ago. We arrived before the busy later dinner hour and greeted first by the Valet parking attendant. Then as we entered this beautiful restaurant we were greeted by a very friendly hostess. As soon as we were seated we were promptly brought toast and butter, water and a drink menu.  Was delighted to see they still had Fess Parker Chardonnay on the wine menu which we both selected. Lots of special dishes were described to us by a very knowledgeable waitress. Although they all sounded tempting we were both there for their famous large & sweet lightly fried butterflied shrimp and special dipping sauce. My companion ordered the she crab soup as an appetizer which I declined to have room to enjoy my entree.  We both ordered the shrimp which was accompanied by a twice baked potato.  My companion loved the she crab soup which was also served with some additional sherry. Then the entrees arrived. Those beautiful large, lightly fried butterflied shrimp!  The shrimp was out of this world and was such a special treat for me after all the work we did to prepare for the tropical storm warning due to Hurricane Dorian. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, tender and sweet as only Steinhilber's can do. Our server was very knowledgeable about the specials and menu items. She was professional and very welcoming and friendly. Her service was top notch, and our menu selections were served with perfect timing. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very charming, and surrounded by their beautiful gardens where you can also see the lights on the Lynn Haven. The weather wasn't ideal to dine outside on their very large deck with Fire Pitt table tops also surrounded by beautiful plants. It's a great place either inside or out on the deck for a romantic evening, family gatherings or a business meeting for dinner. It's always such a treat for me and I thank my dining companion for a beautiful and delicious dinner experience!  Until next time (just hope it's not another 3 years) I'll just have to daydream and reminisce about those famous Steiney Shrimp! Last night was the fourth time here.  Overall 4.5Local mainstay with a long history.  On this occasion we enjoyed a perfect weather evening on the deck.   Our 830 reservation was ready on time and the dining room was packed, making us thankful for the deck seating reservations because the ambient noise was fairly loud in the dining room.The kitchen and waitstaff were a little behind that evening, trying to accommodate several walk-ins and apparently a couple gaps in staffing,  We were in no hurry and the waiter (Zach) and his assistant (didn't catch her name) were attentive and knowledgeable.  Point being despite the staffing issues and modest delay in things coming from the kitchen, they handled it with grace and kept us informed.  Like I said we were in no hurry and this place is meant to be enjoyed ... you want speed, there is a McDonald's a mile up the road.Scallops appetizer - excellent!Fish of the day (Halibut) - excellent!Fried flounder - good.  Tasty and flavorful trimming to offset the blander fish.Wine - excellent recommendation from Zach... very pleased.Complimentary valet parking.  Table visit by the owner, concerned for delays and wanting to ensure we were having a good time was a nice touch.  Pricing is on the high side as one would expect for a finer dining establishment.  If you are expecting cheap, again I suggest going a mile up the road for that.   This will certainly not be our last visit.  Very relaxing and fine restaurant for the couples date night.  Thanks. Great meal last night! As usual steinhilbers did not disappoint!!Had reservation @ 645pm to sit outside at a fire pit. Started with drinks and a bottle of wine. For apps we had the shrimp as well as the tomato salad... amazing!! For dinner we tried the cobia fresh catch as well as the Alaskan halibut... both amazing!! And after dinner of course wrapped up by sharing a piece of the chocolate pie! Love this place! Can't wait to come back in the fall!!!! More...

I have never been amazing at the history, and the food at a restaurant before. From the greeters to the wait staff all the way to the owners the people are delightful. The owner took time out of her busy day to have an actual conversation with us, and not just ask how the food was and keep on with her day. That goes a long way with me, on top of the delicious meal. Oh my god.....AMAZING! My husband and I ate here for the first time on Saturday and it was great. I honestly have nothing but good things to say. Steinhilber's outdid themselves for our wedding! My husband and I were married here on July 6, 2019 and we can't say enough about how amazing an experience it was! We chose this spot because we had our first official date here over 20 years ago. Everyone we worked with was friendly and helpful. Carrie was great to work with during the planning stages. She was always responsive to my questions and always answered with a smile. Our waitstaff, especially Tom, were extremely attentive, and usually met our needs before we even asked for them. The food was fantastic! Our guests had many positive comments about how great their meals were and how amazing the staff was. The setting was absolutely beautiful with all the flowers. We couldn't have chosen a better venue for our wedding! We can't wait to come back and this will definitely be our anniversary date place! Thank you for making our day perfect! More...

I've read some of the previous disappointing reviews. Last night I celebrated my 57th birthday at Steinhilber's. It is always a favorite of mine. I prefer the fillet mignon. It melted in my mouth like butter. My boyfriend ordered the lamb. He said it was delicious. This place was very romantic. The lights were a nice little touch and they even had a lake nearby. They recommended that we took a walk while we were waiting for our food. It was an amazing night with some personable waiters. Traveling from Florida up to New York, we were passing through VA BEACH to have some repairs done to our RV. Our hopes were greatly exceeded by the friendly and professional waitstaff, and the surf and turf suppers we had; but the GARDEN TOMATOES with pesto and burrata made me want to lick the plate! And the house-roasted coffee was the perfect finish to an exceptional meal. We will have to visit more often! The restaurant is down a residential street, do not be fooled...it is at the end of the road, built apparently before the neighborhood that grew up around it. A real gem. More...

As always, we had the perfect meal and experience at Steinhilber's which has truly become our favorite place! We asked to be seated outside on a gorgeous evening and that worked out perfectly! The scenery of their patio is just great with all the perfectly landscaped grounds and beautiful flowers and plants! We went all out for this meal that we enjoyed with family which really added to the experience! We started with their delicious bread and of course, the fried jumbo shrimp! In case you haven't heard, they have the best shrimp in town-grilled or fried! I also started with a delicious wedge salad and enjoyed the presentation of each and every course! For main entrees, I cannot get past the grilled shrimp because it is THAT good and I am known for sticking to what I love! I went with the smashed potatoes this time and really liked them though I'm eyeing the regular baked potato for our next visit! Everyone else also enjoyed their main entrees which included the prime rib, fish done oscar style and the seafood platter! Not one single complaint could be heard from our table as everything was spot on! The best part of the entire meal had to be dessert though! I typically like all of Steinhilber's desserts but they had a special dessert that was every bit as amazing as it sounded! When our waiter shared with us that they had a chocolate chip cookie sandwich with caramel and sea salt as the dessert of the evening, my heart filled with so much happiness! This dessert was not only beautiful (yes, I absolutely think desserts can be gorgeous) as it was tasty! The cookie melted in your mouth and combined with vanilla ice cream and sea salted caramel, it was to die for! I am telling you, this dessert was one of the best I've had! The huge and yummy Butterfly Shrimp is the go to and it's super good. Highly recommend outdoor seating if it's cool enough in the garden area and their steaks are awesome too, as is their wine list.

Steak houses go, none better. This place rates with our favorite steak houses in other cities. Old Towne in Frdericksburg, Buckhead's in Richmond. Love places where the waitstaff take care of you not just your waiter(ess).  Everything was wonderful and magic on the tongue. Went here last night to celebrate my birthday with my husband. The food was absolutely delicious! I can't say enough about it, you definitely have to try this place out! Our server Josh was exceptional and extremely friendly and had great knowledge of the menu and the restaurant itself. The atmosphere was beautiful, romantic and at the same time cozy. It is expensive, but well worth it! For 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and drinks with tip it was less than $200. Not bad in my opinion. Will definitely be going back. And for those who live in Suffolk and have been to River Stone Chophouse, it doesn't hold a candle to Steinhilber's. Steinhilber's is far better and no more expensive.
