Spa 23 has great staff! I love working out with the trainers. But best is being greeted by Randy at the front desk! He makes me feel glad that I came!
Everything, this is a family oriented, super friendly, great place to make friends and find exactly what fits to your lifestyle and fitness level. There is no other place like it
I used the Spa 23 camp this summer and my kids loved it. More importantly, I had a personal situation arise and the camp staff including Danae and Caitlin went out of there way to accommodate me. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place and the staff with regard to the kids summer camp. I will definitely be sending my children there next summer, I highly recommend it. More...

This is a shout out for the following Spa 23 staffers that go over and above helping me get fit!!PattyJen Bnana BrooksJan Smith
The best gym around period. From the facility itself to the staff, the equipment, the kids classes, the members to the opening hours... This gym is the best on the market. I travel a lot for work so use and see many gyms whilst on the road and nothing compares. Strongly recommended to all! More...
Our 4 yr old was previously attending another swim school for over a year and didn’t learn anything over that period of time. Frustrated, we were eager to try another swim school and came across Spa 23. The skills of the instructors here are outstanding. They are full time instructors dedicated to teaching swimming. Within two months our daughter was able to swim on her own and accomplished what the other school couldn’t achieve in a year. We are extremely happy with our instructor Brianne. Thank you Spa 23 More...
I am 65 years old and started swimming here 3x a wk about a year and a half ago and not only did I lose 45 pounds but I feel terrific. The entire club is amazing...everyone is so friendly and helpful. This was, and continues to be, the greatest thing I have ever done for myself. More...
Best part about Spa23 is no matter what time of day or night you come, there is always someone to greet you with a smile. It truly makes working out better to know you always have someone in your corner to cheer you on!
Spa 23 has the best staff in north Jersey! The people who work here and the ones who work out here are awesome! Thanks for all the help in keeping me fit!
Huge fan of this gym! I love that it’s got everything I could possibly want in a gym, including amazing childcare. Billy at the front desk always greets me by name whenever I come in for my workout — and I think that’s so nice and welcoming! Jenna has always been wonderful with whatever I need since I signed up, and Sue guided me down the right path for swim lessons for my 5 year old (which has been a WONDERFUL experience so far with swim instructor Brianne)! The facility is always clean and well-kept. I absolutely recommend it, especially for mommas who want to make sure their kids are cared for appropriately! More...
Danielle M is INCREDIBLE at yoga and making it an amazing experience- they are lucky to have her (understatement) only reason it's not 5 stars and it's literally NEVER hot. It has been really hot maybe like 3 times in the last few months for hot yoga.. today it blew cold air at one point.. unfortunate More...
Great fitness center, staff is very friendly, recently 8 months post-op reconstruction hip surgery great for daily rehab!
Great place to work out! Plenty of equipment to choose from and the staff is really knowledgeable and friendly
Heather Mullen Werner
I have been a member of the Spa for over 4 years. It is the only gym I will ever workout in or bring my kids to. Their trainers are so knowledgeable and helpful. The childcare is phenomenal. Kathy goes above and beyond from rocking my crying baby to painting my daughters nails. Childcare room is always SPOTLESS and they do a great job keeping the kids happy. The entire team becomes your family. Front desk is always friendly and membership services are quick to answer any questions. Always clean and friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend!!!!! More...
Just stopped in for lunch for a quick chicken wrap and Jenna is the BEST !!! Nom Noms !!!
I was referred here by a friend about 6 months ago. The place is huge and has something for eveyone. Cross Fit for the cross fit people, a large weight room for strength training, a whole floor of cardio equipment and rooms, child care and spa etc. In addition a huge selling point for me was the indoor pool and hot tub and steam and dry sauna which I like to use after workouts. The staff is well trained and always super helpful. A+ More...
Love training & my besties at the front desk: Jenna & Billy!!! Lou’s training sessions are the bomb!
I joined 2 weeks ago and I love it. I’ve been to almost every gym in the wayne area and this one is by far my favorite. The yoga studio is so relaxing and the instructors are knowledgeable. They have so many classes to choose from as well. My kids love the kids care which is huge for me. It is worth every penny. More...
Great gym and atmosphere with top notch facilities and equipment. Billy is very friendly and helpful at the from desk
I have been a member for a few years now and been to other gyms in the area over the years prior to spa 23. Nothing has come close to the professionalism, cleanliness, and over all experience that I get at spa 23 . I have a trainer 2 times a week and I am never disappointed. I am getting the results I asked for and more ! I wouldn’t go anywhere else! More...

I have been a member of Spa 23 for almost 19 Years. It is the finest health club in North Jersey. The personal attention by all the excellent Instructors and programs available are outstanding. Love the sled. Moss wall is so ingenious. Taylor is great at the juice bar and Jenna is pretty good too. Would recommend to everybody.
Yes I would recommend Spa 23. I am not a gym person but I really like the assortment of choices that they have to choose from. Anywhere from yoga to Zumba and I love both. Also can’t beat that free half hour massage every month that I look forward to. They often have a lot of promotions so why not take advantage of them and join? You’ll be happy you did More...
I really enjoy working out at this gym. The amenities are great and the trainers are really helpful. I’ve also done the small group boxing and other group classes and would definitely recommend them.
I love this gym! Everyone is so friendly and things are clean and I feel extremely comfortable here and that's important. Not to mention the food, snacks, and protein shakes are delicious. Proud member!
I joined Spa 23 in the fall through a trial promotion, and I really enjoyed the staff friendliness, location, and facility right away. All around pros / things I like:Large parking lotPersonal training staff is very friendly Pure massage once a month is great Getting free personal training sessions (not just 1) with new membershipThe snack bar / açaí bowls are great Not really super busy even though facility is small Separate room for cardio machines and weight machines and classes My only complaint would be that it is expensive, but I think the price makes the facility clean, quaint, and personalized. The staff is responsive to concerns and needs, and I think that is something I haven't found at other gyms. Plus, it has a boutique vibe with the way rooms are separate and semi private. I hate big gyms where everything is in one flat room and all the cardio people have no choice but to stare at you doing anything on mats or weights. The pure massages have been excellent each month. That's expensive anywhere else, and so paying the membership is worth that alone really! More...

My review on Spa 23 is about their youth swim classes, that I attend with my 5 year old son. The lessons are really good and so are the instructors. They are extremely knowledgeable and they push the children to learn each skill. I used to do NYSC in butler and I have seen a huge improvement in my son's swimming now that he's at Spa23 . He is swimming the length of the pool only after 6 lessons. It's become more of a challenge for him and he loves it. Also, the kids are tested on the skills learned and moved up levels as they achieve those skills in order for them to keep them learning and motivated. For group classes, the maximum amount of children is 8 with 2 instructors teaching. The instructors are good at keeping the kids engaged and provide structure as they take turns. The pool usually has multiple instructors, teaching multiple classes, making the bench area packed with parents. A lot of parents like to watch their young ones and even record. There should be more pool side seating. If you don't watch your child, plenty of seating is available right outside the pool next to a snack and shake area. They offer family changing rooms, that are always neat and tidy. There classes are offered at different times with multiple options so it makes it convenient as a parent, however no make up classes are available if you miss a class, instead you are provided with a voucher for family swim time that you can use to practice the skills learned.Overall Spa23 as a gym looks like it has a lot to offer. I've seen a CrossFit section, racket ball court, plenty of machines and equipment to use. With 24 hour access is sounds pretty good but I'm sure you have to pay for all that. So don't expect your normal Retro Fitness membership fees. More...

They have the massage Pure Spa, chiropractor, classes, pool, racket ball courts, baby sitting, women’s gym, the juice bar, and many more! Still a good gym but I would give negative stars just for the loud swarms of children they have in the summer especially right next to the yoga facility! Like what is that?! Awful literally I canceled my membership due to this. nobody working out whether yoga to relax or muscle building wants to dodge screaming yelling tiny humans while paying $80 a month. More...

I bring my 2 boys swimming the spa 23 is great especially Andrew he’s my older son swim instructor he’s the best .
The gym has many amenities. I love the Beyoga classes, Yin, Ina, and Damien are excellent!!!! The only crux is they no longer offer the longer massage, if you miss the 30 min. monthly 'free' massage, you lose the time. This was changed recently. So, you get less flexibility and still pay the same. I also didn't like when I initially signed up a family member for the yoga monthly classes at a set price and was told I could 'freeze' and 'unfreeze' at any time for the same $40.00 monthly fee, they suddenly changed this policy. I would be charged $79.00 if I 'unfroze' the membership from then on. They stated it would be $40.00 for a one-time allowance, after I complained, but refused to put this in writing. Not good business practice. Just watch the fees, they change and I'm not sure what the $20.00 'extra fee' is at the annual renewal for membership. Have them put everything in writing and read the fine print. The yoga instructors are top-notch, however there is a major disparity between the many hot/warm classes and the regular classes offered. There is no research to support the benefits of hot vs. regular classes and no evidence of 'detoxification' which is purported to result from excessive loss of electrolytes and possible dehydration. That is my only complaint. For the most part, the staff are very accommodating and the gym is clean More...
love love spa 23! I have 3 kids and no time lol. the convenience of spa 23 and the exceptional daycare facility makes me feel so at ease and happy. This review is just about the swim school. The teachers are fantastic but the management is horrible. Not only did they raised the price for the stroke clinic, but they also cut the class time by 25% (from 60 minutes to 45 minutes). Furthermore, they scheduled at least 4 private lessons at the same time as the stroke clinic and cramped 12 kids into the stroke clinic. That means there are at least 16 kids in the pool at the same time. Not to mention they lowered the temperature of the pool to cut cost on utilities. More...

I joined because it has a pool and is very close to my house. The staff there were nice, but the fact that there are no prices posted online made me very skeptical upon walking in, and also made me postpone coming in sooner. I emailed a few weeks ago about pricing and they said a basic membership is $59.99. I went in today and the price was $69.99 plus tax. The deal said no initiation fee, but then there’s also a new card fee or something and an annual fee of $20 in February (not sure why they can’t just add that into the monthly price...). You also pay a full month upfront so you have a month after you cancel to use the gym. These little complications getting in the way of a straightforward bill left a bad taste in my mouth. I guess I have to pay very close attention to my bills from this place just in case they decide to up the price ten more dollars next month. Hopefully the facility will make up for the weird pricing management. More...
I froze my membership because my job relocated me for awhile and the new location had a gym in it. When I went to unfreeze my membership, I was told my rate was going to be changed to a higher rate. Evidently when my membership was frozen, the gym raised everybody's rates. Since I unfroze my membership, they wanted to charge me the new rate instead of unfreezing it to the rate I had. I told them thanks but no thanks, Ill go to the NYSC right up the road in Butler. So for being greedy, they get nothing instead of something. Doesn't sound very business savvy to me. It's a shame because all the employees are very pleasant and they have awesome old equipment. Stuff I used to train on in the early to mid 90's that you never see anymore that works. Gyms like this should take into consideration that robbing people isn't going to keep them in business. That is the sole reason you see predominantly $20 a month gyms all over the place and Mom and Pop joints like this going out of business left and right. I understand making a living but the rates were high enough to begin withAnd by the way Yelp, how do you have 42 reviews that aren't "currently recommended"? Sounds fishy to me More...

Best gym I have ever been to. As a new member, I have 5 complimentary personal training sessions, a complimentary massage, and 2-3 complimentary classes. The workouts are for real here - much harder than my last gym. I like the challenge the gym is having this month - complete 10 classes to get a t-shirt - because it allows me to check out a lot of different classes that I wouldn't normally have completed. There are also plenty of machines and a pool. This gym really feels like it was designed to help everyone meet their fitness goals. More...
Excellent facility. Staff is so friendly. Great place to work out. Great place to meet new friends.
Came here for a kids swim birthday party. It was chaos! The leaders of the party had no control of the children and let them basically free play in the tiny Racquet ball room. Can you imagine 20+ kids? Finally, kids were taken to room set up to eat but parents were surprised because when do we swim? We were then directed to changing area to change and kids ran a mock. Windy stair case to get to pool was so narrow and dangerous. For this to be a fairly new sports club pool was older cracked and dirty looking. Best part of the party was the pool buddy who was entertaining and engaged kids. I will never pay for a party there. After that back to change and eat in previous led room. Getting food and cake kids took sooooo long. Whew glad that's over now. O and upstairs athletic area reeked. More...

Great gym. Great environment. Many memories made. Only reason why I gave it four stars is cause of the price. I've since quit this gym, but I'll always remember the friends, experiences and memories I've made here.

I have a lot of physical limitations and when I left my past gym it was because about the only things I can do without causing myself severe pain is spin classes, aquacize classes and gentle yoga. Since Spa 23 offers all of these, that is where I go as often as I can. Also, with my hubby's membership and the combo membership, there is 1 30 min massage each month included. I haven't had a chance to cash one in yet, but fully intend to start in the near future as they are starting to pile up. More...

Reiki & Restore class was just what I needed! Hip & chest opening, breathing, and good energy! - Namaste
First appearance nice place and convenient. More expensive than other gyms. The staff are friendly but when we went for the tour and inquiring about the amenities , we got turned off because one of the managers was pushing too much us to become members ... I want the input of my husband regarding us joining but he was not even giving us a chance to think about it. There other comparable gyms that are less expensive. If I'm going to attend specific classes I will opt out as a member .. I don't like being tied to a contract as had been taken for a ride like a mixed martial arts studio in saddle brook, NJ . My son usually enjoy going to the teen nights out . The children's party is reasonably priced and I'm thinking of booking my son's birthday. I recently enrolled my other for swimming but I found another place that is more reasonable and no pressure to join.the employee who refunded me the registration and swimming lessons fee was very helpful and understood the situation. I think this is a good place to enroll on certain activities but I would opt out for enrolling for the gym plus on top of everything else.., More...

Recently made the switch and can strongly say this gym is worth every penny! Excellent location, wide variety of equipment, never have to wait for anything even during peak hours! There is plenty of parking so don't let the crowded front lot fool you. I workout at various times of day and the staff are ALWAYS pleasant, attentive and helpful. Only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because women's locker room could be upgraded. But for what this place is for it's amazing. Pure massage is also awesome so if you can afford a pure and club membership I strongly suggest it More...
I've been a member here since 2001. I'm a, "night owl" and am one of the night crew. I don't usually get there until 11PM. I won't go near it during the day because it's PACKED! It's a little on the pricy side but because they're 24 hours I can let it slide. The men's locker room was recently redone so at least my dues are being used to maintain and upgrade the place. Of course with the exception of racquetball court #1, the others need work. Desperately! More...
The gym has a great location and two floors of equipment. The trainers are wonderful and helpful. The negatives is that the women's locker rooms and showers are disgusting. I really don't even feel comfortable showering there anymore. So dirty and hair gunked in drains and the light fixtures and mold on shower curtains. It's just unsettling. More...
Fantastic gym! Love it there! Workout facilities, pool, massage, etc. Everything you want in one place.

Excellent place. A very clean environment to work out in. Anything you could want, they have.
Love them, Jane and Dana, they have what I need. Couldn't do it without them.
I love Spa23 and is my favorte gym and miss u all I really do and I can't wait see all of u .
Gym is good, large variety of weightlifting equipment and machines that work the core muscles. There are also plenty of Life Fitness elliptical machines but watch out for the ones that I use where the resistance level is way too strong for the level I set my workout for. Level 3 can feel like level 33! And these same machines will AUTOMATICALLY INCREASE the resistance the faster you try to pedal, such as over 100 rpm. Actually, sometimes the resistance will go up for a brief second while pedaling in 90-95 rpm range, so make sure you are holding on to the movable handlebars because this sudden increase will have you sprawling forward or backward!! I've REPEATEDLY asked the Spa 23 staff to have the technician fix this problem but I've been told that the technician doesn't detect a problem with ANY of the Life Fitness ellipticals that I've mentioned above. Wow, how about hiring a COMPETENT technician from Life Fitness, Spa 23 It's obvious the one they continue to use is clueless or just so out of shape that he can't pedal into the 90-100 rpm range to see what I'm talking about with the resistance issues! It is BEYOND frustrating as I've asked the staff to fix this problem since late last year (2013). More...
A little expensive, but I do feel that it's worth it. It's really important that things are clean and I have to say that stay on top of it. Everything, BUT the showers are good. But I'll attribute that to the older people who take the aqua classes. It smells like bleach is trying to cover up the smell of everything. It's pretty gross. They have a good variety of equipment and that's a definite plus. And you really can't beat the hours. Cons, I feel like the staff are given a script of what to say. They're mostly young college students, who are definitely professional, but not very genuine. I think management is trying to make them into something they're not. Kind of fake, which is annoying. Also, the classes. None of them are freestyle. What's the point of having different instructors if they teach the exact same class over and over again? Very little variety as far as that. I feel like I'm watching an aerobics video. Good quality, but boring. It changes very little. More...
Overall, it's a good gym. I've belonged to better and I've belonged to worse. They do have fantastic front desk staff who make an effort to remember your name - everyone I've dealt with has been super friendly. Just watch your bank account, because I've gotten a couple of random charges to my account from the juice bar that I didn't actually do (they were quickly taken care of)... not really sure how that happens. I also belong to BeYOGA, and if this review were for them exclusively, I would give it 5+ stars. If you're considering joining just the yoga studio, DO IT, you won't be disappointed. These are the friendliest yoga teachers I've ever met and they make sure to accommodate students of all levels in their classes. I find that my practice has significantly improved since joining here. My only issue - please add more vinyasa flow classes! I know that hot classes are in great demand, but a liiiittle more variety wouldn't hurt. :)As for everything else - the machines are plentiful and clean and I usually don't have a problem waiting for them. The cardio equipment upstairs is also fine, but most of the TVs on them don't work (if that matters to you). I like that they have a seperate women's gym, but some equipment is lacking and a lot of it is OLD. The pool - find it nearly impossible to ever swim laps here - I used to all the time at my old gym, but the pool here is constantly crowded with swim lessons/classes/whatever else. I don't even bother looking anymore. Also, the locker room is NOT somewhere I'd want to hang out, in fact, it kind of grosses me out. It's very outdated and often smells. I will not step foot within the steam room. Men might not have a problem with this, but from a woman's perspective, I think the steep fee I pay every month should provide me a sliiiightly more luxurious space to change, shower, and get ready. In a world where Lifetime and Equinox are taking over, I think the locker room situation should be reevaluated. Hopefully the newly erected sheetrock covering the old hot tub is a sign of a renovation to come. Anyway. When my year of membership rolls around, I'm considering only renewing the BeYOGA part. I know they are planning on getting lots of new equipment and giving the place a general facelift, which it definitely needs, so we shall see. Last random thought ... maybe it's just me, but I think the layout of this place is very strange. When I first started going here I was COMPLETELY lost. If you join, make sure you get a tour first. Best memories of my life. Hands down. Best gym experience. Miss it to pieces.
I don't think you can review this place like a restaurant as a lot of the previous reviews have. You get out of your gym what you put into your workouts and with that being said; Spa23 is an excellent gym! The interior may be a little outdated in certain areas, especially the locker rooms but you didn't sign up for a chic place to hang out, you came to excercise! I work out here 5 times a week and have never had any issues with the staff or equipment. There is a huge variety of equipment that can be used to suit your needs and the staff is always friendly and helpful even during peak hours. I also enjoy that there is plenty of open space to do more dynamic excercises. I can't comment on any of the classes because I have never taken any but I am extremely satisfied with my membership. It's a decent gym. I was a member for a year. My wife signed us up for the platinum family membership because she wanted to take a bunch of classes, but then most of the ones she ended up wanting to take were contracted or something because they were extra. The good: the staff at the desk was always professional and friendly. Check-in lines can get long at peak times but it's not unbearable. The equipment is pretty clean and they have a variety of options. I rarely had to wait for machines or weights during peak hours. Unfortunately I didn't see people wiping anything down when they were done, but they did have a guy walking around with a spray bottle so I it wasn't totally gross. The bad: There are trainers EVERYWHERE. Some might see this as a good thing, but I had trainers ask to "work in" with a client, which I happily agreed, only for the trainer to then tell me the client is "all set up" so could I come back later. The trainers could care less about you trying to get your workout in, which I understand as I'm not their client but I'm a customer too.I appreciated how they had a heavy bag for boxing upstairs. Only problem was the upstairs area was always closed for birthday parties, high school sports practices, etc.I ultimately didn't renew because I didn't feel we were getting what we thought we signed up for. We were paying a lot for memberships (too much comparatively) and then they tried to nickel and dime me by implementing a new policy that "family swim" was an extra fee. Everything was an extra and I'd had enough. Bottom line: it's a decent gym with clean equipment. Just be clear on what your membership gets you or doesn't. You can find other gyms for less and without a long contract. More...
Always loved working out there. My only beef...the locker rooms. First, the showers...for God sakes, they need to put curtains or doors up, make the showers larger...every time I've showered there, 5 empty stalls, of coarse, someone would have to use the stall right next to me, literally showering on top of me. That persons shampoo and soap flying up and all over me...annoying and frustrating! Then...the carpet in the locker room needs to go, it's old, smells and its gross. Other than that, the gym is really good, just need to improve the locker room and make the showers larger and add privacy. More...
I followed the instructors from Matrix in pompton lakes and would follow them again... I'd give it five stars if they catered more to working people with variety at night
I'm a current member and I like most of what the gym offers but it needs a little updating on the equipment and locker rooms otherwise it's a great place to exercise and unwind
I've been a member for nearly 12 years and can definitely say this is a top notch facility. During this time I've been to a few other local gyms and they just do not compare to Spa 23. The staff is very courteous and accommodating. The food is excellent and the shakes are a refreshing reward for a job well done after pushing yourself on all of the quality machines and equipment available. With the recent renovations to the locker area, you truly feel like your receiving an upscale experience in an excellent facility. Thank you Spa 23, looking forward to many great years to come. This gym is absolutely fantastic. I'm shocked there are any negative reviews. The people at the front desk are so friendly and make an effort to remember your name every time you check in. There is a wide range of ages at this gym so it's hard to feel out of place. I often play racquetball, use the sauna, and there's a ladies only gym which is nice. I've received a massage at the spa and it was great. Also, they just introduced hot yoga a couple months ago, but I have yet to try it. The classes that come with the membership are really hardcore which I love. Also, upon signing up you receive 5 free personal trainer sessions. I have no complaints whatsoever.*They have Groupons now and then as well as a no commitment deal right now so check it out! More...
Spa 23 is a solid health and fitness facility where the people make all the difference. Pros:Cycle class with Danielle on Wednesdays at 5:15pm. TRUST ME."Group Ride" with Karen on Mondays at 6:15 is also very good. The style of the class is a little different (not traditional cycle), but Karen makes it great.Spa 23 is a clean facility with plenty of equipment. I've gone to those $10/mth places in the past, and I'm sick of 12 people trying to use 6 ellipticals. It's consistently busy at Spa 23, but never to the point of overcrowding. Service is important to me. The front desk always greets me by name, always smiles, and never leaves me waiting to check in or out. Whoever is training them deserves a big pat on the back.I have never felt self-conscious there. It's a workout facility for real people - old/young, men/women, fit/just starting. Areas for Improvement:Oh how I wish they would hire a professional web designer to redo their site and newsletter(s)! Both the site and the email content are really disorganized and busy. I wish it were simple and streamlined. It shouldn't take me more than one click (or less) to get from the homepage to find out the exact hours and class schedule for that specific day, regardless of whether it's a holiday, summer hours, etc. I would also appreciate it if I could subscribe/unsubscribe to specific types of emails. For example, I don't have kids, so I don't want my email to get cluttered with messages about summer camp or fun nights. I wish the class schedule had the names of the (usual) instructors on it. It's not personal, but there are some people that are a good fit for my workout style and some who are not. I want to be able to take that into account when deciding which classes to try. I think they need to reconsider their brand. "Spa" doesn't mean the same thing to people today as it did 20 years ago. Their main offering is exercise facilities, not a "spa". The new yoga studio has a separate "brand" (BeYoga), the new massage area has a separate brand (Pure Massage).. it's inconsistent and confusing. Bottom line - I've been a member for over a year. It's a good value, and I feel good there. More...
I would like to commend Spa 23 for their trainer Lorraine; Lorraine is a very caring and professional individual who puts the needs of her clients above everything else. The training that you receive is personally tailored to each clients needs and abilities. In addition,,Lorraine's kind and gentle ways makes learning fun. I have been workingwith Lorraine for a year now and have lost nine inches. I am so excited that I havehad to shop for a new wardrobe in almost two sizes smaller!!! I would highly recommend Lorraine to anyone who is serious about getting results from their personal trainer. More...
Horrible Customer relations in regards to canceling memebership. The only good thing about this gym is the hours. I tried to play by their rules and cancel with a bill and now they change things up and say I need a drivers license to prove I moved. The contract does not even state this and the owner said it should..This gym is the pits! Not a mom and pop gym...Just as bad as the chain gyms. I hand delievered a bill and had cash to pay off the membership and they call me months later to tell me I still owe and that my membership is frozen. I spoke to the owner and he made sure he got his money owed...If I was the owner I would have said forget it dont worry about.. We are talking only 100 bucks here...Its a shame I had to drive from 1hr and 20minutes to hand deliver a bill and offer to pay my money and then months later I have a bill!!!!JOKE!!! The owner just called me and actually ask me if my wife wants to cancel Are you serious? No my wife would like to drive and 1hr and 20min to your gym which I just got done telling you how upset I was about your business...This place should be put out of business!!! I was willing to play by the rules and they change things up!! If I had the time I would take them to court...On my off day I have to worry about a bill and their staff with their inconcsistant rules!!! More...
This gym is horrible. Trying to be something they arent. The important thing to remember is if you need to get out of your contract beware of the changing rules. They make it up as they go along. The membership staff have no idea what they are doing. After you cancel you may just get a bill months later saying - surprise you owe us more money for your membership. Join at your own risk. You have been warned. More...
I've been a member here for about 6 months now. Since my workouts mainly consist of group exercise classes, I have to say I'm a bit disappointed in what they offer vs. what they claim to offer when you sign up. This rating is strictly for their group classes. The staff and establishment itself are very nice. I'm just really disappointed in their group classes and I will go into excruciating detail as to why. I'm hoping that someone of influence at Spa 23 might read this and think about a serious overhaul of their group classes. First of all, they pitch the gym as a "something for everyone" kind of place. In some ways this is true (classes, pool, free weights, kids activities and a new massage spa). In other ways, mainly in terms of group fitness, I think this gym caters to senior citizens and rich housewives who are home all day. When I joined, I was told the gym is open 24/7 therefore they can offer a variety of group fitness classes that go later into the evening. I don't really find this to be accurate. They do have group fitness classes that start at 7:50pm but none after that. Most people who have 9-5 jobs wouldn't be able to attend a group fitness class until at least 6:30ish factoring in time to commute home or get to the gym and change right after work. Taking that into consideration, it's nearly impossible to get a good mix of cardio/strength and pilates/yoga in 3-4 nights. The key word in that sentence is "good." Mondays:There is a group kickboxing class at 6:40pm. However, I took the class several times when I first joined. There are two instructors who teach the class. They are allll over the place so it's nearly impossible to get the moves down and actually get a decent workout when you're spending 1/2 the class trying to follow along. I have taken kickboxing classes before so this isn't a case of not being familiar with the moves. It's more like the instructors just do whatever they feel like doing with each track and change things each week. It's hard to learn a routine when there is no routine. Aside from that, the class was heavily kick and almost no "boxing." Personally, this was too hard on my knees which I have already injured in the past so this class is out unless they re-vamp it. At 7:50pm they offer a Group Power class which consists mainly of free weights. This is a good class and if you aren't being lazy and really push yourself on the weights, you can get some benefit from it. I wish they would spend a little longer on abs at the end of the class but overall, definitely worth your time.Tuesdays:6:30pm- Group Step. Never taken it. Not a fan of step, I'm not coordinated enough for it and I also think it's kind of boring.7:30pm- Aqua Zumba- this class consists of men and women 65 and older in the pool barely moving around. My boyfriend and I have observed it from the hot tub nearby. They all wade around in the water and chit chat, then they do a few basic moves (which are not really zumba moves, it's just zumba music) and then they finish. This class is probably awesome for them but for someone in their 30s, there is absolutely no benefit from this class.7:45pm-Group Active. They sell this as a half cardio/half free weights class. However, even though I take this class regularly, it provides little aerobic benefit. This class is usually filled with 5-6 older women and me. There are 4 "cardio" tracks which involve doing basic Step moves on the riser. The instructor (regardless of who teaches it) very rarely encourages anyone to push themselves by adding additional risers or mixing in light weights and some boxing moves along with the Step moves. After 4 tracks- once your heart rate may actually be slightly elevated (the perfect time to move onto free weights) there is a cool down track! What?!? That doesn't make any sense to me. Isn't cool down for the END of a workout Then we move onto 4 tracks of free weights, one track for abs and another cool down. Again, I wish there would be a greater focus on abs at the end but that's just my personal opinion. I still care about looking good in a bikini as opposed to the other women in the class who could probably care less at this point in their lives.Wednesdays:6:40pm- Group Power (see Monday)6:45pm- Mat Pilates- not a bad class but I can rarely ever make it there in time. Wednesdays I'm usually left to the treadmill since the group class offerings are slim.Thursdays:6:30pm- Group Ride- a cycling class. I've never been a fan of cycling. I find it boring and it hurts my butt so I've never taken this.6:40pm- Group Step (see Tuesdays)Fridays:There are no group classes offered after 6:30pm.Now, they do offer Zumba and a new class called Group Core which focuses on ab work. Where are these classes in the schedule, you ask? Zumba: Thurs, 9:30am and Sat, 11:40am and Group Core: Mon/Tues, 5:45pm & Wed 10:15am. So if you want a good group workout, better quit your job folks!! More...

Spa 23 is desperately trying to do damage control caused by their meathead managment. The response and long-winded oratory by Cary Adler of Spa 23 indicates he is trying desperately to make 2 wrongs a right, and save his fledgling business. After all, customers paying too much to use 25 year old equipment did make him rich. I am sure he would like to perpetuate the illusion and keep the cash rolling in.The former customer he is attempting to blame for all his troubles was a loyal 25 year-member from the time it was the only club in the area. He is a cheerful individual with many freinds and liked by all. So what would possibly cause him to possibly exhibit the so-called "outrageous and unacceptable behaviour" out of the clear blue? Perhaps it was the same 3 terrible songs that Spa 23's incompetent management plays over and over for months on end? (He is a music lover and professional musician, after all). Or perhaps he was disturbed by witnessing the older gentleman who severed an artery in his foot by stepping on broken glass in the shower Spa 23 is supposed to keep clean? Or maybe the resultant "sea of blood"which Spa 23 staff cleaned by simply rinsing it away with with cold water!! Or then again, perhaps it was the threats he recieved when he mentioned these things to the "jersey joe meathead" manager who didn't want to do his job and thinks it is all about "Him"? Now they are doing phoney propoganda and advertising a year for $30 - just another "Sap" 23 scam! I detest greedy people who try and prosper off the public through deception and bad business practices. More...
I visited with a family member during the holidays and was shocked by the rude greeting at the front desk, the out of date locker rooms, the limited supply of machines and the drab interior. I was amazed that another staff person went on to make excuses for the front desk person that was so incredibly rude. It's one of the only central places to go in town so it seems the community goes for convenience and the staff take advantage of people with unprofessional behavior. My family indicated this behavior isn't all that uncommon. More...
