Dropped in from Atlanta for OLY weightlifting training. Contacted them and got welcoming response. Drop charge is $25, medium size box, 2 lifting platform strips, Rogue 2.0 bars and Rogue HG bumpers in pounds look new, large area with squat/power rigs. The Kilo bumpers are locked because they are privately own. So, besides that disappointment, I was able to complete my training in pounds and phone calculator..LOL! More...

I recommend this place to anyone looking for a crossfit box to get started or progress in their training. The staff and ownership is highly knowledgable, the facility is clean, well maintained, and well equipped, and the community positive and welcoming. I've done a lot of different fitness modalities and been a member of several crossfit boxes, and I can tell you this is a really good one. More...

I was only here for a few months but I was totally impressed. It seems like they are draining members away from all the other downtown CrossFit gyms because of their laid back, no frills, pure CrossFit atmosphere. In the warm months they keep the garage door open which I love. There's space to do stretching or open gym. The coaches are knowledgeable and attentive. The people are welcoming. No complaints whatsoever. I highly recommend joining! More...

On my trip to Chicago I almost didn't go to this crossfit only because I thought I picked 3 better ones to visit. Then my last day I popped in on a walk and commenced myself to do one more workout. The best way I can explain it is that this box is what crossfit is ment to be. Everything was amazing from the front desk, clean bathrooms, friendly members, to the coaching and facility's. If I could go back I would have worked out my full week there. It might not mean much from me, but if you can make a small town guy in the middle of the city feel at home, your doing something right. I have to admit - I was a CrossfFt skeptic. Having worked in the fitness industry in my past life, the lack of good coaches and protocol at many boxes really frightened me. But when I moved to Chicago, I was looking for a home gym, and I decided to give it a shot. I'm a converter. The coaches, and I do mean all of them, are phenomenal. I kept expecting a class where I didn't feel I was getting corrected or pushed to the right level (aka, too far), but it never happened. Join for the coaches, stay for the workouts. You won't regret it. I didn't. More...

This gym has totally changed my life. 8 weeks ago, I signed up for their 6 week women's crossfit challenge. Having never really worked out in a gym environment before, I was a little intimidated at first. I was honestly shocked even just on the first day at how welcoming and accepting everyone was! The coaches are wonderful. I am so impressed with their ability to help beginners like me learn from the ground up. It was good to step out of my comfort zone, but I never once felt like I was pushed too far. They are extremely detail-oriented and want to make sure you are learning all the technical skills properly, so you are in great hands! After the six week challenge was up, I signed up for the monthly membership immediately! Honestly, there are other crossfit gyms much closer to my house. But I drive from the opposite end of the city because I love this place and all the people there, coaches and members! There's an undeniable family environment and the open, accepting atmosphere is contagious. After the challenge, I continue to be impressed with the coaches and their hands-on training. They take the time to get to know each individual's strengths and weaknesses, and are excellent at what they do.Signing up for South Loop was the best decision I've ever made! Can't wait to see where I'm at one year from now, and it's all thanks to this wonderful place! More...

After having run for years (3 marathons and about 30 half marathons) I abruptly stopped loving long runs and was incredibly frustrated with weight gain even after putting in 30 miles a week. I walked in to SLSC for their 6 week challenge scared out of my mind, but quickly feel in love. The coaches are terrific, I love that they are sticklers for good form and proper technique, something I really appreciate. I have even received homework for stuff to improve on. I love the combination of CrossFit and FAST workouts. My husband and I might be moving, and we are debating simply because we don't want to leave SLSC. I would encourage everyone to check them out, you won't regret it. More...

I came into South Loop CrossFit with zero experience or skill in terms of weight lifting or high intensity workouts. I never played sports in high school or college and I thought using 8 pound dumbbells was really testing the limits of my strength. I spent my first couple of weeks completely anxious that I wouldn't be able to do something or that I would get in the way of others in the class. That didn’t happen at all. All of the coaches that I have had the opportunity to work with have been skilled, kind, and patient which was crucial for someone coming in with no experience. The WODs are always challenging, but never impossible. And even as a newbie, I never felt like a nuisance since the other people in class were as encouraging as the coaches. I would recommend South Loop CrossFit for the programming and the skill of the coaches, but that combined with the supportive environment is what makes it such a special place. More...

A few months ago, you would have never caught me anywhere near weights. Aside from the fact I thought I hated it, I had also suffered a shoulder injury earlier in the year and was nervous about going too quickly into something new. However, as an endurance runner, I wanted a structured regime to get me in the habit of strength training - specifically something that was not a group class at a gym (think doing bicep curls to terrible dance music). I saw an ad for their Six Week Challenge as an intro to CrossFit and took the plunge. Finished those six weeks and was hooked. I have been coming 3x / week since August and love the pace of the classes, the personalized attention / recommendations and the focus on form over increasing weight too quickly. The fact that I WANT to come to class and get irritated when I can't make it means I've finally found the type of workout that works for me, which is great. In addition to awesome coaches, I've also enjoyed the community and meeting others in the classes. If you have any doubts, come give them a try! PS Go Noon class! ;) More...

TL;DR - 3 months into my first Crossfit gym experience, SLSC has exceeded my every expectation.I'll add my voice to the chorus of others saying laudatory things about South Loop Strength & Conditioning. My background: played team sports my whole life through college (Division 3). College ended and I had a few brief, unproductive stints with normal gyms. For some, they work great. I'm probably less self-motivated and just really enjoy working out with a group. I was reluctant to try Crossfit for the same reason many are: it ain't cheap. In my case, I took the plunge on their no-commitment monthlong trial and, at the end, couldn't think of not continuing. It's my first real Crossfit experience and so I have less to say in comparison to other boxes. I will say, amongst other members with experience at other boxes, the prevailing opinion seems to be that this is a top notch business. My experience has been consistent with that.Specifically:1. Commitment - The owners are around, present, approachable, and genuinely seem to care about the members beyond just collecting dues. They seem to do doing it "the right way" and building a place that people will want to stay with for the long term.2. Knowledge - Coaches, owners, and other experienced members seem educated and committed to not only teaching, but teaching the right way. They stress safety and form, knowing that once those are in place the results inevitable follow.3. Versatility - There is a range of fitness and experience levels here, and they do a really good job of helping you get out whatever you want to put in. Crossfit games ambitions? Great. Busy with work and want to pop in a couple of times per week to blow off steam and stay healthy? They've got you there, too.4. Community - As a first-timer, I was naturally a little unsure. Owners, coaches, and members are universally friendly and approachable. They really made a new guy feel welcomed.5. Results - It's easiest to improve when you've been drinking beer on the couch for six years, as I had been, but even after 3 months I'm seeing very tangible results basically just by showing up and doing as told. I have had the pleasure of spending some time at South Loop Strength & Conditioning with Todd and his team. The gym is not your typical chain type gym with treadmills and machines everywhere, it is new and innovative and offers group classes and well as private coaching and nutritional counseling. At first I was hesitant about a "cossfit" atmosphere (I had a previous hip injury and have to be mindful of what I'm doing), but my concerns were quickly put to rest within just a few minutes of stepping inside the building and taking a class.Todd is extremely knowledgeable and passionate and can evaluate what you are doing and give you ways to improve your form and ways to get the most out of your workout. He is able to tailor a routine to any individual that will best fit their health and fitness goals. As I chiropractor I highly recommend Todd and his team of trainers! The owners of South Loop Crossfit, Todd and Paul, are a couple of the best crossfit coaches I have ever come across in all my years of doing crossfit. Not only do they live and breathe crossfit every minute of every day, they care about the craft and art of coaching which is an ever rarer thing these days as crossfit gyms sprout up seemingly everywhere. If you take your health and fitness serious, then SLSC is the place to take that to the next level. The programming here is one of the best. The coaches here really care about helping each member achieve their goals. Todd Nief, part owner of SLSC is extremely knowledge and does a great job enlightening his coaches and members. I wouldn't trade the knowledge or experience that I've encountered here for anything. I have become a better athlete and coach because of the coaches and members at SLSC. This is one of the hidden gems in the city of Chicago. More...

SLSC's experienced coaches, innovative programming, and multifaceted approach to fitness and working out will help you meet whatever goals you're working towards. CrossFit is consistently challenging when you're doing it right, and even though some days feel harder than others, my output has increased by orders of magnitude and I've never had a bad training day at SLSC. The people here are tight and treat each other like a family. Highly recommended. More...

The workout space is fantastic but its the people and community that make this place special. All of the coaches go the extra mile to help athletes achieve their performance and fitness goals. whether its helping with nutrition, meal prep, stretching, tips for recovery, advice on how to loose/lean or gain, or spending time teaching you how to do a specific movement - they are always accessible and willing to help. I have been a member here for a little under two years and absolutely love it. the workouts are varied and tailored so that people of all fitness levels can have fun and participate. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone interested in cross fit or improving their level of fitness More...

I have been working out at SLCF for over a year now and it has been an awesome journey of fitness. I still check their blog every night to see what Todd has in store for the workout the next day. With the constant variation and trackable results I am always excited to go to the gym. The coaches are very knowledgable about all aspects of fitness and in a short time the coaches and other athletes become like a second family. More...

There are a thousand different gyms and fitness fads out there. Most of it is crap. None of the noise or marketing or Reebok commercials will get you in shape. The single most important thing you want from a gym – any gym you decide to give your hard-earned dollars – is to have highly qualified trainers who understand (and respect) your fitness goals, who can create and help execute a plan to achieve those goals safely and efficiently. Simple, but rare. Enter South Loop Crossfit. I’ve participated in a lot of sports over the years. I’ve spent time in a lot of gyms, with lots of trainers. The training I’m getting at South Loop Crossfit is as tough and rewarding as anything I’ve ever done. I’ve never seen a group of trainers as tuned-in to their athletes (SLCF doesn’t care for the word “clients”) as Todd, Kevin, Paul, Nehemiah and the rest of the South Loop crew. They know each of our strengths and weakness, they know when to push and when to hold us back or substitute out an exercise in one of the daily workouts. While there is no shortage of crossfit gyms that let people throw weights around recklessly, the Olympic lifts require training and technique. The South Loop coaches aren’t about doing it heavy, until you’re doing it right. That’s what you want. I also have to say, after years and years of mostly lifting on my own and finding most gym people to be annoying, the group class environment is pretty great. Everybody jokes around, encourages each other, and commiserates over particularly tough workouts. And it’s a pretty good mix of former and current athletes and folks who have just decided its time to get off the couch and into the gym. If you are looking for a gym in Chicago, put the Cheetos down and get to South Loop Crossfit. More...

Visited this box during my vacation and I'll definitely be coming back when I'm in Chicago. I like it because of its friendly and knowledgeable staff (Paul, Todd, and Nehemiah coached me), clean facility, and its overall atmosphere.
