We recently had small thyme catering cater our wedding on September 9th 2017 the food was amazing Brandy the manager / co-owner went above and beyond we were having timing issues getting all the last-minute details complete her and her staff finish decorating the tables with the centerpieces that weren't all the way complete and she even went around pinning the groomsmen with the boutonnieres. This review is long overdue. My partner and I hired Small Thyme Catering to cater our cocktail reception this past September of 2017 in San Francisco and we couldn't be happier with them. We have a big unique backyard space and Brandy and her team made it look even more special. Food: The food was served hot and fresh and her team of servers & cooks were professional and fun; Our guests loved the cheese, veggie and fruit display & the desserts were loved by all, especially the kids! Drinks: We also hired her bartenders to bartend our cocktail event. We had two signature drinks and they were loved by everyone! The definite hit of the night was our signature fresh margarita drink. The bartenders were so fun and friendly. We seriously could have partied with them all night. I can't say enough good things about Small Thyme! Brandy and her staff are AMAZING! I initially worked with Barbara but she retired a few months before my wedding and seamlessly passed me off to Brandy. Everything about this company is professional, detail orientated, FRIENDLY, and fun to work with. We had a tasting with Barbara at their kitchen and the food sold us, but the service and follow up after that made me feel so comfortable with our choice to use them. Seriously everything was seamless. They helped with my linen and centerpiece set up, clean up, etc. At the event they were there exactly when needed and the food was AMAZING. They set up a cookie bar for me (my maid of honor made the cookies/signs) and also a fun late night nacho bar. The price was very reasonable for the amount and quality of food! Small Thyme catered our wedding, and they were amazing!  We have celiac disease, and are unable to have even a tiny amount of cross-contamination with gluten, but Small Thyme was able to use their allergen-free kitchen to accommodate us with a meal that was delicious AND safe!  Barbara, the owner, was super responsive to questions and concerns, and on the day of the wedding, they were right on time, organized, and professional.  We really relied on them to run the entire show, and they did a great job!  We'd absolutely recommend Small Thyme!!! Small Thyme was great. Our wedding was completely vegetarian with a few other food restrictions on the list. My wife and I visited a few other caterers before coming across Small Thyme. Despite being far from us (Peninsula versus Concord) Barbara and the entire Small Thyme staff were spectacular. They were more than accommodating on our restrictive diet and flexible with all our menu changes.

On the day, the staff was sure to check in with us often and made sure everything went perfectly. They were fast, efficient, and clean. They even gave great effort to meeting the green guidelines of our venue.

I would recommend Small Thyme to anyone. All our guests loved the food despite some of their apprehensions toward vegetarian food. Everyone got fed and everyone complimented us on our food choices. More...

Thank you to Barbara and Larry for making our wedding day food fantastic! We had a backyard wedding with 200 people, and we wanted someone who could cook fresh, homestyle food with an emphasis on vegetarian options. I found Small Thyme online so I wasn't sure what to expect, but when we showed up for our tasting they were instantly personal and fun and made us laugh, smile and relax! It was very clear that they know what they're doing with wedding catering, and I didn't worry once about their competency after that first meeting. They also managed to be reasonably priced and have a down-home attitude in an industry plagued by theatrics and inflated costs.They were great in following up with a site visit and consistently responded promptly to e-mail questions. I never worried with them, and on the day of I was proven right -- everything went off without a hitch with no hand-holding on our end. The food was fresh, beautiful, and delicious -- everyone loved the appetizers (caprese skewers, bell pepper and mango crostinis, mushroom crostinis, and tandoori shrimp skewers), and especially commented on the vegetable tart entree (which were incredible at the tasting as well and one of the main reasons we chose small thyme). Barbara and the rest of the Small Thyme crew are fantastic. We hired them for our wedding after meeting many caterers. They were by far the most warm, easy going and professional people we talked to. Barbara was very adaptable to the unique needs of our wedding and did not try to pressure us at any point. She was also full of advice throughout the planning process and really knew how to work our venue. The chefs are talented and the wait staff was friendly and on point. Small Thyme did an amazing job catering our June 30th wedding at the Gardens at Heather Farm! Prior to the wedding, all communication was professional and prompt. Barbara is very knowledgeable, friendly, and flexible. She worked hard to tailor our menu to fit our budget. She also referred our linen rental and day of coordinator. We went with rosemary chicken, tri tip, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans, napa salad, and fresh rolls. Everything was fresh, cooked well, flavorful, and served hot. The strawberry lemonade was a hit! The presentation was beautiful with mason jars and flowers. They used beautiful gold china for the bride and groom. The bartender we hired through small thyme was quick. We never saw a long line for the bar. He opened bottles as they were needed which was great because we were able to pass some out to the amazing staff/servers and keep the rest. I was most pleased with the excellent service. Small thyme staff was top notch! A server brought us ice water during our pictures (it was 103 so this was huge) and brought us appetizers before our grand entrance. My husband and I researched several different caterers for our wedding. We originally wanted to do tastings from a few different caterers, but just did one with Small Thyme. We tasted the food and we were sold! They had both buffet and plated services to choose from (at different prices). We chose to have a buffet style service for our wedding. Also, we wanted to have passed hors d'oeuvres during the cocktail hour. All the food was great and was exactly as we had tasted prior. We weren't able to taste the prime rib (due to marinating/cooking time), but it was the best; we had lots of compliments on how good the prime rib was. Barbara was great to work with and really answered any questions we had and made us feel more at ease about the whole thing. The entire wait staff was very professional and made the dinner service run smoothly. We just loved how Barbara made sure ever detail, from table layouts to folding the napkins, were discussed and taken care of. We were glad we went with Small Thyme for our wedding this last October! We came across Small Thyme (no longer located in Piedmont by the way, but in Richmond) as we were searching for a caterer who could feed our highly vegan and vegetarian crowd interspersed with some meat-loving foodies for our September wedding.  Small Thyme knocked it out the park!  From our first contact with them, they were prompt in replying to our calls, emails and set-up a tasting which did not happen with 4 of the other companies we reached out to.  Once my husband and I tasted their food, we were SOLD.  Fan-freaking-tastic.  Not to mention the service of the staff, the bartenders, the helping our event coordinator with set-up and everything from beginning to end.  All through cocktail hour our guests were saying this was the BEST vegan food they had ever had.Small Thyme is really BIG TIME in our opinion, so I suggest you give them a call if you are looking for delicious food, great service, and great staff at an affordable price....by the way, they cook meat and fish too--we just didn't serve it at our wedding.  We are planning on using them in the future for any events we may have. Very good food and prices..used them to cater our wedding a few months ago and they did a great job! Barbara is great throughout the planning process and did a great job putting me at ease that my wedding would run smoothly with Small Thyme doing the catering. Only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is there were a couple things done wrong that only my husband and I noticed (missing sauce at buffet, no oil/vinegar as told would be there)..and catering staff could use a little guidance in cake cutting, they left my beautiful 3 tier cake sitting uncut while serving small pieces while serving small pieces of my sheet cake to my 100+ guests.. Small Thyme Catering was absolutely amazing!  We hired them for our home wedding in August 2010. Every single person on their staff was courteous, cheerful and thoughtful.   They went above and beyond the call of duty to make our day perfect. The food was delicious and plentiful.  We had a buffet for 50 guests with appetizers, rib roast, chicken coq au vin, veggies, salad, amazing garlic mashed potatoes and more!  Guests raved about them the entire time and after the wedding.  Many guests went back for seconds at the buffet!  The bartender we hired was as equally amazing and worth every penny.  She was cheerful, organized and had a heavy hand - fabulous.  Barbara is a sweetheart and truly cares about your event.  She was really helpful in recommending other vendors as well.  We are so grateful for all their help and great service.  Thank god we listened to our gut and went with their company, we never regretted it for a second and if we ever have a catered event again, we will undoubtedly use them.  Seriously if you need a caterer and want a GREAT price go to Small Thyme.  Who knew that a catering company could become such a huge part of making our day beautiful !! Excellent 100X's over? Barbara was a pleasure to work with and truly delivered with the food and experience. We hired them for our wedding and people are still talking about the food and the presentation 6 months later. We were able to tweak our menu to reflect us as a couple, to showcase great California Cuisine and welcome the season Fall, since we got married in September, into the food.  We still go there for lunch and out next big event will be catered by them. Love, love, love Small Thyme! We looked at a few different companies to do the catering for our wedding but none really met our price range or expectations as well as Small Thyme did. They were fabulous on the day of as well, handled all the issues of the day as well.. Not as well as our guests who treated our buffet like it was all you can eat when hello it was cocktail hour time but they had back up pasta salad to solve that problem :) Barbara the co-owner is fabulous to work with, very accommodating and sweet. Last but not least their food is amazing! A great mix of different flavors and not the typical standards of most caterers. Small Thyme Catering did a great job. They were easy to work with and the food was great. Everyone said they had plenty of food and seemed happy with it. The only problem I had, was the to do with the cake. The lead for the evening didn't know how to break down a wedding cake and cut into the top layer, the layer we're supposed to cut into at our one year. I even spoke with him before about saving the top layer for us and breaking the rest of the cake down. At the end of the evening, after everyone left, I walked over to the cake table and a tower of cake with cut sides and with the top sitting there with four or so pieces cut from it stood wavering in the stillness of the lodge. Something you can't get back and I was a little disappointed. The next day I broke down the rest of the cake and gave my sister the bottom layer and split the second layer with my bridesmaids and my mom. The cut top layer sits in my freezer. More...

When my fiance and I were planning our wedding, we were mortified at not only how much catering costs strangled our budget, but also how highly most caterers thought of themselves. A chance lunch by a friend of ours introduced us to Small Thyme.We followed our friend's advice and had lunch at their former cafe (RIP). We were impressed by the food. But meeting the owners Larry and Barbara sealed the deal for us. Not only were they genuinely happy to have our business, they planned, cooked, and presented a wonderful wedding buffet for our guests.We especially enjoyed their flexibility with the menu to accommodate food allergies and special dietary needs (even my insane request for little individual pumpkin pies was honored!). Most caterers make you feel foolish for even thinking about suggesting such things. They even gave us up to a week before the wedding to make any last minute changes. Small Thyme's positive and supportive attitude toward event presentation took a serious weight off of our shoulders.The staff they brought in to run the show the day of our wedding was top-notch, as well. The only disappointment we experienced on our wedding day was that we never got to sample the cheese table Small Thyme prepared for us (we were a little busy). This is by far the best place i've ever eaten, the food is delicious, local usually organic and so good i can't wait to go again. I was heart broken when the told me the overhead was too much so the cafe is closed however they'll be on a select days like today and it was delicious! i will definitely be organizing a group of ten to have them open up for another delightful meal and i can think of a few events i will have them cater as well.Be aware that you can still taste the wonderful food just more selectively for awhile. Small Thyme catered my wedding this last April and I got compliments all night long!My now husband and I are both vegetarians and wanted to have a completely vegetarian wedding but finding a caterer that had enough vegetarian options to pull together a full menu including appetizers was difficult.  We made a Saturday late morning appointment with Small Thyme to taste their food.  When we arrived Barbara was there to greet us with cheese and chocolate fondues, breads, strawberries, cheese platters, amazing cheesy polenta, two types of pasta, focaccia... I can't even remember it all but we were stuffed and they sent us home with food.  We hired them on the spot, loving the food and the people.  Everyone loved loved loved the food that night, they were talking about it for days.  The only sad part was that we had lots of leftovers after the dinner and they took it all with them when they left.We also wound up getting our linens through them and after dropping off a swatch of our fabric for the decor, Barbara found a napkin that matched perfectly, I mean perfectly, for us.The only sad part was that when they left after dinner and cake, they took the table cloths with them so we were left with brown wood tables and an event still going on, but had I thought ahead at coordinating that, I'm sure I could have either worked something out or simply gotten the table cloths through the venue.The staff were fantastic.  They were friendly, they were flexible, they were hard working.  They were on top of it all night long.  I couldn't thank their staff enough!  I had cakes as my center pieces and when they were removed from the tables I had flowers with candles in the back to take their place and they took care of all of it for me.They went above and beyond what I expected from our caterer leaving me feeling like I got a steal even with the couple of minor things I mentioned, both being things I simply recommend you coordinate before your event.Thank you Small Thyme Catering!! Lots of people have been reviewing Small Thyme for its prowess as a restaurant, but what this place needs is a review of its catering service--and that's what I'm gonna do! When we made an appointment to try their food, they treated us like royalty.  We wanted catered service for our themed wedding, and we had some recipes for Egyptian food that we sent to them beforehand.  They did a masterful job with the preparation of these dishes, and we were impressed enough to choose them for the job.When the wedding came, they were very professional and everything ran smoothly.  Their servers were wonderful and were definitely one element of a very involved wedding that was not something to worry about.  They did arrive quite significantly late and this caused some worry for us at the start, although going across the Bay Bridge can of course be very trying with all of that traffic.  Everything was well in the end, but a phone call would have been nice though.The food tasted really great, although I did notice that the chicken dish was rather dry.  Everything was well-prepared, however, and this is only a minor criticism.Overall, I would recommend Small Thyme for their catering service.  They are versatile, flexible, talented, and are capable of putting on one heck of a spread.  They definitely know how to get the job done, and done well, in style. I have been waiting for good fish and chips for a long time and Small Thyme exceeded my expectations. I recently got back from Boston and had the same at Legal Seafoods and preffered Small Thyme. 4 soild chunks of Cod, which was battered, but just a thin layer, also not greasy, the batter still remained golden yellow. They begin with a nice focassia (it was fresh) with a duet of Balsamic/Olive Oil. The entree came with french fries which were freshly cut and tumbled with herbs and parmessan cheese. There was also a cup of cole slaw which not being a huge fan of to begin with was just OK, and overally dressed. I didn't realize the dipping sauce, a duet of a traditional tarter and a spicy aoili. I was done with my meal and discovered the spicy sauce and had to find something to dip into it. Service was attentive w/o being intrusive. I think I have found my new Friday lunch joint! More...
