I’ve been going here for three years. It feels like a lot of money, but no other fitness community will make you feel a part of a family like Shape will. The friendships, the accountability, and the intensely satisfying workouts are worth it. The coaches and trainers are very knowledgeable, take care to correct your form during classes, and are socially conscious, many of them donating their time to volunteer efforts. Finally this is a community for everyone. The coaches and members are very diverse and welcoming of new people, regardless of size, shape, fitness level, age, skin color, gender, and background. Shelly is one of the trainers there that I have known for years. I attend her classes majority of the time. You will never understand a good workout until you have a class with her. Body ache but it is all worth it at the end. I love Shape Training even if I can’t afford as many classes as I want to take but I will always go. Oh and there BootCamps are amazing!! More...

Once you experience Shape you will never want to go back to a cookie cutter gym. Shape has trainers and classes for all ages and abilities. If you are dealing with an injury they can also work with you and help to get you back to normal. I consider the Shape staff and other Shape members an extension of my family. I love everything that is Shape Training. The trainers, classes, and atmosphere are unmatchable. Whether I'm taking a boxing class or a personal training session it's a guaranteed amazing workout. If 2 years ago someone were to tell me that I would be working out before 6am multiple times a week I wouldn't have believed them but I genuinely look forward to going every time. All of the trainers are super knowledgeable and make it their number one priority to get to know you and help you achieve your goals while having fun at the same time. I can honestly say I'm stronger than I've ever been thanks to SHAPE. Hands down the best spot to workout in Pittsburgh. I highly recommend signing up for one of their classes. I walked in to SHAPE Training almost 3 years ago and never looked back. I do personal training with Casey and take their boxing and strength training classes. One of the best decisions I have ever made. I am stronger and feel better than I ever have. It has become an escape for me and I genuinely enjoy walking in every day. The coaches are supportive and skilled with each bringing their own style. They push you to go farther than you think you can and you walk out feeling better than when you walked in. I’ve belonged to several different gyms and tried countless classes over the years and SHAPE is the one that stuck. It’s challenging and never boring. And the best part – I have met great people who have become close friends. If you are looking for something different, a great atmosphere and a little fun in your workouts, I would highly recommend taking a class or meeting one of their trainers for a consultation – you won’t regret it! Friends are important. I have a lot of friends at Keystone Health Club. It takes me 30 -40 minutes to just get to my workout by the time I check in with my friends. Its a very versatile gym. I miss the cafe but the protein smoothies are good. More...

Awesome place to work and to workout....Something for everyone...the staff and the members make everyone feel so welcome. It really is perfect for the novice exerciser right through the serious athlete and from young athletes through 90+. They all get healthier and more fit here.
Tons of classes all included like Pilates, Zumba, Barre, Walk Live Silver Sneakers, Silver & Fit, CardioKick, Yoga, Expressing Grief Through Yoga, BOKWA, Ab Blaster.

I started training with Heather a little over a year ago when she took over the previous cross fit class, which is now The Grind. From day 1 you could tell a difference in Heather from other coaches. While this is a group class, Heather still takes the time to work with the individual, and makes you feel like you are almost in a personal training session every class. She cares about her clients, often taking time from her day to respond to emails and texts, which is not what other coaches do without a payment plan. She is here to really help her clients and you can tell she has fun doing it - in turn, we all have fun and it is a great class to break up the work day. I'd recommend Heather to anyone looking for a new gym coach, she goes above and beyond for us and has a true gift in helping people. More...

I only been training for 5 months with Heather and always look forward to going to class. She keeps it very upbeat and energetic. Always get a great workout in. She also answers any questions I have weather it's diet or on the workouts even if I'm at home and text her. I don't think many other trainers take the time out of the day to text a client back. I've been training with Heather since last Fall, first in the Suspension and Grind workouts ... then 1/week in personal training ... and now 2/week in personal training. I've worked with trainers in the past (and in fact have been a member of this gym since it first opened under the previous owner); I've never had a training program as solidly-planned and professionally coached as with Heather. I'm a very active person (martial arts, running, Pilates, yoga), and Heather has greatly increased my stability, balance, and overall strength. The use of the BMI measurements and scans provides a lot of motivation (numbers don't lie), and that combined with Tara's nutritional guidance has resulted in changes that I can both see and feel. The SHAPE team is uber-committed to the overall health of their clients, and the gym offers something for everyone regardless of age or existing physical conditioning. Soooo, I walked in for a class tonight and felt intimidated/out of place (I need you to know, I haven’t set foot in a gym since being forced to in high school). That intimidation went away as soon as I met James. He welcomed me, showed me where to put my stuff, told me a little about what to expect. I met a few other coaches who are all equally as nice and the. The class started.

Holy smokes. It kicked my butt! I love that the workouts rotate, and it wasn’t an hour of the same thing over and over again. It was fun, energetic, and at the end of it I felt great.

I think Shape just hooked me - a guy who’s been avoiding gyms for the past 8 years...

This place is unlike any other. The committment of every trainer to the health and wellness of each patron is inspiring. I only go once a week and still feel I am part of a family. They are also philanthropists and host fund raisers for charity, plus they arrange social events a few times a year as well. A truly one of a kind group. More...

I've been to many gyms and worked with a variety of trainers. This place is above and beyond anything else I've tried. I'm always a little nervous before I go, because I never know what to expect, which is awesome. The trainers are all high-energy and encourage you to really push yourself. If you're looking for a place where you can zone out on an elliptical for a half hour, this is not your gym. But if you want one hell of a workout, you've found your place. More...

The instructors at Shape are very knowledgeable and friendly. As a fitness professional I hold other coaches to a high standard and from what I observed throughout the gym, all of the instructors know their stuff. Sam's class was fun, challenging, informative, and easy to follow. If I lived in the state I would have joined on the spot. Shape Training has proven consistently to be committed to their clients, and they've been essential to me in my fitness goals. I have personal training there and do boxing classes, and both of these are easily the best workouts that I've done in my life. The coaches are all incredibly friendly, welcoming (yet they'll still definitely push you!), and take the time to learn who you are. When you walk into Shape Training, you not only gain a coach, trainer, & friends, but an entire family. Every coach at Shape Training is there for you to better yourself physically, as well as mentally - not to mention that the experience that each and every one of them have is unique and second to none.

When you walk through the doors at Shape Training, you best drop your ego at the door, and prepare yourself for an invigorating workout, while having a damn good time doing it. The training is intense, and manipulated each week to keep your body guessing.

This is hands down the best place to train in Pittsburgh, as I can guarantee that there is no better atmosphere, coaches, or people in this city. I highly recommend coming through Shape Training ASAP if you're looking to improve your lifestyle both mentally and physically.

Not a cookie cutter gym.Shape Training’s gym is not filled with machines that require monotonous movements repeated session after session, it is instead staffed with professionals that tailor workouts to your needs and desires. Whether you’re a twenty something ready to take on a marathon, or a fifty-year-old wanting to keep doing the things you love, the trainers at Shape will craft a plan perfect for you.The atmosphere at Shape is welcoming and supportive. There are group classes if your budget precludes one-on-one training, however the personal training is quite affordable by industry standards. This is not a place filled gym rats preening in front of mirrors, but instead a lively space filled with people of all ages working towards their goals. My daughter was (and still is) an enthusiastic member of the gym and she encouraged me to take part in personal training with Sarah Holick. one of the owners at Shape. After a lifetime of confidence in my body’s ability to do whatever I wanted it to do, time began to take a toll on that certainty. Nagging questions about what my limitations were, a decline in flexibility and a knee that told me “no more high impact activities” drove me to begin an exercise program at Shape Training. For me, the emphasis has been on total body workouts, emphasizing functional fitness, but with enough challenge that I have seen a tremendous increase in strength and confidence. Ten “real” push-ups are pretty good for a 60-year-old broad!Sarah hits the perfect balance of pushing me beyond my comfort zone, while respecting body’s limits. A bonus is that she has a graduate degree in marriage and family counseling, making her a terrific confidant and friend. Our time together has been life-changing both physically and mentally. I am very grateful I got turned on to this place, I could kiss my friend for getting me to try a class one day. This training facility is by far one of the best I have been to around Pittsburgh. I am dedicated to a fit lifestyle I love working out, I love lifting but the thought of your average group class made me cringe. I have been and belonged to many different gyms, studios and classes. This facility brings an edge to training like none I have seen around. It puts an athletic spin on the classes and it challenges you in ways that is essential to getting maximum results and this is something that is missing from most fitness classes. It isn't even fair to call it a class.. I consider even their group classes to be more like training. They make it fun with great music and many tools you can use to track your progress. Every trainer that I have encountered so far has been very pleasant and motivating. You can tell they truly want you to push your hardest and get maximum results. If your going to invest your time and hard earned money into fitness classes or a training facility I guarantee Shape Training is worth every penny. They have many options to choose from, I personally do a group class of my choice once a week.. (sometimes two). The group classes are limited so you MUST pre register because it is not uncommon for peak times and weekends to fill up but they have a waiting list... I have yet to have run into a real issue with this. They also have a great app that's extremely user friendly. It allows you to check your account, view details of the class, book classes, cancel class or add to a waiting list for a class. They also offer private one on one training. I do not do this option only because it is not in my budget, if it was I would have gotten that option but you cant win them all. Their classes are also pretty unique and innovative(descriptions are on the website I believe). I have not been this challenged in and or excited about classes in my whole life. My father use to body build and when I tell him about what I do in some of these classes he wishes he was young again (true story). Shape has a long term customer here. I already referred a few friends here an one cant stop talking it up . So this five star review is well deserved. I hope this review helps to get you to at least try it out. What an awesome place to work out!!! I’ve been going to Shape for a little over a year and it’s been the best! My husband and I do private sessions with Marty once a week and take classes regularly with all of the trainers. The setup and schedule for the group classes are great. Shape starts each class with a group warm-up and ends each class with a group cool-down and the time in between is action packed. Every class is different and not repetitive at all so I always feel engaged in the work out. Also, the jams are pumped so it’s a lot of fun! One thing to note is that each class only holds about 10 people so it’s a good idea to schedule in advance. Marty does a great job tailoring our personal sessions to our current ability but still pushes us to go further. He modifies different exercises for me vs. my husband based on our strengths. Marty definitely kicks our butt during each session but it’s always such a good work out and we learn a lot from our time with him. I’ve seen such great results and differences since coming to Shape and I’d totally recommend this gym to anyone! More...
