I have found the best pastrami in NYC! This place beats all the others. Parking is the only complaint I have because parking is available only after 7pm, unless you have commercial plates. Nonetheless, it is worth it.

{Overall: 4; Food; 4}; Service: 4.5; Atmosphere: 3.5You feel like you're in a classic NY Jewish deli. The servers are old school. If you're choosing between Katz and Sarges: Katz tastes *slightly* better, but I'd choose Sarges because the difference is marginal, it has a better atmosphere, better service, and isn't just a tourist location.*Bagel with whitefish: the whitefish is SO good and a nice alternative to lox*Corned Beef: Yum. Better than the pastrami. So moist and well-seasoned.*Hot borscht: Never had borscht before, but has great flavor (a little tart, a little hearty) and diced beets.*Chicken Consomme with noodles: Delicious broth. Wish it had some pieces of meat or vegetables. Was literally just broth with noodles. Maybe I had to specify?I'll be trying the cakes next. More...

The inside looks dated and it wasn't too busy for holiday time Saturday afternoon lunch (2pm). Wasn't as big as i expected (about 30 seats? )We were seated (party of 4) after 5 minutes. The older diner type lady server was pleasant and overall service was good. We all had the half sandwich and soup combo. The pastrami on rye was very good. The various soup were pretty tasty especially the matsa ball soup. Overall experience was good although I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. More...

We tried this deli for the first time this trip and ordered corned beef, pastrami and a triple decker club. Â My favorite part of the meal was the turkey club and cheesecake. I don't care what anyone says, Sarge's has the very best Corned Beef/Pastrami on Rye in all of Manhattan. Â They cure and cook their meat, sliced thin and piled high with Russian dressing and Cole slaw. Â Wow was it juicy and delicious. This place is true NYC.  I've eaten in and had take out several times.  Epic sandwiches, all the fixings.  Sensational chicken consommé / bone broth that is well packed when sent for delivery.  The staff are kind to you if you are kind to them.  They are fast with water (nice with ice) and coffee (its bottomless for a reason, drinkable but not for coffee snobs).  Haven't tried the extensive reaches of their menu but their breakfast, brunch, sandwich and soup options are all top notch.  Plus the sides of fresh pickles, slaw and its seems house baked rye bread are hearty and authentic.  24 hours is a classic NYC, pro for the close! Very classic NYC. Â Signed autographs on the walls, lots of menu options, and warm atmosphere. Â The hostess was a bit slow to greet us (and not exactly chipper), but we were happy to chat and be out of the cold until seated. Â It took even longer for the server to see us, but she was very pleasant and had good suggestions. Â My friend had the Hungarian goulash which was good, but she felt it was lacking the usual flavoring of goulash. Â The stew meat was in very large chunks - like pot roast - and it's flavor overwhelmed the dish. Â It was $25, so I think she may have regretted the choice.I, on the other hand, had the most amazing knish of my life!! Â Knish stuffed with corned beef and a smear of brown mustard. Â Delicious! Â I also tried the spinach knish. Â Tasty, but not nearly as good, and a bit cold. Finally, we both had cheesecake - one original and one with berries. Â Both were amazing. More...

I salute you Sarge's. Absolutely delicious eggs Benedict. Even Despite the sheer hazard of delivering expertly poached eggs to my home. Sarge's delivered an eggs Benedict with not two, but, three creamy egg yolks. Accompanied by a judicious helping of their flavorful and properly viscous hollandaise sauce. The home fries were good but, not memorable. I missed the crunchiness and bold flavors from the potatoes. The English muffins were fresh, toasted, and adequately buttered. Solid breakfast. I decided to update my review and change to 5 stars. The delivery fees have gone down which is nice or if you order from them directly, you get a discount which offsets the delivery fee. The prices may seem a bit high but the portions are very big. The Bronx sliders are still among my favorite but I sometimes have a problem where they add onions even when I don't want them. Some of my other favorites are the rack of lamb, French onion soup, and black out cake. I do wish they'd use a bigger container for the slices of cake because they tend to show up crushed against the lid and for $8 for a slice of cake, you'd expect it to show up in tact. More...

Save room in your belly for Sarge's Deli! Â Every time I visit NYC, I think this to myself - I've been here in numerous occasions and at various times of day, and have never been disappointed with the quality of the dishes, the speed of the kitchen, and the portions are very, very generous. Â Today, I came with my daughter for a late morning breakfast, which is the busiest I've ever seen it. Â As they're known for their Nova Scotia, my daughter chose to order a Nova bagel platter, and I chose a garden omelette with a side of well done bacon, and we shared all of the above. Â The Nova was the best I've ever had, and the law people know how to do bacon right! Â My all-time fave from the past, however, is the open Reuben, which is startling in size when they set it down in front of you, and is just an incredible sandwich (enough for 2 people, though!) 4/5 food3/5 service 3/5 pricing I've dined at Sarge's twice for lunch and once for takeout. First time I had the twin rolls special - one pastrami, one corned beef. I choose to have Russian, Mayo, and mustard on the side. The waitress looked at me funny but hey it's my choice lady. The chicken noodle soup, pickles, and coleslaw were good with the lunch special. Second time I had the Pastrami half sandwich with barley soup special. Very good. Service- the gentleman who brought me my beverage was very kind but the place didn't feel welcoming in general. The waitress both times was unfriendly. For delivery one night at my job I ordered a pastrami on rye extra lean first cut. Came with pickles and coleslaw. With their delivery charge the sandwich came to $35!The pastrami is excellent but dang, this is a once in a while treat for sure. The sandwich wasn't that big to me either. Came here last Sunday with my parents, the food was fantastic!! The dinner special was a great deal, $28 for a soup or salad, meal and a drink. I had the Ceasar salad, brisket with kasha varnishkas and brocoli, mom had knockwurst with baked beans and fries and dad had matzo ball soup and pastrami sandwich. My meal was amazing, and the portion was huge, I had 3 meals out of it. The brisket was so tender and the kasha dish was a pleasant surprise, never tried kasha mixed with anything might be my new favorite comfort food. And the gravy was delicious. The pastrami was so tender, cut a little thinner than what you expect from a Jewish deli but delicious anyway. The dressing on the ceasar salad was very light which I liked. After a visit to NYU Langone for an appointment with my Orthopedist, I was heading back to Staten Island. Â I had just moved to New York about six week's ago and always wanted to go to Sarge's to compare to other great delis in New York. Â Only a five minute walk from the doctor's office I went in around noon to order some take-out for dinner. Â $116 later, I entered both the subway and then the Staten Island Ferry with a heavy shopping bag of some of the best pastrami and corned beef I have ever eaten. Â What a treat! Â The pastrami was cured perfectly and the corned beef was superb. Â Add in some knishes (kasha), some great tasting cole slaw and condiments and you have one of the best tasting old fashioned deli food I have ever had. Â The service was excellent and dinner was divine. Â This deli is far superior to Katz's, in my opinion, and the location and the fact that it is open 24/7 is an added bonus. Â Although $116 may seem outrageous for cold cuts, once you taste the quality of the food you realize it was a bargain. Â If you are in the mood for some good old-fashioned Jewish deli food, you won't be disappointed. More...
