Sampino's is my absolute favorite. Every time I walk in, I am transported back to my Noni's kitchen with all the smells and delicious food that comes with it. I debated whether to give this review and give away this place but due to the one way street it's located on, I feel like people truly do miss what this place is all about. It is a really authentic and delicious dining, deli counter and catering business on a busy one way street. It's dining hours and location are a bit short, only open till 5.  I'm rarely ever available before then on weekdays and seem to be elsewhere on weekends, ie, not nearby. When I was nearby, I stopped in each week and bought their awesome bread. I feel their business would blossom big time if they had a new location away from the traffic and some unfortunate local issues (panhandlers....)  that occur nearby.  Still, I highly recommend a visit and go inside to explore if you are near!Five Stars is for the smiling and pleasant service, the incredibly tasty crusty bread that can be purchased separately at the counter, and the kindness to sell me butter one time when I took their awesome bread and butter to a potluck. OF COURSE I hear that ALL sandwiches are plenty delicious. The cold case as you walk up is a display of ready to go Italian specialties that are top of the line tasty. I used to make a trip in specially for the freshest, crustiest bread, which was baked to perfection, not too much, not too light. You have to try some!Again, the place is such a sweet place in kind of a disheveled strip mall, don't be put off -  food and service is top notch!  Haven't enjoyed dinner here, ie, full on traditional Italian entrees complete with Italian wines and Italian specialty desserts tempt me when I am buying my bread, but somehow I can never arrive for the dinners!Sampino's is on my bucket list for sure! Love the vibe and environment of this place. It's definitely a cozy, family-style eatery with delicious Italian food. They have sandwiches on a menu off to the left, and various items in a deli case you can choose from. Service was friendly and hospitable, in a very warm neighborly way. I ordered the Le Rustique sandwich with prosciutto and Brie, as well as marinated mushrooms and 2 dolmas. All of this came out to $21 with no drink. The sandwich alone was $12. The sandwich was served on toasty bread, I liked it a lot but I thought the meat servings on the sandwich were a bit conservative for the price. The deli items looked absolutely delicious. This is such a wonderful little bistro and deli. I stumbled across it while staying at an AirBNB just across the street. It was so delicious. I had the pasta primodoro the first time, then went back the next day for the beet salad (roasted and used tops as well), cucumber salad with creamy dill, the Rustique sandwich (roll was incredibly delicious and chewy). Sampino's has a great atmosphere and a great staff. From the moment you walk in, you sense that they truly care about your experience and the quality of the food. Needed to order Box lunches for a business meeting.. decided to deviate from the traditional franchise sandwich shop and try local Italian Deli. .. google search lead me to Sampino's ! What a gem in Sacramento! Lovely day time business open for lunch. Bill even had all our sandwiches bagged and labeled which was perfect as the attendees had planes to catch quickly that day. While taking people to the airport, the attendees asked " where did you get those sandwiches?" They were so delicious and the bread was outstanding! We ordered, Tri-tip, and turkey minus cranberry in case that's more of a personal option. I think any sandwich you choose, you won't be disappointed! So glad we found you! Such a wonderful, old school place. On my last visit someone was playing the piano in the next room and it was so atmospheric! !  The caprese sandwich is sooo good. After a long absence from all things animal, I've been on a mission to try what I've missed out on over the years.  Next on the list is Sampino's.  I devoured their meatball sandwich back in the day but of course didn't Yelp it for posterity sake.  Who am I to complain about a return visit?This time I ordered what seems like 2 of the most popular sandwiches- tri-tip and meatloaf, tasting a bit of each and trying to savor each bite.  Each sandwich comes with a nice side salad and balsamic vinaigrette.  I have to say I'm liking the tri-tip more so as I'm not a huge mayo/aioli/Dijon fan, and the meatloaf had all plus balsamic.  Tastebuds didn't know what to think other than continually reaching for the tri-tip.  They both were hefty sandwiches with just enough veggies and an abundance of meat.  No complaints there.I saw the array of desserts in the deli case and immediately zeroed in on the chocolate chip cannoli.  Ever since Dianda's closed shop (major sads), I've been searching for a replacement.  I'm just not a fan of this one.  I'm spoiled by Dianda's sweetened ricotta and chips throughout, and this one had neither.  To each their own, and I'll just have to return and try their other desserts, darn.They still offer Friday night dinner once a month, call for reservations and availability.  The menu changes each month and showcases seasonal offerings.  Someday I will make it! Best sandwiches in Sac hands down! They're expensive for the quantity of food you get, and the area they're in but their sandwiches have high quality fresh ingredients and are an absolute delight to your tastebuds! The store is in a slightly dodgy area but once you're inside, you are transported into a charming little Italian deli with a restaurant and piano bar attached on the other side. The staff is very friendly and you get to peek at the homemade treats in the deli counter. I've tried everything from their raviolis, to cannolis, to sausages, and they're all great but what really stands out is their sandwiches. The meatball and chicken parm are to die for!!! The bread and the ingredients are super fresh, and they have perfected the ingredients:bread:condiments ratio. So i used to live right in the neighborhood and would have to make regular visits to the laundromat next door and I would always pop in here for one of their delicious sandwiches. That was about 3 years ago. About 2 months back I happened to be in the area with a buddy and we were looking for somewhere to have a quick lunch and stopped in to my old haunt to see if it was still as good as I remember. I haven't been to 16th St Sampino's ever since the Joe Marty's location opened on Broadway.  I'm glad I dropped by!Still a great menu, still a great deli-case.  If you like a good Reuben then Sampino's is your place.  They've added 10 or so tables on the inside and have kept the store in top shape.
