PHENOMENAL! We had a group of 6 people and everyone tried different things. The brisket, shrimp po' boy, mac n cheese, and red beans were all amazing. Don't be fooled by the outside - you WANT to pop in. More...

What a quaint find. We usually eat at another bbq spot,  but lately they are closed, ran out of food,  just not good.  So I yelp  and this popped up,  so we gave it a try. A good spot to stop in at.  The bbq sauces are really good,  the cornbread was good as well. I'm very sceptical of cornbread with jalapenos,  but this was tasteful and didn't burn your mouth. The Chicken sandwich was delicious and I liked how the chicken was cut up and not chunks like most bbq places, where you have take a bite and hold the chicken in the other hand so you don't dropped the huge junk on your plate.  All in all, a new place to eat. LOVED IT! I am partial to a little bit of Cajun and BBQ so I was already super happy to find this place, but it lived up to all expectations and some. Excellent food (my favs were the ribs, Jambalaya, tater tots and the Cajun catfish). The service was so friendly - the two ladies working there were awesome and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this little hole in the wall. More...

Best food in town for sure!! It is right by my place so i eat here as often as possible. Im from Mississippi, so the food here is as close as it gets to the south being that its in Arizona. Personally i like the catfish the best but the brisket comes in second if not first as well. If you live in town or just passing through, it is a must stop shop!! More...

This place had me hooked ever since I saw a fellow yelper's video of the pork ribs falling off the bone. Satchmo's is a great choice for bbq. My husband and I were hungry and shared the pulled pork sammich, which came with 2 sides as well as the full rack of ribs, which also came with 2 sides. For sides, we got the cornbread, mac n cheese, slaw, and sweet potato fries. The pulled pork and ribs were moist. Went great with the bbq sauce they had on the table. As for the sides, we loved the mac n cheese and sweet potato fries. The cornbread and slaw were lackluster and I wouldn't recommend them. We almost finished everything. We had some leftovers to take back to the hotel. All in all with tip and tax, we paid a little over 56 bucks. I would definitely come back for this bbq when back in Flagstaff again. More...

We stopped in after finding it on yelp. We live in Phoenix so it was a little hard to find for us and when we pulled up, we looked at each other like... this is it But I am SO GLAD we went in! It was a small homey place and very clean. The menu was diverse but not too much. I ordered the bbq chicken sandwich, Mac and cheese and red beans and rice. The sides were phenomenal....I could have eaten all side dishes! The bbq chicken sandwich was fantastic. I actually get grossed out by fat on meats and this was perfect for me. No fat, just chicken (or so it appeared Bc it's more of a shaved chicken not pulled or sliced.) my husband ordered the catfish. Now take this with a grain of salt because we are from southern Arkansas and northwest Florida, we know real, good catfish. It was just, ok. It was plain, not seasoned well for catfish. But like I said, were used to a certain kind of fried catfish and flavor. Could just be a different style out here. My husbands tots and fries were fantastic. I am not sure about the service, as you just order at the counter and make your own drink and stuff, but they looked nice. We need more of these places around Phoenix. Small, local spots with excellent food. We will definitely be back on our way through flagstaff! More...

OMG!  It was amazing. We ordered Lil Mo's because we wanted to try everything and it was so much food. We got falling off the bone pork ribs, pulled pork, brisket, jambalaya & tater tots. Everything was so delicious even the red beans w/rice which we ordered extra. We also got 4 buns that came with our meal. I will definitely eat here again if I'm in the area. The service was so friendly, helpful and fast too. And all that great tasting food was very reasonable for what we got. What a plus! More...

We were just staying the night in Flagstaff and this place was chosen by my spawn, they are frickin psychic when it comes to picking the best hole in the wall restaurants.  It was me, my beloved spawn and my 87 y/o dad.  It was a tad loud in the kitchen so he went and shushed them...But the place smelled delicious so we ordered. Spawn and dad ordered drafts in glasses.  I noticed there was a patio and asked the fam if they wanted to sit outside as it was a really nice evening.  Well there was a step up and, although I warned my dad of the step, he didn't make it, fell, and sliced the bu-jeezzus out of his arm l, as he had fallen on the glass.I won't detail this any more for you but I just wanted to give a seriously grateful thank you to the owner/manager as he was so kind and helpful. He packed up our food as my dad was whisked to the Medical Center.  While it was not hot it was still super tasty!! The next morning my dad ate the jambalaya for breakfast and gave it 5 stars. More...

Yooooo! This place is damn amazing! Let's start with that brisket: Melt in your filthy mouth! Make you back flip while barefoot in the summer on the pavement. Next up! That Blackened Catfish, served on a bed of rice: So good and savory, I had to ask everyone to keep it down so I could hear how good that bad boy tasted. I heard the flavor... you read that right. Imma breeze past the sweet potato fries and coleslaw, but just know they were fantastic sides. I dipped my fries in the spicy bbq and the Cajun sauce I had for my fish. NOW! The holy grail of the place, that slammin' Mac n Cheese: I 'bout damn near karate chopped my table and side kicked my server! Mac n Cheese ain't suppose to be that good. I had to listen to soothing sounds of nature on compact disc to calm my butt down. It had the flavor sections on my face acting out. I don't know what kind of dark arts they got going on in that kitchen, but they got it down to a delicious science! My brother and I stopped here after an 11 mile hike, and we weren't disappointed. Drove an hour for lil slice of "oooo weeee!" We're coming back tomorrow. Gonna try the gumbo and maybe desert. More...

This has to be the best place to eat at in flagstaff. Amazing food, and also nice people work here. I got the smofried catfish, and it was the first time I've gotten catfish, but I'm afraid about trying it again at a different place since it won't be as good as it was here. The tater tots and Mac and cheese were a cherry on top and were so delicious, and the rice was also great. The orange sauce mixed perfectly with the catfish and added a great flavor. The place also wasn't that busy during 1:00 pm, which I was surprised about. It also has a "old western town" look to the building, which was nice. I feel like this place should get more attention than it already has, since the food is so great. More...

My 80 yr old mother said the ribs were the best she had ever eaten!  Everything we ordered on our 2 visits during our vacation in Flagstaff was great!  I usually don't like catfish but tasted my husbands and liked it. The gumbo has that authentic file flavor and the jambalaya was spicy, just the way it is supposed to be. The brisket was the best I've ever had.  It's fun to sit out on the patio.  The mac n' cheese is really good, also the special seasoned tater tots.  I had a andouille sausage po' boy that was perfectly flavored!  Don't miss out - go to this restaurant! Who knew the best cajun food I have had would be in northern Arizona?! I found this gem on a weekend trip to Flagstaff with my mom and, I have to say, this is my new favorite restaurant up north. It's kind of hidden, but totally worth it. Not only was the food great (I recommend the jambalaya and the mac and cheese - so good), but the service was excellent. So this place has some pretty good Creole food. Searching on yelp for some good places to try around Flagstaff, Satchmo's definitely topped the list with good reviews. Even some of the people we met here in Flagstaff said Satchmo's was a good place to try.We did takeout here and ordered Jumbalaya, which came with 2 sides of your choice. I ordered the tots and the Mac and cheese for around $16. It was on the more pricey side but the Jumbalaya was super flavorful and the sides were delicious.  Wow this makes me hungry again thinking about it.Overall, highly recommend trying while in Flag. We came here on a weekend trip to Flagstaff. My husband had been here before and wanted me to try it because he loved it so much. The patio was a great area that was private from the traffic and had plenty of shade. It was a fun outdoor atmosphere. I had the pulled chicken sandwich with macaroni and sweet potato fries. My husband got the cornbread, potato salad and pulled pork sandwich. We shared most of it so we could get a taste of it all. It was delicious. Hidden behind a gas station lies this amazing cajun/creole BBQ place...Satchmo's!Menus on the side, order before sitting down at a table. There is a outside area for seating as well. We ordered:1/2 rack of pork ribs w/ a pickle1/2 pint of JambalayaSides with seasoned tater tots and cole slawFood seems to take a while but really it's because you smell the food that's already out on other patrons tables making you feel like you've been waiting for a long time when you really haven't. Our food came out in approximately 30-45 minutes. We just dug in after it arrived and demolished what we ordered in 15-20 minutes. Considering how crowded they were the wait staff was busy bussing tables and bringing out orders. Our meal arrived in 15 mins. The food was delicious. We found this restaurant ( thank you Yelp! ) on a drive north, off the beaten path , but super easy to get to from major highways and with lots of parking.  Even if we had had to search for it, it would have been well worth it.  Everything we ordered was excellent.  The burnt ends were juicy and meaty, not super sweet, but very tasty.  The cornbread was moist and just a little bit spicy, not too sweet.  Good coleslaw that was well seasoned.  We were there on a busy Saturday at lunchtime, and it is a small restaurant that was filling up quickly.  Nevertheless, the food was coming out quickly and everyone was in a good mood.  It was a yummy experience and we will be back.  There is also a dog friendly patio. Love the energy, friendly & they shout out to order catfish just to name a few!  Quite a large menu, something for everyone spicy or not!  I get the sho mo shrimp pi boy, bread is yummy love the shrimp with corn meal fry & the coleslaw yummy. Beans are decadently rich & potato salad have a unique spicy seasoning but not too much!   Dirty rich is too spicy for me cuz I am a weenie but hubby loves it & don't forget a basket of the cornbread, more like a decadent tasty cake!'  Quick service & friendly staff!  Can't wait to go back!  They do have a selection of craft beers for all y'all & are dog friendly!!! Outstanding BBQ in this local spot.Satchmo's is tucked into a strip mall behind a gas station, well off the tourist path. It's non-descript and a little intimidating with no windows facing the parking lot.  The aroma from the smoker permeates the air and is enticing. There about about 10 tables inside plus a few on the patio. You order at the counter and they bring food to the table. The crew is having fun, calling the orders out with a sing-song confirmation from the kitchen. The place is filled with locals, and doing a brisk take-out business. Always a great sign of good food when you're among locals. The menu is a split between New Orleans favorites and BBQ fare. The smoker subliminally influenced... And BBQ it is.We tried the brisket and the pulled pork. Each comes with 2 sides, we chose beans, cole slaw, corn bread and sweet potato fries. The brisket and pork are as good as I've ever had. Brisket is smoky, moist, lean and fork tender. Pulled pork equally moist, tender and flavorful. There are sweet and spicy sauces at the table - tomato based, not vinegar or mustard.Cajun influence abounds in the sides. Smoked beans, with pork & beef ends and some Cajun spice heat. Southwest slaw (vinegar-dressed) with more of those Cajun spices. And the corn bread, moist, not sweet, with jalapeños baked in to add some pop.For two sandwiches, 4 sides and a couple of iced teas, the tab was $30.  Inexpensive for food this quality and quantity. Next time will have to try a few New Orleans specialities.  Highly recommended! More...

Everything was so flavorful and cooked well. The sides are very inconsistent in size- two tablespoons of slaw but a ginormous amount of fries? That was strange but the good seasoning on everything kind of made up for it. More...

I don't come here often, but when I do, I usually enjoy my meals. I've had the pulled pork, brisket, & jambalaya at company picnics and they're tasty. Not a big fan of the coleslaw though. During my last trip I had a half pint of chili which was ok. And a kids meal with mac and cheese, tater tots and bread pudding. I figured it was a good way to make my own "sample platter". Mac and cheese and tater tots were good. The bread pudding I thought was pretty amazing! My wife had the chili and it being gluten free was a big plus for her allergies! More...

I was on the return leg of a long road trip and Flagstaff was in my sights as a dinner stop before driving a couple more hours to spend the night. I used Yelp to find some seafood and Satchmo's looked very appealing to me. With a mix of bbq and cajun my appetite was wetted. Arriving at about 6 p.m. the restaurant was almost full with a short waiting line. At the counter, I ordered a Smo Fried Shrimp Po Boy (yes that's what they call it!) with sides of mac n cheese and their special seasoned tots for $13.25.After grabbing an open table and getting my drink at their self serve station the food came out in about 10 minutes. Honestly, my first impression was that the po boy looked a little small (6-7"). However, as I dug into it I realized quickly how much of a quality sandwich it was. About 3 big shrimp on each half of that very good bread with a yummy remoulade sauce and cole slaw made this an excellent eat! The mac n cheese was cheesy, creamy, smooth and a joy to eat. Finally, I am a fan of their seasoned tots. Some of the best tater tots I have had. Nicely seasoned and not too soft. They were a great alternative to French fries. As you can tell, I would order this meal again in a heartbeat.Currently with over 1,000 reviews and a 4.5 average, I agree. I could give a 5 but will instead give a 4. This is only because it was my first visit and I didn't try their bbq. I hope to return and do that one day. This may very well be a 5 restaurant. Come eat here! More...

Do yourself a favor and don't pass this place up! I had the jambalaya, dirty rice, and cornbread. I can't believe the authenticity of a Cajun place in Flagstaff, Az. The food had the perfect blend of seasoning and heat. There was a limited selection of beer but they had great choices. The food came out quickly and the staff was super friendly. Not to mention the atmosphere -- kitschy decor and fabulous music! Don't be fooled by the location or the outside "hole in the wall" appearance. You are missing out if you don't eat here! More...

Never been to Flagstaff, but this place was recommended by a friend. It was a great pit stop since we were coming from Phoenix and on our way to Page. It's conveniently located right behind a Shell gas station too. Cute little Creole restaurant with decent prices for big portions. If you're on a restricted diet, I would not recommend this place due to all the seasonings / flavors used. However if you love seasoned food -- can't go wrong here. Ordered the following for less than $40: -Pulled Pork w/ 2 sides (Mac&Cheese & Tots)-Blackened Catfish over Jambalaya w/ 2 sides (Corn bread & Tots) -Fried fish with rice Barbecue sauce and orange sauce is pretty yummy with all of the items. Stopped by on our drive to Phoenix at the recommendation of our friends. Casual quick service with paper table cloths and crayons! Louis Armstrong inspired decor with quotes and music notes on the walls.  This place has a great vibe! We ordered the chicken sandwich, which my husband loved, with 2 sides, potato salad and smoked baked beans. Then we ordered a full rack of ribs (some for now, more for later) with 2 larger sides (1 smoked beans and 1 coleslaw) The portions were perfect. The ribs came with a rub and the seasoning of the ribs on it, not sauce, and they fell off the bone. The sauce was on the table, both gluten free and tasty. I have a gluten allergy and they were able to answer my questions about the food, which gives me peace of mind when eating out. We look forward to stopping again our next time in town. More...

I'm pretty sure the guys name is Joe, he took my to go order over the phone, and every time I've come into the restaurant he has been phenomenal. He really is helpful and makes great suggestions. This is truly the only place to get anything close to soul food in northern Arizona, and I would go as far as to say the best "comfort" food in Arizona. The macaroni and cheese with the crispy potato on top, bomb. The shrimp Po boy is truly next level. Their potato salad has a little bit of a kick, but oh my golly! I am glad that I did not take a spontaneous trip to Sedona because I would completely miss out Satchmo's if that actually happened. Satchmo's specializes in Cajun comfort food. I really like their concise and simple menu because all of signature items are highlighted in yellow and there's even a page with explanations of certain terms like "blackened catfish style" and "dirty rice". Once you place an order at the counter, then the staff will bring food out to your table.***Blacken Catfish Style Basa (Filet) Po'boy (served on toasted bread with tomatoes, our slaw & house-made remoulade) + Two Sides (Dirty Rice and Red Beans & Rice) for $13.25: Dirty rice (cooked with pork, beef & chicken) came from the fact that this side dish had a "dirty" color and it tasted like a slightly spicy version of really delicious meaty fried rice. Red beans & rice side dish had a really nice combination of beany and meaty texture. I am not a huge bean person, but really like red beans & rice side dish. Po'boy had chewy bread, slightly sweet lettuce, and lightly peppered & salted catfish. All of ingredients worked in harmony and I couldn't get enough of it!***Hands down one of the best po'boy I have ever had and I wouldn't be surprised if this place appears on the Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat list in the future. Found myself in Flagstaff with some friends plus their children. It was early afternoon and we were all starving, looking for something local, special, and satisfying. I saw the reviews w/ pics on yelp and mentioned how they have table tops the kids can color on, which is a HUGE thing when you've got hungry, little ones in tow. Sold. This establishment is located at the end of a small strip mall. It looks rather 'divey' from the outside but the windows are painted and inviting so we took our chances. Once inside, we were warmly welcomed by the staff and told we could grab a seat and order when ready. With blues music in the background, we decided on several entrees and sides. We ordered at the counter and served ourselves from the drink fountain. The hot food arrived quickly and man was it good! I had the cajun-style catfish with lemon slices, jalapeno cole-slaw, and seasoned tots. It was EXCELLENT! Another had the brisket which was equally delicious, made me a bit jealous I hadn't ordered it myself.  One of the kids had a small rack of ribs which were perfectly seasoned - just a tad too spicy for her so she shared with the table. Lucky us! Throughout our visit, the staff made sure we had everything we needed. They were genuinely nice and gracious. Considering the quality of the food and the kind service, the prices were fine. Satchmo's...I honestly didn't have very high hopes for this place, just because I'm not a gigantic fan of cajun/creole food- but man, was I wrong. First off, the service was great. The lady that helped us at the ordering counter was polite and happy, as were the rest of the people that serviced us at the table. All around good experience as far as customer service goes. The food was honestly one of the best meals that I've had in quite a long time. It was a little bit on the pricier side, but I think they get a pass since the food was so good. I got the blackened shrimp po' boy, potato salad, tots, and a side of Mac and cheese as well. WOW. It was actually my first time having a po' boy so I don't really have much to compare it to, but I thought it was fantastic. The tater tots were insanely good - very crispy and perfectly seasoned, the potato salad was like a 3.5/5, and the Mac and cheese was some of the best I've ever had. My wife got the ribs, and I'm honestly bummed that I didn't get those because they were out of this world. The barbecue sauce was great as well, they had both spicy and sweet variants. All in all, this will be on my must-eat list for Flagstaff, along with Diablo Burger. More...

Absolutely wonderful! I was a little nervous to go inside but I'm so happy I did. The food is amazing. I had the blackened catfish with Mac and cheese and sweet potato fries. Amazing. The Mac and cheese is bomb. So are the tots. I didn't order them but I ate my friends. Definitely recommend coming here. More...

You would never know how amazing this food is by the outside and the location. Don't pass it by. We were greeted by all staff and they help us through our selections. This is a small hole in the wall place at the end of a strip mall, but their flavor and food is anything but small. You walk in and order first and then you get a number to bring to whatever table you want to sit at and they'll bring your food to your table. There are roughly 12 tables in there, so getting a table can be tough depending on how busy they are. This is probably the best Cajun food Arizona has. I, along with my group, all grew up in Louisiana so most "Cajun" food outside of Louisiana just doesn't cut it for us. I ordered a 1/2 pint of shrimp and andouille gumbo with cornbread and 1/2 cup of jambalaya. I will say I am pretty picky with gumbo... their gumbo had pretty good taste and the sausage and shrimp was pretty good but half of that 1/2 pint was onions and celery and bell pepper! My boyfriend's gumbo was the same way. Not the top 10 gumbo I've had, but pretty good for gumbo in a state that's not Louisiana. The jambalaya was very "tomatoey", which I'm not used to. My friend ordered a blackened catfish and it was really good. We were all pleasantly surprised to find a place in Flagstaff that had decent Cajun food. Oh, and the staff were all great. They were very helpful and friendly! More...

Easily one of my favorite restaurants in flagstaff. Atmosphere is chill, waitstaff is on point and the food is immensely tasty. You can't go wrong. What a lucky find (thanks to all the Yelpers who gave excellent reviews)! The Cajun blackened catfish was deliciously seasoned and the cornbread and the red potato salad a perfect accompaniment. My hubby talked me effortlessly into trying their homemade bread pudding, which was unlike any other: crispy fried on the outside and melt in your mouth moist in the center. The young man at the counter was warm and friendly and very courteous. All in all Satchmo's was a delightful surprise. Unpretentious, welcoming, and best off all great food. What a delight to find greatness in unexpected places. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but once inside, you know it is the real deal. Cajun and Barbecue in a casual, family-friendly atmosphere. I have eaten food prepared by top New Orleans trained chefs, and Satchmo's can hold its own with the best of them. I decided on a gumbo appetizer followed by blackened grilled catfish fillet on rice with sides of cornbread and coleslaw. The gumbo had a perfect blend of rice, sausage, and shrimp, delicately spiced so it did not overwhelm the main course. The catfish was perfection and has set a new standard of what "blackened" should mean. It had a cajun dipping sauce on the side that added just a bit of savory spice, creating a more exciting and fuller palate. Cornbread was richer than usual-- a nice touch. And I wondered about the reddish coleslaw. Wisely, this was neither a mayo based nor German coleslaw but spicy vinegar slaw with a Cajun twist, Finished with a very original bread pudding that was a cross between a New England Bread pudding and the outside sweet crispiness of a Mexican bunuelo, cut into four small "cakes." Glad my wife and I shared this dessert, as it would have been too much for one. Service was quick, warm, and welcoming. Next time I will try one of the barbecue dishes. I have high expectations. Satchmo's is the friendliest restaurant I have ever visited, but more importantly, the food is AMAZING!Satchmo's specializes in Cajun, BBQ food and it was perfect. We were visiting with our pets up north and they loved our girls. They brought them treats, came out to give them pets and made us feel at home. Tons of shady places to sit on the patio with the fur babies and a fun and festive interior to relax for dinner. We ordered the Jumbalaya, Ribs and the nacho tots. The ribs were so tender and fell right off the bone. They have spicy and sweet BBQ sauce that you can add on top, which was finger licking good. I got the mac and cheese as well as the corn bread. The corn bread came with butter and bits of jalapeno mixed in. The nacho tots were crispy and the toppings were a plenty. Definitely worth a visit if you are up in Flag. We were on a tour through the USA and i yelped this place in our motel for the night. The reviews were good, so we tried it.What can I say, this is the first place in the states where we were able to actually taste the freshness of the food that was served. We ordered Ribs and Jambalaya with two sides each. The ribs were the best ones we have eaten so far and very juicy. I had never had Jambalaya before and was very satisfied with my choice. Sides were Tots, sweet potato fries, coleslaw and baked beans. Everything tasted delicious and like it had just been made, or fresh that day. Also the guys running the place are awesome. They are genuinely trying to make you happy through their food and are super friendly and helpful. We got to try the beer on tap, before we ordered which helped a whole lot.The place looks very nice and is decorated with instruments matching the awesome choice of music. Everything's feeling a bit Louisiana, especially when the staff sings along while cleaning the tables. In conclusion, this is the best place we have eaten at so far in our entire trip. Satchmo's I LOVE the atmosphere of your spot.  The Chalk board on the patio made it fun and easy to wait for our to go order.  I'd been told of your locale many moons ago by a valley friend.  Swore up and down you were the best.  And you're close.  What drags you down is that in our 6 to go orders you forgot my one thing of red beans and rice and corn bread.  That brings you down.  So we took our food back to the hotel off the main drag near downtown Flagstaff, would have thought the food might have cooled for the most part by the time we set down and ate everything over 30 minutes later.  But my brisket sandwich was completely delicious.  The Chili was amazing.  Everyone else completely was all about it.  The Sweet sauce was lovely and the spicy even better.  My biggest gripe here is your small menu.  You execute it fine, but if you make brisket and pulled pork sandwiches can you have plates for order also?Great Barbecue! I don't want to say that Satchmo's was amazing because we were hungry and tired for good food / soul food after driving for hours from Zion. It will be an understatement for magic provided by Satchmo's. It is a magical place because it does provide authentic soul food from Louisiana and also from Satchmo, himself. It was absolutely delicious!Tried - 1) Blackened Catfish fillet (2 sides: Smoked beans (AMAZING!) and Mac n Cheese) 2) Deep Fried Catfish Po'Boy Sammich (2 sides: smoked beans and BBQ chips)The flavor of the blackened fish was amazing and the smoked beans are to die for (waitress told me the beans are smoked for 8-10 hours) More...

Fantastic! We were in Flagstaff Arizona and saw great reviews on yelp and decided to try it out for ourselves and it did not disappoint. We got the shrimp Po boy and chicken Po boy along with dirty rice and gumbo and beans and potato salad.  Really a great meal. I suggest you try it. More...

My husband and I were driving to Page and took an early dinner break. We decided to split the Lil Mo combo, which includes a 1/2 rack of ribs, the choice of 2 (beef, chicken, or pork), 1/2 pint of jambalaya, and the choice of tots or sweet fries. We chose the beef and pork as well as the tots. We got both the tangy sweet bbq sauce and the spicy sauce. Both were good, but I liked the tangy sweet sauce a bit more. The ribs were fall of the bones good. The pork was were up to standards. The brisket, however, lacked flavor. The jambalaya was delicious. And the tots was some of the best I ever had. It was perfectly crunchy with cajun seasonings. Overall, we were happy with the meal. Brisket is usually my favorite so I was a little disappointed from that. However, there were some other great items. Glad we ended up getting the combo! More...

Pleasantly delighted! I haven't been to Satchmo's in years because I had a blah first experience. Tonight was outstanding! Great shrimp po'boy, delicious red beans and rice, ribs and jambalaya were fab. The remoulade is the perfect blend of sweet, spicy and smoky. Give them a try! More...

I called this play and told them right away that I was calling them because they were ranked high on Yelp.   They did not disappoint at all and they probably exceeded my expectations.  I have lived primarily in the south my entire life and have enjoyed some award winning BBQ in my time.  Satchmos is just as good as any BBQ that I've ever had.   Their brisket and pulled pork were absolutely perfect!   The bread pudding is the best I've ever had.   If you're in flagstaff then Satchmos is a can't beat!!! Seriously best experience I've ever had in a restaurant! The moment I walked in there was so much positive energy I felt so welcomed, they made me feel like family. The guy at the front had me dying in laughter and the food was amazing. I ordered a to go order but I would sit down next time just to enjoy spending time with the great staff! This is definitely a flagstaff hidden treasure everyone needs to experience! Thank you satchmos! More...

Had the half rack with smoked beans and Mac and cheese. Quite tasty!  Definite Cajun spices in everything. I liked the sweet sauce better than the spicy. Prices were fair for the food and atmosphere. No real servers as you order then sit down. Just one person to deliver your food to your table. I would definitely recommend this place! More...

I was looking forward to this dinner and Satchmo's did not disappoint, had a hard time deciding on my first dish but I am a pulled pork fanatic so i went with my first love. I was worried I wasn't going to be impressed. A $16 lunch is a bit rich for me. But then I remembered how much I paid for barbeque in Austin and Nashville. Well, this is the closest you're going to get in Flagstaff. It's worth a double digit check. These tater tots are the best I've eaten in my entire life. Crispy on the outside, soft and not soggy on the inside. Very well seasoned. More...

Resting in a strip mall, is this gem.  The outdoor patio is small but nice.  Had the pulled pork sand, not large but the quality is there, both mild and the spicy sauces have a kick to them, the combo I had was with bbq flavored tater tots fantastic golden brown packed with flavor, and the super smoky beans were addictive.  Yeah you wait for your food, but it's worth your time. Amazing food!! Found this place online, and then asked a local if it was any good. And she said it was local favorite.Very relaxed atmosphere. Food was great! Wife got the brisket, and I got the Jambalaya. Brisket was super tender, bbq sauce was very good. One of the best she's ever had. She described it as tender as butter.Jambalaya was flavorful and rich, not to spicy. Dirty rice was very good. Tastes just like dirty rice I've had in the south. But easily the best thing was the bread pudding. It has a good cinnamon flavor, and very moist. All in all 10 out of 10. Would definitely come back here!!And I would recommend this to anyone who wanted good but fast food. More...

Without an on-line review this place would have been missed by an out-of-towner. It looks like a hole in the wall, but their good food & service live up to their reputation.  We ordered a combo platter and shared it among 2 hearty eaters with a good amount of leftovers. I would recommend the pulled pork, brisket & ribs! All of the meat was tasty and well-season without excessive salt or fat. I really liked their Jambalaya, more than the dirty rice. I am seldom motivated to write reviews, good or bad. As in, usually less than one a year. But this was hands down one of the top few meals -- cheap or fancy, any cuisine -- that I've had in years. It's an absolute gem. Amazing dishes included--Blackened catfish on jambalaya: succulent, fresh, perfectly spiced fish on moist, fragrant rice pilaf spiked with just the right amount of sausage and other goodies. Half rack of ribs: falling off the bone, just done enough, and great spice rub makes the sauces unnecessary, but they are amazing anyway (especially the sweeter one). Cornbread: absolutely the best I've ever had. Moist yet crusty, with flakes of smoky Santa Fe chiles (I think). Amazing even without the butter and honey. Over the top with it. Coleslaw: it should be called "dirty" coleslaw or something. Vinegar-based, light and a little spicy, with what seemed to be a few pickled chiles mixed in. Great side to cut the grease of the hot dishes. Beer selection: probably the most interesting selection of 8 or so craft beers (most on draft) I've seen in a food-focused operation of this scale. Heavy on the darker beers, which is to my taste, but some refreshing options too. Not as impressed (yet perfectly serviceable, and didn't dent the experience)--Dirty rice: I LOVE dirty rice, but I happen to like it fiercely spicy and salty; this was neither. Red beans and rice: honesty quite good for what it is, but not that special, and unfortunately just a little bit spiced which ruined it as a kids' meal.If you, or your kids, can't take any level of spice, this may not be for you. Otherwise, definitely plan your day on I-40 around it -- or detour a couple hours if you got 'em. You won't be disappointed. More...

Cajun food in this little place was delicious! My only regret was not being able to stay long enough to see some live music. My catfish was  blackened to perfection. The jambalaya is as delicious as the corn bread. The cole slaw was good, but I would have preferred something less spicy to contrast against the spice on the rest of my plate. Would have been a great side to a BBQ sandwich though. Will stop here anytime I'm in Flagstaff. More...

Went to Satchmo's a few weeks back on a whim and the yelp of yelpers. This place did not disappoint. Parking was good, we got a place right up front. The cashier was awesome and gave us good recommendations. He was friendly and made the experience much nicer than most places where you order first. The beer selection was good, although I anticipated it would be bigger since Flagstaff has so many great microbreweries. All the BBQ and the fish were great! Super flavorful. I'm also a connoisseur of potatoes and their seasoning for their tots was awesome! I would eat them all day if I could. The only thing that anyone in my group had to complain about was the gumbo. I personally did not have the gumbo, so I can only write what I was told...which was that the rice should have been put separate from the gumbo because it just gets stuck down at the bottom. Also, apparently, the flavor wasn't as good as they were hoping for. That being said, this is coming from someone who grew up on homemade gumbo, which has all types of seafood. So, I think the expectations were a little unrealistic for the price they charge and for a small business. More...

Possibly the best smoked ribs I ever had. I got the 1/2 rack and couldn't finish them. Well I could have, but wanted to avoid the food como that comes on when you over do it. Guess I'll have a rib sandwich when I get home. They didn't need BBQ sauce, but since they make their own (1 spicy, 1 sweet), I had some on the side and came away thinking their sauce will make someone else's inferior ribs taste better. For my sides, I tried the baked beans (incredible) and the cole slaw (never had vinegar based slaw) which was fine, but I've had better. Good local beer selection and plenty of options there. Very friendly wait staff. I'm going back the next time I'm in Flagstaff. More...
