We had a lovely dinner, great atmosphere, attentive wait staff. We ordered most of the menu for a big group and it was all very good but the chicken was the best chicken dish I’ve ever had. Would highly recommend.

Decadent, exquisite, delicious, amazing, bursting with flavor, unique, scrumptious. It's hard to even begin to describe how marvelous this place is. We've been here a few times and everything we've ordered has exceeded our expectations! Rodina is perfect for a date night but also great for a special occasion, last night was our anniversary and Rodina was the perfect place to celebrate! Rodina is family style restaurant and for us, we like to try many things so we ordered a few small dishes, a few sides and a few desserts. After ordering we were greeted with a "gift from the kitchen" which was a beet mash with rye crustinis - the flavors blended incredibly well and was so vibrant in color. Then our Green salad arrived which was mixed greens, cucumbers, walnuts and bagna cáuda - tangy and perfectly mixed with just the right portions for each bite to be just as delicious as the last. Brought to our table next we're susisito (spelling isn't my forte) peppers that were cooked just enough to be soft topped with something crunchy and were very yummy, we're not even pepper people and we ate every last one! Potato Pancake and Braised Greens we're up next, the potatoes pancake was perfectly sautéed with just the slightest bit of crunch but the was mixed together well enough that it didn't fall apart while eating it. It was topped with thinly sliced peaches, pickled mustard seeds, homemade sour cream and some micro greens. I'm salivating just thinking about it! It's beautiful and delicious! The braised greens are an absolute must with anything you order, same mixed greens as the salad but sautéed to be soft and cooked in double cream.  Last but not least... dessert! We ordered the the bread pudding and some fancy puffs (I forgot the name) with peach preserves. Both were amazing. Truthfully I don't think there's anything I could order here and not walk away wanting to come back. Through the entire meal we both just kept saying "Wow!" "Mmmm, Yum!" and "Why is this SO good?!" The atmosphere is fun and rustic and the people are fantastic. They work together as a whole team to have a very seamless system. This is a choice that certainly won't disappoint. We enjoyed the spacious, comfortable atmosphere coupled with simple, family style dining. The food was simple yet refined with touches of fresh micro greens, delicate herbs and florals. Went for brunch and was very satisfied with the service and food.  The wait staff knew every item on the menu and were able to clearly articulate how each item was prepared and sourced. The decor is minimalist with flagstone flooring and plain chairs and tables because what is really on display here is the food.  All menu items are locally sourced and humanely raised.I started with madelines which were freshly baked to order.  They were fluffy and very tasty.  There were 6 in the order.  I also ordered eggs, sausage and potatoes for a main with a side of pancakes and grits.  The eggs and potatoes were plainly prepared but very tasty and fresh.  I usually season my food,  but did not even think about it this time.  The sausage was also very nice and not too spicy.  The pancakes came with fresh whipped cream and a small jar of maple syrup.  There were two and they were light and extremely good.  The grits were fresh and buttery with a hint of salt.The prices are above what you would normally pay, but in my opinion are justified for the quality of food items.  I recommend ordering several dishes to share with your partner or a group.  Splitting up the bill should help keep the per person cost down.  Rodina is a must try place in Cedar Rapids. Had an excellent dinner recently at Rodina. The space is beautifully decorated and the food is excellent. My friend and I hung out at the bar, and their bartenders provided an excellent friendly service. Their cocktail menu looked inventive although we did not get to try too many drinks on that occasion. We had the meatball, potato pancake and pork dinner to share, and it was all pretty delicious. Wold recommend for a special occasion, or a good night out around the Czech Village or Newbo. More...

Service was great. Food was great! We had potatoe pancake with egg, and roasted duck with egg. Great flavor and very well presented. I would always like bigger portions, but I eat a lot. The menu was a little confusing, but staff was eager to help answer questions. Our main complaint was that the restaurant literally smelled wet and musty when we entered. This was our first visit, but we will be back. Love that they support local to make their menu. Food was not only plated beautifully, but the taste was amazing — for everything we ordered. They space out the timing of the dishes to come out (unique but it also worked). All of the staff was very hospitable. We passed by Cedar Rapids for a roadtrip, as we stroll along the czech village, we found Rodina and had a great dinner here. Service was friendly and timely. The ambience of the restaurant was hip and cute! Most importantly, the food was very delicious. We had toast mushroom and pan seared pork, though seemingly small portion for two people at first, we turned out to be very full and satisfied by the end of the meal. the chicken and pork large plates were both AMAZING! I cant pick a favorite and chicken usually bores me. The other small plates were also great. The sauce for the mussels was very tasty with the bread and butter to dip in. Delicious cocktails and a great wine list as well. our server, Reagan (sp?) was great. Very friendly and attentive. It was full when we walked in, 5 1/2 of us, but we were able to get the room by the door after we waited with a drink at the bar. The room has a fireplace and was very intimate with the ability to carry on a conversation. I definately recommend a reservation though, we just got lucky. Congrats to the owners! Okay, I get the hype. We went there with four others for a Saturday evening dinner. Outstanding. The menu isn't huge, but the flavors are. We shared the large plate pork and chicken. While both were great, the chicken was stupid good. Juicy, juicy, juicy. We shared several small plates, but I've got to give a special shout out to the mussels. Best I've had in a very long. I'm 60 years old and my best guess these are the best mussels I've had in at least 60 years.The sauce they serve it with is awesome. We kept it around for the whole meal as it's a great dipping sauce for just about everything else we ate. The ambiance they've created is perfect. We'll be back for sure. In case you haven't heard, Rodina means "family" in Czech. And that's exactly what you'll get when you go there - a family experience. First, since they're a restaurant, I have to rave about the food. The country ham and eggs was to die for. Do yourself a favor and try it. The cabbage salad was also delicious. On to the potato pancake: also delicious. The half roasted chicken with sweet potatoes was the best meal I've had in a while - I don't know how they did it! The chicken was cooked to perfection. And last, but far from least, madeleines...oh. my. gosh. I can't stop thinking about them.The service. Simply put: wonderful. Maria was our server and boy was she a good one! Explained everything thoroughly, and was super attentive. The bartender was also fantastic - explaining everyone's drinks to them in detail and answering questions.The atmosphere. WOW. Such a cool place. The family dinner table is just such an amazing touch. It felt like we were the only people there!! 14 years ago I decided to leave the culinary program after only one year at Kirkwood. What I envisioned for my culinary future was nowhere to be found within Cedar Rapids and at the time, my desire to move to a major metropolis and fight my way to the top of the culinary food chain was just not something I was prepared for. What I discovered just last night however, after an intimate and scrumptious meal with new friends and impeccable service, is that I have been waiting for Rodina. Good food is not intended to be shoveled in your mouth as you talk about work or the weather - it should be an immersive experience. At Rodina, everything from the tiles on the floors to the rustic exposed beams, to the roasted chicken that can be traced back to the farm that it was raised on, is so exquisitely executed that you can't help but feel that you are in your Grammy's kitchen enjoying Sunday dinner with your family. Last night I sopped up au jus with tender pieces of the most incredible whole roasted chicken, I was dazzled by potato pancakes that had the thinnest slices of sweet, crispy apple on top and I was completely blown away by a dish that simply goes by the name 'Ham and Eggs'.For me and my sweet tooth however, the Madeleines were a show stopper. These tiny pastries that cross back and forth between a soft cookie and a tiny cake, are baked to order and come out piping hot and golden brown. They are made with so few ingredients you could count them on one hand. I had 1 1/2 with my meal.... and got an entire order to go.... but they never made it out the door. So I think its fair to say that I feel strongly about this place called Rodina. I could keep going on about how they have a hyper-local focus and farm to table philosophy and seasonal menu, and awesome seating and.....
