Mmm mm Raaaamennn!First off, this is just an adorable place. But what makes it so sweet is the lady who works there (sorry I didn't catch her name). She is unbelievably sweet and really made the experience. The inside has a clean aesthetic and there are works of art lining the walls. I love the little chopsticks holders hehe. Tonkotsu Ramen- I loved the pork belly in this. The broth was rich and tasty. I would like it to have been piping hot but it was very delicious. Also passed the salty test- I didn't wake up in the middle of the night gasping for water which was good. Ask for the ground chili pepper to add for a nice kick. Will go for extra pork belly next time for sure. And thanks for the amazing service. Really really sweet lady! More...

The salmon bowl was pretty good and my boyfriend's beef bowl was nice too. The service is awesome and the lady that works there was so polite. Japanese service courtesy doesn't ask for tips but we still left it because we think it's what we should do.. so it'd be very helpful if someone let me know if it's actually needed. They took down all the decor when we were there so the space feel very under-decorated. Also, the portion size is a little too small for us. More...

For some reason when I read the reviews I always thought Resobox was primarily an art gallery, but it's actually a small restaurant with limited seating. The walls display rotating art and change from time to time. You'll have to check their website to see what's on. Also, it seems like they have some workshops, sake tasting, cultural learning experiences. Now, onto the food -- VERY TASTY! But such tiny portions. Was really hoping to see more dessert selections. Resobox still in business!Just because there is construction outside doesn't mean they aren't serving up tasty delights. For my first visit I noted that space is limited. Not sure if it's from all the construction, or that's their normal dining space. Nevertheless I stopped in for my typical late lunch, and was surprised with how empty it was. I was greeted with a warm welcome from the fella upfront and given a menu to glance at, as they serve in or cater to the togo crowd. Decided I was going to stay and sit at their side table top with stools, but the kind host suggested that he had a small table of two that was available and more comfortable.'Follow the greeter', glanced at menu one last time and with no surprise, my host is now the server and cashier. Wondered if that's how it always is, even during prime time.  Nevertheless I ordered what I thought would be a good hot lunch to warm me up.It seemed like within minutes/short period of time my order way ready and looking good. It tasted good too!It was a hearty size for the price and was able to easily save half for a second lunch next day...As I needed to save some room to try their Matcha Green Tea w/Red Bean Cheesecake that caught my eye! Everyone knows I'm the Cheesecake connoisseur, from the many various versions I have made year after year for family parties and more. Have to say it was smaller than what I would have expected. :/ Wondering if it is because I decided to take it togo?!? Nevertheless the taste was okay, but nothing crazy amazing that would bring me in just for it. It had a dryer texture then expected. I was hoping that the red bean part would be incorporated within it, but it accompanies it to the side. Food for thought on this bakers side of things...just might want to whip a version up myself that would be creamier and still retain a bolder Matcha flavor. In the end of the whole experience I would say what they served was quality overall and would recommend to fellow coworkers and others in the neighborhood. This a place to go to for solid authentic Japanese comfort food. The menu is slim but flavorful. The ramen and rice bowls are as authentic as they come and there is zero thrill in this venue. The food is prepared in the back and venue is simple. Prices are beyond reasonable and the service is reliable.  My only complaint here is that there's not always background music so its sometimes way too quiet inside and you can hear every table's private conversation. I would have never known of this place without the recommendation of a friend. Honestly even as I walked by, this almost seemed like a toy store rather than a food shop (the small handmade dolls hung all around made it very deceiving). But when I realized that it was part of the store decorations, I later thought that it made the store pretty cool and trendy. Resobox itself is a very small, hip Japanese place serving udon, ramen, rice bowls among other things. I've noticed that it isn't super crowded (it wouldn't even have space to deal with a huge crowd), but there are consistently customers coming in and leaving without the store being too empty or crowded. With the shop being on the smaller end, I found service to be quick. They were ready to take your order and serve you.I personally did find the serving sizes a bit on the smaller end, but for the ambience, I found it to be just the right place to just enjoy good hot soup and converse with friends. I really love the concept of Resobox as a small Japanese cultural center, art gallery and cafe. When I stopped in, they had an amigurumi (knitted doll) display, with cute characters and animal of all sorts hanging from the walls. The ramen was pretty good - probably one of my better experiences in NYC actually. I had the miso ramen. The broth wasn't super heavy, which I liked, and the pork on it was surprisingly very good. It was rich but didn't have a thick slab of fat, and it tasted and looked like they had just charred it right before putting it in. The noodles were wavy and looked almost handmade (they could've been, but probably somewhere else since it's a small kitchen). A quick search brought us to Resobox and we immediately felt good about our choice. The space doesn't have the traditional restaurant feel because it's a converted space with temporary walls. I was able to attend an intimate Sake tasting hosted by Resobox and Tokyo's Toshimaya sake brewery on the evening of 3/16.  (Thanks Christina P and Yelp for getting me in!)  Resobox is a small venue right off the Queensboro Plaza subway station (literally half a block).  The cafe was closed but the event was held in the same room as the World Amigurumi Exhibition.  Imagine sipping sake and mingling under strings of cute crochet toys from all around the world!  They're for sale with the larger than life size bubble tea ($90) and Apple Watch ($45).  I like how they indicate on the price tags whether or not the toy is baby safe.  Resobox is also a cultural center and they regularly host cooking classes and special events.Their 3/16 event kicked off with Kikizake, a fun blind tasting game.  We sampled 4 different sakes, labeled A B C and D and tried to match them to their description and ideal food partner.  They all had a light and pleasant aroma but with unique tastes.  Then Rin from Toshimaya presented the sake to us one by one and with Chef Kita, we drank more sake and paired each one up with food (scallop, duck breast, tuna, and bamboo shoots)!  I love how they paired a sweet and light sake with the scallop carpaccio.  The sake and braised duck breast pairing enhanced the duck flavor.  The pairing with the bamboo shoots and seaweed gave it a very nice umami and miso-soup flavor.  The tuna was flavorful but a little too spicy for me. Rin also gave us a brief history of Toshimaya, introduced us to their baby dragon mascot: Rita-chan, who is featured on every RITA bottle, and hosted a trivia game.  Brian, a fellow yelper, won the most points from the Kikizake and trivia games (woooot congrats!) and is now 1 of the 2 proud owners in the USA with a Toshimaya apron!  We additionally received a sake shot glass for uploading a photo on Instagram.  There was plenty of sake to go around and end the night.  Everyone from Toshimaya and Resobox was very sweet and hospitable.  I felt like I was back in Japan! :')----The four sake from the event:-- Junmai Shu "RITA" Pure Green -- paired with any type of food, usually side dishes-- Junmai Dai Ginjyou "RITA" -- my favorite (sweet and light, apple flavor), paired with fish-- Junmai Dai Ginjyou "DAI-RITA" -- highest grade of sake (dry aftertaste)-- Okunokami -- recommended as an aperetif to be drank before or after a meal More...
