What a GEM!  Great happy hour with outstanding little known wines!  Then the added special in addition to the decor of clean and contemporary but inviting, is their menu!  Wow oh wow!  Had smoked blue fish that was out of this world! A touch of smoke and MeyerLemon. Not at all fishy!  The flatbread is made on premises and is better than anything I've tasted In Europe! Kind and informed staff!  We made reservations for the Friday after Thanksgiving if that tells you something! More...

I am surprised that this place isn't more busy! Having tried most of Portsmouth's offerings, Raleigh wine bar stands out. It has an original and inventive menu that is not seen around town. We ordered the smoked fish dip, jumbo stuffed dates, rock crab toast, farm tomatoes, tuna tartare and the lobster with a couple cocktails and a bottle wine. Each dish was unique with high quality ingredients. Our favorite dishes were the rock crab and the lobster served with avocado squash. Portions were appropriately sized for the price point. The service is great, something that restaurants in Portsmouth lack. The price point is not too bad given the quality. Next time you head to the Prescott Park area, skip Cure, Domo, Mambo, and Armando's and give this place a try. We will be back! More...

I met a friend here at 5:45pm, just prior to an event at Prescott Park, so we could catch a bite to eat pre-show.  We were seated at a lovely high-top table and while there were really only other guests at the bar at the tie, it felt comfortable.  We made it in time to choose from their happy hour menu, which ends at 6pm, and were thankful to see the items were on their standard menu but they had reduced pricing for the specials.  We asked for recommendations and in large part due to those, we ordered a caramelized onion dip with bread, rock crab toast and a roasted vegetarian special.  We loved all three. I also had a glass of light white wine and my friend gad rose; again, both were very tasty. I really enjoyed how our waiter was ver knowledgeable and helpful without being overbearing; it's a balance that is very welcome in a host/server.All in all, our first experience at the restaurant was lovely - and the only thing that was a distraction (some hands guests at the bar) is something the staff could not control. I would definitely go back. More...

We went to Raleigh for Mother's Day brunch. They were extremely accommodating for our large party. Several guests have gluten allergies and they provided gluten free bread even though it is not on the normal menu. All the moms received roses, which was so nice. The food was great and our server was very attentive and nice. I would highly recommend. More...

I was excited to try this spot when my wine-loving mom was in town, and we weren't let down! We came after having dinner nearby on Friday of Mother's Day weekend (so we didn't have a chance to try any food here). Great wine selection but also a good number of cocktails and some beer options, which my husband was thankful for. The staff was great and friendly and I really liked the style inside. Already planning a girls night to come back! More...

Although I don't live in town anymore, I come home for the holidays to visit, and Raleigh is a great spot for interesting, unique food and awesome service. I went on a recent trip home twice! Once for dinner, where we got the seared fois gras (amazing) and the truffle risotto with rush creek reserve cheese. I can honestly say there are not as many spots in Portsmouth with creative and as well executed dishes. If you are into food, COME HERE! I went for brunch the next day and they were squeezing fresh oranges for our mimosas :) I also got the braised lamb with sunny side egg and a light gravy which was something I've never had for breakfast before but would like to eat it everyday moving forward. Long story short, visit this spot!! More...

Definitely one of the best restaurants in Portsmouth. The food is always amazing (the menu changes often so you always have new things to try). The menu is different that most of what Portsmouth offers, which is great, if you're like me and have lived here a while and have tried most of the restaurants in town. The wine list is superb with a lot of natural wines. Try the Austrian wine flight. So good. This place usually has tables open but a reservation is always good if you want to make sure you have a table, especially on the weekends. You can make reservations on their website or over the phone. They have happy hour every day from 4pm to 6pm, even on Saturdays and Sundays. Brunch on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 10:30am till 3pm More...

This was a great find! The wine was excellent, the food was even better! The food is made with local ingredients, so it was fresh. We had the poached egg, which was a nice treat. Then the beet and tuna salad got rave reviews from my wife. I had the crispy bluefish, was like a fish stew. SO GOOD! One of our favorite restaurants now. Go now!Went a 2nd time,,,awesome again! You gotta go! More...

We are locals and have eaten at all the food establishments in town. Portsmouth has many restaurants, many are good, none are great. Raleigh is as close to "great" as you will come in Portsmouth. The menu changes with regularity and everything is delicious. The food is expertly prepared, and service is professional and friendly. The waitstaff is not made up of college kids and this makes a difference. The restaurant itself has a modern urban look to it and it is situated in a picturesque part of town. You can sit at the counter and look at the bridge while sipping one of their great wines. I would highly recommend Raleigh! More...

Absolutely delicious!  The menu had some interesting flavor combinations.  We really enjoyed the food, atmosphere & the staff were all friendly & prompt. As a vegetarian, I had plenty of options to choose from that were unusual.  Which is great.  A lot of restaurants throw a veggie burger on the menu and call it a day.  Not here!  Lots of fresh ingredients & choices. There is parking available near by (paid at a meter) & the prices for the food were reasonable.Highly recommend! Wonderful surprise. Rainy Saturday night with no reservations, called and was welcomed in. Service was exceptional, food was delightful. My husband and I shared one pick from each course (perfect amount). The squid was interesting, unique, and sooo good.  We truly loved each dish. Thankful for a wonderful evening! More...

My husband and I were passing through and stopped at this gem of a restaurant which was recommended by friends. I'm a vegetarian and my husband enjoys good food and wine. The owner suggested a perfect wine pairing for our meal. We had oysters, kampachi and poached egg, and smoked carrots. Our meal was delicious and we enjoyed the ambiance and friendly service. Highly recommend for food and wine lovers. More...

My husband and I love our evening visits at Raleigh. We tend to share a few small plates and enjoy the clean lines of the decor and attention to dining details which all contribute to this excellent experience. Our latest visit included a new favorite of mine- the Napa cabbage grilled wedge and a Rose flight tasting. With a surprisingly well curated tap list, all will find a libation to their liking. Most nights we are not in need of a reservation, which makes it the perfect place to try out, your next stroll about town.. Most memorable of all our visit always includes a friendly welcome from Frieda and staff.  The inviting atmosphere and delicious, creative dishes make this a top choice in downtown Portsmouth. Finally got around to going here for dinner. Went with another couple--ordered the lobster pastry; about 3 rounds of bread, halibut entree, crab with pasta, asparagus dish, and green salad. All were very good, well timed, and reasonable for the size, quality, and ambiance of the place. Dessert was a nice, light semifreddo (think frozen whipped cream) with a simple chocolate cake and fresh strawberries, as well as a rhubarb tart--made to order, courtesy of the chef. We sat outside, which is nice, though inside is also attractive. Our server was excellent--attentive, knowledgeable about the wine (they have a well-curated, if small, list), and friendly. After dinner, we were able to buy a couple bottles of the wine we enjoyed with dinner, as well as a La Boite spice mix (VERY hard to find outside of NYC), and some other delectables. Like some of the other reviewers, we are local and will likely going back soon -- also new is they're open for lunch some. More...

Our new favorite! Five stars on all counts.  We had to make changes to our reservation twice, and rather than be outwardly annoyed, they were nice as could be about it.  We were there during a shift change and so got to experience two different servers, and both were excellent - friendly, fast, and the perfect amount of attentive.  And then there was the food - entrees are small portions of genius combinations, the perfect amount of food if you share an app beforehand.  Some standouts were the cheese board with marmalade and the white anchovy tampenade and toast.  It was a really excellent experience - we'll definitely be back! I had heard about this place and finally decided to check it out for a couple glasses of wine before dinner. They have a great selection of by-the-glass wines (a little more unique than most). My wife and I also shared the anchovy toast, which was great. This is a cool spot that could use a little more publicity! I think their proximity to the park should help get foot traffic this summer More...

This review is for the market only, not the Wine BarAfter dinner we were looking for a place to get a bottle of wine and stumbled upon Raleigh.  The selection was great and we ended up getting a bottle of sparkling wine and some ice cream. The only disappointment was the employee was not super helpful and knew little about the wines were were interested in buying.  There was some confusion as to whether the wine we wanted was dry or not.  We got it anyway and were very happy with our choice. We LOVE this place. We've been there about 4 times since they opened and every time the food and service has been outstanding! The menu changes frequently so although I may want to repeat my last choices, I get to try some new ones. We have never been disappointed in anything and as another reviewer mentioned, the pumpkins croquette was one of our favorites as well as the lamb. You leave feeling so satisfied but not over-fed. Wanted to mention three more positives - it's small so not too loud, they take reservations and the owner Nimi is always there overseeing customer experience. Definitely our new favorite place!! This place is really cool. There is a room with tables and benches that is attached to another room with a small market. The market has a small, but quality, selection of wines, some beers, and Italian grocery items. The bar area is tastefully decorated, modern, and clean. We got a wine called Frick. It was a red, medium bodied, super delicious. A little on the pricier side but really great wine. We also shared the cheese/charcuterie plate. This came with mostarda and an apple spread, three types of cheeses, a pate of sorts, and a heap of prosciutto. There were a few pieces of crusty bread that came with it. My only complaint is that the bread to spreads ratio was a little off. I could have used more bread because that mostarda was amaaazing. Our waiter was awesome - super friendly and had great recommendations. No doubt I'll be back. More...

Awesome new spot in Portsmouth! The seasonal food menu is amazing. Especially loved the pumpkin croquette over pork ragu, and the truffle risotto. The chocolate-tofu mousse was to die for! They have a great selection of wine as well as beer. The market section has similar wine/beer that you can purchase to take home, as well as other specialty foods. Can't wait to come back! More...

We were so excited to hear a wine bar opened in Portsmouth! We tried Raleigh last night and it was as amazing as we'd hoped! The wine was good and food was excellent (the risotto was delicious!) The service was fantastic- attentive but not hovering. It's a very unique, special place and we'll definitely return! More...

This new spot is amazing! I had such a fun night there last weekend with my girlfriends. Not only does the ambience make you want to stay and relax for hours, but the food and wine is the best I've ever had at a wine bar. We went crazy ordering all the different dishes on the menu and begged each other to share! I wish I could hire the cook as my private chef. The food was so seasonal and phenomenal.I must say, the owners know how to curate a good wine selection- my Pinot Noir was so delicious I couldn't resist buying a bottle in their cute market. I finished it immediately the next night!  I was also able to pick up some mouth watering sauces at the market that I've been enjoying cooking with all week! Can't wait to check out Raleigh again.
