I liked that their workouts were geared toward people of all skill levels -- previously, I had been going to Club Pilates in PB but didn't like how only the most difficult classes were available in the evenings during after-work hours. Pilates of La Jolla is great because each workout is tailored to the group in attendance each class! More...

I am enjoying the Pilates classes!! It is super addicting and the results are amazing.  I like Jake and Nicole. Jake is very hands on and funny. He does chat a lot during class but I love it...it takes my mind away from the tough workout. More...

I have been a member of Pilates United in La Jolla for over four years now, best pilates studio in town by far.  The group classes are awesome - good class schedule times, every trainer has something unique to offer, and limited class sizes.  This is a nice family owned and operated business, not some sterile franchised gym.  The owners Jake and Moji are onsite daily teaching.  Their trainers are all super friendly, knowledgeable and love what they do.  Regardless if you are trying pilates for the first time or have been doing it for years, you are young or "mature", male or female - this studio makes it fun, entertaining and a great workout.  Oh yeah, and they make my butt look good, lol. Very interesting experience.Their machines are older then club or pilates room and class environment is very different.Jake is very nice and knows all his students. The only down side is the teacher and the students sometimes chat a bit too much in class and jake is usually late for the mission hill studio classes. More...

This was my first Pilates class ever and I loved it!  I went to the La Jolla studio and Jake was the instructor.  The class size is small, so you get some personal attention, which is great when you are new.  I'm a runner and swimmer but I don't do well in the gym.  Pilates seems like a great way to tone and strengthen for people who hate the gym.  Today my gluts and abs are so sore - I love it!  I will definitely be getting the unlimited monthly membership! Jake and his instructors conduct excellent group reformer pilates classes.  The classes are well taught and as a fitness obsessed physician I find the instructors very knowledgeable.  Studio has 8 reformer machines and there are usually 4-6 people in each class, so preregistration is not necessary. I've taken several classes at five different reformer pilates studios, and this was my second favorite. The workouts were intense enough to make you sweat and burn, and the instructors keep you stimulated by switching things up a bit each time. One of the pluses here is that the classes tend to be extra small here (as few as two or three people sometimes and not more than 8, as is common with classes where the large reformer machines are used) so you get great attention from the instructors. Perhaps this is because the studio is tucked away behind Prepkitchen, and is almost impossible to find! More...

I spent all of August in La Jolla Village this summer, and decided I would do some Pilates. So I decided I would go with Pilates United for 2 reasons: First of all, their prices were the best on the unlimited program, and secondly I just felt this really good vibe in the Studio compared to all the others. This was my first time doing pilates, I hadn't exercised for many years, and I decided I would go to a group class every single day for the whole month. Let's start with the results: they were great! I felt more toned and strengthened and I really did see a big difference as far as the exercises I could perform by the end of the month. As far as the teaching is concerned: Group classes in the morning were all done from Jake, and he was NEVER late (as some other reviewers stated). Group classes in the evenings and during weekends were performed by other instructors who did some sort of rotation (plus it was August so some were on holidays). Anyway what I can definitely say is that there are instructors in this studio that will work for EVERYONE: You need a higher -Olympic training- pace with lots and lots of explaining: go for Ali! You will literally melt down! The same with Laurisa but she is a bit more "quite" and relaxed a person and will really help you learn the technique for the exercises. I was very lucky to have her on my day 1 and for many more lessons after that! Jake has his own style: I am guessing you either love it or hate it. I loved it!! His lesson was high paced with a touch of "stand-up comedy", which really made my day! I don't see the reason if I am sweating as hell that I can't have fun at the same time! I also had Christina for 2-3 lessons: she was awesome as well! I had one more instructor who recently moved back to the area from Hawaii (sorry I can't remember the name): she was very nice and brought a totally different "air" to the lesson, emphasizing on some serious stretching. There were more instructors I saw doing some private lessons and you can literally see people (men and women) of ALL ages coming to this studio for a workout and everybody seems very happy! So overall: I was very satisfied with this studio, I will be returning to Greece with the best of memories, and hope that someday I will be back in La Jolla and in one of their lessons!! Thanks to everyone in Pilates United! PS: about that thing that Jake doesn't answer his phone messages/texts, etc. I totally see were this is coming from as he is quite an alternative instructor, not a "high-tech" fan if you know what I mean.... He probably even doesn't read his yelp reviews. LOL! I also believe he prefers one-on-one talking, so if you have the time, just drop by, and I am pretty sure you will change your mind!! Have fun!! Never had so much fun while working out!I was intimidated by reformers and Jake not only made me feel comfortable and taught me the ropes, but also gave me great workouts. Have been going there for about  a year now, love the group classes and the privates are really worth it too. Totally toning and reshaping my body.Love the La Jolla studio  - it's full of natural light, fresh ocean air, and tons of street parking! More...

I was a member here for a year and really loved it. The instructors were great and the class atmosphere was always enjoyable.  The classes have a max of eight and the instructors were always willing to customize your workout to help you with whatever areas you wanted to target or make sure that your workout was appropriate for your ability.  The only reason I left was because I got a new job and couldn't make it over. I'd highly recommend to all. More...
