Penn’s Canine Training

Mike exceeded all my expectations as a trainer. Incredibly knowledgeable, provides bespoke methods and solutions, always available to answer questions by phone/text in between training sessions (even now that my dog and I have graduated! ), and dogs love him. His training is worth every dollar because he WILL give you a dog that you can (and will want to) take with you everyplace you go where dogs are welcome. Mike Penn patiently and reliably helped us fulfill my dream of certifying our Goldendoodle for therapy work. Because of Mike’s training, Murphy has comforted and encouraged those who need it most for the last five years! We learned so much from Mike; the behavior training techniques he taught us have allowed us to incorporate our dogs into many aspects of our life, from traveling to being featured live on stage in our church’s Christmas program! My two labs and I have worked with Michael for over 6 years. He is very knowledgeable about service and therapy dogs. To do this type of work, the dog's obedience must be top priority. Michael uses many techniques for dog obedience. He is consistent, active, attentive, and positive while working with the dogs. My dogs are totally attentive to Michael and trust him completely. He pays attention to detail and picks up on the smallest of things. Paying this close attention while in training saves a lot of time on corrective measures. Over the years we have been in malls, stores, dog parks, and schools. Michael is approached constantly from dog owners to get advice. He is quick to give educated responses to questions and encourages people that most problems that owners are having with their dogs can be corrected. Lastly, Michael will give you his full attention while you are training. I still continue to learn from him and my dogs still are learning to do amazing things. So much to say!As a lifetime dog owner, with my first (childhood) dog so smart she ‘trained herself’, I grew up not knowing there was such a thing as TRAINING your dog! That is... until I got MY first dog. All the bad habits I’ve lived with were, you guessed it, MY fault for not knowing that I could help my various dogs over the years change bad behavior!Then Mike came along. He almost instantly had my Great Dog paying attention to what I asked for on a walk, and by phone walked me through teaching my 3 month old Shiz Tzu that indeed sitting when I stop during a walk, was doable at that young age. (Now, age 3, my Shiz tzu still sits when I lag a bit on a walk while waiting for a grand child to catch up...so mannerly!)I’ve told many many people that ‘Mike can teach ANY dog, ANY thing.’ Friends and strangers marvel at my stories of seeing Mike’s German Shepherd laying next to MY unruly Great Dane DURING Christmas Eve dinner, and IN THE ROOM where we are eating! It had never happened before! We alway banned that lanky table-top-eating giant from the dinner room!!And all you have to do to be a believer is see Mike’s dog Nova in action... stopping mid stride at Mike’s command while going after a tennis ball, Nova backing up because Mike tells him to, Nova putting socks in the wash machine, food wrappers in the trash etc etc.I once put a credit card on the floor and watched Mike’s dog pick it up and return it with nary a bite mark!Mike does not live near me, sigh. But he IS my nephew and I see more videos and hear more stories than you’ll ever see. But YOU might live near him and get to experience his transforming ability to change the way your dog operates, and to negate those bad habits.It won’t take as long as you think!
