I teamed up with Carolyn Oliver to decorate and design the remodel of my home. I credit much of the successful outcome of my project to Carolyn's warm engaging personality. She is a delight and when you work with her, you are not only a client but a friend. Carolyn’s creativity, fabulous design skills and taste resulted in a spectacular result. She created a beautiful living space(kitchen, dining room, living room, 2 bathrooms) that exudes the feeling and energy I wanted for my home. All the while, she was mindful to keep within the project budget, without sacrificing quality. We continue to collaborate in decorating the house. In 2015, I was among a few clients who accompanied Carolyn on a trip to Paris for a design expo and a wonderful tour of the city. It was a grand experience. I highly recommend Carolyn Oliver’s Interior Designs. More...

Carolyn is a consummate professional. She is creative, artistic and importantly, has architectural knowledge of various historical styles and design concepts. I worked with Carolyn over several years on our historic Wallace Neff hacienda style home. Her design treatments respected the architecture and brought new life, a sense of elegance and a freshness that has made our home come alive. Her sense of color, texture and design is among the best I have seen. And, she is always looking for ways to save the homeowner $$$, including repurposing existing elements and getting the most for the dollars spent. Our work on this project included replicating wrought iron details, drapery, fabric, rug and upholstery treatments, designing an office out of a pantry, built in bookcases and turning a dressing room into a guest bedroom with a murphy bed (you would never guess) with cabinets that appear to be part of the original architecture.

What I love working with Carolyn is that she is "quick on her feet" and can zero in quickly on design problems and "solves". Because of her vast experience and knowledge of resources, she gets down to business and doesn't waste time. Our most recent project, starting in 2013, has been the Santa Barbara pied a terre (pictured on this site). Here she has taken bold color and contemporary elements - fabric, paint, lighting and incorporated those with antique rugs and furnishings to create a very fresh design and appeal. With the Mediterranean garden as focal point and by adding the antique style fountain, she has enhanced the provencal feel of the property and created a spaciousness that extends one's living from indoors to the outside.

I started working with Carolyn Oliver after I saw the kitchen and family room that she designed for the 2006 Pasadena Showcase House–America’s oldest and largest home show. I was so impressed that I immediately wanted my whole house to look like one of her creations.

I have strong aesthetic opinions, which probably makes designing for me very difficult. But not for Carolyn, who can take my ideas and make them live in form, feeling, and functionality. The result is rarely what I had pictured in my mind; however, it is always so much better than anything I could have imagined. She can also be relied on to save you money and, by providing a wide range of options, she makes sure you receive the best value for your investment.

On a recent trip to Paris, she arranged for us to attend the Maison Objet. We explored products from all over Europe, and we came back with exciting treasures, each designed to add that special touch.

Our last shopping trip to LA’s Pacific Design Center left me armed with beautiful fabrics for a family room update. Carolyn provided ideas and resources for transforming the room–now a beautiful reality with colors, patterns, and textures that seem to say, “Come on in, sit down and be mesmerized.”

Carolyn also has the tact required to rein me in when I envision 10 focal points for a room, a weakness of mine. She convinces me with sound design principles, visualizations, and good-natured cajoling of the error of my ways, so we stay within the parameters of great design.

She definitely knows how to make a house a home—your home. And what is also important, working with her is a lot of fun.

What I appreciate most about Carolyn is she encouraged the expression of my personal style and provided inspiring guidance with her life long study of architecture and decorative arts. All of her design recommendations were explained with design priciples and we had fun together in the process.
