Let me start by saying this... We have trained 2 dogs with Joey and just starting on Dog #3. With that, let me say that Joey is the best Dog trainer in the USA. With Joey being in Ohio and us in SoCal, we train via skype with Great success. If you have a question about any behaviors or training questions just call, he's there.
Our first dog, a Weimeraner, was trained on-site at Joey's school (see testimonial on website or below) With us moving to CA, our 2nd dog, a Coonhound/Weimeraner mix, was trained via skype. Both ways worked equally. As long as you follow Joey's teachings 1000%, your dog will be amazing. When you tell your dog to sit in a Petsmart 10ft from where they're training other dogs that are bouncing off the walls, walk down the aisle (25ft away from your dog) and your dog just watches the other dogs out of control. That's Joey. I shopped for 2-3 minutes while my dog just patiently sat waiting. One of the ladies (with the out of control dog) said she was only on her 7th lesson how many lessons did it take to get your dog to do that??? I slowly was petting my dog (who was still sitting and looking up at me) and said, 5 lessons.... from my trainer Joey at Ohio state K-9 College. I said call him. I gave her some info and we walked away. This happens every time we go out in public. People just are amazed. Remember 5 LESSONS!, as you have read from others here. My wife and I insist Joey used to be a dog in another life. I'm sure of it! Now, training our 10 week old Shepard/Pit mix. In 3 days of having him, he will now potty on command (when taking him out), not to enter the house without a command, will not eat without me telling him to "EAT". On all occasions, the dog will be in a sit and look up at you waiting for the command. So, in closing, if you want an obedient dog and a dog trained the right way, GO WITH JOEY!! I can go on for another 10,000 words but just know Joey will train you and your dog. Follow the training and be the Alpha in your dog's life for life. Happy training to all!!

Where do I begin with my story on Coco? I guess I will begin from the day we brought her home. That fateful day, we rescued a 10 week old Weimaraner puppy! We knew we were a bit uncomfortable about the “breeder”, but didn’t realize until we had her home how sick and abused she really was! With not much personality left in her our main goal was to get her back to a healthy and playful puppy. About 6 weeks later, her personality was beginning to show. She eventually became a typical, wild, out of control Weim pup! Living in Arizona at the time, I had decided that my best choice (which is no longer even a choice) was to take her to Petsmart training classes. I had, what I thought at the time, good success. She usually listened (when I had treats was best) but she still pulled when on a leash and could NEVER be trusted outside without a leash! When Coco was about 1 year old, we moved here to Ohio. We no longer had a small fenced yard to keep her in, but now we had 1/3 acre with just a parameter in-ground containment system for her to roam free in. WELL, Coco became unbelievably out of control. She would defy you in every way possible: running away from you when trying to get her in the house (which would take typically 5 – 10 minutes), chasing and knocking over not only my kids but any kid who would come to the house, and chasing her all over the house to get her into her kennel. Walking her was now completely out of the question. This dog would tug and pull you like a horse pulling a chariot. With having many dogs over the years, I found myself, for the first time ever, ready to give up on this dog that I put so much love and care into.

Then, I decided before giving her away, to pull out the Yellow Pages and look for trainers. I made my list of dog schools and began calling. Fortunately, I didn’t get far. The first call I made was to Ohio State K-9 College. Trying not to breakdown in tears, I explained my situation to Joey. Of course, he ultimately told me to read his website, call other trainers and then call him back and he would discuss it further with me. After reading the website, I decided there was no real reason to make any other calls. I knew I had found, what sounded to me, a “good trainer”. I was wrong! I found a MASTER TRAINER! After our follow-up conversation, I decided to get Coco evaluated. Of course, she tugged and pulled me across the yard and Joe immediately confirmed my dog was out of control. Joey quickly took the leash and began what I call his “magic”. Coco actually responded, as slight as it was, to Joey. I thought at that moment "if He can do this in just a few minutes with her, imagine what her potential can be!!" Joey has even been out to our house to “tweak” issues that have arisen. At almost 2 years now, Coco is a well-behaved dog that I can take anywhere, anytime with great pride.

Joey is not only known in our house as our “Master Trainer”, but also our friend! My husband and I always say that Joey knows dogs so well that he must have been a dog in his prior life and has been reincarnated as a human to help those like Coco and myself.

Thanks Joey!

Joey helped my family train our dog over 25 years ago and became a friend. We were not just another customer. I’ve had a puppy for a few weeks and was having some issues that I didn’t want to develop as the dog grows in size so I looked him up. I wasn’t sure how much he could do since I live in another state but he called me back within the hour and offered to Skype immediately. We then spent close to 3 hours working on a ton of things, taking notes and answering questions. He takes the time to make sure you do the work correctly so being remote is not an issue. It has only been a couple days but we’re already are seeing improvement. Thanks for everything. More...

After twenty years of living without a dog in our home, my wife finally convinced me to purchase one. We decided on a 1 year old male Morkie named Charlie. Charlie is a great little dog and has a wonderful disposition with people. However, he would lunge to the end of his leash, barking and growling at every dog he saw, more so with large dogs. We knew very little about training a dog. We didn’t have a clue how to fix Charlies behavioral issues. We decided to watch some YOUTUBE videos in hopes they would help us fix Charlie’s problems, but all of the suggestions from those videos didn’t work for us. We decided to find a professional trainer. We discussed our dog’s behavior issues with numerous dog training schools. None had the behavior training course needed to fix our dog. We consulted all our local pet stores and discovered they only offered a basic 5 command obedience training course, the same course offered by the dog training schools we contacted online. After all our research, we finally decided that we would need a dog behavior specialist, an expert that could indeed fix all the behavior issues Charlie had developed. At this point, we also realized that we didn’t want the typical pet store group class type training they all offered. We realized that it would only make Charlie worse being around so many dogs there. We decided to purchase ONE-ON-ONE training, which would be best for our dog. We finally found the Ohio State K-9 College. Their website provided all of the information we needed to be confident Charlie would be properly trained with their ONE-ON-ONE type training. In fact, their website explained things that no other trainer had even brought to our attention. Including, many things that I didn’t even think to ask any trainer about. After reading their site, I completed their required ON-LINE-TEST to demonstrate that I had read and understood all the information about their school. The following day, I was contacted by the owner of the school Joey Byas and we started discussing what I wanted for training. That call lasted about 90 minutes, in which Joey explained that he does not use choke, spike, or shock collar or hurt a dog in any way. I took Charlie in for the required 2 hours obedience training evaluation for the TOTAL CONTROL course I desired, and another hour for Joey to type up all of my dog’s behavior and socialization issues he currently saw in Charlie. Joey’s written estimate is very through and covered all of the courses and details that would be needed to fix all of my dog’s issues correctly and permanently. While going through this evaluation, I realized that Joey was also testing my ability to follow his instructions, during the evaluation of Charlie. Joey explained that he has been training dog’s and their owner’s for over 40+ years, using his 100% voice control training, and that he is a "Master Trainer." Joey agreed to train Charlie and to also train me, and we started our first class, which began by Joey demonstrating (hands-on) how he fixes separation anxiety. Joey had it fixed in less than 5 minutes, and in another 10 minutes he had Charlie fixed for ME (even when left alone in his cage) and we have not had any separation anxiety with Charlie since. By the end of the first obedience training class I could see a big change in how Charlie was behaving and responding to MY commands. Joey provided me with written instruction on how to fix my dog’s behavior issues, and how to properly work with his obedience training between our weekly classes. We also discussed a lot about dog psychology, involving the proper ways to train Charlie and most importantly to train ME. Charlie has been performing the commands we teach him each class, on the very 1st command given. I highly recommend that you contact Joey Byas for all your dog training needs. John Ward More...

He had explained to me in details of the past, presence and the future of my dog. Even helped me to better understand his mindset and better understand my breed of dog so I can better help my furr baby. About 20 years ago I was the proud owner of a very large, black, male Doberman, Pumbah. I took him to Ohio State K-9 College to be trained. Pumbah was the most amazing dog, ever. On a trip to the vet’s office, I checked in with the receptionist and took a seat in the lobby. I asked Pumbah to lie down and stay. A few seconds later, the receptionist called me to the window. With all these other dogs whining, barking, and jerking their owners’ arms to get across the room, I got up and walked over to the window. Pumbah stayed right where he was. What I remember most was the looks on peoples’ faces when I got up and left my 110-pound Doberman lying there, and even more so the looks on their faces as I walked back. Pumbah was a wonderful member of our family. Now, flash forward 20 years. I am currently the not-so-proud owner of another Doberman. She is a beautiful dog. Her coat is shiny, her eyes are bright, and she has great form. But, do not be fooled by appearances. She will chew anything made of fabric in my home and destroy it. For example: my carpet, 3 dog beds, a blanket, a couple of pillows, and any random pair of socks she finds. She loves to go for a walk, but I end up going for a drag. She will sit if you ask her to, but only if you have a cookie, otherwise, not. If you ask her to lie down and stay, she may for a few seconds, but then she will leap up and run laps around my living room like the Indy 500. And, should anyone decide to go for a walk, jog or bike ride past my house, she runs out into the road after them. I yell for her to come to me, but she ignores me and runs circles around them, barking. And, then it is a game of me chasing her and trying to get her to come to me. She has recently began snapping at people. It is so bad; I have thought about giving her away. But then that just makes her someone else’s problem. I am convinced she did not come to us this way as a puppy. Then, I thought back to Pumbah, and Ohio State K-9 College and, I finally admitted IT WAS MY FAULT. She is not a bad dog, I failed her as an owner. If you call Ohio State K-9 College do not expect a cheerful, smiling receptionist to answer, or a soft-spoken trainer to offer to take your dog for a couple weeks telling you all will be well in the universe. No, here’s what you can expect. The master trainer, Joey, will have expected you to have read his website, which by the way is LOADED with information. He will make sure you have read the website. If we, the owners, cannot take the time to read a website, then how can we be expected to take the time to follow through with training sessions? The master trainer is not soft-spoken, and he has an air of authority about him, kind of like a principal. I felt it when he trained my Pumbah, and the dogs feel it too. Do not expect a trainer that will tell you what you want to hear. Joey will tell you what you need to hear, no matter how painful. We are the ones that need the training. Our dogs’ behavior is in direct response to what we have allowed or unwittingly taught them to do. What other reviewers have relegated as rude and loud. I perceived as someone who is truly passionate about his work. And right now, I don’t need someone who will tell me what I want to hear and make empty promises. I need a master trainer who knows what he’s talking about. Joey knows what he is talking about. I have seen him take a dog, with no previous training, and within a few minutes (yes, I said minutes), he had the dog performing basic commands. I am going to fix the mistake I have made with my current dog. I am going to go back and read that website. All of it. I am going to call Ohio State K-9 College and I am driving the 3 hours to Columbus. I will never own another dog that has not been trained by Joey. More...

My German Shepherd was extremely smart, even-tempered, loyal, strong-willed, and confident – the perfect blend of characteristics I knew would make for the guard dog and loving pet that I desired. But I also knew that with such a large, powerful, and unfortunately misunderstood breed that he needed to be trained properly to achieve my goals. I quickly realized that I needed professional help train him properly. I was directed to the Ohio State K-9 College website, and I read every...single...line. It was then that I realized that if anyone was going to help me to get Samson trained to the point where I needed him to be in his obedience and beyond, it was Joey Byas and the Ohio State K-9 College.I went to my first evaluation with him where he not only assessed Samson’s demeanor, attitude, and willingness to work for me, but also my willingness to work with Samson. Joey educated me further on his training methods and philosophy, as well as the history of the German Shepherd breed. This was information that enabled me to have greater insight into the emotional and physical needs of Samson so that I could be a better trainer and master for him and therefore bring out the best in him. As we began training, it was evident that my Shepherd's intelligence, strong-will, and confidence were going to make training easy. But those same characteristics (along with his physical strength) made it clear from the first day that he was going to test us on everything. But Joey walked us both through the process in our one-on-one, individualized training sessions. The thing that I remember most about our training sessions, was that Joey was training ME just as much (if not more) than he was individually training Samson each class. In order for Samson to be the best dog he could be, I had to be the best owner and master I could be. And because of Joey’s entire training process, Samson and I brought the best out of each other: strength, loyalty, stability, confidence, and love for one another. I will never forget the way Samson looked up at me during our training with Joey (and on our own) – with such adoration, respect, and desire to always please and obey me.At the end of our training classes, I could whisper or use only hand commands from 200 yards away and Samson would obey. Not only that, but he would obey the first time on every command. There was no coercion (choke or spike collar training) or even bribery with treats involved (obviously you can’t when you’re 200 yards away). It was purely from hard work, consistency, and dedication to each other along with the Ohio State K-9 College’s training methods that enabled this type of obedience. More than just obedience and behavioral training, Joey also provided me with guidance and advice – from leash care, to foods and treats, and proper socialization training with people and dogs. Joey remembers every dog and owner with which he works. And even though I had completed my doctoral program and moved out-of-state, I could call him and ask him questions about Samson and behavioral or obedience issues. And Joey would always make time to walk me through the situations or issues. I believe that it is only because of the training he and I received at Ohio State K-9 College that enabled him to become the best that he could be – the best of himself, the best and most loyal companion for me, and the best friend for me, our family, and our kids. And it’s because of Joey and his team that Samson was able to bring out the best in me. I can’t speak highly enough of Joey and the Ohio State K-9 College. For them, it’s not just about obedience training. Their entire teaching process and philosophy is unlike any other school I researched before I attended his school. It is an entirely a holistic, comprehensive approach to build mutual respect, adoration, and love for one another. It takes time. It takes work. But in the end, it is completely worth it to obtain the unbelievable, unshakable bond and trust between dog and master. More...

Joey Byas at Ohio State K-9 is indeed a Master Trainer. His encyclopedic knowledge of dog psychology and the importance of tailoring instruction according to breed, age, sex, birth order, instinct, temperament, and other known factors, helps direct training into achievable outcomes. More importantly, he trains the trainer/owner/handler, which in my case proved to be more of a challenge than training the dog. I was the slower student of the two who had to learn how to communicate better with my dog and to understand his abilities and behaviors. I found that training is a challenge and always a work in progress. What attracted me to Joey’s school was the avoidance of chokers and prong collars. In his Total Control Course, he largely uses voice commands and some leash corrections. In our initial meeting, he demonstrated his own Doberman’s immediate response to all voice, whisper, and hand commands: sit, down, heel, and stay. He achieved the same basic results with my smart, hyperactive, and sometimes stubborn Dutch Shepherd pup in only a few sessions. Of course, the basics must be reinforced in other environments with various distractions by the owner. That was not the entire program, however. After learning the basic commands, we then moved to outdoor and distance training, and prepared my dog for off leash commands. Mr. Byas’s methods may be unusual to some. Unlike many dog training businesses, Joey requires a prospective customer to read his web site and take an online test. Then he requires a face-to-face interview with the handler and his or her dog in order to assess the dog’s abilities and the handler’s motivation. He will sometimes train a dog that others refused or were unable to train successfully. While instruction is not cheap, Mr. Byas gives individualized and focused attention. He puts a great deal of effort into training sessions, and afterwards spends additional time writing notes, reviewing training goals, and evaluating the pooch’s and handler's progress in order to ensure the owner understands what is needed to become successful. He may even phone or email additional instructions later. Furthermore, he offers suggestions for diet, grooming, and socializing a dog, tips often overlooked in large obedience classes or weeks-long kennel training. Mr. Byas also offers to kennel his canine customers. Demonstrating a lifelong love of dogs and 40 years as a trainer, he seeks to bring out the best in our canine companions.PS: I notice that some of the poor one-star reviews for Ohio State K-9 are from dog owners who complain about Mr. Byas’s personality or his prerequisites, but who never actually trained their dogs with him. The first thing to know about the Ohio State K-9 College is that it is not for everybody. You have to be willing to actively learn to be a student at this school. This starts at the website. When I bought my puppy I couldn’t see training her with a shock collar or other cruel method. I researched every single trainer in central Ohio, diligently read every website, and eventually settled on Ohio State K-9 College. Then, I found I had to apply myself to learning before I ever set foot in a class.Joey, the trainer of masters (he teaches people, not dogs) spent hours on the phone with me. He quizzed me to see if I had actually read his website. He told me how other schools trained dogs. He explained how he trained people. He asked me what I expected to get out of my purchase. He talked, and talked and talked; and he expected me to listen. I did not expect this experience. I expected to call, make an appointment and start training my dog. Initially I was a bit frustrated; however, having decided that I wanted this school I powered through.WOW! It has been worth it. Joey is amazing. My little girl is sitting and staying, laying down, coming to me, and starting to heel after just three weeks of training (and practicing). Once you employ Joey, he is with you for the long haul. You get private instruction customized to you and your dog. There are no distractions, no other animals to take the instructor’s attention away from you and you truly benefit from someone with over 30 years of experience working with dogs.My adult son has autism, and Joey is working with him to teach him how to care for the dog, as well as training the dog to care for my son. It is wonderful to see that partnership growing.Joey does not take every potential student who calls. He doesn’t have that kind of time. He uses his time on the phone to screen out the people who will not have the open mind and/or open ears to work with him and use his method. This can (and probably does) put many people off. My mother used to tell me that no progress comes without effort. Joey’s system works very well if you are willing to put the time and effort into working with your dog. My puppy is so proud of herself when she get the commands correctly – you can see it in her posture.Oh, and to people who want a price over the phone – Joey must meet the dog and owner first. How can he know if it will take six weeks or 12 weeks to teach you until after he meets you?To summarize: Before you start with any trainer, do your due diligence; read their websites thoroughly. Call them, and see how long they will spend on the phone with you. Actively listen to what they have to say. You will undoubtedly end up at Ohio State K-9 College. More...

I found Ohio State K9 College roughly about 18 months ago. My husband and I are disabled and our puppy was growing much larger than I had expected. The website is extensive. I read it all. I took the test, and got the number to call. As some other less than favorable reviews have said, Joey talks extensively about the school and the training and it is true that he doesn't let you get much of a word in edgewise. This is for a reason. Joey is evaluating you during that first call. He has to find out your temperament and patience levels. The others are also right about not being able to say much about their dog. Well, humans have a tendency to exaggerate. Your dog will let Joey know during your dog's evaluation. If you get the number and call Joey, listen to him, answer if he asks you questions, because this isn't about you evaluating the trainer, this is the first part of admissions testing for Ohio State K9 College. Someone said Joey was a fast talker. Yep. They are absolutely right. Joey has so much information to share that he has to talk fast so that he has time to do everything else. On top of training, Joey helps out with things at his church, in the winter he helps clear snow for several individuals, and if there is something he can help you with, he will go out of his way to help you.I completed the phone call and set up the paid evaluation of my dog, and how my dog behaves when I handle him. The evaluation didn't go well, as my pup would only sit with an authoritarian voice. He failed all other parts of the evaluation. At that time Joey asked about behaviors that I wanted changed in the dog. From chewing pillows and digging holes and chasing cats, we went over it all. It wasn't difficult to come to the conclusion that I wanted the total control class. I needed it because my husband and I are disabled. Joey agreed that my sister would be the best abled to train the dog. She has a great command voice and is very Alpha personality. Downside, she fell into habits that most people do, repeating the command over and over instead of one command, one correction or praise. She would grow frustrated when Joey corrected her. Her patience was not sufficient for training purposes. In January of 2018, my sister, husband and I were involved in a horrible car accident that resulted in some permanent injuries. Joey was a comforting voice as I was in a back brace with three broken vertebrae. He talked to me more than my family while I was in the hospital. The hospital didn't let me see my husband and they limited my phone conversations with him. We spent nearly a month in a nursing facility before we got to go home. We spent much of 2018 recovering. After more than a year of being out of training, I talked to Joey about starting the training again. We also discussed making me the primary trainer. Joey did not have to agree to this because we were contracted that my sister would be the trainer. Joey understands that things happen and he knew that for this dog to be a success he had to have a good trainer that fits well with his program. We went back and Joey quickly re-evaluated our dog and I felt that the dog really made me look good. The dog remembered Joey and knows that when we are in training with Joey, he will not be confused because of Joey's extensive experience. Joey does the same thing every time, and this is what he teaches you to do as well. It can be frustrating, but Joey has to teach the human as well as the dog, and quite frankly, the dog is much easier to train. After our session, Joey pulled up written training notes he had sent my sister (that she thought she sent me). We sat for hours reading and revising. Going over the points I needed to work on. This was a great tool for me simply because I could review it at any time, AND I could add my own notes to send back to Joey before our next session. If you train with Joey he becomes a member of your pack, your family. He is an exemplary trainer. This is why he is a Master Trainer.Much more to tell, so little space. More...

Joey is a really good dog trainer. I have been working with him for 6 months now. My German Shepherd is very strong willed. We I hired Joey, I was almost afraid to walk my dog, as she pulled so hard on the leash and lunged and barked at every passing being. I was afraid I would completely loose control of her. It has taken a lot of work, but now my Shepherd seldom pulls on the leash. I tell her "down stay," and she does, even outside with dogs across the street. Our vet even noticed a huge difference in her demeanor Joey is like an olympic coach. He is constantly nit picking every move you make: how you hold the leash, how you stand, tone of your voice, and so on. The results though, are a WELL TRAINED dog. I read in his bio that his name was Zeke and he is friendly to people, but that he is extremely animal aggressive, however, I did not this at the pound.I took two days before purchasing him, visiting and bonding with Zeke.As soon as I got him home, I tried to walk him and everything went south from there. He was pulling so hard that he completely uncontrollable. Zeke was only 65 pounds and I am 210 lbs and 6 feet. Still he knocked me down several times pulling and chase after animals. I believe that he was constantly looking for a fight and that he may bite, so I certainly needed professional help.Thankfully, I found Joey Byas Master Trainer. Joey evaluated Zeke and my handling skills with my dog. My dog and I got all zeros his evaluation test, in every category (indoor, fence yard, and an open field) on and off leash, except for the command sit inside. At the end of the evaluation, I notice that the dog was performing first commands for Joey. This told me the dog was basically fine, but his owner handling was not effective and confused him, more often than not. Therefore, I immediately enrolled my dog and myself on 10/30/18 for his TOTAL CONTROL obedience training course, the behavior, socialization, and housebreaking courses, so I could attain the best results possible for my dog and myself.Within 24 hours there was a huge change in my ability to work with my dog. Zeke responded 1st command every time he was commanded: heel, sit, stay and fun command. He even responded to them with whisper and hand commands. All week long I was looking forward to the next class and the progress that it would bring. More...

I echo the sentiments of EVERY student that I met at the Ohio State K-9 College, including all of their Goggle reviews and testimonials that I have read before enrollment. Although, there is so much more that I would like to say. My research extended far beyond just reviews and testimonials. It evolved calling EVERY school, researching all their METHODS, STYLES, and the EXPERIENCE of the trainer that would be working with me and my dog, on every class. Joey is so passionate about the students he will excepts for enrollment... I found that on my dog (2 year old brindle Pitbull female) they wanted to use a chock, spike, and/or a shock collar to train her, which I do NOT approve of whatsoever... More...

Several months ago, I was surfing the internet, looking for the best dog training I could find for my 1 year old male American Pit-bull Terrier that was in desperate need of professional training. I have been trying to housebreak, behavior train and properly socialize him since he was 8 weeks old, but he was still often defecating in my home, and had developed many behavior issues common to his breed: chewing on many different items, and I didn’t fully trust him off leash around other dogs, or people he didn’t know well. I love my dog dearly, but I also realize that I wouldn’t be able to keep him if I couldn’t get all these issues resolved, and I certainly didn’t want to be involved with any legal action if I couldn’t properly control him everywhere I took him. I did my best to train my dog, but because of my limited knowledge of dog training, I just couldn’t get him trained to the point that I needed and truly desired without the help of an expert trainer. Therefore, after reading every dog training website on internet (and speaking with them all over the phone) it was obvious that the only dog training school my dog and I would be enrolling at would be the Ohio State K-9 College. They were the only school that had a TOTAL CONTROL COURSE that I needed for complete control of my dog when he was OFF LEASH, they were also the only school that offered a guaranteed in writing that they would be able to fix all of the other issues he had developed, once he had completed their training courses. A few weeks ago, I purchased an 8 week old make Rottweiler (German Import) that I paid a small fortune for in order to get an excellent Rot. I knew a lot about this breed and how stubborn they can be, so I knew I wanted a trainer who SPECIALIZED in this breed, so I could get him trained properly to become and asset to my family, instead of just a problem dog or a liability. So I researched EVERY trainer I could fine on the internet (trying to find the perfect trainer) for my dog. Finally, I found a trainer that offered the personal protection training courses that I desired for my dog in the near future. After the evaluation was completed at the school, I immediately enrolled. After 12 weeks of training, I now have a dog that will preform all of my commands (not only OFF LEASH) but, at over 100 yards away from me EVERYWHERE I take him. Including, with whisper and hand commands, and performs them on a 1st command basis. Thank God he also offered all of the additional training courses I was currently in need of housebreaking, socialization, and obedience training. Ohio State K-9 College was also the only school I found that offered a lifetime garrantee on their OFF LEASH training. Needless to say, I have the best-trained Rot of anyone I've ever known, and will be starting with the protection training in a few more weeks, and the training is more humane than any other training I found while searching. I now have the dog of my dreams, thanks to Master Trainer Joey Byas. My Rot loves Joey nearly as much as me. The way Joey trains a dog and (their owner) is more than unbelievable, it's truly magically. Each class I watched him train my dog, I understood WHY everyone chooses his school, especially (if they researched trainers like I did) he is much more than an EXPERT TRAINER, he possess all the knowledge and skills at his job that I could ever desire. But, what is even more impressive is that he developed these attributes is me with my dog. Thanks Joey Byas for your patience with me as well as my Rot! More...

Little over a year ago I decided I wanted a dog and not just any dog but a rottweiler. I had my concerns with having young children but I have always loved rottweilers. I searched different trainers and then I found Joey and he explained to me how lovable and loyal the rottweiler breed can be with the right training. Joey gave the right quality to look for in the breed. With that said the search began I found a breeder joe looked it over and told me I made a good choice. At 8 weeks old we began training. Joey helped me with house breaking and within the 1st week Diesel learn sit 2nd week down 3 week come 4th week heal. After every class I would show my family what Diesel learned and encourage them to work with him also. I was so impressed on how quickly joe was able to not only train Diesel but myself. So as the weeks went on, one training at a time Diesel was able to do every command on the first time giving. My work schedule would only allow me to meet with joe once a week but he call me through the week and discuss any problems I would have. Joe help with me everything from food toys and treats. At the end of my training classes Deisel was able to do every command on and off leash in my normal voice and whisper voice. But the one thing that impressed me the most was myself standing over 100 yards away and Diesel did every command with only hand commands. Its the little things Joey has learned over the years that makes him the best trainer. Joey explains and shows how to train your dog and explains to you how this class will help you in later classes. Its easy to watch a trainer on video or tv and think oh i can do that. But what you dont unerstand is the training that dog already has before the video and how simple one thing can confuse your dog. Joey never used choker collars or spike collars on my rottweiler that other trainers uses on big breeds and still got the very best out of my rottweiler. Joey evaluates your dog ask what your looking for from your dog and gets started. Now a year old Diesel is the most loyal lovable dog I have ever own. Over the years rottweilers have got a bad wrap but with the right training they are a great dog. I can't not thank Joey enough for the training. I would give Joey master trainer at Ohio State K9 collage 10 stars if it would let me. More...

My journey for a dog trainer started after my 8 week old pure German alpha male Rott wouldn't even look at me when I was talking to him and was biting everything in sight. I searched everywhere to find a good trainer that just didn't shock them stupid, and that was hard to find until one day I searched through Google and found the Ohio State K-9 College that used voice command first. I took the online test Joey requires everyone to take and then I gave him call. He seemed very knowledgeable on how to handle my Rott. I also liked that he works with dogs and owners one on one and not in group classes like a lot of the other trainers I found searching did. Also, Joey was the only one that did housebreaking. Now onto my Rott.My Rott was 8 weeks old when I got him, I instantly knew he was what I was looking for. We picked him up and brought him back home with us. He started biting, at the time we thought he was play biting but he kept getting worse and worse. I have a year old daughter and that was unacceptable to have that behavior going on. He was the Alpha male in his litter so every time I would tell him no he would growl and bark at me and size me up. He would also have accidents in his cage all the time no matter how much I would take him outside. So, I went and met Joey and did his evaluation. Joey also showed me what his dogs were trained like and after seeing it that's how I wanted my dog to act. So I signed the contract to start Rogue's and my training with Joey at the Ohio State K-9 College. I live in Mansfield and Joey is about an hour to hour and half, we have done 5 sessions over Skype which is a huge saver! The first few weeks, we worked on the basic commands and that made a big difference in itself which were the common sit, stay, down, come and heel commands. I was also having a issue's with him using the bathroom inside the house . I spent weeks trying to get him to learn to let us know when he has to go. I was so frustrated I was thinking about getting rid of him so, I asked Joey what I could do he told me to leave the dog with him. I ended up leaving the dog with him for 5 days. After those 5 days he hasn't had an accident inside the house since. Joey was the only trainer I found that did Housebreaking. Joey also told me which foods to use that would better suit my puppy. I've been so happy with the results I've gotten from the Ohio State K-9 College. My dog now runs to me off leash from over 100 ft away and we are still working on going further away. He looks at me all the time now and loves getting worked. Joey is worth every penny and you won't find anyone else that does what he does. I highly recommend the Ohio State K-9 College. In order to receive the best results out of your dog I highly recommend the total control package which includes obedience, behavior, housebreaking, whisper commands and hand commands. More...

I received Joey as a referral originally from a family member who could not tell me ENOUGH great things about Joey and his abilities. I went in for basic training, but realized myself and Roxy (Doberman) would best benefit from TOTAL COURSE.
The training process is a major commitment for you and the dog, as well as for Joey. His time is valuable so BE SERIOUS, and ready to put in work. The evaluation process is 2-sided as he is evaluating YOU and your dogs as much as he is being evaluated as a trainer. DO NOT call for an evaluation until you read every section of his web site and pass the quiz. This intensity might turn off? However, for me personally it showed his dedication and his passion.
At our first visit with Joey, I was not expecting to leave with Roxy responding to voice commands. To my surprise she was RESPONDING!!! She was sitting, fun on voice command. Depending on the training program you select (I RECOMMEND THE TOTAL COURSE) you can expect your dog to obey all commands by using hand signals and whispers. Joey teaches your dog by using only HUMANE methods and by gaining the respect of the dog. Your dog will sit, stay, lie down, come, heel, fun and “potty” on command. You can expect these commands performed NEAR or FAR utilizing WHISPER or HAND COMMANDS.
You get what you pay for AND MUCH MORE!!! Biggest TWO differences between OSK9 and several other options that I researched are:
*One-on-one training with me, Roxy, and Joey (group lessons). Results are guaranteed for the life of the dog, so you can always go back for refreshers if problem behaviors arise. We are going back because I have been out of the country and needed a refresher.
*Joey teaches MASTERS. Beyond the actual training, Joey also taught ME a ton about grooming nutrition, and equipment, and has even provided boarding for BEYOND fair price which also INCLUDES training refresher.
The cost is substantial but not doing it could've cost infinitely more given the damage that the dog could cause without proper training.

I take Roxy to the park or anywhere and give her ANY command at several hundred feet away from me, and she obeys on the first command EVERY single TIME. I highly recommend Joey to anyone who can COMMIT to the process, required homework, and dedicate/invest time and energy.

Reviews are extremely important to the consumer and to the business. I take into consideration every single review whether they are positive or negative on a product or service I am interested in. With that being said, I did EXTENSIVE research on dog trainers in my area. I have a 100 pound, 1.5 year old male red Doberman Pinscher.

I have wanted a Doberman for many years now, I fell in love with the breed and could not wait to get a puppy. I located a reputable breeder and purchased my pup in late 2016. My puppy was the largest in his littler which ultimately gave him the alpha mindset early on. I established my superior role to him at an early age but he has recently developed some behavior issues that have become hard for me with my limited knowledge of dog training to overcome. Such as showing fear aggression toward children and other dogs.

I had originally been taking my dog to a group sessions at Columbus All Breed Training Club. The training methods taught at the group sessions did not work for me or my dog. I was rewarding my dog with treats EXCESSIVELY to the point where my dog would not even sit on command without a treat, and to also have him on a choke collar. I felt very discouraged by this and began my search for a new trainer that could help me reach the goals I wanted without using harmful methods, (Treat rewards, shock collars, prong/spike collars, choke collars.) I had countless phone interviews and in person evaluations from other training places that all wanted me to pay them upwards of 1,000-3,800 to board my dog for a few weeks and "cure" him using unsafe measures.

I came across Ohio State K-9 College and after reading the testimonials from former students , I had a good feeling I had found the right person. After speaking with Joey over the phone I was eager to meet him. I appreciated how thorough and informative Joey was and he was honest with me on what I should expect. I reached out to former students of his on Facebook to ask if they were still satisfied with their results and they all continued to praise him even years after using him.

At my evaluation, I knew I wanted to have total control over my dog. After our first session, my dog was responding to me using hand commands/whisper commands. I was so impressed I could barely contain my excitement. To achieve these kind of results using voice control ONLY, takes total determination by the handler for success. Results like this could NEVER be achieved by boarding your dog with a stranger and allowing them to use harmful methods on him. The knowledge and consistency that Joey poses is remarkable and will help you achieve a bond with your dog that you never thought possible.

I purchased the total control course. After four sessions, my dog is already completely different in the best way. I now have a dog that will not take his eyes off of me and obeys commands every time they are given. To label Joey's methods as "backyard training" shows that you did not do your research on what kind of trainer would best fit your needs, or you are unwilling to put in the work and are simply looking for the easy way out. Which as you probably figured out on your own, will not work.

If you have a dog that you have had unsuccessful training else where, or that other trainers have deemed hopeless with behavior issues you can not fix, I seriously encourage you to look into Ohio State K-0 College. You owe it to your dog to educate yourself so that you can succeed in having the best relationship possible together. I look forward to completing the total control course and beginning the protection courses. Thanks again Joe for helping me gain the perfect dog.

I feel so honored to have been working with the #1 trainer in Columbus, Ohio for over 30 years with my 3 German Shepherds.
Over the years, I’ve spent so many hours researching all the trainers (in Columbus, Ohio) only to find that Ohio State K-9 College is always the best training school for my dogs, myself, and for the most humane training possible (unlike the other dog training schools) which use their very inhumane methods: chock, spike, and shock collars to train large breeds, like mine.
I also found that Ohio State K-9 College was the ONLY SCHOOL that has always offered all 6 (major training courses) that I needed: behavior, house breaking, socialization, and their TOTAL CONTROL obedience training course that I would obviously need to properly control my large dominate male dogs, when full grown.
I also realized that the basic 5 command training course that (all other school offered) would certainly not be enough control for me to have over my large dogs, once I read the Ohio State K-9 College website.
Therefore, because of the Ohio State K-9 College BEHAVIOR training course (each of my dogs bad behavior issues were eliminated) and with their HOUSEBREAKING course (each of my dogs would actually potty on command) and with their SOCIALIZATION training course (each of my dogs were always gentle) when they were supposed to be.
Anyone who spends time properly researching the dog training industry (as I’ve done) obviously desires the best DOG and OWNER training possible, would quickly understand how important it is to choose a professional MASTER TRAINER, a professional teacher of people.
Anyone who reads my review will understand WHY my new 8 week old male German shepherd will be trained at the Ohio State K-9 College…

Amazing. Our German Shepherd puppy was a handful and the biting was horrible. Let's not talk about obeying a command She stopped the biting after the first training session. Joey teaches you how to work with your dog. You never have to use a choke, spike or shock collar (that's why I picked Ohio State K-9 College). Treats not even used for training, they are just for fun now. These are individualized lessons for you and your dog. He is the real deal, he loves dogs and loves training them. YOU have to be willing to work with your dog. The results are the best behaved dog that you and your family can enjoy together. More...
