Excellent as always
I went here with my family mainly hoping to get a quick and hopefully inexpensive lunch and then to buy some fresh seafood to take back to the condo so I could prepare my own dinner.I'm assuming the owner or manager met us at the door and seemed to really push the "eat in" option. So we took a seat at a table. The seafood case had 4 whole fish in it that had not been filleted or broken down other than gutted. I did not see any shrimp, crab, scallops, lobster....just 4 fish. It was not like the picture on the website at all. No prices posted anywhere - no "specials" or "just in" signs...The server brought us water and never asked if we wanted something else to drink....and then we had to ask twice for more water. They did not have fish tacos which is what I really was hoping for. I got crab cake (open face sandwich), my kids got fish and chips with fresh snapper. The crab cake was very good and the sauce and presentation was very flavorful. If this was all I tried it would be a 4.5 star. I tried the fish and chips...neither were crunchy and seemed kind of soggy, although the fish had good flavor and was very fresh. Fries...not so much.Wife had a shrimp po boy sandwich that was just ok. The sauce was pretty good but needed more of it.Bread was a little too much bread and really needed one or two more shrimp on it to make it feel like it was a shrimp po boy. I think if they hollowed out the bread and toasted it a tiny bit, then added two more shrimp and a little more sauce this could have been a killer sandwich.Overall, I'd give it about a 2 star as a fresh seafood market. Completely disappointed in that aspect and I would not go back again for that. For the restaurant side, I saw somethings that were done well and some things where they had the right idea just missed a bit on execution....I'd give it about 3 or 3.5 stars there. So Average it and I'd say 3 stars. More...
Sean was awesome, he knew so much about the wine, appetizers and fish! He was a great server and made the experience even better. The blackened grouper was by far the best grouper I've ever had! Amazing orange sauce with the grouper added great flavor especially with the mashed potatoes. Great environment, food, service and evening. Would go again when in town and recommend to all!! More...
We had not dined here in a few years (the pizza half). Just had a very delicious lunch (oyster po boy). Will definitely return for dinner in the near future! Try it!!!!
First time, and I will return. Fresh and tasty.
We tried Off The Hook for the first time for my birthday dinner. Our food was FRESH, very well presented and cooked. As a Florida Native and native to Sarasota this was hands down the best seafood I have ever had. Great service, amazing food!!
Wow what a find. We have been through the gulf gate area for years and must have missed the building. We will be back. Great staff- very helpful. Monday night so the crowd was small. I had the tile fish and wife HS the black grouper with tomato and artichoke topping. Both were amazing. We went with the $49 special. App+2 meals and desert. With wine. Great value. We will be back soon. Tyler was a wonderful server with plenty of knowledge about the food and prepWell we are back again and Stephen and his crew knocked it out of the park. We brought a newbie- he loved the Tuna. I tried the lemon grass noodles with grouper. 10+++. You will love this place, the staff and the food. More...
Well kept secret. Really good selection of seafood. Everything was prepared appropriately. Would come back.
My wife and I were nearby two nights ago and decided to give Off The Hook a try. We both enjoyed excellent meals. We loved how their menu offers the various preparation options. You pick the fish from the list of today's catch and the preparation you would like for it. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful in making suggestions. My wife had Blackfin Tuna blackened (sounds redundant, but it isn't). It was served with a delicious - not overly sweet - orange sauce. I had Gray Tile fish prepared with an off the menu chef's special creation. It was served over rice and topped with mashed avocado/red onion and a red pepper sauce. We had each ordered a glass of wine. When I got mine, I found it wasn't to my liking and our waiter happily replaced it.This was our first time here but we will be back. More...

Wonderful food and our waiter was so nice and accommodating! Ask for Tyler . Tile Fish was AMAZING!
Great food, prepared perfectly,we loved it!
Outstanding fresh seafood restaurant. Enough seafood variation (appetisers, entrees, and topping) to satisfy most tastes. Good wine list. Ample parking. Friendly staff. Limited non-seafood choices More...
Best fish in town!
Good food.....but poor service. Appeared to be under staffed.
Amazing fresh fish choices and superb service!
Great Food Excellent Service... We will be back!
My husband and I had a great experience at this restaurant for lunch. I ate the best po boy I’ve ever had. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, and there was a great balance of shrimp-sauce-veggie ratio. The server was very kind and prompt on filling our water glasses. I would highly recommend Off the Hook for great seafood and prices. More...
Every dish is fantastic. Fresh, flavorful, staff attentive but not too. Great wine choices
Off the chain!
Excellent!! Exquisite food, great Customer service and ambiance! Quality time .
Just want people to know that I have been there and have been so grateful for the very freshest fish I have ever experienced. My favorites are the salmon and red snapper. It is truly a great addition to our town. More...
Loved the crab cakes. Very welcoming place. We were suggested to get the wine pairing. Not only was it great, but we also saved some money doing this (you won't get cheated here!).
First off, the food was excellent. 10/10 on taste, options and presentation. The chef must be amazing. However, having never been here before, the menu was confusing. We were not told by the waiter that we were to choose a fish, then a presentation. Only "presentation" options are listed - not that you choose a fish, or even what the fish options are. So we had to ask the waiter how to work the menu, then he brought us a list of fresh fish. I don't feel like we should have to ask what fish options there were as they change daily - no way to know without being told. Second, we did not order an appetizer, but were brought one. Waiter said it was mistake and that it would not be on the bill. However, when we received the bill, it was on there so I had to correct him. Third, there was a $50 dinner special on the outside window that we did not see until we left. We were not told of this special by our waiter which I feel was a disservice. I would give 3 stars, but because the food was amazing, I give it 4. More...
The entire experience was wonderful. Great food and service. Definitely recommend the calamari and cauliflower appetizers. Delicious! We had bronzino, salmon, and golden rule entrees. They were each unbelievable. So fresh! Definitely recommend all three. Cannot wait to come back!! More...
Amazing menu because of the amazing Chef! And our service was EXCELLENT!!!! If you have not eaten at this restaurant it is a must experience! You won’t be disappointed.... Trust me! More...
I visit OTH for lunch a week ago, new local, nice decoration. The food? Mostly fried sea food. The service is good. Check the menu before you go.
There was no one in the restaurant and when we walked in they asked if we had a reservation....ummm no, do we need one? It was just odd the look on her face when we said no. We were then told that they had a special going on with the community where you got a coursed meal for a set price. Very slim choices but once the food came out, the quality was great. They do not have a kids menu per say but when you ask they will tell you what the can make (pretty standard kid menu choices). They do not have kid cups so that was fun...overall not a wasted night but not sure we will be back again with the kids. More...
I haven't been to Off the Hook in a year or two and am sad to say, it's gone down hill. My crab cake appetizer was average but didn't know there was shrimp in it and would honestly not have ordered it had I known. I was sold on the King fish as a light flaky fish that was mild and sweet -- similar to grouper -- once my fish came out, I was shocked to learn that king fish is mackerel. My fish did not look like grouper and it did not fast like grouper. The wine I had (I was told was extremely popular) was honestly not very good. It was the Athena Pinot noir. Dessert left a lot to be desired as well. The "warm bread pudding" appeared to be a bit old and microwaved before it came out. Not impressed. I am a disappointed by their poor recommendations (I'm sure unintentional). Not currently a place I would recommend. More...
Such a wonderful dinner! The food was amazing (definitely try the crab roll app). They accommodated my moms request for an appetizer as an entree adding steamed veggies on the side easily and without hesitation. Delicious wine the waiter recommended ( ended up getting a bottle to take home). Sean was our server and he was very pleasant with the right amount of attentiveness. Slightly more expensive with drinks but totally worth it. Definitely recommend this hidden gem. More...
Everything! The food is phenomenal, staff is amazingly friendly courteous, helpful, and down to earth, establishment is well set, clean, and pleasant, and location is perfectly placed in gulf gate! This place has immediately become mine and my fiance's #1! Definitely a must visit! More...
Great place for fresh seafood to take home and prepareI have not tried their restaurant but the menu looks interesting.
This place is in the middle of a turnover. It was not easy to find as one part of the building was labeled as the restaurant but upon entering, I was directed to the other end of the building. The online menu was not the real menu. There are several types of seafood to choose from and a whole myriad of ways to have it prepared. I asked for a mild flavor fish and served blackened. There were a couple of meat entrees as well. All meals came with a starch and steamed vegetables. My server was new, being coached by another staff member from afar.I had a caprese salad to start. The arugula was wilty and the tomatoes were chopped very small. There was no basil to be found! I ordered a blueberry basil drink but again, no basil! The rolls were delicious! As well as the spread and dip.My entree was swordfish, blackened with orange butter. It was an ample size and it was flavorful. It came with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. Over all, the presentation was good. There may be complaints about the large amount of orange butter as my potatoes were disintegrating! But they tasted fine to me. More...
Absolutely amazing!!Refreshing!!Service was seriously the best we have had in years.. balanced, thoughtful and perfect in timing..The fish was exceptionally fresh, cooked perfectly. Calamari appetizer is highly recommended!!Veggies were undercooked to my liking, but everyone has a preference .This is a hidden GEM, a super great restaurant! Hope to go back often!! Its well worth it!! More...

Excellent food and service
Best seafood I ever had! I am gluten free and they had a steamed fish that was awesome!!!
Surprised by the quality and value that I encountered. Food and specialty cocktail was excellent and it was probably the most friendly place I have visited in a long time. They should win some type of customer service award. The food was the real winner and I would recommend eating here if you have the opportunity. More...
Me and a buddy were in the Gulf Gate area of Sarasota today and felt like having seafood for lunch. I'd driven by but had never eaten at Off the Hook. It was about mid afternoon and lunch was only available on the Market side of the restaurant. There were a few folks there, but it was rather quiet. It looks like they're hiring and the manager was quite busy it seemed doing most everything, but he handled it quite well. In any case, I had cashew encrusted mahi, over soba noodles in a coconut curry sauce. It was a bit sweet, which is to my liking, and the fish was cooked just right and I couldn't have enjoyed it more. My buddy had a good-looking shrimp po boy sandwich that he said was very good. My lunch, which was on special, was $12. What a steal. I'll be going back. More...
Great food. Everything from the appetizer, the OTH combo to the bread with oil and garlic and aioli dipping sauces. Love the concept of choosing your fish and then the preparation. My swordfish was expertly prepared. It was flaky, flavorful and easily peeled from the skin. Entrees come with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Amazingly both were stand outs. I say this because I routinely get vegetables that are either over or undercooked. While they make good use of the space and the decor matches the concept, you are still in a strip mall. It was a bit noisier than I like for dinner. This should be a five star restaurant but the service was pleasant but very unprofessional. We actually removed used items from our table ourselves. We were at a two top so it's important to keep space available. We had to direct our waiter more often than should be necessary. Would probably go back again, but please try a little harder ,guys! More...
Because of the reviews here, we had high hopes of a great meal, unfortunately that was not to be. The restaurant was very hot inside, like did not pay the electricity bill hot. The mashed potatoes were instant and when I ordered flounder I got some other white fish that tasted as though it had been frozen. My wife got shrimp and grits, and while ok, you'd be FAR better off to convince her to make you her version. All in all not worth the price or disappointment. More...
This place is excellent. One of the best seafood places I've ever been to and I'm from New England so I think that gives me some credibility? We had the chef's recommended fish from Italy and the blackened halibut with orange butter sauce. Unbelievable. Also great cocktail/beer selection and really good group of guys/girls working hard at this place. Highly recommend! More...
Fresh and tasty fish prepared any which way you like. Only thing better than the food is the service.
Great assortment of fresh fish. good service
We had a great time with friends here. The food was spectacular. Fresh and literally off the hook. The menu is today's catch with your choice of preparation. If you want a truly fun and unique experience this is your place. I look forward to returning and trying the rest of the catch. More...
Off the Hook expanded into the space previously occupied by Il Panificio next door. The Fish Market as it is called offers a casual menu and atmosphere compared with the original still operating next door.Unfortunately, our first time was not a good experience. Two of us ordered the O.T.H. Reuben made with a "pastrami salmon." After five minutes or so, the server came back and told us they were out, but they still brought the salad they planned to split with the Reuben. Having to change their order mid-meal, they opted to split the spring rolls which turned out to have almost no filling and tasted of wrapper and frying oil.We split the bill. As we were signing the check, we noticed they still charged us for the Reuben. Since the server was unable to remove it from our processed charges, she offered for us to deduct it from her tip. Since we would not punish her for this problem, we paid for the sandwich we didn't get and the spring rolls which were inedible. She did comp a few beers, but we would have preferred a better experience over getting a couple free beers.I don't like to pass judgment on a single visit, but it will likely be a long time before we make it back here again. Exceptional fish and preparation!! Very fresh and delicious. Nice interior design including very cool fish sculptures in fish market, very very nice and attentive service. A new go to for us, a find!
I have been wanting to try this place for a couple of years and recently went for lunch. The food was not only awful (all three dishes we ordered), but the prices are too high. My girlfriend and I discovered Off The Hook quite by accident.Service by experienced staff, very helpful information for my "gluten-free" friend and the fish was extraordinary. They did not carry any of my wine preferences but after two small tastes, the owner hit on a perfect substitute. We plan to introduce the rest of our card group to this restaurant soon. Came on a Sunday afternoon. The vibe was fabulous with Bob Marley playing and the glass doors slid open. Tyler, our waiter, was very doting bringing extra ice and refills on ice tea. For a delicious, unhurried seafood experience- this was exquisite! The food was delicious and awesome seafood. You choose the way to prepare and the restaurant offers up the fresh fish. Location is on corner of busy street- so be prepared for road traffic if eating outside. Nice wait staff. Good selection of beer and wine. Dinner in the 23-26$ range. More...
I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars for the food only. I called ahead and asked if they had any available tables for 2 and was told no that they had a full house. So we went to another restaurant near by and we decided not to stay. We noticed Off the Hook was the next block over so we decided to check it out. We had just called less than 5 min before and found many empty tables. I asked for a table outside and was told it would be next to a table of 12 and be at a high top table. So we took the table inside. Shortly after another couple came in and were seated outside and the so called party of 12 never arrived. The host wasn't friendly and the waiters were rushing around, one was literally running around in circles. There is a small board on each table with the selection of fish. The preparation and sauce were different prices which doesn't make sense. You could have black sea bass for the same price as mussels. I had the salmon chowder that was mostly large chucks of potato. Everything needed salt & pepper. More...
The service at this restaurant is awful! We waited for anyone to wait on us and when they did, they had two menus for us to look at and we were a party of nine. They got my order wrong and when I did get the fish tacos they were not good. I do not see how this restaurant gets four stars. Do not go here! More...

Everything! Excellent service. Friendly staff. Food is awesome!
Stopped in for a late lunch on Monday, so no issues with crowds or service. I loved the fish tacos with Mahi Mahi fish tacos with Pineapple Bourbon B.B.Q., And "Of The Hook" Slaw. French Fries on the side were great. My husband had the fish chips and was able to get the fish grilled which was a nice healthy option, but it only included one piece of fish, so he was disappointed. He enjoyed the Caesar salad too. Great food. Nice atmosphere. Perfect place to sit outside and get lunch.
It was our first time; great drinks, food, and service. The night we were there the fish selection was Mahi Mahi, Salmon, and striped bass. A person in our party was hoping for grouper. So that was a bit disappointing. Our table ordered the Mahi Mahi and Salmon ~ all were delicious. So many preparation options. The flavors were well balanced and fresh. The bread & the spreads were really good too. We will definitely be coming back. More...
We have dined here many times, but last night was our last. After making reservations two weeks ago, we show up expecting to sit in the original dining room, but are quickly shuffled into the fish market. When questioning this, we were told we have to request the original area when we make a reservation. How would a person know this, it is not posted anywhere or were we told when they confirmed our reservation. We sat in the fish market for 15 minutes, staff walking past us like we were invisible. Service was terrible and we were very embarrassed that we had selected this place for our out of town guests after bragging about it. The food was so disappointing as well, and it should never take 15 more minutes to get a cocktail. More...

Had dinner here last night, started off pretty poorly but the service is what kept them at a 3 star. Drinks were pretty horrible. I mean, I ordered a dirty martini and that wasn't even made right after sending it back twice. I was embarrassed to say that it was still just not right, again. They have specialty drinks that my brother and sister in law said were just gross. Appetizers were bland. Entrees were pretty good. In my option, it is a little over priced. Service was terrific and wait staff was great. More...

Call ahead, make a reservation. Or not, there were some empty tables when my friends and I got there at 8 pm on a Tuesday night. Excellent service, delicious warm bread with super good sun-dried tomato butter and a vampire killer garlic olive oil dip.I got the sea bass, Mediterranean style. We really enjoyed our meal. If you are looking for fresh fish this is the place! I love how u can pair up your fish of choice with the many sauces offered, how can u not find something? Unless u don't like fish Service was very friendly and efficient. I would say the only downside is that it is extremely loud and the seating is very uncomfortable but the food is worth it. More...
The fish is excellent but don't come hungry as the servings are small. Everyone in our group including the ladies completely cleaned their plates including the vegetables and starch. The after dinner comments were positive but everyone was looking for more to eat. At $30 a plate you should not leave hungry.Very different pricing - they tell you what types of fish are available and the price depends how you want it prepared. It doesn't make much sense to me that Black Grouper served Oscar style is same price as Amberjack served Oscar style. Grouper costs about twice as much per pound than the amberjack. The restaurant ambience is okay in the outside seating . Inside seating is the same as when it was a combination deli and pizza place- very basic. More...
Great ambiance, excellent fresh seafood and nice presentation. When we arrived to a barely half full restaurant we asked better service at table as we like to sit at bar and were told the service was best everywhere. We ordered a bottle of wine and the waiter was such in a hurry to take our food order he said I will put food order in and then serve the wine. He then went on take more food orders from other tables, finally opened our bottle of wine and sat it off to our left, answered the phone, after a few minutes I grabbed the bottle and poured it and our food was served at the same time. I asked for double veggies no mashed potatoes, when I told the person who served us he acted put out, it came corrected but the fish had cooled off. The table behind us was served another tables entries. Could easily be a five star experience but the service was one misstep after another. Maybe an off night, short staffed but overall disappointed in what could be one of our favorite's in Sarasota as we eat out most nights. More...
First time there. Ambiance is cool. Wait staff was very knowledgeable of the menu and a great help when making our selections. Our meals were outstanding! I had set my expectations were not high and so I was blown away by the food. My only reason for not giving five stars was the male bartender was not impressive Drinks were okay but not great. That was a big disappointment. We will go there again because everyone has an off night once in a while. More...

Food and service are amazing! The fish is always fresh and the pairings are phenomenal.
Fresh fish with many daily choices. The fish is perfectly cooked to order and the sides are simple but well prepared. The room has a cool modern feel in this local gem.
Off the Hook was great! Came here on a Saturday night with no reservation. The main restaurant was booked, but they had "overflow" seating in the space next door and we were able to grab a table for two outdoors. They had tiki torches and it was a nice and quiet atmosphere.I had the snapper Mediterranean style. It was light and fresh tasting. My dining partner had the sea bass with risotto, asparagus, chives and aged balsalmic. We both loved our dishes!I would recommend making a reservation, as I think we got lucky. We will be back! The best food and service in Sarasota. Period.
Very slow service...only two staff working and packed house. Took 1.5 hours to get food sitting at bar. We had a marvelous meal here while celebrating my birthday. The restaurant has a unique concept, they offer fresh catch of the day and then various ways it can be prepared. Highly recommend a visit. More...
Wanted to try this place for a long time. Ate later than we usually do and only one other table was occupied. First impression was not very welcoming. The wait staff seemed inconvenienced. We have been going here since they opened. Always good, delicious, and super fresh seafood. This night was only different in that the everything was heightened. It was nice that it’s still slow season, busy but not chaotic. We sat at the bar tonight and our server/bartender, J, was knowledgeable and passionate. My husband and I came into this restaurant this evening at about 7:20PM Hoping to have a delicious meal; it was our first time dining with Off The Hook. When we were greeted by the wait staff we were told that they were offering three different types of fish: hog snapper, grouper and triple tail. By the time we were ready to order at 7:40 we were informed that they ran out of two of the three fish. We were planning on having the red snapper which they no longer had. They have the best Grouper in Sarasota! I had the BBQ Bourbon Grouper last time, it’s to die for.
The best preparation of fish in town. Fresh catch as well.
One of the few places around that often has amberjack
GOOD EVENING, great food
Outstanding! Small space with excellent food, great service, and a really good beer and wine selection.
We only had appetizers consisting of their crab roll, coconut shrimp and Caesar salads. Everything was top notch.Their dinners looked very appealing, but higher price. We ate outside because we had our pets with us, therefore, the ambiance was poor. I would definitely suggest eating inside. The service was excellent. More...
Well prepared fresh fish, a variety of sauces to have it with, delicious sides to eat with it, very healthy. I was very pleased with my first experience and will be back
Very good food, great service and help from Phil. Fun and inviting atmosphere, would definitely recommend to eat.
Good sea food
Here is a place that knows how to cook fish properly. Casual and a little loud but if you have been looking for a restaurant that doesn't over cook fish do not miss Off The Hook.
Great service, spectacular food! Some of the best fish dishes in town. They are fresh, flavorful and so many options! (FYI - their shrimp and grits appetizer, and gazpacho are must haves!)
We not only had great service and smazing food but the staff is as friendly as if your family. We have recommended this place to several people We will be back next trip to Siesta key.
Loved dining at "Off the Hook" ....Excellent food, outstanding service! Can't wait to go back again!
Found OFF THE HOOK by googling seafood restaurants near me after a long afternoon of car shopping. Had the best rating (4.5 stars) of the 3 that came up. Well 2, cuz Red Lobster doesn't even belong in that category. Was greeted outside by a beautiful Lexi pruning the wonderful morning glory privacy wall that she has created for her guests to enjoy outside dining, which is cleverly placed between tables and parking lot. Needless to say, we chose to sit outside. My husband and I, along with my daughter, enjoyed calamari, crab roll, crab cakes, caprese salad, fresh made bread, all accompanied with fresh made sauces, dressings, and my favorite tomato basil spread. That was just the appetizers which were very generously priced (all that was included with 3 separate apps that came to ~$23)The main courses were a little more pricey ~22/chicken, ~$25-$30 for the filet mignon or any of the variety of fresh daily seafood choices. Today was fresh swordfish, which was brought in whole from MA today, Black Grouper, or Red Snapper. My husband had the swordfish, my daughter, the Grouper, both Mediterranean style, and I the Grouper which I chose the Cashew Crusted option served with soba noodles and a magnificent Coconut Curry glaze. I don't know how, but we finished with the bread pudding (WOW!) and 2 Key Lime desserts (all handmade by the most wonderful and creative chef in Sarasota) . I will end by saying everything was amazing and being from Massachusetts, in the 12+ years of being in Florida, I have not had one good thing to say about the seafood.... until now. Thank you Lexi and Phil for re-igniting a long lost passion for great seafood. P.s. the pic of menu is for "Savor Sarasota 2018" June 1st-30th, which I will most definitely be coming back for. The current menu is just as amazing with different dessertsMore pics to follow next time and more on their beautiful selection of wine from Off the Hooks very own "modern" wine cellar More...

Outstanding small, chef owned restaurant. Excellent good and service. Friday funny location but worth the visit.
Great fresh fish selections with an almost overwhelming amount of options that the fish can be prepared! The appetizers were delicious as well. The desert portions were great, but on the small side. More...
Food was excellent...service very slow.
Our server was so nice, knowledgeable, helpful and accommodating. The cocktails we're delicious, the food was great. We had a carrot cake cupcake for dessert that was worth EVERY calorie.
Great food, excellent service.
Came in for savor sarasota in June. Everything exceeded my expectations. The seafood was extremely fresh and well prepared. The bartender/server was very knowledgeable and made a lot of helpful recommendations. We started off with the seared scallop, salmon dumpling, cauliflower bites and the salmon chowder. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the seared scallop - it was incredibly tender and the balsamic glaze really complemented the flavor of the scallop. I loved all the starters and would recommend any of them.I dont recall which fish I ordered for the main course (they have seasonal offerings) but it was cashew crusted on a bed of noodles with steamed vegetables and coconut curry and it was delightful.Dessert was Raspberry cheesecake with lemon curd. (The only dish I manage to get a picture of before devouring) I'm pretty sure this cheesecake proposed to me while I was eating it... and I said yes. More...

Great food, and excellent "make you feel special" service ! Would go back for sure only down part appetizer trio needs a lil different twist ... maybe a combo of choices include orange butter recipe in some form for that to meet other standards. More...
First time here, and we live in Gulf Gate. Best fish in town period. End of story. 5-7 fresh caught selections to choose from daily then pick how you want it prepared. I went with yellow grouper prepared Mediterranean style. Also their gazpacho was amazing. Server was very attentive and extremely helpful with her suggestions. We have a vacation rental business and definitely recommend to those looking for the best seafood place. More...

Best place in SRQ for fresh catch seafood! Excellent customer service in a clean and classy environment. Highly recommend this venue.
We had dinner here based on a recommendation from our Airbnb owner, it was during taste of Sarasota. Course after course did not disappoint. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and made the perfect recommendations. Additionally the wine pairing was perfect. We could not decide between two types and the server brought us samples to help us decide. Our first course was a perfect sample of fresh seasonal seafood. Our main dishes were fresh catches that were perfectly prepared in a presentation of our choice. I enjoyed the blackened grouper served with orange butter. I am not normally a fan of blackened but this was a perfect preparation. Some slight spice, not salty, and not a thick charred crust. The orange butter made the dish though, I was expecting orange marmalade mixed in butter. Instead I got a creamy citrusy sauce that complimented the fish very well. If you are in Siesta Key I highly recommend driving over the bridge to check this place out. More...
The food was phenomenal and the service was stellar! I'd been meaning to trying this place for years and I'm so glad I finally did! WOW, what a treat. They were offering choices from the Savor Sarasota menu and everything looked so delicious, I asked our waiter, Phillip, to help with recommendations. He was very informative and hit the nail on the head! I put up photos with Cashew crusted shrimp, seared scallop, cauliflower bites, blackened grouper, Mediterranean Amberjack, carrot cake and bread pudding. All phenomenal!! Definitely will be returning! More...
Food was amazing & the service was excellent! We came in late from watching the sunset on the beach (don’t normally dine 30 min before closing but we were famished) and the waiter didn’t skip a beat.. the food was hot and fresh and they let my boyfriend and I enjoy his birthday dinner way past closing time which was very appreciated! The art decor in the restaurant was beautiful, overall a great experience! More...
What a gem! Bf and I visited during Savour Sarasota and were able to try 4 appetizers (single portions) with 2 entrees. We were given 3 fresh catxhes and the choice of over 7 preperations styles. Seriously AMAZING textures, flavors, and service! I wish there were 6 STARS! Bravo! More...

I'm so glad we gave this place a try ! My only complaint is we haven't tried it sooner ... We had Triple Tail. I had mine with lemongrass and my husband had his blackened with the Orange sauce and both were unreal ! Our apps were also fantastic ! We had the crab cakes and salad to start. They also had awesome craft cocktails which I'm very picky about but fresh and tasty ! I had the bramble .. for dessert I had their cheesecake and out of this world. We can't wait to go back since we live to close. More...

Nothing's ever perfect, but this was my favorite Savor Sarasota try. To make it perfect, the noise level would need to come down. I'm not sure how they could accomplish that but we're definitely returning. More...
This was a favorite place of ours but tonight it seemed like everything changed. There were all nee staff and some didn't know how to greet guests and others seemed new in their jobs. Good food but atmosphere definitely not as good. More...
Ordinary seafood, not well plated, overdone appetizers. We had the salmon picatta - salmon cooked nicely but it needed some herbs. Picatta sauce swam around the plate and into the mashed potatoes. Nothing imaginative with the potatoes, overcooked asparagas. Bread basket had a nice presentation and herbed butter.Desserts were pretty but nothing special.Might head back if we have company and we've been elsewhere.Decor - how many different people decorated this place -seaside seafood hut, surfer hut, fishing hut, upscale lodo look.I'd suggest removing all the extra metal art and going for the lodo look. Four of us went to dinner last night, the service excellent, the food was exceptional with great flavors. We ordered off the Savor Sarasota menu, great choices but portions very smell. I ordered the salmon Mediterranean and had about 4 bites off fish. I have been around food most of my life, I am sure there plate cost on this meal could not have been more than $3.00...so bottom line, great food but small portions, I went away hungry... More...
I brought my wife to this place to sample the Savor Sarasota menu. She had the Amberjack entree in Mediterranean sauce. I had the red snapper, also in Mediterranean sauce, and they were both delicious. Everything we tasted including appetizers and dessert was very good. Stephen, our waiter, was very attentive. We will definitely return! More...
Excellent food and service! Always a great place to dine.
Not bad not exceptional in any way either. Service was odd. Party of two server could not remember a single thing as to who ordered what (appetizers, drinks, entree, dessert).
Not really that good. Average food. Every seafood. Price is a little too high. I think you can go to the seafood store buy your own stuff and make it just as good in your condo
Atmosphere was nice. Service was good. Food was horrible. My crab cakes were pure mush. My husband’s pasta was soaked in oil.
WOW! Pick your fish from the Fresh of the Day- halibut, salmon, snapper, grouper just to begin, how you like it cooked from the extended list such as Oscar (Hollandaise made from scratch) or Picatta (many other styles available) and have a cocktail with house made bread w/ sun dried tomato butter while waiting. Entrees served with fresh mashed potatoes and a fresh NOT frozen veggie medley cooked just right. Top that off with a yummy bread pudding I've never tasted so good before and you've had a marvelous dinner you didn't expect! Phil was excellent waiting on us and the atmosphere well, but not overly, done. More...
We came here with my mother in law for dinner on a Friday night at 5pm. We were able to get a table right away. The ambiance is cool and casual yet modern and fun. We had the oysters for an appetizer. I like my oysters raw but these were flash fried. We wanted to try it. The top coating was tasty but the bottoms were wet and a bit soggy. They didn't have much flavor but the sauce it comes with added to it. The dinner menu is fun and very different. You choose the fish they have for the day and can have it different ways. I had the scallops with the Tomato Tarragon sauce. It came with risotto, asparagus and tomatoes in a nice sauce. The scallops were cooked perfectly as was the risotto. The sauce was a perfect accompaniment to the scallops. My mother in law had the grouper with the Tomato Tarragon sauce also. The fish was cooked perfectly. My husband had the filet mignon. It was cooked a bit more than he preferred but it was tasty nonetheless. The service was impeccable and our glasses never went empty. I kept saying that the music was great as well! We would definitely recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a fun vibe with great food. More...
This place just made my top of the seafood list.Funky Chicago city feel; light, and blues and white colors. A small bar, great, friendly service.Order any fresh fish and select a preparation - priced according to the preparation. My family have tried many restaurants on vacation and this one was a top 5 in the area. We had the pompano piccata which is what the wonderful server suggested. It was delicious and I would order that again. We all shared the Key Lime pie that was outstanding. We were able to make reservations which added to the enjoyable evening. I will definitely visit “off the hook” again. It was a “10” More...
We found this place thanks to yelp after being turned away for not having reservations at another local "highly rated" restaurant, while on vacation with our children. We didn't have reservations but they quickly accommodated us at their patio/sidewalk tables. We had a nice dinner experience. Our server, Chelsea and the host were very friendly. We ordered the grouper and amber jack both prepared with the tomato tarragon risotto and the grey tile prepared with a piccata sauce. The kids had chicken tenders, fresh and delicious, and pasta with marinara. Everything we had was delicious! The grey tile with piccata was to die for! My husband couldn't get enough of the amber jack in the tomato tarragon. We didn't try dessert because the kids were dying to go to the ice cream shop but next time we are in town we definitely will. We didn't have noise issues since we were outside. It was a little chilly but okay with jackets. The prices are adequate with the quality of food you get. We highly recommend this excellent seafood restaurant! More...
We were going to have pizza next door when we decided to try Off The Hook Seafood instead. A great choice. The restaurant is in an old car dealership in a strip mall. The decor is basic but the food is outstanding. The service was very good and the fish was perfectly cooked. We'll certainly be back the next time we're in the area. Give it a try - you WON'T be disappointed. More...
I had high expectations for Off the Hook based on comments in this app. The Rockefeller sauce topping on my tile was way too strong and made the fish seem tasteless. Had the sauce been baked together with the fish, instead of served as a mere topping, the two might have blended flavors to a better effect. Coated, deep fried oysters topped the fish. They were so overcooked that they had the consistency of rubber bands. They were impossible to chew and formed huge lumps in my mouth that I had to spit into a napkin. My companion said her blackened red snapper was swimming in butter and had some dark spices sprinkled on top. Not what one expects with a blackened fish. She said she felt queasy for about 15 minutes after the meal. More...
Another fantastic meal. Great local seafood and a wonderful wait staff. The fish is the freshest, presentation is astonishing and the chef deserves an extra star.

Wow!! Made reservations Fri night. .when we arrived the waitress/ hostess was extremely nice! Ordered a craft coctail! My husband ordered. Baccardi & Coke waited 20 minutes no drink!!! Only one other table in the place. We asked the waitress after 20 min where are our drinks? Said sorry & yes it has been a long time. & will ck on it! Overheard the bartender telling her , make sure u tell customers craft cocktails take a long time!! She came back to us & apologized I told her forget the craft cocktail just bring me a pino grigio. She brought that out, but guess what still no Bacardi for my hisband & still no patrons in the place!! Finally after 30 min ofNo drinks & a lot ofFrustration we left $10 for my wine & walked out!! Good food , worse than lousy service!! Too bad'n shame on them !!! Too may good restaurants in the area to have a bad experience like we had!! The frustrating part was the bartender was not doing ANYTHING!! If he were busy I would have understood! The waitress did not understand the very long wait either!! And said so! If u have a bar, have a qualified bartender! He is just as important as the chef! Hope they correct this very obvious problem because they have good food!! More...
I'm with Joyce. What a whirlwind! We had early reservations and there were only a few tables seated upon arrival. Our server was friendly. Cocktails were very good as were the appetizers. But before I had even finished my mussels our entrees were being served. I was halfway finished before we got our wine. My husband meals was excellent. Mine could have been but it was swimming in water from the veggies. The water diluted the hollandaise and invaded the mashed potatoes. Disappointing. Dessert was excellent but by then we were frustrated and the place was crowded and very noisy. Returned on 2/16/19 with family. Still disappointed. Food is very good BUT we ordered a bottle of wine off the featured specials list. After an inordinate amount of time our server returned to tell us they didn't have it. Getting something else took a lifetime. Never let us know the daily fish or specials while we were waiting so it to forever to get an order placed. Noise level is deafening. For me, the good food isn't worth it. More...

We live in Gulf gate and this was our first time dining experience at off the hook . I can say nothing but good things about the food and the service. it was absolutely wonderful
Great food, a bit expensive but good over all. Great service
The food is excellent. I ordered the red snapper with crab stuffing and my friend had the tile fish Oscar style. Our drinks were great too!

Excellent food, great service! Interesting menu; two of us chose a special, which was delicious. Restaurant is loud, but we got a corner table which ameliorated the noise level somewhat. We will definitely be back!
I only ever write a review when it's warranted....Stumbled on this by chance when in gulf gate. Thought the bar looked nice for a drink. Wasn't expecting to eat. Boy, am I glad I did. From the freshly cooked bread with special butter (infused with sun dried tomatoes and basil) to the selection of fresh fish. I had the mussels with white wine while my husband had the amberjack with the piccata sauce. Delicious.... the mashed potatoes! He remarked his mother would die for them...... so reasonable for fresh fish and the barman and staff relaxed and friendly ... just the way we like them! More...

Best fish in Sarasota. Staff is fabulous as well.
Daily catches of the day available with the chef's signature recipes. Amazing! Best, freshest seafood with many dish options. Will be back!
This chef really respects the ingredients. Where possible, the fish is local (the Gulf of Mexico). If not local, then from the best possible source (oysters-PEI, salmon-Scottish). Sauces are amazing. Service is impeccable. Our party of four loved everything that was placed on our table. We will return. More...
The food and service is amazing. Definitely order the shrimp and grits. All of our fish entres were cooked perfectly. Nice selection of craft cocktails.

Our first time there! Excellent, very fresh, the pouboy crab in a roll appy was to die for!! We will be back! Everyone is very nice and informative there!!
I would like to tell you what the food tasted like but a pompous ass at the door who looked just like Mitchell on Modern Family informed me that we had to eat at the bar. The restaurant was EMPTY except for an old dude at the bar drinking a martini. I was staring at the hostess book and they had four reservations Wow how does one stay in business being that demanding Any who I would screw Al-qaeda before I'd come back to this place. Too many great restaurants in town to be treated like a third world illegal. More...
What a disappointment. First let me say, we had the nicest waitress. When we sat down and asked about the espresso martini, the bartender overheard and said they were out. The waitress said that they have NEVER had them. When we asked why, she said it was because no one knew how to use the Nespresso machine. I ordered a dinner salad and the fried oyster appetizer for my entree. The salad came and looked like it had slid off the tray and when it was placed in front of me (not by the waitress), it had so much wilted old lettuce I asked for a new one. I was shocked that they would actually let it go out of the kitchen. When the oysters came, they were on a plate floating in grease. It was obvious that the kitchen didn't drain them before putting them on the plate. I used my cocktail napkin to absorb the grease, but they were so unappetizing, they went untouched. My husband's dinner was good, broiled daily catch, but we won't be going back. I felt very sorry for the waitress. She still got a good tip, but the kitchen should be ashamed. More...
From the craft cocktails to the main courses: superb!Great craft cocktails, made the way they are supposed to be. The daiquiri is like no other I've tried - NOT a sweet and watered down mess here - refreshing and tart. The old fashioned, with house aged bourbon, was also excellent. Come hungry and start with the bread basket - best I've had in quite some time. The crab roll appetizer is wonderful and could easily morph into a meal with a few extras. It is a fried bun with hot crab meat in it and melted butter to spoon on or dip in. I was thinking some crab rolled in rice and was very pleasantly surprised. The have several fresh seafood selections that rotate based upon availability and a fixed set of about a dozen ways they each can be prepared. The diver scallops made piccata style were wonderful. The fish (missed what kind) prepared Mediterranean style was also very good. The potatoes, by themselves, could have used a bit more seasoning, but with the entree balanced it out nicely. The only off note were the vegetables - they seemed to be a bit over cooked to me. More...

Delish! Had swordfish, blackened with orange butter. Had I not been with my elderly mother I would have ordered wine . Really happy with the food, presentation and decor at this gem of a restaurant featuring the freshest seafood. Visited during Savor Sarasota, offering 3 courses for $32. Artfully prepared grouper with artichokes, tomatoes and risotto was scrumptious. Our server Stephen was attentive and knowledgeable. We found this restaurant using Yelp! After looking at the menu I was a bit skeptical, as we had 2 kids with us. I wasn't sure there would be anything they would eat. However, our server came over and explained the menu. She told the girls that if there wasn't anything on the menu they wanted the chef could prepare something off the menu (chicken tenders, pasta with red or cream sauce, fried shrimp...). The food was great. We started with a crab roll and crab/shrimp cakes. I really liked the thin breading on the crab cakes, and that it wasn't deep fried. We both had red snapper prepared differently, but both were excellent. I wasn't crazy about the mashed potatoes, but I wasn't there for mashed potatoes:) The girls both had pasta with cream sauce and it was good. For dessert we had bread pudding and flourless chocolate cake along with coffee. It was all wonderful. Definitely a great find in a touristy town. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone I know visiting Siesta Keys area. More...
We went to off the hook tonight with a group of approximately 20 people. We were a bit misled about the type of restaurant (not by the restaurant, by yelp) it really is NOT a moderately priced place to bring a baseball team. But, that said, I thought the food was delicious and the service was impeccable. We called ahead and told them what to expect and they were ready for us. They explained the menus to everyone and all of the boys found something that they wanted to try. My 17-year-old probably thought this place was too fancy, but my 8 year had chicken fingers and pasta and thought it was delicious. I had the crab cake appetizer followed by Tile fish cooked Mediterranean-style. Both were delicious and the portion size was perfect. Tile fish is white and has a crab meat kind of texture. My dessert, which was included in their Sarasota saver meal, soon followed. I had the Apple crème brûlée. I thought it was very good. I also tasted the lemon grass crème brûlée and thought it was good as well. I would definitely recommend this place for couples, or for a group of couples going out to eat together. One other thing, the appetizer, entrée and dessert were sold as a package, for $32. Not exactly what I would call $$ but totally worth the prices! More...

The fish was good, but not great, a bit bland. I ordered the margate with Mediterranean sauce. Not chock full of flavor, but ok, considering I don't know many fabulous fish restaurants in Sarasota. It came with mashed potatoes & a veg combo that was a bit watery. The gazpacho was ok, but my own recipe has much more flavor. My spouse had the margate crusted in cashew on top of soba noodles that were way too sweet- an odd flavor.I'll probably give it another try since, as I said, I don't know where to go for fresh fish here that consistently pleases me. I'm struggling with 3-4 stars here. It is Savor Sarasota time and you'd think that a limited menu would mean that they'd excel at all of the items provided. I had the crab cake appetizer and flourless chocolate cake and they were delightful, but the entree was severely lacking. I had margate "Oscar style." The crab was delicious, the hollandaise creamy, but the fish had zero flavor. Not a hint of any seasoning, even salt and pepper. I tried to pair the sauce, crab, and fish, but the flavor of the sauce and crab was muted by the extremely bland fish. The service was average and unenthusiastic, so I don't know that I'll be back. Kind of bummed because the first visit a couple of years ago was a 5-star. More...
Seriously this was a spur of the moment pick in Gulf Gate. This place is amazing went out for drinks and desert. Top notch. Was surprised on how nice this place was because the area mostly dive bars, this place way beyond better. I had a slice of cheesecake it was so large came with its own carving knife. Great seafood with a different concept. The menu is written with several different types of fish preparations. The seafood choice varies from visit to visit so I've never had the same thing twice! My wife and I had dinner at Off The Hook in May 2017. We had a terrific server and great meal. The fish is fresh and perfectly cooked. We really enjoyed it. Highly recommend. More...

Amazing! They have a choice of 3 fresh catches of the day. Then you choose the style you want it prepared. My husband and I both ordered the golden tilefish. I ordered mine 'Mediterranean' style and my husband ordered 'cashew crusted'. Both were absolutely delicious!!! We also topped off our meal with the house made cheesecake. Yummo!!! I cannot say enough good things. Our server was also a total delight!! Highly recommended More...
Shrimp and grits appetizer was yummy! Tile fish was very good. You get to pick which fish you want then how you want it cooked. I had mine Oscar and others in party had Rockefeller and Mediterranean style. All were very good! They offer wine pairings for $24/bottle. We will definitely be back! Our server Steven was very knowledgeable! More...
Amazing fresh fish, staff was super nice. So glad we came here. Asked the waiter Steven for recommendations and he was insightful and knowledgeable on the menu. Kept checking on us and made sure our drinks were full. Nice ambiance in the restaurant. Definitely coming back More...
One of our best restaurant experiences ever in Sarasota. The shrimp and grits with the two fried or Easters as an appetizer was as good as it gets. All of the earlier reviews on the fried oysters and the shrimp and grits are totally accurate. We had the wahoo and crabcakes for our main courses and they were equally wonderful. On top of all of this our server Stephen was perfectly attentive with not being overbearing and with a great personality and Service above and beyond the call of duty. I can't recommend this place highly enough. More...
Best seafood in sarasota. Chef Wes know his fish and the preparations are incredible. We were a party of 5 Friday. We each had different preparations of fresh halibut. Just flown in from Norway. Great!! I don't know which I liked best but we all agreed best seafood we've eaten. Very reasonable for what you get. Kinda groovy place. More...
Always make a point to eat here when we are in Sarasota. Great fresh seafood and service. From starters (Gazpacho, shrimp& grits), to the fresh fish of the evening, this is a place you must visit! Unique menu as you are given multiple pairing/sauces/toppings to accompany your selected fish.Haven't tried dessert here yet as we are generally stuffed by the end!!In Gulf Gate section of Sarasota. A must!!! More...
Highly recommended. They have a few catches of the day and the pricing is based mostly on the preparation. I had cashew crusted halibut with soba noodles, and it was amazing. My toddler had chicken strips and fries that were also good by grown-up standards. Scallops in the appetizer were just the right consistency too. Our waiter highly recommended the cheesecake and it lived up to the billing, but the limoncello cake certainly gave it a run for its money. We arrived at about 5:00 on a Tuesday and there was no wait. I hope you like it as much as we did! More...
My husband and I really enjoyed our dinner food wise at Off the Hook, there were just some things that were... a bit strange on the experience side that made me drop this from a 5 to a 4. First things first - MAKE A RESERVATION. We saw multiple people turned away at the door because they didn't have one. We arrived for our dinner reservation 2 minutes early to an almost empty restaurant. There was just a table of 8 or so and a table of four. We were way early for the dinner rush, but we were seated at a very tiny 2 top table. I cannot emphasize how TINY this table is enough. You'll understand why soon. We were seated and told our waiter would be right with us. 10 minutes later - still no waiter. So the guy who seated us told us he'd have to be our waiter. This man was very, very polite (until he took my order), but still in a near empty restaurant with 4 clear staff members standing at the bar or waiting on the 2 only tables in the restaurant it was a bit odd that we waited so long to even be offered a beverage. 2nd if you are not familiar with this restaurant, which we were not, they have appetizers that are ordered like any app you'd get at a restaurant. But the main dishes have preparations that you can pair with any of their fresh catches of the day. They told us the fresh catches, left us with a GINORMOUS BREAD BASKET, a bottle of water, a bread plate, 2 giant utensil rolls, all of the typical accouterments like salt, pepper, sugar, our water glasses and the two very large menus, and a very large drink menu to peruse while we made our choices. During this time, we nearly knocked over the water, the bread, our utensils, the glasses, and then they brought the drink glasses for the drinks we ordered so between all of the shit on the table - we had to hold the GIANT menu up close to our faces so not to disrupt anything further on the table. Eventually someone came and moved our bread to the empty 4 top next to us, because they saw how much of a horrible struggle it was - but still, only two tables are filled... and we're seated at the tiniest 2 top ever imagined when there are four tops everywhere, unoccupied. So back to the menu, I wanted myself some snapper - I love red snapper, and I love blackened red snapper. Blackened red snapper is my favorite way to eat red snapper - so when I heard they had red snapper and blackened was one of their preparations I was STOKED. I'm from Cajun country - Cajuns STARTED the blackening trend. I am very familiar with a traditional blacken. I have Chef Paul Prudhomme's cookbook for christ's sake. You know what kind of fish Cajuns like to blacken the most? Red Snapper. So I ordered it. But I was then told for the next 10 minutes why my choice was a horrible one by the waiter because of the "preparation", and that I should make another choice, because it was a horrible one to pair the snapper with the blackened preparation... it was never explained to me what the blackened preparation was, the menu said the preparation was blackened with orange butter - sounded pretty simple to me. I love red snapper, and I love it blackened. But the waiter talked so long about how it was such a horrible decision, and that only simpletons would enjoy it, and I'm pretty sure I started tearing up at the table, because I was being told in such great detail why my favorite fish could not be prepared my favorite way that he eventually was like, well I guess we could blacken it, but do you like risotto? Let's put a blackened snapper on the risotto. It comes with [insert vegetables here] and asparagus. There is no vegetable on this green earth that I despise more than asparagus - so I said the blackened snapper on the risotto was fine if it didn't have the asparagus... Guess what it came out with... Have you figured it out yet? Yep - asparagus. My husband quickly took it off my plate, but you know asparagus it flavors anything it touches, so half of my plate was inedible for me. What I will say though is that the portion of my plate that was not touched by the asparagus was very, very, very delicious. The risotto was so delectable in its parmesan splendour and the blackened red snapper was just sublime - it really paired well with the risotto - So I'm glad the waiter suggested it, but I'd have been happier to not have it explained to me why blackened red snapper is an affront to society and all things holy.Hub's fish choice was not even questioned by the waiter, "yes sir. Such a great decision." And then at the end of the meal... we sat finished for 20 + minutes waiting for the waiter to come back to take away our plates and bring us the checks. Oh and by the way... by the time we left the restaurant... the 8 top was gone. The tables separated, and only two more couples had come in... however those couples were seated at the four tops. It's the little things. Like I LOVED the food, but the whole experience was just soooo bizarre. More...
Took visitors to Off the Hook Seafood last Sunday. Had wonderful seafood cooked to perfection. An interesting concept, multiple seafood choices, and multiple preparations. Mix and match. Don't worry that you'll make a poor match, the chef will not fix a poor match. So, try something new! More...
Best kept secret in Sarasota-great seafood at reasonable prices and friendly staff.Creative cocktails and winelist makes this a winner.Reservations a must during high season as they don't overbook and it is not a large restaurant. More...
Wonderful golden tile fish. Excellent service by Ross. Nice decor. Good music. Best seafood meal we had so far this visit to Sarasota.
Dinners and service was great. Wife had shrimp and linguini, the pasta did not have enough salt. Probably forgot to put salt in the water when they cooked it. Scallop appetizer was really great
Great dinner. You must try this place! I know this sounds like a fake review, but it isn't. Try the Downrigger cocktail ( a twist on an Old Fashioned with chocolate bitters!) and the shrimp n grits, changed up with fried oysters and a Rockefeller sauce. It's devine. Cashew crusted halibut was the entree and with a brown butter sauce it couldn't have been better. Excellent bread pudding for dessert. Total tab before a generous tip...$65. I've had worse fish for a lot more.If you're in the Siesta Key area, you owe it to your self to try this place. More...

I'm a local, but brought my mom here, who's visiting from MD, for dinner. Had a fantastic meal tonight - kudos to the chef! Food was literally "off the hook". I had the cashew-crusted red snapper and my mom had seared scallops. I would highly recommend this place for the atmosphere, the service (Judy, you were the bomb!) and the FOOD!!!! Even met the owner, Nick, who was personable and very interested in our opinions about the place. It was a lovely evening to sit outside & just what I needed after a tough week at work! Off the Hook Seafood is well worth it! More...
Off The Hook Seafood is a very "with it," "in" and hip type of restaurant not only in décor and atmosphere but in food offerings as well. Better yet, it's a very much Yelp friendly place, so do your Yelp check-in and receive a complimentary glass of wine along with your entrée order. As soon as I was seated I was given a bread basket and, though it came with a regular butter, it also had a super great tasting basil infused butter. Then, while enjoying a glass my Yelp check-in complimentary Malbec, I reviewed their menu which was not only well varied but contained a number of unique items. I also liked some of the ways in which it was set up. For example, I ordered what was merely listed as "Piccatta: Garlic, Capers, Lemon, White Wine Butter" but then I was able to order the same from five choices of fresh fish to be done Piccatta in style. Then when served I found my fish to have been perfectly done with a definitive freshness about it and the accompanying Piccatta sauces subtly enhance as opposed to domineering. Totally delicious. Maybe, to be downright blunt about it, it's because I'm old with typical old age hearing impediments, but I found the acoustics within Off The Hook Seafood to be horrid. There weren't all that many people there when I was there and I don't think any of them exceptionally loud though they ended up sounding loud. More...
Fabulous local gem! They offer several fresh catches & you choose your presentation which includes many interesting options. Tonite, hubs ordered the margate fish, an unfamiliar choice. He chose the Rockefeller presentation which included a fried oyster-delicious! BFF ordered scallops presented with artichokes & asparagus-she swooned...I requested local snapper encrusted with cashews & served with mild coconut curry plus soba noodles....incredibly yummy! Service delightful & flexible-we reserved at 7p outside but upon arrival asked for inside-no problem! Nice wine list, friendly service & fun atmosphere. Food came out in a reasonable time, hot & fresh! We were so full and happy and unfortunately no room for homemade bread pudding which we love! Highly recommend! As locals we will continue to return! Thank you for a jewel so close to home! More...
Fresh is good. Tasted 3 of the preparation themes...crusted cashew with curry...yes yes yes. Mussels shrimp and oysters as apps all good. Server Steve so nice . We went at 830 and sound inside a OK. Wine deal awesome too. More...
This restaurant could be great...but it's not. Nice atmosphere. But understaffed and inconsistent food. Our first visit a month ago had a few issues with erratic service but we let it go because the food was pretty good. This time we had a reservation. Our group of 4 was seated promptly but at a partially set table, which didn't get fully set for another 15 minutes including getting water poured. It took the first 10 minutes for a waitperson to even come to the table. And she told us there wasn't any clean silverware until they did some in the kitchen. There were several empty tables by this time in the restaurant that had mot been cleared. Another 20 minutes later we finally got our drink order because the bartender had been 'doubling' as a server and was often not behind the bar. Eventually the somewhat soggy salads arrived quite a while later and before we were finished with them the entrees arrived leaving us to cram everything on the table. All this after waiting more than an hour to get them in the first place. We noted that by this time the restaurant was fairly empty but the service remained sketchy and inattentive,as if our waitperson had no clue.Of the four entrees only one was completely disappointing, the crab cakes, described by our guest as full of filler and mushy. The three fresh fish entrees were fine but not very hot.Given our experience up to this point we decided to skip dessert. I'm all for leisurely dining but to walk in at 7:30 and not to be able to leave until 10:00 for no fault on our part is unforgivable. We wanted to like this place but after two attempts I don't think we'll return until we hear things have improved. At least get a bus person, a full time bartender and enough silverware. More...
Excellent, fresh fish "right off the boat" prepared in interesting ways. Try the cashew encrusted with curry sauce treatment or the shrimp & crab version. The coconut shrimp appetizer is great, too. Service is cheerful and responsive. More...
It was a whirlwind dinner. In at 7:30 and finished at 8:30. Ordered appetizers, mussels and gazpacho. While still eating our appetizers our main course came out. We asked why. Because "the restaurant is busy tonight" was the answer. We sent our 3 dinners back to rest under the heat lamp we presume. If we did not ask, they would have been left at the table. We had the margate snapper, an excellent flaky sweet fish, 2 prepared with the crushed cashews the other Mediterranean. Our table was next to the bar and a stand with glasses and where the waiters were placing orders. Oops a glass broken next to us. Luckily the person closest was wearing pants. The shards of glass were cleaned up quickly. Advice, stay away from this table, annoying having waiters and bus girl there continually.Service is NOT the strong suit of this restaurant. Nice food but rushed thru like they needed the table. Crazy when we left multiple tables were empty. Will we return? Don't know. We expected a leisurely meal what we got was two steps up from fast food. When we called about 4:45, did not remember if our reservation was for 7:00 or 7:30, the person that answered said they were too busy to take a reservation. No we had a reservation, just asking to confirm the time. That was a struggle to get that information.Need to hire new employees or a crash course in restaurant service/mgmt. More...

Found Off the Hook on google. Service was great and the good was fresh and tasty!!!
We try to eat seafood as often as possible when in Sarasota. This is a relatively new (~3 years old) establishment and after our meal Thursday, we are sorry we waited so long. Everything was great, the service, the food, and the wine. We had the shrimp and grits appetizer which was to die for. We had four fish choices that night and the menu shows about 10 different preparations. You pick your fish and the prep and the chef works his magic. Between the 3 of us, we had two different fishes (amberjack and yellow tile fish) and 3 different preparations. We all sampled each other's and everyone liked all three dishes. We've been to lots of seafood places in Sarasota and this is as good as any of them. If you haven't dined here and love great seafood, you owe it to yourself to give Off the Hook a try. More...

Excellent seafood prepared very well. Vegetables were prepared exceptional. Had Red Snapper with crap topping. Everything was great.
We wandered into this restaurant after we missed our turn off Siesta Key while heading to a different one lol. We figured we would give it a try. Food was delicious! The waiter's name was Josh and he was super nice and attentive. Bread was warm and yummy. All around a great place but I would categorize this as a $$$ restaurant, not a $$. Worth a trip. More...

Best seafood ever! My visiting friends only like to eat fish in restaurants so we sampled four restaurants in the past week. Outstanding!! One of the best dinners we have ever had!!
Amazing meal, service and ambiance! You all Rocked it last night! Thank you!!!
Was the best seafood I had while vacationing with my family. Even my 18 year old daughter (who isn't a huge fish eater) loved it! The service was courtesy and helpful making recommendations but wasn't outstanding. He forgot to bring my cocktail, but I was fine. It's in a strip mall but once inside the upscale ambience is very pleasant! We will definitely be going back on our next trip to Siesta Key!! More...
