The crab cakes were top-notch! I had a lovely BD dinner here, beef t"loin, mashed taters, and grilled asparagus. Looking forward to my leftovers ☺️
Very quality food, a litrle pricey tho!
Wonderful food! Great service!
Great food. Creative cocktails. Get dessert
Nice neighborhood restaurant. Craft cocktails and nightly specials. My groups had diverse taste and this restaurant accommodated all from sandwiches to creative salads to fine dining. We went for the black cherry pork loin which didn't disappoint. The meat was moist and not over cooked. My sister had a salad with grilled salmon. My brother had the grilled salmon in curry sauce that was quite yummy and the salad with cherries. The other brother had the smoked salmon salad and chicken wings. He loved the smoked salad. We all liked that all Salads were offered in half and whole sizes. We brought home the strawberry rhubarb tart. It was delicious. Three of us had the black cherry mojito. It was good. I would have like to have some cherries in the drink. More...
Always a great meal; a smaller staple menu with fantastic, creative daily specials, where everything is done right; kitchen focuses on fresh and flavorful plates. A favorite date spot for us, as it feels as intimate and welcoming as the old friend it is. More...

The best Chef and staff in SW Michigan.
OB always pays extra attention to us. Great food and creative delicious menu
Staff was helpful and friendly and the environment is very calm and casual. Every single person in the entire restaurant was sitting bar top which made for good conversation.
Food is so freaking awesome. Great gf choices.
Food with excellent
Oakwood bistro is our go to for an easy nicer dinner close to home. We always enjoy our food and drinks. We went early on Friday for dinner as it can fill up very quickly. Our kids also like the food, and really the the booths as they have a mirror strip they make faces in. More...
Prompt helpful accommodating staff. Tasty food. Wonderful Gf options.
Food is amazing, service exceptional. One of the best restaurants in the area.
Great food and great ambiance
This is not my only review. So it will be quick. One: omg for the giant sized nachos, those are for four people. Two: if you are an adult, buy the bubbler appetizer. Three: ask for makenzie or danielle to serve you. Wonderful girls who are on the ball. 5 star food at 2 star pricing. More...
Another great experience at this boutique bistro, great wine, amazing food, and superb service. Always five stars
Food is good, but they need to change up their menu. Priced a little high.
Great, healthy food, nice atmosphere, and quiet background
In and out cleanlinessg
I've had lunch at least a couple times a year at this restaurant since it first appeared bearing the moniker "Frank & Gordon's" (I think that was in '97). I like the setting, I like the food, and I find the service is generally attentive. This most recent meal was lunch today with my mother and youngest brother, the latter who was visiting from Atlanta. Our mother had a small Caesar Salad, and my brother and I each had the same thing: A Bell's Burger, medium rare, with potato wedges. They had alcohol, I drank coffee. As usual, the food and the service were good. I find the restaurant a perfect place to meet friends or family. More...
Diane had the red pepper soup with lobster, which was memorably flavorable. I had the lamb sandwich special, which had pickled onions and creamy goat cheese. Very good sandwich, served with salty and delicious root chips. Another great lunch at the Oakwood Bistro! More...
Delicious food, had the salmon with blueberry sauce.
Delicious! One of our favorite spots! Always have to have the Creme Brûlée!
I always love the charm and elegance of Oakwood Bistro! The food and atmosphere are always perfect!
This restaurant was very busy but they still able to seat us right away. We had to wait a long time for our drinks and food, but the staff were very friendly. The food was pretty good, but did not seem to match the high prices. I don't know that I would frequent this restaurant, but it was not bad by any means. More...
Had the pleasure of eating here last night and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, the service was great and the food was delicious. Their menu has unique entrees, sandwiches and pizzas. The meal service was relaxing, each course was served with enough time between so you could enjoy each without having the next served before you had finished. My husband had the creme brulee and felt it was the best he has ever had. More...
Good meal and best coffee. Delicious
Four of us were seated quickly, and enjoyed a good variety of meals. Our waitress, Rebecca , was helpful and attentive. We'll go back agIn
Great food, great drinks. One of our nice night out spots for a relaxing dinner.
Consistently one of the best restaurants in Kalamazoo. Have stopped by this friendly neighborhood spot for countless lunches, dinners and drinks over the years and am yet to be disappointed. Friendly and attentive staff paired with a delicious and varied menu. Highly recommend if you're in the area! More...

A Kalamazoo secret. Never had a bad meal here in many years.
Great Girls Day Out meeting place. The lobster pizza was pretty amazing!
This is one of the very best places to eat in town. I've never been disappointed!
Great food and great service!
Great and diverse selection of anything from pizzas to burgers to salads to high end tasty entrees. The pan seared walleye in tapenade with grilled asparagus was divine.
Delicious food. Great prices. Good service.
Trendy/hipster place (vegan, locally-sourced, non-GMO, etc), but with excellent service. I enjoyed my pizza very much!
Great meal and the service the best!
Great food, great service, the wait staff there is awesome and I would definitely recommend this place to anybody
Great food great people I recommend that you eat here
I hadn't been here in years and I was pleasantly surprised. For a place that has newspaper clippings and knick knacks on the walls, a primarily baby-boomer clientele, and entrees mostly under $15 I expected a more sub-par experience. But the food was excellent and the service was attentive and consistent. And as always, I ordered my usual Manhattan and the bartender mixed it perfectly. You'd be surprised how often I get a poorly mixed cocktail, so I always make sure to note the places that nail it and Oakwood Bistro joins that list. I highly recommend for a nice dinner out before a movie or play. It's not what I'd consider fine dining but it's certainly a step above most other restaurants in it's tier in Kalamazoo. Certainly a surprising and welcome addition to my Friday night eating out rotation. More...
Great changing menu. Great beer. Go early, or there is a long wait.
Enjoyed the evening out. Staff was helpful, and dinner was very good.
Stumbled on this place during a work trip. Amazing food, drinks, and service. The salmon was delicious. Highly recommend it. There were 4 or 5 other menu items I would have loved to have tried. More...
Always a great visit, thanks Patrick.
Yum.Yum. And great service too!
Great food and service. Nice, cozy decor and nice restrooms.
Delicious food and they offer a lot of gluten free options.
Eye closing enjoyment. You know the food is great when you can't help but to close your eyes and savor. The crap cakes were amazing... Large pieces of fresh crab. The shrimp ettoufee was the best I've had since living in the south. The creme brulee.... O.M.G. ... You could actually see the vanilla bean.... So so so good. Can't wait to come back. More...
Small but friendly with interesting and changing specials
Great menu and service, highly recommended.
Service is always great, nice atmosphere too. Their regular menu is good, and they change a few things seasonally to keep it fresh. Their specials are why it's probably my favorite place to go, always interesting and always delicious! More...
This place is great. Great food, great atmosphere. Little older clientele, but no issues. Not a sports bar, or anything like that, just good quality food in a relaxed upscale setting.
Great homemade food
Nice atmosphere. Friendly, courteous, and attentive staff. Delicious meals. Be sure to give this place a try.
Good food and service. Nice drinks. American comfort food with a twist. Locally sourced ingredients seasonally based side dishes.
We eat here often. Excellent quality, diverse menu. Steaks, pizza, sandwiches, daily risotto.
Could prepare better for friendly service when busy. Food is excellent, but wait can be unbearable during typical entertainment times. And don't try takeout in a Fri night! Got home with my $22 whitefish, missing the asparagus. :( More...
Limited menu for lunch but all delicious fresh food. Salads are kind of over priced. Good service.
Food was great!!!
Sever was awesome! Food was good.
Good food, nice atmosphere, and reasonably priced.
A little on the pricey side, but the quality is there! Had their NY strip special and it was prepared wonderfully. Also have had the salmon BLT, and one of the gnocchi specials. Been impressed every time.
Nice place that is well regarded with good food.
Nice alternative for lunch. My friend hadn't been there before. We had a very nice time.
In town for a family reunion went purely off yelp reviews and had a good looking variety on the menu. Everything was great. Good local beers on tap, nice selection of wines by the glass. Food was great I had the local white fish really good. Would definitely come back when we are in town. More...
Fabulous dinner at Oakwood Bistro as part of the Kalamazoo Taster's Guild Wine dinner. Please note there was a special menu prepared for this dinner and my review is based on that. The 1st Course was steamed oysters & roasted calaspara rice. Very good. We all commented the oysters were perfectly steamed. Not rubbery at all. 2nd Course was prosciutto wrapped scallops with a red onion & currant jam. These were to die for. 3rd course was opened fired seared pork belly with lavender scented blackberry glaze. The pork was tender with a nice crispy texture. Thumbs up!4th course was grilled strip loin, served with blue cheese, green beans, and a dried tomato & garlic scape salsa. Very flavorful and prepared as I like it.5th course was a variety of marinated olives, manchego cheese, and quince cheese. I had never had quince cheese before (sweet, thick jelly made of the pulp of the quince fruit). Great way to end on.As always the waitstaff was A+ at Oakwood Bistro. Chef Ryan Soule and his team outdid themselves with this dinner. I definitely recommend Oakwood Bistro to anyone who appreciates a well-crafted meal. More...
Awesome food and wine with excellent service. One of the Best restaurants in town
One of the better restaurants in town. I had a Flank Steak. It was marinated in kiwi and grilled. It was served with Cuban black beans and rice, grilled asparagus, over a jalapeño cilantro coulis (sauce). I started with the Cesar salad. I don't recommend doing that. The Cesar salad came with sun-dried tomatoes, the texture of the Parmesan cheese was off, and it tasted nothing like a Cesar salad should. I'm happy to report that the meal got better from there. The steak was cooked to a perfect mediumrare. The asparagus was cookedperfectly and I think most places over cook it, this place did not. The Cuban black beans and rice was delicious. The service was great and the place was packed. It's a little spendy but I'm willing to pay for good quality food. More...
One of the better choices when on the Oakland Drive area of Kalamazoo is Oakwood Bistro. They are remarkably consistent with attentive friendly service. As a beer city they have the usual Bell's Two Hearted and Amber Ale on tap with a range of other beers available. Solid wine choices and a full service bar are also available. They do an excellent job of presenting the diner with a lot of lifestyle options on the menu all without overwhelming you with options. Vegan. Got it. Good fish. Got it. Wanting Steak. Got it. Want a pizza and a burger. got it. Food quality and service is very good. More...
Checked in early (4:30) people at the bar and eating at the tables. Nice quiet Laid back atmosphere. Patrick gave us nice service. Spanish antipasto was great! Chorizo olives and manchego cheese goes well with a two hearts beer. Smoked chicken pasty was light and full of flavor. Salmon meatballs and linguini was good according to wifey, she nearly finished it!!! A little pricey but worth a visit. More...
I'm going to take off my New York foodie hat for a second and review Oakwood in it's own context...Kalmazoo.Apparently this is one of THE spots for a good meal. It's certainly cute, and the food is decent. My salad was okay and the salmon was fresh. Servers are super friendly and attentive, so I guess...since this is...Kalamazoo...it's a decent place. Once you make it past the strip mall facade you enter a top-notch dining environment with an excellent staff and incredible food. Our service was provided by Patrick. He was warm, knowledgeable, and beyond in tune with our needs,as he was constantly one step ahead of our needs. My thanks to Patrick for being a big part of a great experience. The food was perfect. Three dinners, all spectacular in flavor and presentation. It was awesome to sit in view of the kitchen, it was like watching a well conducted orchestra. Oakwood Bistro's storefront location is nothing special, but everything else about it is. We were passing through town and found it on Yelp; OB turned out to be even better than expected. Our food was absolutely to die for, and the dessert, recommended by our hilarious waiter, was over the top. Do NOT miss it: Peach Pecan Strudel! More...
If you're in this part of town - Oakwood Bistro is definitely worth a try! The Good: * The food! No matter what I've tried at Oakwood Bistro it's always delicious! * The atmosphere is inviting and doesn't feel up-tight and stuffy. Has almost a homie feel!* The have a bar section and a more fancier dining section. * Restrooms are clean and well maintained. * Offers a full bar and a lovely wine and craft beer selection. The Needs Improvement: * The service - we weren't informed of any specials nor was our server enthusiastic. * The parking is always congested and it's difficult to park/ backup your vehicle. * If they are busy - be prepared to wait for your food. Overall: A solid 4 stars! Oakwood Bistro is worth a try for lunch or dinner! More...

Good Mother's Day buffet. Enjoyed it.
What a little gem. The staff was very friendly and the food was Amazing! You must try the Lamb Shawarma it was so full of flavor. My tastebuds were very pleased. The atmosphere was was high end causal which was surprising considering that it is located in a strip mall. I would highly recommend if you are looking for something different. More...
Certainly one of the best restaurants in town, Oakwood Bistro used to serve my favorite crab cake in the world (the lemon-dill sauce was transcendental -- it would've been my "last meal" request when it was still on the menu) but I get out there much less frequently since they stopped serving that sauce (hint-hint!)We did, however, bring a full table of guests there for Mother's Day and were super impressed with their Mother's Day brunch service. Our group represented a huge variety of ages and palates and every last individual found several things they thought were incredible. The kids, for example, went back for seconds, thirds and I suspect fourths of the fried chicken tenders. They were about as good as I've ever had, not at all dried out despite being on a buffet line. The diet-conscious ladies in our group were thrilled with the salads -- particularly a dill dressing for the tossed salad and a broccoli salad that my Mother-in-law praised very highly. The meat-lovers were delighted with the tender, rare prime rib and ham and the foodie (that would be me) was thrilled with the eggs benedict and the two heavenly quiches. Wait-staff did a great job managing a huge table amid an extremely busy day and the chefs kept the buffet trays full throughout our whole visit. The dessert table was also worth a visit -- my favorites were the mini key lime pies and the chocolate mousse cups but my brother-in-law swore by a cooke bar with chocolate and butterscotch chips and coconut flakes that he said probably singlehandedly gave him diabetes.Drinks were included in the buffet, which cost $25 per person (a bit spendy for breakfast but the buffet offerings were fantastic).Oakwood Bistro also excels in its daily specials and makes the best risotto around. Been here many times. Tonight I had crab cakes and a pad thai. Crab cakes were good, maybe a little bready. They had a great sear, we're topped with pickled, roasted peppers, and came with an awesome lobster cream sauce which was seasoned wondefully. The pad Thai had a great sour or vinegar note, good sauce, fresh vegetables, and heat that made me sweat a litte. More...
The Bistro of Oakwood is fantastic. As a parent of a child with chronic food allergies, it is sometimes very difficult to dine out. From our very first visit, they did everything possible to accommodate my child and make sure that he not only had something great to eat, but a variety of items to choose from. This has become one of our favorite places to go. Great food and wonderful customer service! More...

It has unfortunately been a while since I've been there, but my memories are fond and I thought I'd give them some praise that they deserved.I went with a friend not knowing what to expect, and we were both quite satisfied with what we each got. I had the eggplant Parmesan and presentation was wonderful, real care and effort was put into it - though it was just eggplant, it was cooked very well. I don't remember much about the service, but the setting was also very nice. A nice place for something a little more fancy. More...
Awesome menu. Lots of drag choices Great food! Good drinks and great service. A well kept secret. Lunch is fantastic. Can't miss.
The linguine with Scottish Salmon meatballs is fantastic! Please, never take this off the menu. I've ordered it the last four times I've been there.
BistrosbutterfliesandburgersWhen we were in Kalamazoo on business a while back a friend suggested that we stop for lunch at a placed called Oakwood Bistro. At first I was a bit hesitant because bistro is one of those words that makes me uncomfortable because I'm not really sure what it means, this could be one of those restaurants with a lot of unpronounceable food, dripping with funky and bizarre sauces and spices. However my trepidation was quickly put to rest as soon as we walked in the door. An unpretentious and cozy restaurant appeared that I immediately felt comfortable in. Nice little booths and lots of cool stuff to look at, definitely a place that was easy to relax in. Our server was bouncy, cute and funny without being a nuisance and was one of those people who seemed to be able to do a zillions things all at the same time. Flittering around like a butterfly and able to magically appear at our table at just the right moment. The food was extremely good and was exactly what we wanted and we all were very satisfied with out meals. I'm still not sure what a bistro is but Oakwood Bistro definitely is a place that serves up some dang good food in a very pleasant environment. More...

Food was good, our sangrias were a little watered down, and we mentioned it to the waitress when she asked how everything was and we told her it happens sometimes. She said that it shouldn't so she took the drinks off our tab!!! So sweet of her! So we both doubled our tip for her. More...

We have been going to Oakwood Bistro for many years when we come home to Kalamazoo. The service is always friendly. We tend to go for lunch and usually end up with a burger. The beer selection is really good. The happy hour prices are great! It's tucked away in Oakwood Plaza, but its worth a visit. More...
It's a nice place to eat. I got the 5 cheese mac and cheese and loved every bite of it. Everyone at my table love their food. The waiter was great and was on top of filling up drinks and always asked how we were doing. The only critique is that it is on the pricy side. But in the end the food is worth it. You get big portions and great flavor. It's also worth getting dessert. YUM! I would recommend to anyone who wants good food. More...
This unassuming restaurant in a strip-mall like setting was excellent! I had a difficult time deciding which entree I wanted, because there were several that sounded really good. I had the salmon with gnocchi, asparagus and arugula pesto. Our server asked how I wanted the salmon cooked, which I have never encountered before, but I was so happy because I like my salmon more rare than most people. It was perfectly cooked, and the gnocchi was amazing. The pesto was so flavorful and creamy. The portion was a really good size for the price. I was so happy with my food! My boyfriend had the chicken pasty, which was puff pastry with gravy and mashed potatoes. I had a bite and I thought it was just okay. I wanted more filling; it seemed like it was mostly puff pastry. We also had a blueberry crisp for dessert, which was pretty good. I would probably skip it next time and order an appetizer instead. Our server was attentive and polite. The atmosphere inside is cozy but a little dated, but I really didn't mind because the food was so good. I think the prices are fair for the kind of dishes Oakwood Bistro is producing. Overall, I was really happy to eat here and I would definitely be back. More...
The atmosphere was comfortable and inviting and the wait staff attentive and friendly. They easily accommodated a party of 18 with a reservation and no wait. I want to give this place 4 1/2 stars. I have been here on multiple occasions growing up and in my adult life. This is a special place for me for many reasons but am never disappointed when I go. Their menu is rotating and they always have varying dishes than other types of food places in Kalamazoo, which I like. They have great martini's and is a perfect date night locale :) More...
Stopped in for dinner at Oakwood Bistro this evening, and had a pleasant meal. I've lived in town for almost 20 years and this is the first time I've eaten here.We started with the California Spring Roll, a fried spring roll stuffed with crab meat, cabbage, carrot, egg and scallions. Served with a soy pudding and a wasabi crema, the soy pudding was the standout - the wasabi crema was a little weak on spice and flavor. Overall, a decent starter. We both ordered the specials - the shrimp and chorizo risotto with scallions and red peppers and the new york strip with a bleu cheese and ramp fondue, served over truffled mashed potatoes. The risotto was very well done, a great consistency with the shrimp and chorizo mixing well in the dish. They offer a "risotto of the day" on the menu, which will definitely lead to a repeat visit from us.The NY strip was cooked to order, and a sizable portion, with just enough fat to add flavor. We found the truffled potatoes to our liking, with just a hint of the truffle flavor. The fondue, however was a bit salt-heavy and the steak may have benefitted from a little less of it.We enjoyed the meal overall, and the service was pleasant and helpful. They have a full bar as well, and a good selection of local beers for those who enjoy a libation with their meal. We'll be back for their risotto roulette! More...

Oakwood Bistro is our very favorite restaurant! The food is always consistently wonderful, the service is outstanding, and we've met many wonderful folks while sitting at the bar!
Grrrreat food. Friendly service. Community-minded owner Ryan. Be sure to check out and enjoy!
When I pulled up, I wasn't sure since it is an unassuming little place in a strip mall. Well, i walked in and it was packed! Very lively, although I would characterize the crowd on this Friday night as young retiree. Everyone seemed to know each other. I had the lobster roll and it was delicious. Good service, good food, lively atmosphere---what more could you ask? More...
One of our favorites. Food is always delicious, and good service. Love the specials, and the artfully crafted bistro style options.

We have been going here since moving to Kalamazoo, out kids love the Mac and cheese, pizzas and desserts. Great wine selection Ideal for families
Our group of five enjoyed our recent visit to this dining establishment. Humus was okay and was served with pita chips. Nothing too special stood out about it though. I could have had something similar at home. Two in our party had pizza. It was a thinner type of crust that was done fairly well. As the customer, I had the option of ordering my pizza with a red sauce or pesto. I opted for the red sauce, which complimented the pizza I had, even though it was advertised as being served with pesto on the menu. One in our party enjoyed the French onion soup and a salad, while another had a veggie pasty. Everyone seemed happy with their meal. The service was fair and after seeing some of the desserts served at a table nearby, we are still wondering why we didn't choose to try the offerings made available to us. Perhaps next time we are at this establishment we will start with dessert to make sure we get it in. All in all we will likely return to the Oakwood Bistro for another meal and try some other tasty morsels. More...
Great food! Friendly, competent wait staff! Neighborhood atmosphere! Don't miss it!
The Bistro is among the best restaurants in Kalamazoo for good food. The atmosphere is casual (though it needs an update) but the food includes original recipes, and it is all terrific. Was especially pleased with the savory gnocchi that came with the tenderloin. Beyond the food, the excellent craft beer selection and knowledgeable servers make this a worthy stop. More...
Although pricey, never had a meal or server I didn't enjoy over the last 10 years. Great pizza, wonderful sandwiches if you're looking for something light or inexpensive. Really pricey butthefood is totally worth it. Staff is always very nice and informative. I really like their cremebrule and their homeade daily ice cream.
went there for lunch with one of my my girlfriends. We had the spinach dip in the calamari everything was fantastic! If not for being a little overpriced and less than generous with the portions, this would be a favorite of mine. Not what you might expect from a strip mall restaurant. Excellent quality food.
