Best and most well rounded gym in Sac! More equipment then you can ever use. A myriad of different classes for all levels and a super friendly staff.

As I'm new to the area, I relied solely on Yelp reviews to find a new Crosfit gym. Luckily for me my first stop was my last. This place is fantastic!! Personal attention and small classes. I've worked out my entire life and I learn something new at every class. They have an incredible community within the gym. Super place to be. Thanks AJ More...

A.J. and his crew are very knowledgable and outgoing. The customer base is very diverse in their fitness goals and regimen, but all share an openness and welcoming attitude to newcomers to the gym -- if you're an athlete, an aspiring athlete, someone who just wants to alleviate the stress and strain of work, or have never been in a gym, this is the place for you. Classes are great. Personal training is great. More...

Everything about this gym is great. From the first time I went in AJ made me feel comfortable and welcome. As a trainer, he works with you on your goals, and pushes and supports you to be the best you. There's such a variety of equipment, great people, and great trainers. More...

I have been working with strength coach, Alexandra Williams, for just over a year. Originally, Alexandra was working out of another gym in midtown, but is now based out of NorCal Healthworks.  With Alexandra's support, in twelve months, I have become incredibly flexible, strong, and fearless.  I am in my 40's and do not remember ever being this in touch with my body, certainly never this strong, or this flexible!  In terms of NorCal Healthworks, I am happy with their facility and have found their other staff and clients quite warm. Her early morning private and group sessions certainly do get the day moving! More...

This is the best gym I've ever been a part of. The staff is incredibly supportive in any kind of progress you want to make. What I mean by that, is that you can be a seasoned veteran or a newbie to a gym and you'll receive the same dedication and respect from the trainers. AJ is a super cool dude who makes sure the gym belongs to everyone. To be honest it's an environment you have to experience. Come with goals and come with an open mind and you'll make gains and friends all at the same time! More...

I came to the gym this past winter as a forty-something backpacker who had a serious rotator cuff injury (I had done some PT) and also had gotten out of shape.  With the help of AJ and this gym, I've recovered almost full strength and movement in my shoulder, and gotten back into backpacking fit -- I just completed a 125-mile thru hike in the Sierra. This gym has a lot to recommend it, including:*a variety of equipment and exercises, so you never get bored.  Yes, it has barbells.  It also has tires, which it turns out are an excellent work out device.*AJ knows the human body and exactly how far to push you, and how to strength train safely even taking into account existing injuries*reasonably convenient location*if you are a backpacker or hiker, I cannot imagine a better gym.  AJ is not only a personal trainer, but also runs backpacking trips.  He knows what it takes to be successful at this.*a diverse, friendly, and fun clienteleI am participating in personal training, but I've noticed that the small group classes look fun.  Creative exercises, high energy, and people serious about their workouts. I love this gym! NorCal Healthworks is a gym like no other! The trainers are the best in the business! I particularly enjoy working out with AJ. He has a kind way about himself when he is instructing you to through a movement or class. He has a great way to keep you on task and push you to new levels of strength and fitness. I am a long distance/ endurance cyclist and AJ has helped me get in tip top shape for multiple day rides and challenging rides up in altitude. He knew what I needed to do to get ready for my events. He is a true practitioner in the field. NorCal Healthworks has a community type vibe were everyone feels welcomed, so don't feel shy or embarrassed, truly everyone will make you feel like home in the gym. Thank you AJ, you are tops in my book! More...

awesome gym.  great people and coaches and great gym members.  this place has an actual sense of community which is unique in the "fitness centers" of today.  bare bones kind of place but has all the equipment to get you stronger, more fit, or whatever your goals are.  highly recommend no matter what your fitness goals are.  would not join this gym if you want to spin the eliptical for 30 min then chill in the locker room for another 30.  but if you want to work your ass off, powerlift, or train your oly lifts; then come here, work your ass off and get huge.cannot emphasize enough how great not only the gym is, but the people that run it as well.  come hang out and join us for a work out, very welcoming place. I love this place. My previous gym experience downtown consisted of walking in, plunking down at the same machines with no real plan, and leaving without breaking a sweat. A change of work got me looking for gyms in a closer neighborhood, so I went into NorCal Healthworks with an open mind. I was skeptical about group classes but after a free trial class I knew this was the place I needed.Everyone who works and trains there is friendly and personal. You get a much better sense of community than at other gyms in the area. There's also such a wealth of experience from the trainers to draw upon. If you're new to strength training, AJ will make sure your form develops properly and safely. I've always hated the rushed competition of boot camp & crossfit classes and felt I wasn't getting the right training in movements that are pretty complex and dangerous if executed poorly. After 4 months here, the improvement has been obvious in both my form and fitness. It's also an atmosphere that's a great balance between fun and lighthearted and intense and motivational. In short, can't recommend it enough. Come in, talk to AJ, and give it a try. More...

Lots of focus on safe weightlifting practice and he emphasizes a good warm up and always a good explanation of what you will do in the workout. I have been a regular participant in this gym since October of 2012 (previously known as Bodytribe Gym). I have worked extensively with the owner AJ and several of the other trainers in the gym. This gym is essentially a no-frills place that gives you back what you put into it. Tons of non-traditional equipment that kicks your ass when utilized properly. This place isn't for everyone. The price can appear to be high at first, but all of the trainers are competent individuals with a wide variety of knowledge on theory, diet/nutrition, and exercises. Membership provides access to so many different exercise options (Yoga, cardio, olympic lifts, powerlifts, etc). Some individuals might not agree with the exercises taught, especially since many of the exercises, like Olympic lifts or power lifts, require long learning times and physical flexibility that most people would not agree to work and sacrifice ego to benefit. I personally had to reduce a lot of my own ego in order to get stronger. My personal physical development has gone through a huge surge since I've worked out at Healthworks and has given me a new appreciation for individuals in the personal training and fitness field (given that they are competent like AJ). Great place. Give it a shot if you know nothing about exercise, want to learn, and have a lot of patience. More...
