We had excellent food and service when we visited on July 20th. We split the grain bowl (super delicious), seasonal nachos & General Tso's cauliflower. I highly recommend Naive! More...

Very cool restaurant with a surprising and creative menu. The absolute best thing I tasted there was the passion fruit "cheesecake" (make with chick peas). It was amazing!!! I hope they get it back on the menu soon. More...

Naive is located in a residential area close to Nulu and Butchertown. The masas de puerco were delicious...crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.  The "large plate" menu category is a bit of a misnomer, however. The portions were pretty small. It was pretty good, but for the price, I would rather go elsewhere. More...

If I could give 6 stars, I would. This place is so cool and the food is amazing. The cauliflower is my favorite appetizer and the fish dishes never disappoint. The drink menu is full of creative drinks made with fresh ingredients. Love this place!!! More...

Naive has recently gone "full service" and it's made a huge difference! The waitstaff wasn't stellar but sufficient. I'm so happy. I love the food at Naive, but it's confused set up and slow service was always a huge pitfall. They recently released their Summer 2019 menu which features a ton of bright and light summery dishes! We started with roasted red pepper hummus--which was enormous and deliciously spiced. Then we moved on to General Tso's Cauliflower which is a Naive classic and been on each of the menus since the restaurant opened. We finished with grit cakes which are served with mushrooms and summer squash and a corn salsa. It's just screams summer. More...

First off, a beautiful space! Probably the most aesthetically pleasing restaurant we visited on our trip. The menu looks fabulous. The drinks are interesting, and I was curious about several. We came here on a weekday, when we walked in there were three other tables seated. We had a downtown tour to attend roughly an hour and ten minutes after we arrived, but since they brand themselves as fast casual, I didnt think it would be an issue. Drinks took about 10 minutes to receive, seemed a bit long, but we weren't too worried. Ordered the cauliflower and a salad. After we got our food order in, waited 25-30 minutes, pulled the obvious glancing around everywhere for a server, to being ignored for another 5 minutes. At that point I assumed our orders were never put in. Finally got the attention of the manager, who said she'd look into it. We watched them look through the kitchen orders, ours wasn't there, and she came back to us. Our original server finally came back with a lackluster apology. This entire issue was very confusing to me, due to how few people were in the restaurant when we ordered. By the time we actually got our food it was much busier. This is now an hour into our visit. Unfortunately for us we missed the tour completely. The food was great once we received it, but the complete lack of concern, and treatment of our issue would prevent me from returning. More...

Naive and I have never really had a good experience. Over the winter, I dug a few menu items but the drinks were always a hit or miss. For the price, the portions are small. Atleast the Winter portions were filling and decently priced appetizers. The food items are a hit or miss. Sometimes, delicious. Other times, not so much. The ambiance is neat and what they try and do I dig. However, the menu options being mess may be easier for the kitchen but i find disappointing as a consumer. They kept the cauliflower dish  that I love. Although, everyone seems to cook it differently. Thw waiter we had this past weekend was sweet as can be. I didn't realize the rose latte I ordered was just a 6oz glass of coconut milk with pink thangs thrown in. It was a $5 glass of coconut milk, might I add... Was pretty disappointed with that as well. After atleast seven tries and my hope to dig this place, I give up. More...

One of my favorite Lou restaurants! It's so cute inside! From the plants, to the tables with different chairs, to the cute bar area. It's the kind of place you want to just curl up at and hang out forever. They have vegetarian food options too which I love. Their cocktails are made with FRESH ingredients like fresh beet juice or green juice! Love having that over sugary cheap mixes. You must go and try! More...

My mom and I had brunch here today. It was such a good experience. Great service and even better food. I got the chicken pesto sandwich. It was perfect with plenty of chicken. Very filling. It also came with sweet potato fries. My mom got the curry chicken salad sandwich. The prices are a little more but the quality of food is worth every penny. Also - get the wild berry and lime mimosa - it was delish! More...

I was skeptical of Naive at first because I typically dislike vegan food, but each time I've been there I have been so pleased with what I order! My favorite thing on the menu hands down is the general tso's cauliflower, but this last time I wanted to try something new so we ordered the nachos. WOW were they incredible! If you hadn't told me that the cheese was cashew cheese I wouldn't have known the difference. I wanted to lick the bowl clean. I also had their seasonal grain bowl (pictured). That was very good as well, but I may add protein if I were to try it again. Definitely my favorite spot to go with my vegan friends, as they have non-vegan options as well. Something for everyone! Went here on Sunday for a dinner. We were seated quickly. The restaurant has nice and simple ambience. Our waitress Bridget was nice and explained us the menu and answered our questions.I got the Moroccan chicken, Chicken Pesto Sandwich and Whipped guacamole. The guacamole was nothing great. The plantain chips were an interesting touch but it really was average. The Moroccan chicken was scrumptious as had a very authentic taste to it. The khuskhus and tough yet complimented it very well. The Pesto Sandwich was a tad bit oily but tasty nonetheless. The chicken was soft and a delight to bite into.Overall an above average experience with some good food. The check was about $50 so it's kinda expensive but I'd say you should visit it at least once to take a break from the usual! More...

My first sign that I should leave and not dine here was seeing a table for two with half eaten sandwiches left over.  This place had two cooks in the kitchen goofing off - first sign on unsanitary condition.   The kitchen is open for display to the people eating inside restaurant. Not professional to be goofing off acting like kids back there for us to see.  Food was cold and awful. We had to ask for a flask of water too as waitress was blind to our emtry water glasses.  Overpriced.  And worse of all - all three of us got the tummy bug that night.! My body was heating up. To Naive in the Butchertown neighborhood last Sunday for its fast casual, farm-to-table menu.  Open for a little over a year, it serves lots of small plates and plenty of healthy food. When I first heard about Naive, it was described as a vegetarian restaurant.  As I checked out the menu, I was pleasantly surprised at the diversity of offerings. The couple who own Naive, moved here from Washington DC.  They picked Louisville because of its vibrant restaurant scene and the lack of "healthyish" food.I love cucumber vodka, so the Green Queen is a must as I get seated. For my starter, General Tso's Cauliflower, packing some Chinese heat.  A true signature. Top selling menu item.Although I was ready to order the Tuna Poke for my entree, my server Abby, recommended the Lamb Bolognese.  It was hearty, spicy and filling.Everything about this meal was spot-on.  Great server, superb food, quick service, fun environment and lots of value for your dollar. I was excited to try this place because I'm vegetarian & it's hard to find a lot of vegetarian friendly places. we came in at 11am on a Friday. I had the nachos and they were cold. My husband got the pesto chicken (which came with mayo- and it does not state that on the menu) they didn't remake the sandwich and just brought out two new pieces of bread. Ordered two cortaditos - and it tasted nothing like the cortaditos that I've had. Spent 40$ on a sandwich that was incorrectly labeled & cold nachos. Also, the chef/cook was talking on his cellphone while making our food- that can't be sanitary. 1 star for atmosphere and the server was super friendly. More...

This place is great, and you have to visit it at least once.  Everything tastes fresh and makes you like kale.  Their menu is kind of a hipster take on your usual dishes, and they do it well.  General Tso's cauliflower is a must.  I also recommend the pork tacos and the pad Thai.  The only thing I dislike about this place is they are low on servers so you have to be a bit proactive. Came to Naive for a second time to show it off to my husband because my first experience was so wonderful and he fell in love with it just as much as I did! I love their all natural menu options and each item is served with such beauty. All of their options are locally sourced, organic, and fresh and you can tell a difference within the first bite of your meal. I had the chorizo bowl, formally known as the Cardi B burrito bowl (kind of bummed they changed the name), which I prefer with sautéed kale and my husband got the foundation bowl (potato hash, bacon, avocado, etc). Both were absolutely delicious. Sometimes with places that claim to be "healthy" or "organic" the options lack flavor or excitement, but Naive does a great job of bringing life to their menu options. The overall aesthetic of the restaurant is fresh and earthy, yet cozy and inviting. I think we may of found our new after-church brunch spot! More...

This was my first time to Naive after my wife talking about it several times and it didn't disappoint! The atmosphere is really neat with a modern barnhouse feel. But the food was even better. My wife had the Chorizo Bowl and I had the Foundation Bowl which was eggs, bacon, potato hash, avocado, and aoli. And simply put, it was amazing! The fresh ingredients were combined perfectly and I loved each bite. The only suggestion I'd make is to chop up the bacon instead of serving them as slices. Since it's a bowl, it was difficult to cut up the bacon to get a piece in each bite. More...

Wonderful to stumble into this remarkable place today. Passing through town driving from St Louis to Columbus. Searched this amazing service for farm to table and jumped off the highway for a late Sunday meal. Started with "the cauliflower ". Worth the whole day sitting in the car. Flavor was smacking. Perfectly crisp, a touch of spice, a touch of sweet.  Perfect!Than we had the egg Sandwich served on sweet potato biscuit with sausage. Wonderful!   The side of vegetables was also perfect!  Taste was perfect, texture perfect. Yummm all around. Staff also very kind efficient and very kind. When they heard we were sharing all the dishes they pre-split the plate for us. Even supplying an extra egg so we each had our own.  My only regret is that this place is a10 hour drive from my home!! Why you should come: the food is really, really good, and they are tolerant and accepting of those with eating concerns. One of my friends has celiac disease. Not gluten intolerance. A legitimate allergy to gluten. Places like this are getting more common, but it is hard to go out and her be able to eat freely. She was so comfortable here and happy. It is just so awesome to see. I have been here maybe 4 times now. Every time the food keeps getting better. This last time for a ladies' brunch. They have bottomless mimosas for $12. Whaaaa I had to function for the day so I stayed away. I settled on a blueberry pomegranate mojito with kombucha. Wow. It was incredible. We got a couple shared plates to start. The hummus and the Tso's cauliflower. The hummus is delicious and in all honesty, just hummus. But the cauliflower is something special. Spicy, flavorful, with crispy bits of lightly fried kale and rice puffs with a sprinkling of pickled green beans. For the main courses we had the lemon matcha pancakes which were so incredible. Light, fluffy with the perfect amount of lemon brightness. We all shared that and could not stop eating. Breakfast tacos were so filling, but were probably the least exciting of the orders. The chorizo bowl was delicious as well. Sweet potato and regular potato base with peppers mixed with chorizo. A side of potatoes accidentally came out and those were so different from the hash. Whatever oil they use to sautee these veggies in, I really need it. The seasoning/oil is so good. The sweet potato biscuit stole the show for me. I got 2 and brought 1 home for my husband. He could not stop singing its praises. I don't want biscuits any other way. The service is why I cannot give 5 stars. This brunch did not need to last 2 hours. I understand they are going through growing pains. They went from counter service to full service. They either need more servers or the servers need to be taught efficiency. We did not mind bc we were enjoying ourselves, but there were a lot of angry customers yelling trying to get the servers' attentions and just finally chasing them down. It really messes with the ambience of the place. Other people have spoken to how beautiful the space is. It truly is so light and bright. The servers need to learn how to make the round to check on all tables in one trip. A lot of wasted steps, in my opinion. It really makes life much easier for the server and guests involved. More...

I have to say, with the great reviews, I was a bit disappointed. Went here with a girlfriend for dinner, and maybe it's just better for brunch. Appearance: The cub side appeal was adorable, option to sit outside with tall open windows. When walking in it has a great feng shui, with a wonderful ambiance. Plant hanging, very spacious, tall ceilings, open floor, both the kitchen and the bar are viewable from the front. And appeared to be very clean. Drinks: Great list of signature cocktails, so that was nice. Food: the menu is seasonal and changes, and everything appears to be farm to table with lots of vegan options. I had the cauliflower dish as an appetizer and it was really good. Then had the tuna poke for my meal, which I felt was very small and didn't have a lot of consistency, maybe 6 very small pieces of tuna, and hardly any rice noodles at all. Considering it was $16 I was disappointed. It left me still hungry after the meal. Desert: my friend and I shared the cookies and cream cake which was very large and more than enough for 2 people, however left much to be desired. Service: our server was so kind polite and attentive and happy to make suggestion. All in all it's a cute place but I have no desire to return. More...

Naive is a refreshing concept for Louisville. From the restaurant itself to the paper products, Naive aims to be sustainable and eco-friendly. It's one of the only places in Louisville I have seen with a composting bin as well. On top of that the food is very unique and mostly locally sourced with lots of vegetarian and vegan options. It's nice to finally have places like this in Louisville! It is a bit pricey but I think worth it!I've been a few times and the General Tso's cauliflower is always a favorite. We got the whipped guacamole last night which was delicious but probably not the most healthy (made from cream cheese). I also got the torched Caesar Salad with avocado on top which was good but not my favorite. I had a Blueberry Pomegranate Mojito as well which was amazing! More...

Love this spot & will be back. Sweet. Potato. Biscuits. Nuff said. Highly highly recommend the Lemon Matcha Pancakes. Also, they use the Beyond Meat substitute for sausage, but if you're like me and don't want to eat things that look and taste like meat, ask for the one made with quinoa. It's delicious.

Naive wins my loyalist and will win yours as above average, locally sourced, as much organic, natural, and as vegan accommodating as possible with new American food and decent quality. Naive is table service, rotating menu, freshly made food, with full bar, great service, accommodating food and drinks service and is a good neighborhood location that is suitable for dates, meeting, friends get together, or just causal. Add to that plenty of deserts. We tried this place 3 times prior to this review. The concepts are amazing but sometime the applicability can take a hit. The curry chicken salad for example could be a 5/5 taste wise but the sandwich will fall apart and become messy due to the bread texture and the fact that it is open from both sides. The sweet potatoes are freaking good and are served with curry ketchup that I never liked until I got here. The tuna poke, was average or a little above but if you had the Limbo tuna poke, this one will not hit the spot. The orange cauliflower were tasty, can't say above or below average because they are first to be served or tried here but definitely 4/5 for those and are served with perfectly cooked green beans, whole with great texture. Lastly, we tried the shroom burger, this was a 3/5, dry, but the taste was different and not boring at all. The drink menu changes seasonally but as mentioned above the team here will accomdibate and make the best they can from what they have. Food 4 Service 5 Speed of service 3Price-portion 3 Setting 4Parking 3 Bon appetite More...

I'm so glad we stumbled upon this spot! We were looking for dinner on a Thursday night while staying in NuLu and wanted something healthier. It was not crowded at 8pm ish so we sat at the bar. Naive has wonderful cocktails using fresh ingredients and juices. So different! I opted for non-alcohol and got a tea with CBD instead. Delish, and I could see the CBD added in; it was quite plentiful. Husband got a curried chicken salad sandwich which he said was one of the best chicken salads he's had. The bread it came on was delicious but a little hard to eat as a sammy. I got the tuna poke bowl and it was plentiful and fresh. Every ingredient listed on the menu was actually in the bowl (down to the minor details like toasted sesame seeds) which I appreciated. It was just super good. Our bartender/waiter was very friendly. I would come here a lot as a local! And I recommend if you're craving something healthier to balance out all the KY sauce and BBQ :p Our total bill was about 50 bucks which for dinner, is not bad since it included cocktails as well. This was my first time to Naive and I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into the modern and trendy cafe. We were greeted by friendly wait staff, who were very attentive to the table. Their menu offered a lot of gluten free, vegan, and paleo options, which many don't do! The mushroom burger was absolutely amazing, but you need to try the matcha pancakes. TL;DR Service left a lot to be desired. But the food was good.I came here with a friend before heading over to the Flea Off Market one Saturday. It was later...more in between lunch and dinner than for brunch. But they still had a brunch menu, and this breakfast food loving gal was happy! We were seated right away and I really liked the bright, airy feel of the space. I settled pretty quickly on the dish I wanted to get. The chorizo bowl. They are vegetarian and vegan friendly, but have protein options. This omnivore (and chorizo lover) thanks you for that. I also ordered a latte. The coffee took a bit longer to be delivered than I expected, considering the relative not-busy-ness of the place. When it was delivered, I asked right away for sugar because I had noticed that there wasn't any on the table. After waiting quite a while with no food or sugar delivery, and finally noticing our waters were empty, I asked again for some sweetener of some kind while she was filling our H2Os. Again....we waited...and eventually our food was brought out. Upon delivery of which I had to ask YET AGAIN for some sugar. It there had been any I could see on any other tables, I would have just gone to take some. But there wasn't any. This third request finally did result in some sugar packets making their way to our table. It was kind of ridiculous. The food was pretty good. It was definitely heavy on the sweet potato/squash. But it was tasty. Everything on the menu looked tasty. Just be prepared for it to take longer than expected.I had heard from friends that they weren't sure if what you got was worth the price. I think the portion sizes are fairly generous, and therefore fairly priced. My only issues lies with the slowness and inattentive service. They have been open and around long enough now that that should not be an issue. If a friend wanted to come here I wouldn't object. Or if I was trying to think of a vegetarian-friendly food option, this would still remain on the list of potential spots. More...

Y'all. This place is INCREDIBLE. We absolutely regret not coming in sooner. We had been meaning to for months and now I regret all the time lost not eating this amazing food. My parents came into town for my dissertation defense and "wanted to eat healthy" so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity finally try Naive. I was a little wary that my parents might have a hard time finding something to eat but I was absolutely wrong. They actually had difficulty picking because it all sounded so good - but both settled on the masas de puerco. I had the seasonal nachos (beyond delicious) and my husband had the pulled pork sandwich. We also started with the general tso's cauliflower and truly it was the star of the night. All of us are meat eaters and all of us agreed, the cauliflower was the absolute best dish of the night!! My cocktail was amazing too - brandy, grapefruit juice, honey, and IPA.  I couldn't believe how much I liked the drink considering I'm not usually a fan of brandy or IPA's. To top it all off, service was quick, casual, and friendly, which we all very much appreciated. Truly, Naive is doing something special here and has something for everyone - I hope they continue the excellent work and I can't wait to come back again. More...

Hipster spot with good food is how I would define Naive.   Location does not have a lot of parking, as it is street parking.  The interior is small and very well decorated. However, there are some very small tables along the wall for 2 people that would only fit the plate of 1 person.I went for brunch on a Saturday and it was not overly crowded so we were able to get a table.  I got the smoked salmon grit cakes, which were small but packed with flavor!  Capers were on top and I love capers so I may be biased.  Everyone at my table said their food was delicious and the presentation was great!  There are vegan and veggie options as well. One thing to note, when I went the brunch did not have any drink specials or brunch specials.  Just the menu. More...

The dishes we tried were super tasty and so was the 24K Golden Latte. I had the latte sans expresso with oat milk and it was delicious. Almost like having dessert before dinner. We started with the Whipped Guac for an appetizer. It came with fried plantain chips and extra corn tortilla chips on the side. It was crazy flavorful. I had the Kale Shroom Burger, vegan style with coconut milk cheese. The pickled onions really set the flavors off. It also came with crispy sweet potatoes with a tomato curry sauce. Amazing! I wanted to lick the little sauce container clean but that would be bad manners. My friend had the Masas de Puerco and it was super good. The pork was served on a bed of rice and beans, which by themselves were very good. I could find nothing wrong with the food or the service from Brennen. Go! I've been wanting to go to Naive since it opened because of their wide variety of food for different diets. I was planning a bachelorette weekend and decided to start out here for brunch. I made reservations just to make sure we had enough seating over a month in advance and called to confirm a couple days in advance. When we got there they couldn't find the reservation. I was annoyed but there was a table available that could accommodate everyone so we sat down to wait for everyone and check out the menu. While we were sitting at our table we got asked by a waitress if others were going to join us, a large group had just come in so I think they wanted to move us which added to my annoyance since I had made reservations. We had to go to the bar to order our drinks which was pretty full. The water was tucked away in the corner of the bar right by someone's seat which seemed awkward. Once we were ready to order our food we went up to the food counter to order and were told since we had already ordered from the bar we would need to order our food there. Another annoying thing. I feel it would be so much easier if they would just take your order at the table. We were walking all over the place to get what we needed and it was crowded. After we got our drinks and ordered everything settled down and we could finally relax. I got the vegan Kale and Artichoke dip. It was good but could use a bit more flavor or "cheesiness". I also got the vegan General Tso's Cauliflower which was really good. I did get a bit sick of the flavor after eating a good portion of it so it would be great to share along with something else. Even the most picky eater was able to find something and everyone liked their food and the mimosas. I also had to write out how the tickets should be separated since everyone's was put on one ticket. Seems like they should have been able to figure that out. I felt like the customers should be getting tips for all the work we had to do to get food and drinks. I would definitely come back but not on a Saturday or Sunday morning. I would actually give Naive 3.5 stars. I feel a few changes would make this an amazing restaurant! More...

I am always going to lean in favor of restaurants that cater towards vegans and vegetarians- they don't have to commit fully, they just have give us a nod.  Naive does this! While there, I tried the Kale Shroom Burger, and it didn't disappoint! With a house made vegan burger, garlic aioli, field greens, tomato, pickled red onions, and a side of sweet potato fries, I'm getting hungry again just writing this. Amazing! But fear not my carnivorous friends!  They offer options based off of the flesh of once living creatures for those of you into that sort of thing. And from what I can tell, you'll really enjoy them too!No matter what your preference, I think you and I can both agree that a place that puts love into its food and strives to be as local as possible is a winner- and Naive is that!  Eat there- you'll like it! Naive let's you know the moment you get in that they are very sustainable.  What they mean by "sustainability" is "very slow", with a secondary definition being "plates may be changed without notice ".  On a positive the food was good, guacamole, beet hummus, and masa de puerco well prepared.  Lots of really progressive looking folks so if you are in to that you will like it! This place has  5-star service and food. I called in to place a takeout order, but the menu had just changed that very day, so many of the things I saw on their menu online were no longer available. The person over the phone actually texted me a photo of their brand new menu so I could look it over and decide what else looked enticing. That is top notch service. I also showed up with a food allergy question and the two chefs working in the kitchen were able to answer me directly - you can get any more assurance than that!I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, and I also got to try the General Tso's cauliflower. The cauliflower was indulgent without feeling unhealthy, with great sweet/acidic/salty flavors, slightly crunchy with a very thin coating of breading (or something). The pulled pork had SO MUCH pork packed in between the ciabatta bun. I would have preferred the pork to be a bit more shredded, as it was pretty messy to eat and somewhat difficult to take a clean bike without dragging a big chunk of pork out and flopping all over your chin (you can picture it, right?). The ciabatta bun was dense and chewy, the pickles and onions were salty and cut the fat of the pork well. Oh! And the sweet potato fries I got with the sandwich were great too. Just a simple sea salt seasoning made them a great complement to the meal.I didn't get to stay in and dine, but the decor outside and inside was really cool - kinda Scandinavian, bright interior with lots of light, lots of soft wood accents. The bathroom was very clean and well decorated also. More...

I guess the name, Naive is apt. We were naive to think that the "good for kids" label was an accurate one. We could not have felt more out of place or unwelcome. There was not one item on the menu that the average kid would eat. We may try this place again without the kids in tow, but this visit left a bad taste in our mouths. We left without ordering. Finally made it over to this quaint little eatery! When you arrive you place your order at the counter then find a seat. The menu is small but the portions are big! I had the Whipped Cheese and Brekkie Sandwich. Both full of flavor. After breakfast I had the Rose and Hibiscus Latte off of their winter brunch menu. It sounded exotic! It wasn't my favorite drink, but I'm glad I tried something different. The wait staff were very attentive and nice. Naive is an all around pleasant experience and definitely off the beaten path for yummy food that is cooked without butter or cream. Vegans and vegetarians rejoice, this place is for you! Next visit I plan on exploring their cocktail menu! More...

Naive is my kind of place - laid-back atmosphere, kind staff, environmentally conscious. Also really kicking food. For reals. The staff at Naive is fantastic, and very patient (and honest) with questions about the menu. Ordering is a breeze - just grab a menu to peruse, order at the counter, grab a number, and wait eagerly for your life to be changed. I have thus far sampled:*beet hummus - surprisingly complex, with orange zest and crushed pepitas,  served with very substantial, perfectly salted chips.*general Tso's cauliflower - phenomenal flavor, accompanied by crispy kale and tangy green beans.*kale shroom burger - let me wipe the drool off my chin as I recall the perfect balance between that savory vegan burger and the fluffiest bun I've had in many years. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that I feel the quantity/price ratio is a little off. Is the food worth the price? Yes, but I would be able to go more often if the cost were a little more in my favor. More...

This was our second visit to Naive. I had the general tso cauliflower. It was amazing. My guest had the pad Thai, also delicious. Despite it being a slow afternoon our coffee drinks took nearly 30 minutes to be made. When a staff finally noticed the ticket they visited our table and asked if we'd had our drinks. We finished our food and we were okay with having them as a desert. However we did not care for the latte and espresso tonic. I'm not sure if the bartender/barista wasn't present, but the latte was not steamed and the espresso tonic was poorly mixed and unlike espresso tonic we've had at other coffee shops. It was all really sloppy and disappointing for the price. The server made a joke about having desert and nobody apologized for the wait of our drinks. Mistakes happen, but there was no effort or acknowledgement that any occurred. More...

A couple of friends and I came to Naive on a Sunday around lunch/brunch time.  First glance, we LOVED the ambiance of the place.  The set up was cozy and adorable with plants hanging, beautiful lights and a cocktail bar in the center of the restaurant.  I'm a sucker for indoor plants.  The staff was nice - being that it was our first time here, the girl at the counter walked us through her favorites on the menu.  All of us did the deal on bottomless mimosas, which was really cool because you can get a different flavor of mimosa each time (orange, pineapple, mango, etc.).  I ordered the paid thai - the "noodles" were made of zucchini and this dish had great flavor.  Other customers were coming to our table to admire our dishes and talk about what we ordered.  None of us are vegan but we loved this place and will be back! This is my and my best friends' collective favorite place to eat. The food is fresh and delicious, light but filling. The general tso's cauliflower is a must. Every. Damn. Time. I am consciously trying to reduce my reliance on meat so I was excited to find a new vegetarian dinner option. The vibe was casual and what I expected from Butchertown-  hipster but trying really hard not to be. It felt more like a coffee shop than restaurant or bar. I had the halumi tacos and the beet hummus, which were both generally tasty but not at all well balanced. I found that both were overwhelmed with acid- citrus/orange in the hummus and pomegranate on the tacos. The chips that came with the hummus were freshly fried but still soggy with oil. Fortunately some bites were free from the overload but they were hard to intentionally pick out. Hopefully some tweaking can fix those issues. More...

Terrific food, y'all. Been getting into vegetarian eating of late. Made it a goal for the month of January to not eat meat. Tell you what. Been an eye opener. Have felt terrific. Aaannnnndddd Naive has many options for people that wish to do the same!- Beet hummus is outstanding. You don't get a lot for what you pay. Which is to be expected, I suppose. Seems to be the norm anymore. You get a shareable thingy and it just doesn't stretch too far. But you'll enjoy it. An earthy tasting hummus with chips. Yummo.- Had the pad Thai. Made with zucchini. Also yummo. Has a little kick to it, which is what you get with a pad Thai. Not as peanutty as you'd expect. But it was really tasty. And you get a lot. It was pretty hearty. I felt full after.- The lady had halloumi tacos. I had a bite. The bite I had was tasty as hell. I didn't hear any complaints coming from her side of the table. Mostly just smacking lips and "Mmmmm."Reckon the one knock on this place is the price. A little higher than I normally want to pay. But it won't break you.Worth visiting. More...

The food is fine, but the pricing it a little on the higher end especially for those small plates. Definitely a $$ restaurant. It is very much a healthier choice than most other restaurants and it's in a cool part of town. My resolution this coming year is to try 30 restaruants I know almost nothing about in 300 days. I started early with Naive, a largely vegetarian restaurant.Upsides: The food was very good. The fresh kale was crispy and unique. The pad thai had flavor but wasn't over spicy as it can often be. It was perfectly done. The menu is full of vegetarian options, but they all include an 'add protien' options for us heathens like myself.Downsides:When i asked for drink options that were non alcoholic I was only given one choice, even when I looked puzzled, and I didn't see that section of the menu till later, so I missed the teas and lemonades they had. I was offered a pear apple shrub which was really strong, and did not go with the meal. The seating choices are odd. Forced to choose between a comfortable seat with a tiny unstable spinning table my food barely fit on, or a wood bench, or a chair that was very low, I opted for comfort since i was alone. But if i'd had company, the table for two would barely fit two plates. The price is really high for a seat yourself, get your own food, order at the desk from a casually dressed staff kind of place. I was alone and spent 28 on a pad thai with protein and a drink and no appetizer. It was good food, but with that atmosphere, a bit overpriced for my comfort. I wouldn't recommend it, but I'd go back if I was with someone who liked it, especially since it is one of the few places vegans can get real choices. More...

I left the restaurant after my meal feeling a bit naive, did I really just blow half my pay check on a handful of plants. Ok, I exaggerated but my meal left a lot to be desired. The pros: It's a cute, modern and beautifully decorated space with a great philosophy of serving clean sustainable food. The service is friendly and attentive, though a little inexperience. The cons: The food was beautifully plated and aesthetically pleasing but its flavor missed the mark for me . My chicken was very dry and didn't have too much flavor. Same for the rice, though I do like the crunchiness. The food is also grossly overpriced, my tater tots order had a total of 4 tots for $5! My $16 trout salad had a handful of greens a small piece of fish. I left the place hungry for a burger and some fried chicken. It's perfect for hip young people who love to fill their Instagram with pretty food and decor, who has the money or at least the willingness to spend lots of it for such an experience. But it's not so great for this hip-challenged lady who's just looking for great food (wherever it comes from or how ugly it looks) at a reasonable price. More...

We made reservations for 8 people. When we arrived, the manager had failed to follow through on keeping a table for us--and no one seemed to care. But, even if the manager had kept a table, there really weren't any tables that would seat 8. The tables here are TINY.  The largest table was meant to seat 6. But it was so narrow that I wouldn't have considered it comfortable. I'm not sure why their website allows reservations for 8.  I'm not sure why their website allows reservations when the manager clearly doesn't check for reservations. We ate elsewhere. I sat at the bar where the staff was very friendly and attentive. They had a long list of great cocktails/spirits and I went with a Bloody Mary. I'm very picky with them and I would definitely go back for another! The food was very unique also. I don't typically eat paleo/gluten free but these were most of their options. I think I found my new favorite spot. Naïve is minimalist and yet abundant with greenery and welcoming vibes. Their menu is just varied enough without becoming overwhelming, and they have some killer cocktails as well as wine and beer. My husband and I went to Naive for the first time as a sort of anniversary lunch, and our 8 month old came along with us. I got the Full Moon Harvest bowl and I'm still dreaming about it. It was fresh and creamy, tart and savory, all at once. We also ordered the kale and artichoke dip, and I had to restrain myself in order to keep from licking the bowl clean. It was just that good. While I doubt there are any high chairs or slings in Naive, we felt entirely comfortably bringing out daughter, and noticed a couple of other families with little ones as well. I'd say it's a safe bet for lunch, though I can't vouch for how casual the vibe is at night. I was thrilled to be able to enjoy a heavenly meal in a beautiful space with my family to mark 5 years with my husband, and I'm so grateful that Naive provided the opportunity for us to do so. Oh my goodness THIS RESTAURANT... It is so cool, so tasty, so beautiful. I'm in love and saddened that I don't live close enough to go more often. Naive has great, seasonal options for all people. They have small plates and regular size, delicious looking desserts, kombucha on tap, beer, espresso... So you could basically live here, is what I've come to.I tried the small cauliflower plate, and a large pad thai, which the pad thai was weird and not pad thai-ish, but I was so hungry that I wasn't picky. I really wanted to try the desserts they had, but spent way to much at this point, with a kombucha (lavender, I believe?) and beer for my date. This can be a casual restaurant for friends, or a nice, dimly lit date night restaurant. It's a casual walk-up and order style, which allows for room to talk intimately with whoever you're with. Or talk to yourself, whatever. I recommend trying the espresso drinks next time, because they looked so unique and use Quills coffee, so high quality. More...

Naive is literally every Instagram girl's dream come true. You'll know exactly what I'm talking about as soon as you walk through the door.   I have been wanting to try this place for a really, really long time. I don't know what took me so long to finally get here, but I'm so glad to have finally experienced it. Although I'm not vegetarian or vegan, I still love getting to go to places that offer a lot of healthy options. Naive is this kind of place.   Their menu changes by season, and it seems like they have a separate menu for brunch. I wanted to try out a couple different dishes, since their men is quite diverse, so I went with the popular General Tso's cauliflower and a breakfast taco. With both plates, I immediately recognized the amount of detail that was put into these options, which makes it much more enjoyable. I'm really not much of a cauliflower person, but I loved the "Chinese chicken" twist that they add, with a delicious flavor. It is also topped with green beans and kale. The breakfast taco was a really great option for brunch, and had A LOT added into it. It was great!   On another note, Naive is probably one of the prettiest restaurants that I've walked into. I ordered the General Tso's cauliflower, which was the real showstopper for me! It was delicious and didn't have me missing chicken at all. The portions are probably smaller than some are used to, but I thought the servings were a good size. I was full, but not uncomfortably full.  The day I went was so hot and we had been outside all day, so I decided to skip the cocktail. Visiting Naive was a total treat! My sister recommended we try this new-ish restaurant when I came in town this week. As a vegetarian, Naive was right up my alley, but I think omnivores would like it as well. You order at the counter and get a number to bring to your table. The space inside is very modern, bright, and clean, with greenery accents- definitely 'gram worthy. There is a variety of seating options: tables, couches, and a bar where you can order alcoholic or caffeinated beverages. It was all so cute!Naive has a seasonal menu and had recently changed to their fall menu. My sis and I ordered the pad thai, farmers risotto, and general tso's cauliflower appetizer to split. Everything was so good! The pad thai was made with zoodles and the peanut sauce was especially amazing. The cauliflower was a little too fried for me, but was still good. The hoisin and oyster mushrooms have a stronger scent that'll remind you of its Asian roots. I liked the snapper and surprisingly I love the light crispness of the mushrooms. The soba noodle salad was okay. I like my soba noodles a bit more al dente, but that's my preference.Pad Thai--My friend got this, but even with just a sample I knew I wanted my own serving. I love popular Thai dishes, so this vegetarian version would be a real treat. I wonder if it had some spiciness to it because that would be fantastic...but I'm not sure how that would fare with zucchini noodles though.General Tso's cauliflower--Ah the infamous cauliflower. Reminiscent of popular American Chinese food, it's a comfort-food appetizer to share. I ate most of it alone and I kind of tapped out from all the sweet and sour sauce, so share it!Tater tots--A few giant tots (maybe 3 in total) with some house-made sauces. Tasty, but I probably won't order it next time.==For Next Time==*their menu changes, so these may not be there next time*-Spanish garlic shrimp-Farmers risotto (heard really good things about this)-Jamaican bowl + added meat (haven't decided which one) More...

First of all, aesthetic is 100% on point! We were greeted immediately and had wonderful service. We went during the day because we had our little one with us and they had a high chair for her (which I didn't expect @ this type of place). The food was super fresh, healthy, but also bold, unique, and full of flavor - just what we were looking for! I got the Jamaican bowl and it was heaven! We also got whipped feta app, sweet potato soup, shrimp app (which has a curry/Indian vibe !) and the risotto. We loved every single thing. Can't wait to try cocktails next time! More...

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this place! My husband and I just moved to Louisville from Brooklyn (I'm a Louisville native) and we were blown away by our lunch here today. We're both vegan and have been for many years (for ethical reasons--not health although that's important too) and we were thrilled with all the inventive vegan options for both food and drink. The General Tso's Cauliflower was incredible and the Farmer's Risotto was our favorite main item. Great beer, cocktails, ambience and decor...we can't wait to come back and try every vegan thing on the menu. To Ryan who gave 4 stars because "as a meat eater.. there wasn't enough variety" don't go to a restaurant that says it's plant based with meat options. That's like griping about a Japanese restaurant not serving  burritos. Personally I would love for them to go 100% plant-based because if they are going for sustainability, vegan is the way. Besides that, no matter how small, local or sustainable a farm may be, animals don't want to die for the trivial pleasure of one's taste buds. That said, I'm thrilled that they are mostly vegan and love this new find! Louisville is becoming as vegan-friendly as Brooklyn! Woohoo! More...

Naive is a great place to grab a healthy meal. It's clear from the moment you walk in the door that they put a lot of thought into the restaurant, from the cozy mid-mod design and furniture to the Sonos speakers hanging overhead. Once your food comes the intention is confirmed: the plates are bright and purposefully arranged. More importantly - they're delicious!Healthy food carries the stigma of being bland, and nothing could be further from the truth at Naive. Everything is packed with flavor. In particular, the General Tso's Cauliflower is an excellent snack for the table (all the small plates are great for sharing) and the Carribean Bowl is a delicious mix of jerk spices and earthy black beans. Louisville is constantly at a loss for healthy places to eat lunch, and Naive is a welcomed addition to the local landscape. More...

You go Naive!! First things first-  get a charcoal espresso lemonade. Not only is the food delicious, i appreciate what you are doing. As a millennial, i eat your mission up. Eating clean, sustainability and supporting local organic farms is not a trend- its a movement and one that Louisville Kentucky needs to get caught up on. What you put in your body matters and what you do to the earth matters.. Naive understands that and truly cares. I hope they make lots of money in the process of serving us truly healthy and delicious foods. You have no idea how many times i have wished for a healthy place to grab some food without it it taking an hour, having to spend 25 dollars, or having to gamble on ordering something gross. Thanks naive for keeping it clean and classy. More...

If you took a train to hipster-town and got off at the intersection of fair trade and vegan-ville, Naive would be the first restaurant you would see. It would also be some of the most delicious food you would have all day. The decor and natural lighting in Naive truly gives it a delightful aesthetic. I ordered Cardi B. urrito (local farm eggs + chorizo + crispy potatoes + cashew queso + cabbage slaw + tomatillo salsa, served with a side of root vegetable hash; $13). This was actually more of a burrito bowl, so to speak... but it was remarkably good.  The flavors blended perfectly, and I was hooked from the first bite.We also tried the General Tso's Cauliflower (green bean slaw + crisp kale + puffed rice; $9). It's exactly what it sounds like, and it's truly delightful. Louisville, you're truly lucky to have this little spot. Make sure you get here early as seating seemed to fill up quickly. Bring your appetite and enjoy this gem. I'll be back the next time I'm in Louisville. More...

Naive is one of my new favorite places in Louisville! The spot is gorgeous and the decor is lovely. We are here for dinner, so we started with the tater tot and whipped cheese appetizer and that was one of the best tots I've ever had! The whipped cheese was amazing!! For my dinner I ordered the fettuccine dish and I was pleasantly surprised. The carrot "yolk" added to the pasta was very unique and made the pasta surprisingly creamy. My husband ordered the watermelon poke plate and really enjoyed it. We also ordered a dessert which was a wine soaked pear with granola. We were very pleased with our meal!! One thing I will say is the food came out super fast, which isn't necessarily bad. However, we tried to course out our meal so some dishes had to sit on the side while we ate our small plates. I am really interested in trying their brunch here!! More...

While this type of restaurant typically isn't my cup of tea (very vegetarian and vegan forward, not that this is a bad thing), the dishes we had were very good. I tried both the Korean bbq pork and the grilled shrimp. Both were quite tasty, though the portions were rather small for the price. I will definitely come back, I just can't see being a regular. If you are a vegetarian or vegan, this place will probably knock your socks off. I believe they are owned by the same people that own Morels which is entirely veg/vegan. As a meat lover, its solid, just not quite as much variety and not enough dishes for me to give a 5.Also, the ambience is very on point. Very modern, clean, and inviting. More...

This is officially my favorite restaurant in Louisville. I tried the Caribbean bowl a few days ago and I can't stop raving about it. It's the type of dish that highlights the deliciousness and beauty of vegetables all on their own. If i could make this at home, I would eat it everyday. It's the perfect spot for groups with meat-eaters, vegans, and vegetarians. I'm vegan and my friends aren't, but we can still all enjoy this place together. They have something for every type of eater. I also really love how sustainable they are. They recycle and compost. All the silverware and dishes were reusable. I would highly recommend this place for a cocktail. The food was very good and it's super cute inside. I don't know that I love the "order at the counter" concept but I realize that is a personal preference. My only suggestion is to stay open LATER. There are very few places in Louisville that stay open late and I can see this place staying alive into the AM. The kitchen closing at 9:45 is a bit disappointing. When I drink late I want food too... But still 5 stars for the drinks and food I had tonight! More...

Creativity and conscientiousness seem to cover every part of Naive -- from the interior to the drinks to the food. And I love it!Today was my second visit, and it continues to impress. On my first visit, I got the curry bowl, which was packed with flavor. Several items on the menu are vegetarian and vegan friendly. Naive promotes itself as organic and plant-based with meat options. But don't let that make you think that the food is bland. It's anything but. The curry bowl had large shrimp in it, and I loved the sauce. And then today, I mixed two smaller plate items: the tater tots and avocado toast. These sound basic, but again ... anything but.The tater tots are large by tot standards. And they're made with Kenny's smoked gouda, with house-made ketchup and a sweeter jam-like sauce on the side. Loved how cheesy these were. And then the avocado toast is on the sweeter side, with seared halumi cheese, blackberries and hibiscus honey. This was the first time that I've had halumi cheese. It fries up, almost like egg whites. My colleagues and I also shared the General Tao's Cauliflower. I got this on my first visit too and had to get it again. It's made with green bean slaw, crisp kale and puffed rice. The outside is sticky and a little sweet. It's indulgent, and I never thought I would say that about cauliflower. One more thing: I tried a few bites of the pad thai, which is made with zucchini noodles, I believe. I'm definitely getting this when I go back. Similar to the curry bowl, I loved the sauce, which incorporates pad thai's signature peanut flavor. And while you're enjoying your innovative meal, you can take in the beautiful interior, which includes a variety of seating options, a large bar in the center and a string art focal point. (I will say, though, the tiny triangle tables, which spin, are not the easiest to eat on when dining with someone. One of us had to hold the table, so that it wouldn't rotate while we were trying to cut into our food. We also had to put our drinks on an adjacent table because there was no room.)Lastly, the drinks! For those like me, who can't drink alcohol at the moment, Naive also has a "coffee bar." On my first visit, I asked the bartender to make me a fun coffee drink, and she made me a delicious mint latte. And when I can drink again, I'll definitely come back for a cocktail. Naive is all about sustainability, in how they renovated their building, their serving ware, how they handle waste and their food. I also love that they strive to farm their own food. This food is good and you can feel good eating it. More...

I'd only heard good things about this new hot spot in town, so I was excited to check it out. It's in good company among all the fine eateries in Butchertown/Nulu. Though they don't have a parking lot, there was ample adjacent free street parking when I went during lunch. Upon seeing the high curb appeal exterior and stepping inside, my mood was immediately improved. I was struck by the very clean, bright, natural design. It ties nicely to their plant-based menu concept. As a vegetarian, I love a restaurant where I can order anything on the menu. While I wanted to try everything, I chose the pad Thai for my maiden visit. Wow! The portion was generous and the flavor was perfect. The tear-drop sweet peppers were a delicious, unique accent. And because I was intrigued by the coffee drink options, I went with the cashier's recommendation of the Golden Girl latte. The sweet tumeric was unexpectedly delightful. I would order both items again as well as the General Tso's cauliflower. I managed to snag a taste from my lunch mate's plate. Out of this world! This is definitely a new favorite spot for me. Naive is far from naive when it comes to delectable snacks and visually stimulating environment. It is nestled on the corner of Wenzel and Washington, so prepare for street parking. I've yet to have any trouble finding a spot though, and let me tell you, its always packed because its delicious. Its evident that the quality and time that goes into the preparation and plating of this food is world class. There are lots of vegan/vegetarian options, and they are not lying when they say they are plant-based. From radiant micro-greens, to vibrant herbs and vegatables, to well-balanced cocktails, you can count on a lovely experience both visually and for your tummy. Although the portions are not gigantic, I've found that I leave quite fulfilled with one entree and app. The superfood nachos are my favorite so far. The avo toast too! This place has photo-worthy food, but I can't get over the self-righteousness of the menu, which  states the restaurant won't serve beef because of environmental reasons but still serves shrimp even though its procurement results in 'by-catch' that devastates seahorse populations, etc.

Cute little place! I love the decoration, and the vibe. You order and pay for your food at the counter/kitchen. The server bring out your food and clean up your table when you leave. There's a bar area to order your drink. I don't feel that welcoming, friendliness from the servers since there was not much interaction with them beside they bringing out our food, barely say anything to us or check on us. We ordered a bunch of food and they brought out one after another. I really like the food presentation, very colorful. The flavors were interesting. I like the crispy kimchi fried rice. I did not really care for the tater tots that came with only 3 and not 4 pieces like in an earlier review, but the sauce that came with was really good except they gave us very little of it. The chicken we had was really dry with not much vegetables ( one piece of asparagus, and 2 halves puny potato fingerling, maybe a few carrots). The price is really pricy for the kind of food we got. Excitedly went to check out Naive after reading rave reviews and hearing good reviews from friends. The atmosphere is cute, however, the layout of the restaurant is clearly more aesthetic than functional. We arrived with four diners and there are really only two spots that can comfortably accommodate four diners. Since they were both taken, we sat at two smaller tables. However, the tables were triangular in shape and our food and drinks could not fit on them! We had to put our drinks on the floor. YIKES! The food was delicious - I ordered the mole poblano relleno dish and my partner ordered the curry bowl. Both were yummy, but the portion size was a bit small, especially for the price. I also ordered the Kombucha cocktail because it was the most reasonably priced. Could not taste much alcohol in it, but it was good. We wanted to love this place because they have a lot of options for my vegetarian partner along with meat dishes. I'd say this is a good place to go for lunch or when you want a light dinner. Not good with a group of three or more, as the space isn't accommodating and it's quite loud inside. More...

It's a new place. I've tried most, if not all items on the menu that were vegan and gluten free or could be modified to be that way. I liked the red lentil pasta the most. The nachos were really nice; the flavors complemented each other so well. And the fermented black were so well seasoned on the nachos that you could hardly notice that they were fermented. The poblano relleno was good; it's not traditional, but their version is superb. The sweet corn pupusas were pretty sweet because they had sweet yellow corn batter as opposed to white mass and a bit crispier than a pupusa as well, so they weren't what I was expecting, but still good! The sweet potato chickpea dish was good as well. It was a solid hearty dish. To be honest the spring menu was kind of hearty with lots of rice, grits, beans, root veggies, etc. And reminded so much of fall, but the flavors were there and the textures were there, so you really can't complain. I failed to mention the crispy rice in the kimchi rice dish; it reminded me of bibimbap. I've had a couple of other dishes and cocktails as well, but I think this gets my point across. Everything is really new and busy. So it seems like they're trying to get everything smooth and uniform and train everyone all while dealing with a high influx of customers! They're doing pretty well. I'm hoping for some lighter fare on the summer menu! Lots of leafy greens, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, etc.. More...

After reading about Naive in the paper this morning my boyfriend was insistent that this was the place to try for brunch this morning. He wasn't wrong. We started out with mimosas. He had a traditional one with organic oj and I tried the strawberry basil. Both were quite tasty. He had the Indecision large plate. Although it was all good, the bacon and root vegetables were definitely the highlights. I had the Brekkie Sandwich. It was filling and very tasty. We'll definitely be returning based on the food alone. The atmosphere and substanibility model are also highly appealing. A restaurant that strives to only have one bag of garbage at the end of each night is pretty amazing. Oh.... unlike an earlier reviewer I found the staff very helpful and friendly. It's nice to hear that unlike most restaurants they're getting paid a living wage. It's the added knowledge of what the owners are trying to do here that pushes this restaurant above many others making it a place you want to support. We returned to Naive again for brunch today. I'm tempted, very tempted to remove a star. They were out of the first two things I tried to order (the pancakes and the Banana Chai Cream Brûlée Toast). We both ended up with the Indecision Platter. Other than the fact that the eggs were a little over cooked, it was excellent. I think their bacon is amongst the best I've ever had. I tried the Peruvian Caramel Latte because I was desperate for caffeine and it was good (this is coming from a non coffee drinker). My boyfriend had the Bloody Mary which he said was excellent. One more point to make: All the beautiful windows also made it way too hot inside. Please turn up to AC to compensate. We returned for dinner last Friday. As we stood there reading the menu, we almost left. There was very little that stood out to either of us. However, we ended up staying. For our appetizer we shared the tater tots. These three huge tots put every other variation I've ever had to shame. They were wonderful!! For dinner, he had the barbecue which was quite tasty despite the unusual additions of things like beets, watermelon, and spring mix. I had the General Tso's Cauliflower with a side of grilled chicken breast. The cauliflower was simply amazing. It's worth a trip all by itself. On the other hand, the chicken breast was pretty bland. I was very hard I had the dipping sauce from the tater tots to perk up the taste. For drinks we had sangria and a Bloody Mary. Both hit the spot. There was another drink that I found very tempting but I find some of their drink prices outrageous so I doubt I'll ever try it. More...

Visited this restaurant for dinner on Friday 6/1. The atmosphere was very loud and crowded. Ordering, you stand in line and peruse the menu, order and pay  at the counter, they give you your number, and you go and find a table. I had a Butchertown Donkey and loved it. Very tasty and refreshing. The tator tot appetizer was very good, with tasty dipping sauces. For my entree, I ordered the herb roasted chicken with confit potatoes, vegetable purée and spring vegetables. The chicken consisted of sliced breast meat that was somewhat over cooked and dry, not very herby or flavorful. The potatoes and purée were delicious, however the spring vegetables were under cooked with the asparagus being partially stringy and tough. Come on guys! You can do better than that!I visited this restaurant for lunch earlier in the week and had a more pleasurable experience. More...

Love this place! It's in my neighborhood and it adds a great ambience to an area that needs it!The food and drinks (for the most part) were really good and the things that I weren't crazy about were a big hit with my friends-so, it was just a matter of taste. The general tso's cauliflower--yum!! The flatbread with goat cheese and strawberries --yum! Sadly, I'm not sure they still have that.I drive past every day and I have noticed, sadly, that the landscaping is already going WAY downhill. It's a great building and the inside looks great but it's getting really weedy! All the cute tables outside are surrounded by weeds and even the two nice trees are weed ridden. Anyway, maybe they'll work on that. One other review mentioned it being CLOSE to Butchertown without being IN  it....wrong, it's square in the middle of this great neighborhood.Overall, I'd say Give Naive a try....it's really good and has a relaxed, neighborhood feel. Good: - wide menu variety that accommodates many diets - food is excellent in both presentation and taste - service provided by staff was perfect on my visit - great ambiance; right out of the gate, I felt nothing but good vibes - a decent amount of seating is available for such a small, quaint location Bad: - amazingly, I have nothing bad to report... I can’t even come up with a suggested improvement In my opinion, this recently opened restaurant has knocked it out of the park and deserts a top score. More...

Naive certainly explains the state of the servers. And I certainly won't be back. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's not worth visiting; it's a cute, well put together place. Who ever designed it certainly had an eye for aesthetics. And yes, the food is good. A+ to the chefs. Those details saved this review from being 1-2 stars. But as for the staff being friendly, informative, minutely helpful, or even confident in what they were doing...nah.I felt like I was playing battleship as I was ordering. Hit or miss! Miss. Miss. Miss. I ordered 3 things in a row that they didn't have, and then never received the cava I ordered despite being seated at the bar with only one other diner. I don't care if you're out of something, but maybe take the time to mention it in your first interaction. And a couple of bar tips:You shouldn't be using 5 day old lime (that doesn't really count as fresh squeezed, does it?), And I say that as both a patron and a craft bartender. If your garnish fruits are looking like shriveled little ballsacks, maybe it's time to grab some new ones. More...

First time visit calls for another soon! Bright and clean ambiance. Being a short person, I am not completely comfortable ordering at a bar but the food was worth it! The banana toast with nuts and caramel topping was delicious. My companion ordered the shrimp and root vegetables.  He loved it but it was too spicy for me. We also shared the general tso cauliflower was outstanding.   Definitely will return. More...

I was so excited to eat here upon hearing about the opening and reviewing their menu!  It looked so diverse, clean and fresh with so many options for all food protocols/aversions/allergies! Which means you carnivores can dine with your vegans and everybody is extremely happy!!  The website gave a vibe that read so warm and bright! But none of what I read or pics that I saw even came close to how incredibly mind blowing it is.  As soon as you walk in, you are transported somewhere else...reminiscent of a laid back California beach town.  Immediately feeling the calm as if you are suddenly on vacation.Quickly greeted by a friendly and welcoming staff!  It was a joy to converse with the kitchen back of house staff while inquiring about the different menu items!  Made it feel so personable!  The bar and dining space was very zen, alive with succulents and plants and cozy dining areas that are so warm, you want to curl up all day and absorb the serenity of it all.Let's talk about the food!  We decided on three menu itemsCrispy Fried RiceGeneral Tso's Cauliflower Curry BowlThe presentation was gorgeous with varying colors and textures!  Every harmonious bite was a taste explosion, each one mind blowing in diverse flavor, making the experience magical from first bite to last! I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. Fast-casual style where you order at the bar before sitting down, but they likely need to serve this way because I bet they get so busy!! The restaurant area is gorgeous, light-filled, and includes seating that somehow equally encourages you to pop in for a quick coffee/kombucha or sit and enjoy a group meal for hours. The staff is friendly and clearly obsessed with their own food and drink program. Garlic shrimp were a bit tough (potentially because this place should be known for the vegan/vegetarian options), but the flavors of everything were inventive without being overwhelming. Whoever was in charge of the playlist also should get a few stars (sylvan esso!!). Love. More...

What a wonderful gem as a new addition to the Louisville culinary scene! My husband, our out of town friend and myself came in around 11am on a Sunday to enjoy some well talked about brunch! The restaurant is located in a nice corner on Washington street. As you walk it it's immediately known that this is a comfortable place- highlighting indoor plants, modern space and inviting seating. It was a bit confusing when we entered because the sign stating to order at the counter wasn't as visible as one would like. The lady behind the counter kindly announced to head that direction. The menu is incredibly enticing with healthy and uncommon options. I ordered the egg white breakfast burrito and my husband and his friend each ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito. All came with a side of vegetable hash. Said friend had a medium coffee as well. The total was about $45 for the three of us. We were given a number and told where the fill it yourself water station was located. I found us a nice three person table with some very comfortable chairs next to the bar. (Yes, they have a full bar and have an array of cocktail selections). The coffee was also brought out by a woman behind the bar. The lady that took our order brought out the food. Silverware was not included in delivery so we had to find some and then realized napkins were elsewhere. A little confusing for first timers... I was also thankful I was sitting to see the Garbage, Compost and Recycling station to see where their patrons were putting dishes (which is above said station). I wouldn't have guessed and may have left it elsewhere. The food itself was beyond this world. Tasty and healthy all in one! The egg white burrito was served with some delicious aioli and the chorizo came with a salsa of some type. All of thoroughly enjoyed the food and the entire atmosphere. I even thought the bathroom was cute, clean and quite large. I'll definitely find myself back here very soon! Hope to try more of their amazing menu! More...

Five Word Summary: So Fresh and so CleanI waited impatiently for this place to open. I had experienced their yummy bowls, with what my mind remembers to be chipotle sweet potatoes, at fox hollow farms and i have been craving them since. Now they are open and it is a very nice place. Bright sunny, funky modern bohemian in decor. The food is really good, fresh healthy and it makes you wish there was more. portions are probably what you should be eating but it leave me craving more. I get it, the ingredients are very well taken care of and are not meant to be gorged on, i just like having my cake and eating it too. The blend of american freshness and south american asian inspiration is very refreshing, so fresh, so clean clean. So if you aren't ravenous, this place will let you have your cake and eat it too, but you will still want bigger portions. Alright... before you get mad at my 3 star rating. Let me explain. I really really really love this spot. The location is fantastic and the interior space is so inviting and beautiful to take in. For these two reasons, I will return. However, I just can't give this place 5 stars, due to the fact that I think it's over priced. My friend and I ordered the fettuccine and banana toast. The presentation was pleasing to the eye and the taste was good but the price of these two items and the portion size/taste do not match. Especially since there is no meat in these dishes and the veggies used were not out of the ordinary. I believe the fettuccine was 14-16 dollars and my toast was 9 dollars. I only received once piece of toast. I have attached my photos for comparison. Again the food is good just not good enough for me to crave and want to spend more than what I think the food is worth. If these dishes knocked my socks off.. sure why not! Although, this just wasn't the case. I'll be back for a cup of coffee, just maybe not dinner.P.s just incase someone is thinking I am being a hater because of my diet choices... I just want to throw out there that I have been a vegatarian for the past 8 months and have had my share of vegan/veggie food in the area. More...

Upon entering, you think you've walked into a magazine spread. It's a very nice space with well curated decor. I tried Naive before, when they were just a stand at the Douglas loop farmers market. Well, they've come a LONG way. I guess hiring a chef helped out the food a lot because what I tried the first time did not have me longing for more. I've had the hippy circle, farmers bowl, and tasted the curry bowl and nachos. I'd say I liked 85% of the food I've had. Some dishes were a lot better than others. The hippie circle was probably my least fave because it just didn't taste well seasoned or was that flavorful. Needed more punch, like an acid or more salt. Nachos were great as well as the curry bowl. I also had a virgin green juice, which was nice but small. My friend thought his portion size was small. One complaint I have is some confusion as to how you're supposed to go about ordering, collecting your own silver ware, water and bussing your own table. All of these things are situated in various places of the restaurant and you don't know what you're supposed to do until you've been there a few times. When I ordered the juice, I had no idea where it was coming from or if I fetched it myself or what. You order and get a number for your table and someone brings your food (fast-casual so no server). You tip when you order and pay for your food which I was told is shared amongst the front and back of the house, which is great. I don't understand why I have to bus my own table then? If I'm tipping, I think I shouldn't have to do this and looking at  most of the types of clientele who come (ahem...affluent people), I don't see them wanting to do that either. I'm sorry but with the price point of the food, I don't think I need to be handling dirty dishes. All in all, I'm glad Louisville has a restaurant that serves this kind of food. I like eating more plant based food and enjoy it. The food presentation is on point and makes you want to eat it. A few dishes seem tobe more about presentation rather than taste. I will keep coming back to try more, especially for lunch. More...

I'm rarely surprised by restaurant concepts& this place was super refreshing in this department! The menu is diverse & fun without the air of trying too hard. What a novel idea: a vegetarian restaurant that will cater to carnivores & vegans alike. I'm a total carnivore but love eating healthy so this place delivers exciting options. My friend & I split the tater tots, a must have!!! She got the General Tso's Cauliflower which I will be getting for myself next time! So good! I tried the Superfood Nachos with bbq mushrooms that tasted EXACTLY like pulled pork. It was good but I'd probably just get that as an appetizer for the table next time vs an entree. I also ordered the lemon lavender Kombucha on tap& it was fabulous. I can't wait to go back and try more things! My one complaint, & it's not a game changer, is with self serve restaurants *in general.* Self service can leave you feeling disconnected with a place, wondering what to do, etc. if you don't have to pay waiters more than 2.15 an hour, Why not have a few? & there is tipping at Naive for the people who take your order & deliver your food so But maybe that's just me... It was a perfect portion too, I left extremely satisfied but not too full.A friend of mine had a curry bowl and loved it. There was a pineapple taste to it, I tried a bite and super yummy!Another friend had the banana toast and she couldn't believe it was dairy free - creamy and decadent! I didn't have a drink bc I had to return to work afterwards, but one friend had the seasonal margarita (it has beets to give it a beautiful color and it paired well with the taste of the tequila). Excellent! The food is sooooo delicious and all relatively healthy! We tried the spring pea alfredo, general tsos cauliflower, and the tagine. I would order all three again and there were several other dishes I wanted to try. Most dishes are vegan or vegetarian and all, every single one, sounds interesting! I love the concept of a vegetable forward/ international menu. It's different! Which is great because I feel like the same types of restaurants keep opening in batches in Louisville. Hot chicken, then southern, then Italian. Everything starts to seem the same. But this place is unique and pulls it off. Whether you are a vegetarian or meat eater it's delicious. My only two criticisms are that while the wine was good it was an extremely stingy pour and there is no bike rack More...

We attended one of the soft openings while visiting Louisville. We were blown away by the friendly staff and warm and inviting ambience. While the dishes catered to many specific needs, I particularly liked how I was able to order dishes that were so flavorful yet healthy, such as the cauli flat bread. My husband who typically relies heavily on the meat side of things, was blown away that the superfood nachos were not even meat. (He did state that he really enjoyed the nachos but is still convinced they were meat based). The Arepas were amazing and I really liked that they had Kombucha on tap. It's a shame more places do not exist that are farm to table, organic and affordable. Hopefully the owners will open many more locations in the future. Salut! More...

Wow! What a surprise! I took a day off work last Friday. When I woke up, I felt like I needed to check out one of the new places that had popped up recently. As soon as I remembered Naive, I knew it was the winner. Naive serves plant-based foods with meat options. Of course, I can't live without meat but that doesn't mean I don't ever want to eat tasty veggie dishes. I believe that if there were more options like Naive that more people would give up meat or at least not eat it as much.Since day one they've touted their sustainability model. Sustainable building materials. Biodegradable paper and plastic. Only eco-friendly cleaning products. High pressured heat water system. Minimal waste which includes composting, recycling, and general waste. On their website, they throw in the line that they'd like to only throw away one bag of trash a night. It makes me wish for a board in the restaurant that says "Number of days open: XXX", "Number of trash bags used: XXX".They also have rain barrels with a planned garden in the back. Now I'm not going to sit around and act like I do everything that I can to reduce, reuse, and recycle because I'm human. Most humans waste in some way and the primary reason for my waste is the convenience. With that being said, I admire what Naive is doing. They're a business. Businesses don't have to care and yet they're usually some of the biggest offenders of waste. I have to say I don't think Naive could've picked a better location. They're close enough to Nulu to get that people traffic without being clumped into the trendy area. They're also in the neighborhood and close enough to Butchertown to get that people traffic without being clumped into that up-and-coming area. The restaurant is just the right size too. When you enter, it can be a little confusing. The first thing you see is the bar area. It made me assume that I was supposed to order at the bar. If you're also drinking, you can certainly order your food at the bar but if you're not drinking, ordering at the bar might be a little weird. When you step in the door, look to the right. There are menus on the wall with an additional place to the left for ordering your food. At first, that side of the restaurant looks like the kitchen area so I think my eyes were focused elsewhere. I like the way this place is set up. They have small tables and large tables. You can sit at the bar or they also have a commonplace away from the crowd if you're only enjoying cocktails. Cocktails, a decent spirits collection, wine, and while small, a fair amount of beer in cans or on draft. I decided to go with a cocktail on this visit. I ordered Sexy Elvis. This cocktail is described as "Peanut butter washed bourbon fit for the King" and it includes Heaven Hill + cherry + bitters + blackberry jam(given to you on a spoon). My first peanut butter cocktail was the one at Milkwood. This one adds something with the blackberry jam. Milkwood and now Naive definitely makes me want to try every peanut butter cocktail available in the world. My first bite to eat came from the tater tots. These tater tots have Kenny's smoked gouda and they come with a blueberry kombucha sauce. These aren't your normal tater tots. These are more like tater balls. They're delicious on their own but that blueberry kombucha sauce adds a new taste to them. I chose to alternate my bites with/without the sauce. At the price tag of 5 dollars, you might as well get two or three orders of these delicious things. On to the main course... the Mole Poblano Relleno! I might not ever look at Chile Relleno the same way ever again. This dish was so much better than I thought it would be. The menu says seasonal roasted vegetables so I assume that the veggies on top of this and stuffed inside might change. I'm not exactly sure what was inside the pepper. At first, I thought it was carrots but now that I think about it, I think it was some type of squash or sweet potato. It was so good, I didn't even care what I was eating. The cheese grits were a compliment without overshadowing all of the other flavors. The same with the chimichurri and mole sauce. It was just the right amount of all of it! I could literally have this dish EVERY. SINGLE. DAY! I love Naive. I want to go back and try more of their menu items but honestly, I'm not sure if I'll be able to tear myself away from that Mole Poblano Relleno dish. It really is all that and a bag of potato chips... and the dish doesn't even come with potato chips!I visited early afternoon and my only concern with this place is that it seems like a lunchtime place. Big windows. Plenty of outside light. Easy on the eyes color scheme. All of it encourages me to visit for lunch. I'll have to visit for dinner soon and see how the experience is at the hour of dusk. When it comes to food, Naive is anything but. Plates are flavorful -- not to mention beautiful -- and come packed with creative, healthful twists on traditional fare. Naive used to do catering and work the festival circuit, but opened a bricks-and-mortar in Butchertown, on East Washington, in spring 2018. The space is beautiful, clean and open, with a hip, urban loft kind of vibe. There are tables and booths, bar and couch seating.  The menu is creative, with lots of options for vegans and vegetarians. I've so far been twice, and everything has been delicious. Favorites are the general tso's cauliflower, which comes with crispy kale, and the hippie circle, a plated ring of carrots, cheese-dusted beets, kale and cheese. The space also has a bar and cocktail menu. So far, I've tried the "sexy Elvis," a boozy, peanut butter and jam concoction. Can't wait until they're open for lunch. But for right now, I'm just soooooo happy this place is only a few blocks from my gym and office. More...
