MW Restaurant is another farm-to-table phenomenal foodie safe haven in Honolulu that is making such a buzz you have to go and treat yourself to a decadent meal from beginning to end. The savory local catch/grown apps & entrees, topped off with probably the most amazing desserts the island has to offer makes this restaurant the talk of the town. Please take time to look at the posted pics and really look at the love this restaurant puts into their food. The trademark of the 2 forks making an MW just shows their innovation, thoughtfulness and preparation they put into everything this restaurant has to offerThe front of the house, the bartender and most of all their attitude in delivering a wold class dining service makes MW my favorite restaurant in all of Hawaii. Chef Michelle provided the finishing-touches to see how much we enjoyed our meal. It was truly honor and pleasure to meet her!Recommendation: Shaved Ice is the best on the island. We enjoyed eating here and would love to go back and explore more of the diverse ideas on the menu. The combinations of East and West are intriguing and fun, and reflect a commitment to showcasing the influences of Hawaii and all the great produce grown here. A special of "roast duck on Japanese bread" was typical of the kinds of ideas on the menu. The duck was tender, the spicing kind of Chinese, the mashed potatoes on the side unexpected - a great idea to try. Service was warm and efficient. Wines by the glass were well-chosen. My girlfriend and I ate at MW a couple days ago and loved it. The food was amazing and our server (Deon) was super knowledgeable on the menu and where the different foods came from. A lot of the dishes were locally-sourced. Service was good - timely and there was always someone coming around to fill our water. When we asked for more of the house bread they always brought additional slices.I got the pork ribs and loved them -- I got way more ribs than I thought I was going to get (since most other entrees seemed on the smaller side). 5 stars for the dessert, 4 stars for the rest of the meal.We visited for my birthday based on my husband's parents' recommendation.  The service was awesome- they had a custom menu printed out for my birthday and also gifted us a bag of homemade granola at the end of our meal.We did the 5 course meal and paid for some substitutions.  I wasn't a huge fan of the appetizer trio, as nothing stood out as memorable. Highlights were the miso-honey glazed butterfish and the mochi crusted kampachi.  The miso butterfish was incredibly moist and the miso glaze packed a flavorful punch.  I really enjoyed the mochi crusted kampachi, as it was unlike anything I've ever had before.  The mochi crust on the fish was lightly crisp and paired nicely with the semi-sweet sauce that it came with.I absolutely loved the Tropical Fruit Creamsicle Brulee.  It's a lilikoi (passion fruit) lover's dream.  It came with lilikoi sorbet, tapioca, and diced fruits, topped with the most incredible lilikoi custard, which was bruleed perfectly sugary and crisp.  It's hands down one of my favorite desserts ever, and I am a dessert fiend.  I would come back just to order this dessert, and probably would ask my husband to order his own, just so I wouldn't have to share. My husband finished his meal with the Hibiki Mud Pie.  He's a Japanese Whiskey lover and was SO happy to see this on the menu.  The whiskey flavoring definitely came through on this dessert.  Overall, it was a good meal, but the star of the show was truly the Creamsicle Brulee.  3 months later, I'm still thinking about this dessert. You will never think of fried chicken the same way again. The butterfish with Taegu and watercress is beyond, the mochi crusted kampachi another sure bet, especially if you prefer things a little more savory. The food is really on another level, so if you are looking for a place to celebrate with phenomenal food, this is it. Great experience for a nice date night. We wanted to try so many things, we thought we over ordered but were pleasantly surprised at the portion sizes which were on the smaller side, making it easy to try many dishes without getting too full fast. The fried chicken was boneless and saucy, loved that it was served with lettuce wraps. The sliders were excellent, adorable bite sized little morsels of heaven. The meat was almost sloppy joe style, the flavor was excellent. The seafood paella was different than a typical Spanish paella, more tomato based in flavor. Truffle mashed potatoes were creamy with a perfect hint of truffle. Do NOT skip dessert! The highlight of the meal. We had the banana cream pie which was deconstructed and the chocolate truffle cake, kind of like a hot molten lava cake, divine. Really enjoyed this place. Best meal we had in Honolulu. Off the beaten path a bit, not close to the touristy area. Made reservations for a Sunday night, place was about 75% full. They could add a bit more decor to add to the ambiance a bit. Service was excellent, server knew everything about the menu and was super nice.We ordered the wagyu beef sliders, pork buns, and fried chicken appetizers. They were all excellent. The wagyu beef sliders were almost a sloppy joe consistency, but the flavor was fantastic. They were very small though, almost the size of a macaroon. Pork buns were very tender and flavorful. I would have liked a pickled vegetable added on, but was still tasty without. Fried chicken threw us off a bit. It is shaped into cube forms and you add to make it a lettuce wrap. It was pretty good with a nice sauce added, the pickled veggies in the wrap were a nice touch.Dinner was the seafood paella and truffle mashed potatoes. They were both fantastic. The seafood was so fresh, with lobster, shrimp and scallop. The chorizo also was very good in the paella, the chicken was just ok, could have done without. The rice was almost in a tomato base, which was different from any other paella I've had, but was very good. The mashed potatoes were divine. Whipped and so creamy with truffle flavor. A must if you go.Dessert was the banana cream pie and chocolate cake. The pie came in a cup, interesting presentation, but the ice cream and crust made this the highlight of the desserts. So good. The chocolate cake came out warm with ice cream and a chocolate crisp. Not too shabby itself. We loved this place and would highly recommend. More...

If I could, I'd give this restaurant 10 stars. I am retired from 40 years in the restaurant industry in Honolulu. It takes hard work and good training to achieve what MW Restaurant reflects: excellence. Our group of five decided to go for dinner at MW because it was suggested to me by a friend who was a chef. We made early reservations for a Saturday evening. I hadn't any thoughts of writing a review, so I didn't take any pictures or make notes. But I'll try my best to recount our experience.Upon entering the room, I noticed that it looked nicer than in the photos on Yelp. The tables were draped with white linens and there's a contemporary feel and a simple elegance to the room. There's a full bar with high stools towards the front, and in the back the kitchen pass, or "window," where plates are picked up by the servers is open and visible. The staff are all nicely dressed in black pants, white shirts, and tie. When we walked in the front door we were greeted with genuine, welcoming smiles from the pretty young hostesses and shown to our table. On his initial approach, our server Gio asked if we had been there before. "No," we answered. He gave us a quick and informative background of the restaurant. As I recall, Michelle and Wade Ueoka, the wife-and-husband team are the chefs and owners of MW Restaurant. The cuisine is Pacific Rim, using local farm-to-table ingredients. We ordered drinks and a bottle of wine from a very extensive wine menu. Our bottle of 2016 Cabernet from Chappellet Vineyards of Napa was divine! Gio was very attentive and kept a watchful eye to ensure our glasses were always appropriately filled. A delightful bread was served with our wine accompanied with an amazing sauce. It had too many ingredients for me to remember, but Gio explained it as though he had made it himself. He was a walking Wikipedia of the menu items and the ingredients. Questions were encouraged.  I was truly impressed by his menu knowledge. We ordered two appetizers: Ahi Poke Nachos (you should have this!) and the Adobo Braised Pork Belly and Bao Buns. Both featured a beautiful presentation and were delicious. Every time a staff member set down a plate, the full name and a brief introduction to the item was recited. The menu is innovative, featuring original and inspired selections. I ordered the three-course meal, choosing the Chef's Appetizer Trio, the Seafood Paella, and the Brulee for dessert. The paella had Kona lobster, Kauai shrimp, scallop, abalone, and Arabici sausage. It was very flavorful and perfectly composed. The Tropical Fruit Creamsicle Brulee was delectable and had the perfect burnt sugar crust and reflected the artful imagination of the chefs.  The entrees for the five of us had generous portions, not the slight servings of some fine-dining establishments. You won't leave hungry.I apologize for lack of photos, but there are many to see on Yelp. I look forward to returning and am also interested in experiencing the Happy Hour at the bar. Please do yourself a favor and visit MW Restaurant. More...

OpenTable for the win! Okay, not a review about OpenTable, but I did make my reservation through their website. So convenient! No problems booking a reservation for 2 people on a Wednesday night. MW is located smack-dab in the center of the action. They're across Ala Moana Shopping Center, on Kapiolani, right next to the old Heald College Building (if you know where that is). Or, maybe halfway down the block from the corner Walgreens in town. They do have parking and you can enter from Kapiolani or from Makaloa Street. The restaurant is nice, very well-lit, clean, and the staff is very friendly. Our waiter was amazing. Sorry I didn't catch his name, but he came by periodically to check up on us. Not the overbearing, "can you please leave us alone" type. You know what I mean. We've all experienced that before...Most importantly, the FOOD. I came here specifically for one particular dish because my husband loves it everywhere else: the miso butterfish. He ordered it and he LOVED it. "Best butterfish I've ever had." No kidding. He's such a critic when it comes to miso butterfish, too. I took a bite and it literally melted in my mouth.Of course if you've not such a huge fanatic of miso butterfish, they have other things too. We ordered several appetizers to share: crabcakes, arancini, and poke nachos. The poke nachos were BOMB. I'm salivating just thinking about those poke nachos. During this visit, I didn't order an entree for myself, but I did get caesar salad, and it served its purpose. Don't come here and only get the salad like I did. Try out their other dishes! Very flavorful.Overall, I really enjoyed it. My husband enjoyed it too. It's not cheap, but it's also not super pricy either. On a scale of 1-10 (cause those Yelp dollar signs aren't always the most accurate...), with 10 being on the "break the bank" side, I'd say MW falls somewhere along the 6-7 range. Very subjective standard. We spent about $100 for 3 appetizers, 1 entree, and 1 salad. Make your own judgment :)Enjoy! More...

We're repeat customers several times over and it's always a culinary challenge to find a nice dining spot when our friends visit twice a year. Guys started off with the Kewalo draft ale and moved on to the Pinot gris and Malbec. 2 of us opted for the 3 course tasting menu supplemented by the adobo pork bao buns, ahi poke nachos and house salad. My wife chose her go-to butterfish, our friends had the Bristol Bay scallops and the chicken roulade with fried rice, cousin had the 12 oz. ribeye and I had the paella. Appetizers were just the right serving size for the 5 of us and left room for our entrees and dessert. Check out my photos to get a glimpse of what we feasted on. Throughout our dining staff were attentive without without getting in the way of our lively conversations. Ambiance was casual and not stuffy which is the atmosphere we were looking for. Dessert was a great way to top off our meal and I could see Michelle Karr-Ueoka scurrying around the open kitchen doing her dessert magic act over and over again. Creamsicle brûlée, shave ice, and Kau coffee. Complimentary house-made cookies to go was bonus treat for all. MW has to be one of my favorite restaurants on Oahu. And while I have never gone for dinner, their lunch specials cannot be beat. Whether you are dining in or taking out, you will not leave disappointed. Now my love for MW started with their monchong and it has only grown from there. I have even used them for catering, they are that good! But the monchong is without a doubt my favorite thing on the regular menu. But my favorite thing I have had there has to be the steak they had one day as special. I frequently check to see if they are offering it as a special, despite the fact I no longer work right next door. The staff here is amazing. One of my favorite people on this earth has to be the lunch hostess. She is always on the top of her game and a pleasure to interact with. There was a period of time I was ordering from her everyday for week and she always answered the phone and greeted me by name. It is those kind of interactions that  make this place special. I have tried almost every thing on their lunch take away menu. And everything has been perfection. After the monchong, my favorites are the kalbi or salmon.  I have also tried all three lunch salads and while they are small, the flavor is impeccable. One of my favorite things is when I had them cater an event. They were amazing to work with despite the fact this was very last minute. It was through the event that I got to try their poke nachos, duck quesadilla, pork lumpia, and foie Gras wonton. Everything was amazing, and while usually their is a difference between catered, eat in, and take out at places, here the managed to maintain their impeccable quality. For a fine dining restaurant, this restaurant is more family-friendly, which is great for bringing your kids to dinner. Location is a bit obscure, due to the fact that it is hidden behind a pho place on Kapiolani Boulevard. I was told that the restaurant only did valet, so I parked at Ala Moana Shopping Center to avoid having to pay/tip for parking. The interior of the restaurant has nice aesthetics and includes a small bar area if you prefer to only drink. I was fortunate enough to have made a reservation because the restaurant soon was packed, even for a Thursday night. In terms of food, I decided to order the 3-course menu which costs $65. The appetizer trio was satisfactory but was not shockingly impressive. The tomato bisque was a bit tangy and a little more spicy than what one would expect from this type of soup. For the main course, I chose to pay $15 extra to get the 12 oz. ribeye steak and paid an additional $5 for the truffle flavored mashed potatoes. The steak was juicy and flavorful, and the mushrooms were well-cooked. I enjoyed eating them with the sauce, despite the sauce being a bit too salty for the average consumer. I also enjoyed the creamy texture of the mashed potatoes, but I was disappointed that I could not taste the truffle flavor. If you're not willing to pay the extra charges, go with rice instead. You could also order the 16 oz. ribeye steak from the à la carte menu for $69, which would give you a larger piece of meat for a lower price. For dessert, I picked the "banana cream pie" (the quotations meaning that it came in a cup rather than a slice), which also came with a double chocolate chip cookie. I personally favored the graham crisp with the chocolate pudding at the base, which had a nice crunchy texture. The cookie had bits of macadamia nuts and melted chocolate that oozed out, which I really like in cookies.Despite the overpriced steak and excess in sodium in the entree, I would definitely come back to try other dishes at this restaurant. I'd love to try their bento and/or food from their lunch menu. More...

MW Restaurant is by far the best Hawaiian restaurant I have ever been! I was adamant of going there because of the Worth It series from Buzzfeed (Season 4, fish episode). The Worth It video failed to highlight most of the amazing dining experience was because the staff really take care of you from placing your cloth napkin on your lap to opening up the menu for your hands' grasp (it was only two pages long). I can confirm they do give you an amazing homemade cookie to take home afterwards as seen in the Worth It video. My brother and my mom both got mochi-encrusted fish of the day and tofu respectively. Both taste nicely crunch and appropriately seasoned. I got the seafood bouillabaisse. It was good, although I tended to go back to my brother's and my mom's dishes. The portions are just right (the seafood bouillabaisse may be more than what some people can handle), and all of my family was able to finish their own respective entrees without having to take leftovers home. I actually had room for dessert and really enjoyed my brother's Hawaiian crown "banana cream pie" and my tropical fruit creamsicle brûlée. Been here a few times and never disappointed! They have valet parking, street parking, or ala moana is a close walk. However, this last time we had a reservation around 6:15pm on a Friday and they us self park in front of the restaurant. The restaurant wasn't as busy as I thought it would be on a Friday night, but still glad we had a reservation. For appetizers, we ordered the Unagi and Butterfish Arancini ( ~9 pieces, $15) and the Lobster Kamaboko Sliders (4 pieces, $15). Both were really good and bursting with flavor, but my favorite was the Unagi and Butterfish Arancini. Crispy on the outsides, but so moist and delicious on the inside. The sauce on top was amazing. We also got the Caeser Salad ($10) and the Pickled Local Beet ($12). The Caeser Salad was okay, but nothing special, and probably wouldn't ordered it again. I shared it with someone so it was nice that they split it and put the dressings on the side (I did not want the anchovy dressing so I got an vinaigrette). However, the beet salad was amazing. The goat cheese paired so perfectly with the beets and ume beet vinaigrette! Also their bread is quite good, though the sauce they give it with was not my favorite and I personally preferred to eat it plain. For the entree, I ordered the Miso- Honey Glazed Butterfish ($40), and it was so good! The honey flavor really came through and the fish was soft and moist. I like that they paired it with the pickled veggies and baby bok choy (I wish there was more veggies but we ended up ordered a side of more stir fry chinese veggies +$7 so I was satisfied).Someone else at our table ordered the Ludavico Farms Cage Free Chicken Roulade "Bibimbap" ($30). I tried some of it, and it is a bit spicy (but I am pretty sensitive to spicy things), but still good. The person who ordered it said there was a lot of rice underneath and wish it had a bit more veggies, but otherwise loved it. Another person ordered the Mochi Crusted Kona Kampachi, which was actually on the tasting menu, but was able to order just the entree part. I have had it before and I really liked it (though a bit on the oilier side). She enjoyed it! The last person on our table ordered the Lobster Paella, which he liked, but said it was not as good as his mom's (haha). For dessert (all $12, my favorite part and beautifully plated!), we ordered the Strawberry Shave Ice (came with Haupia Tapioca, Mochi, Vanilla Ice Cream, and Strawberry-Yuzu Sorbet), the Creme Brulee (with Lilikoi Sorbet, Tapioca Pearls, Tropical Fruits, Lilikoi Custard),  MW Candy Bar (Macadamia Nut-Praline Crunch, Salt Caramel, Valrhona Chocolate, Black Sesame Ice Cream), and Banana Cream Pie (with Graham Crisp, Chocolate Pudding, Kinako Banana Ice Cream). All dessert were amazing, with my favorite being the Lilikoi Creme Brulee, sooooo fruity and delicious. The Strawberry Shave Ice is always a favorite, quite refreshing (though I wish there was more mochi and tapioca).  The Candy Bar and Banana Cream Pie were also good, quite sweet, but satisfied that chocolate craving. Overall, a great place for a group get together and while a bit pricier, the service and ambiance is solid. Definitely will be back. More...

Great restaurant. Attention to detail on food and service. Their decor seems simple and elegant because the focus should be on the food! Had the tasting menu and there wasn't a bad thing on the menu. Highly recommended. More...

I was part of a quartet that dined for dinner on 10/13/18 for my Bday celebration.  I was greeted by a menu that said Happy Birthday Jon.  We attended with a couple of locals that had eaten here on multiple occasions.  We were told that M and W were the initials of the chefs that left Allan Wong's restaurant.  The menu did have items that were similar to that restaurant with a slight twist.  We started with appetizers of ahi poke nachos and some clams.  I had the mochi crusted kampachi and the wife had paella.  My fish was delicious but the wife said her paella was okay.  We tried 3 desserts of banana cream pie, shaved ice and tropical crepe brûlée all of which were amazing.  We are definitely going back and would recommend this place! Supposedly the Chef worked in Alan Wong's kitchen and brings a similar sensibility:  fresh local ingredients in an Asian-western fusion style that is nearly always 5 stars on taste.  I like they take chances with new dishes that sometimes don't work.  Only complaint is the glass walls create acoustic echo/noise, so this 61-year-old sometimes struggles with the conversation at my own table.   But it is still one of our 3 favorites in town. We had mid week dinner last night at MW. This was our 2nd visit. We ordered adobo braised pork belly bao for appetizer and it was yummy (tender, flavorful ). Then we shared the pickled beets salad which they split for us. Loved the combo of flavors and colors. Our entree was the steamed opa with Chinese vegetables. Perfect dish to share so we can have dessert. And our dessert was the strawberry shave ice. Again the combination of flavors and textures and colors made the dessert yummy. I like that the server would describe the dish each time they delivered to the table. The service was great (Austin) and whole team.I forgot to mention they gave us each a cookie at the end of the meal as a thank you for our patronage. More...

The food was amazing , but what stood out the most was our server Darin T. He really wanted us to enjoy our experience there. He explained and answered questions like we were doing HIM a favor, and his face lit up when we told him how much we enjoyed every course of the omakase menu. Must return soon!!! More...

I've been here a couple of times. The food is always good, but the desserts at this restaurant are great. The presentation is lovely. I always enjoy coming for the desserts, and look forward to it. The entrees have always been good as well, although they are not the best I've had on the island. The location is in a strip mall/bank parking lot area, near Walmart and Ala's, which is a bit odd, considering the interior of the restaurant and the vibe is upscale. Parking can be a challenge. Very nice for a night out, but it is spendy, and slightly overpriced for what you get. More...

This is honestly some of the best food we've had on the island. Great atmosphere, superb service. An absolute must have - take the time to make a stop here, especially for the happy hour! The small plates are only five dollars and are honestly out of this planet. More...

To be honest I went here because I saw this restaurant on Buzzfeed. When I came to MW, it was a standard experience, the service was great and the food was pretty good. However, the prices are pretty high for what you're paying for. I got the Mochi Crusted Fish which was plain without the sauce and it was small but the dish was good overall. I also tried the Tropical Fruit Creamsicle and the Lilikoi sorbet in the dessert was to overpowering and made everything tastes sour after a while. I would come here again but probably for an occasion such as a date, family party, or work event. More...

Amazing selection of fresh Hawaiian fusion food from the amazing pineapple lemongrass martinis to the mango & fresh greens salad and the roasted fish perfected with perfect little sauces. Even the grilled bread has an amazing dipping sauce. Desserts were fun to share. Only downside for me was the super bright lighting leaving ambiance absent. I guess it's only about the food focus. And the food was excellent. More...
