Went with out of town relatives to show them Brooklyn and it got raves. Escargot was the winner of the appetizers and steak frites, lamb, duck, and mussels were all favorites (but my lamb was the winner. ) Dessert was amazing--the gelato/sorbets were deeply flavored and intense. Warm and charming oasis on edgy Knickerbocker St. in Bushwick. We were seated in the "garden" in the back in the middle of February - and it was great! It's enclosed (obviously) and the floor is gravel. The main area is very lively, charming, and very different in feel, but both dining areas are wonderful. Food is good and a god value, but the kitchen is not terribly efficient. Took us over an hour to get the food and one of the dishes came a full 10 minutes after everyone else was served. I had the steak which was excellent, cooked to exactly the right temperature. My girlfriend had the duck special and loved it as well. Our server, Jessica, was very friendly and attentive. A wonderful May evening to dine in the garden. The cold avocado soup was splendid. Tart with light cucumber undertones and a dollop of cream fresh, it was the perfect Forio to our 90° day sightseeing through Brooklyn. We all followed up with a delicious salad, including goat cheese and roast beets, salad Nicoise which was divine, and a vegetable risotto. We ended the meal with single espressos and shared dense and satisfying flourless chocolate cake and a delightful creme Brulé garnished with strawberries. French rose was plentiful and easily affordable at the cocktails that we started with were refreshing and delightful. A favorite of the table was the Everest, featuring St. Germain and Rosemary. WHAT an amazing meal! And our server, Eric-amazing! Great reccomendations and really sweet. I had read amazing reviews but saw the "C" grade when we walked in and got a WEE BIT freaked out about eating there. ..but decided to let that go as I know often restaurants essentially pay for a better rating from the health department...We had the Feta and Watermelon Salad, Salmon Tartare, Fish of the Day (Hake) with Ratatouille, Roasted Vegetables, and Sweet Potato Gnocchi Gratin. Some of my friends had never had Hake, and LOVED it...and I wanted more Ratatouille SO badly. Like, could have eaten it for days.We had a bottle of wine and some cocktails...and in TOTAL, with leaving a very gracious tip (25%)-we spent $45 a person! THATS IT!And the garden is EPIC! GORGEOUS! As usual, great food and great service. I had the Long Island Duck Breast this time which was cooked to perfection. We were sat on the terrace/patio in the back. It was buzzing back their and they had the French classic Taxi playing on a projection screen.
