Moe’s Original BBQ was founded by three Bama boys: Mike Fernandez from Tuscaloosa, Ben Gilbert from Athens, and Jeff Kennedy from Huntsville. After meeting at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, they instantly became friends and had a mutual interest in all things Southern: BBQ, blues, college football, and whisky.

I was in Johnson City for work so I wanted a place to eat that was good after working in Knoxville for a few days. Every place I ate at in Knoxville couldn’t compare to Moes. Everything was homemade except the bags of chips. I ordered the smoked wings which was recommend by Brittany the waitress. They were freaking AWESOME!!! You get two sides with them. I opted for the Mac n cheese and banana pudding since I don’t eat beef or pork. Those sides were no slouch either! The staff was nice and friendly. Moe's has both excellent barbeque and tasty sides. They rotate them daily through a wide variety of southern favorites. Their banana pudding alone is worth going there for. I get it every time I go. In addition to the food, the atmosphere and service are also top notch. The dining area and bar have a heavy southern vibe with lots of rustic wood. Just what you would expect for a southern barbeque place. I have also found the staff to be pleasant and friendly. Price wise it is in the middle for me. This place exceeded my expectations, and that takes a lot. It's not your typical BBQ place. The food was amazing and you could tell that it was all prepared on site, not precooked, shipped in and assembled. I had the Moe's 'Bama style pulled pork sandwich, beer brazed cabbage and their tomato and cucumber salad. All three were the best I'd ever had. The staff were all very friendly and the prices very competitive and affordable. I will definitely go back and hated that I hadn't stopped by sooner. We are lucky to have them. Never had a bad meal here. Rotating sides menu, lots of great BBQ-type meat entrees. The cornbread is a must, and the variety of BBQ sauces are sure to suit any palate.
