My wife and I hired Mizen to do a lower level build out/garage conversion and we are thrilled with the results. We started the process in typical fashion interviewing multiple contractors and collecting references etc. From the very start Mizen stood out from the rest, knowing that they did an exceptional job with our friend's home put us at ease with the quality of work that we could expect, but we wanted to do our due diligence to ensure whomever we hired would be a solid and communicative partner throughout -- understanding that such a project can turn your world upside down for a significant amount of time. The entire Mizen crew is kind and courteous, which, if you're going to be a "good neighbor" this sometimes is forgotten, yet extremely important, when interviewing contractors. We never once had a compliant, and our neighbors enjoyed the interactions they had with them during the time they were working at our home. From the time we started working with Ciaran and his crew to conceptualize our raw space to putting the last coat of paint on the walls, the team's communication was consistent and collaborative. Every step of the way we were guided through budget conscious decisions while exploring potential areas to splurge. Ciaran and his team are beyond fantastic.  We hired them to do an overhaul of a 1950's house and they were more than we hoped for.  The team was so conscientious;  we did not have to "watch over" them or micro manage the project.  Everything went according to the timelines and budget originally provided - so no unpleasant surprises anywhere.  They provided great advice and the finished product was amazing.  The team was easy to work with, diligent, and very responsive.  Words do not do Ciaran and his team justice.  Highly recommended!! Wow, the Mizen team is fantastic! After receiving a referral from a friend, I hired Mizen to remodel my 1950s bathroom. And boy, what a transformation! ! This team is kind, respectful and responsive. As a woman, I felt safe and considered. The team went above and beyond to make sure the results were to my liking, even installing additional hardware and making touch ups over the course of the project. They were clean, timely and focused. I often felt like I was their priority client even though they had several other jobs, which is a special art. Check out the before and after photos. Mizen.Construction added a closet, ceiling trim, replaced lights and repainted my master bedroom. I was so happy with their team, they showed up on time, kept things very clean and  completed the project on time! They were flexible about minor changes, very thorough and did a top notch job. Mizen.Construction did a project for us on the front steps of our Victorian and we couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. We needed to replace and repaint some areas of the stairs that were impacted by rot. Upon meeting Ciaran and Mark, I was immediately impressed. They took a thorough look at the area and discussed different approaches and options. They quickly put together a clear, competitive bid. We chose to go with them based on their professionalism and communication, and in the end we knew we'd made the right choice. Each person we met on the crew was timely, friendly, courteous, and neat in their work. Really nice people to be around (which makes a difference when people are working on your home). Katie the office manager kept up communication throughout the process. Mizen.Construction completed our project exactly as expected, in the timeframe they planned, and on budget. Ciaran/Mark and his crew were top notch.  They brought the project in on time and on budget...unheard of in the realm of contracting.  The project involved 4 bathrooms, a kitchen and 5 bedrooms in a older home so it was pretty substantial.  They started and finished the project in 4 months....our friends were amazed at the timing and the cost.  We had looked at other contractors that quoted 2-4X the time and 3X the timeline.We've used Mizen since to build a fence, deck, driveway/flower box and will use them again in the future. My wife and I hired Mizen Construction for a full remodel of our bathrooms and the whole experience went really well. Ciaran and Mark provided us with a competitive bid, a clear estimate, and a reasonable timeline. We found Mizen on Yelp, but we took bids from five different contractors (referrals and cold calls). Ciaran was the most professional contractor that we met with and more importantly, he gave us the most clarity on what was needed for the project. We already had a bathroom design in hand, but there were some early issues with it, and Ciaran and his crew were great about finding the best solutions while staying within our original budget. The whole experience with Mizen was what we wanted, but the most impressive thing about Ciaran and Mark is that they hire really good people. You can see pictures and get follow-up references, but you're never really sure about subcontractors until you get into the mix. Mizen's own crew and all of the various subcontractors were friendly, creative and talented. There were no exceptions, they were all fantastic. They showed up when we expected and they kept everything clean and orderly. Everyone was focused on the smaller details, and whenever anything went wrong, there was never any question we'd find a really satisfying solution. All of that said, we were just really impressed with how Ciaran and Mark have found so many genuinely nice guys to work with. I've worked with a lot of contractors on various remodeling / home repair projects over the last few years and Ciaran and Mark from Mizen are some of the best I've met. After our wood front stairs started to rot and crack (they were poorly built originally), we needed them to be repaired or replaced.  We also needed them waterproofed (they had been a source of leaks in to our basement) and so we wanted them replaced with stone steps.  I got many bids from contractors and almost all of them wanted to completely tear down the steps and rebuild from scratch, which would've cost a TON of money and required tons of paperwork and time.  Ciaran and Mark, however, immediately said that it would be crazy to replace the entire steps when most of the framing and siding was still good.  They proposed simply ripping out all of the rotted treads, supports, and siding and replacing it with new, then rebuilding the handrails from scratch (they were rotting as well and not up to code) and, finally, laying down stone on top of that.Their bid came in at a totally reasonable price.  I asked for references and contacted all 4 that they provided.  All had incredibly positive things to say about them so I pulled the trigger.  The very next day Ciaran got everything in order (permits, etc) so they could get started the following Monday.  The promptness was very impressive.  Throughout the project, they were on top of every issue that came up and were at the job site checking on the progress every day.  Communication was a breeze as they were always quick to respond to my questions.  In addition, when I asked them to do some additional work (we decided to replace the front door at the same time) they were able to add on the extra work at a price that was more than fair.An awesome experience from start to finish.  I was truly impressed with the quality of the work and we absolutely love our new front steps.  Without question, we'll be using these guys for all of our general contracting needs going forward. We hired Ciaran and Mark for a small but complicated renovation of our 1906 home. They were great! Trustworthy, responsive, and quality contractors, that came in on time and on budget. I work with a lot of builders and these are some the best that i have come across in 10 years of construction. There team is  also great.  We were home with 2 young kids for a portion of the renovation and MIzen accommodated for us perfectly making it a much easier and low stress environment.  Would highly recommend them. My wife and I worked with Mizen on a full-home renovation from Dec 2015 to May 2016. The project included structural changes, adding a bedroom and bathroom, and a partial seismic upgrade to the house. The project was led by Ciaran Maloney and Mark Lucy and involved a great crew. We have tons of positive things to say about these guys. They did fantastic work on the house and provided great client service at a fair price. They worked quickly and efficiently to stick to both our timeline and budget. They also added some personal touches to the design by reclaiming original redwood from removed walls to create custom bench seating, which turned out very beautiful.The communication was strong and, as other reviewers have said, we felt very comfortable trusting them throughout the project. Ciaran and his crew from Mizen are absolutely top-notch. We hired them for a complex, multi-unit renovation of our beloved 1920's era flats in the city. This involved everything from foundation and seismic work to full demolition and rebuilding of every aspect of the home. For one of the units this meant restoring complicated curved ceilings and original gumwood trim - done to perfection.
