Miele's Italian

My Bride and I had dinner at Miele's last night (9/6/19 around 7:00pm). This restaurant is not in our normal circle but I like to take my Bride to new Italian restaurants that are not part of a chain. As we took our seats I hoped the meal would be up to my Italian wife's standards. To my delight she thoroughly enjoyed the cheese ravioli. With her entree  came a delightful dinner salad. I had an Italian soup which had spinach, chicken broth and an egg cooked in it. I believe it's called stracciatella. I don't like cooked spinach. BUT, that soup was GREAT! I plan on making this place part of our regular Eating Out haunts. I must say that if you are looking for fast food you probably won't find it here. I think this is because the prepare every meal using some main ingredients probably prepared and the rest made when you order it. Oh yeah, they make their own cheese cake and tiramisu. If there were a way to give this place more than five stars, I would do so.Friday night, July 26, Hubby and I had occasion to try to find some decent Italian food in the Mesa/Gilbert/Tempe, Chandler area.  Most of the places that kept popping up on my 'net search were primarily pizza, which we weren't in the mood for.  I finally latched onto Miele's and we decided to give it a try.  And I am oh, so glad, we did.We were greeted by Garrett, who escorted us to the dining area and allowed us to choose our tale, and he took our drink order.  (Aside:  this was about 4:15 p.m. and aside from a party in the banquet room, we were the only people in the place.)  We discussed the menu, he answered some questions, and we ordered our dinner.  We were visiting from Albuquerque area and asked about their Bruschetta, but didn't order any, as we thought the bread, salads, and entrees would be sufficient.  A few minutes later, Garrett brought an order of Bruschetta to the table, as we wanted us to try it and said it was his treat.  We finished it off, as it was delicious.Salads are crisp and cold.  The ranch dressing is obviously house-made, as is the Italian, which is a little more viscous than other Italians I have eaten.  They were both delicious.Then Garrett brought out the entrees!  My chicken marsala is, without a doubt, the best I have ever eaten.  (I can only hope that my friend Joe in Rio Rancho doesn't read this.)  The chicken was tender, the mushrooms were plentiful, and the sauce was exquisite.  Hubby's lasagna was, he said, delicious and such a large portion.We both brought half of our entrees home to Rio Rancho and enjoyed another "visit" to Miele's on Saturday night.This place is a gem stuck in a strip center on a main street.  I would think that the owners would want to find a nice free-standing building somewhere with a little more external atmosphere.  The inside of the restaurant is beautiful, with lovely art on the walls (most for sale too) and quiet music playing.  Garrett's service was almost perfect, and he is truly an asset to this eatery.  If the occasion arises to be back in the area, we'll be back to Miele's!! I drove quite a distance to try Miele's.  The place is huge as it also does events/catering.  They have a separate area for that.  Within 10 minutes we receive hot, super tasty freshly made bread.  The olive oil on the table was of such good quality that we used it to dunk the bread (instead of butter). We also used the Yelp check-in for the free garlic knots. When the knots arrived they were amazing--fresh, big, full of garlic with a delicious marinara sauce.  Most dinners come with a side of pasta and a salad.  Very nice considering most restaurants charge for a side salad.  I ordered the shrimp parmigiana which was only on the lunch menu but they agreed to make it.  It looked delicious and tasted even better.  A great dish.Hubby had the chicken marsala with two chicken breasts and mushrooms and it was delectable.  He love how perfectly cooked the chicken was--fork tender.  We cleaned our plates!  We saw the chocolate torte on the dessert menu and decided to share one.  It was dark chocolate with chocolate mousse inside and ganache on the outside with drizzles of chocolate and carmel sauce.  Fantastic cake.  Throughout the time we were there, our server, Garrett, was a fantastic server.  Always checking on us, refilling waters and accommodating our requests.  He contributed to making our first meal at Miele's absolutely great. What a great local find.  There are many entree and appetizer choices and the prices are very fair.  They have a nice selection of wines including last call specials on bottles for $15 per bottle.  The best part is that we were not rushed.  I dislike having my entree put down before I finish the appetizer- doesn't everyone!!  We will return here!! I haven't been into the restaurant yet but have ordered from delivery providers many many times for this restaurant. I am not a fan of Italian food in general to be honest however I have to say I LOVE the food from Miele's. The menu has a fantastic mix of everything and nothing is too heavy, even things you think will weigh you down are perfect and don't. Flavors are great and I've NEVER had anything cooked anything less than perfect. It's a stunning mix of delicious combinations, well cooked food, flavors, and textures. Tonight I made the mistake of ordering from Grubhub, who 2.5 hours later decided they weren't coming to deliver (despite the food being made) although they tried to say it had already been delivered. I spoke with a server named Garrett who although it was prime busy time on a Friday night and I'm quite sure was slammed, went to check and confirm the order hadn't been picked up and was super patient, kind, and understanding also arranging to call Grubhub so they knew the order was assuredly still there. In the end Grubhub screwed me. I started placing the order with UberEats but decided to call before I did so just to make sure they knew I wasn't being a jerk or trying to mess with them. I spoke with Rich, the manager, and Garrett had let him know the situation already and he couldnt have been kinder or more understanding to me. They made everything fresh and threw in a couple extras even though nothing had been their fault but purely Grubhub's incompetence. They rushed the order and everything was AMAZING, better than expected if that's even possible. Miele's is the ONLY place I'll do Italian PERIOD. The food is absolutely stellar and I knew they were nice but tonight they proved that customer service is a top priority and I can't recommend them more!!! Food definitely a 10/10. What a find! My friend Patti was nearby yesterday to Miele's on Guadalupe west of Dobson and decided to have lunch there for the first time. She had a wonderful lunch there. Today she took me there for lunch. I loved it! Miele's is a hidden gem! I would never have guessed it was a marvelous, quaint, adorable, delicious Italian restaurant inside. Italian music played in the background (which is better than the radios most ethnic restaurants play), it was decorated with green and purple grapevines inside, red tablecloths, very nice atmosphere where you could spend time with friends over some coffee and tiramisu or cannoli's. I've enjoyed Miele's for several years.  Last weekend, I enjoyed a shrimp cocktail appetizer, fresh bread with the dipping oil & balsamic vinegar, entrée was smoked gouda ravioli with sun dried tomato, and we took home a slice of caramel turtle cheesecake.    My partner had a shrimp and ricotta ravioli.  Both were d-lish!! We had a nontraditional memorial service in Miele's banquet room recently and the service by the staff was amazing. They went above and beyond to accommodate our requests. Jeff and Rich were great every step of the way. While our focus was not the food it was also wonderful. More restaurants and event places need to take notes from Miele's. Seems to be the theme. Lunch on Sunday . From start to finish 2 hours. Really? Ugh. Ordered 2 appetizers..... server kept coming over and asking if we were ready to order ( our main course). I never order main until I receive my appetizer. After the 4 th time he asked.... I actually said.." did we order appetizers?" Because at that point...I thought he forgot or never told the kitchen. He said... yes... you did. Uh... okay then. No I'm not ready. FYI ordered the garlic knots and fried zucchini. Not exactly a time consuming app. ( like escargot etc). He did approach and say the knots  were taking awhile. When both arrived..... as I had figured.... zucchini was luke warm. Why wouldn't you bring them out when they were done? So odd. Finished appetizers and then received the salads. They were very good. However at this point..... our drinks were empty..... and our dishes were pushed to the end of the table. Our server ( Rich) walked by several times....nothing. Luckily I flagged down Garrett. He promptly removed the old dishes and got us fresh drinks. He really was a nice young man and I watched him interact with customers. Our server was literally going up to new arrivals and just saying" You ready to order?". Gee. How about welcome? My name is.....Can I get you a beverage? Says he's there 10 years? Okay. We used to go to the original Miele's and just loved it. We moved further away and it was our first time at the newer place. We love the food as always!! It's amazing... but honestly..... service and timing.... there needs to be a manager on duty to expedite. A woman did come in about 1 pm and she had a pad and pen. Took some drink orders from one table then didn't see her again. We will be back because the food. But if it's the same waiting thing... that will be the last. We always give places a second try. Good food takes time, and if you go into this restaurant expecting a 30 minute meal, this isn't the place for you. However, if you want great Italian food, everything on the menu is a hit from the pasta dishes to the entrees to the pizza. Also the house Italian salad dressing is so delicious. Sometimes looks can be deceiving.  From the outside, it looks very drab and not inviting.  You can't tell what the place is unless you're looking for it.  Inside, it's mildly decorated and seems rather old.  Or they simply try to cater to too many options (not only dinner service but banquets and wedding rehearsal events).If you're not too hung up on looks, continue reading. Servers tend to diners quickly and with a friendly attitude.  They start with fresh baked bread, and oil and vinegar for dipping.  Dinner is clearly fixed when you order as it does take a little time.  Truthfully, I have only ordered one thing each time I have been here.  That is the Butternut Squash Ravioli.  Each time, I mutter "best f***ing butternut squash ravioli ever". It is flavorful, fresh, and warms my heart and soul.  The portion is quite large, so I have yet to make it to dessert.  Give it a try next time you're in Mesa.  You'll never go to Olive Garden again. LOVE THIS RESTAURANT! I should have wrote a review three years ago, but just now got around to this!!  The food is awesome and I'm a bit of an Italian food snob! Although it never looks open, it is and I'm glad! I suggest eating in, seems better than take out for some reason. However, the wait time is a bit long, so don't go starving. Great food at reasonable prices. Fried calmari excellent, fresh, tender, only needed some lemon - we will save the excellent marinara for later. Garlic knots good, but they need better control over doneness, some pretty dark  Bread also burned on the bottom. Pizza very good although they need spicier pepperoni. This place is hidden & you can't tell if it's open or closed because of the small sign that's not working properly.The service was slow but very friendly. Food was mostly ok. It needs just a little touch to make it perfect.The pink sauce was little too much over powered by the marinara sauce & not enough cream & little too thick.Shrimp size was on point!Clams were chopped up & had a lot of flavor but would have liked it better if clam was in a whole.Ravioli was suffed well with so much flavor. We reserved the banquet room for a group of 24 and ordered off the menu. In all fairness, they warned us that with that sized group, they could not serve all meals at the same time.  So service was spotty, but the serving team remained positive and attentive. The menu is extensive, and I salivated over everything coming into the room. I ordered the garlic knots to share with a glass of Malbec. They were yummy and plenty to share with friends. The entrees came with salads, which were crispy and cold. My friend ordered a calzone that looked amazing! I ordered the butternut squash ravioli, which was served with a white sauce.  The whole thing melted in my mouth! This place is amazing. My toddler and I grabbed a quick bite on our way home. Our waiter, Garrett, was extremely accommodating, polite, and thoughtful. Prices are very reasonable. The garlic knots were delicious, and the marinara tasted homemade. Meals include salad and bread with your choice of olive/vinegar, butter, or both. I was impressed with whatever oil/vinegar they used. You can tell they put a lot of thought into their food (in a great way). We had the cesar salad and fettuccini alfredo, which were both delicious as well. My husband and I will be returning next weekend for our elopement dinner! This is so far the best Italian food i have had in Phoenix. The order was delivered quickly. They handled it like professionals. The food was hot and was delicious. We got another chance to have food on location other day. We got galic bread with cheese and mpzzarella sticks. Both were oven hot and delicious. The gralic bread was made with homemade bread. This place looks a little worrying at first but if you want a quiet place to enjoy some really good Italian food this is the place. They have very good bread and salad with each meal which is really nice. For the pasta they have a lot of choices and all the ones I have tried have been really good. When people ask for a good Italian food place this is the one I recommend.
