I'm a huge fan of queso fundido and this place did not disappoint!!! I was in chorizo and cheese heaven!!! I ordered a shrimp taco, which to my surprise the shrimp was huge and very tasty. My hot date ordered a cachetada...which I was about to give him because he should of brought me here sooner!!!! I lived in the neighborhood and went to Mexicali all the time. Seriously some of my favorite Mexican food in DTLA. I usually go for the Mexicali Burrito but I love the Vampiro too. For tacos the carnitas and shrimp are the best imo. Parking can be tough but there are meters that are free after 6 in front and most of the meters across the street by the school are available in the evening. More...

I've been a huge fan of Mexicali for a long time - their cachetadas (crunchy tostada, melted cheese, meat, chipotle aioli) are an iconic LA dish for me, and everything from the tortillas to the salsas to the meats and aguas frescas are always on point. But I'm writing this review specifically for their event catering side - they're spectacular! Paul and the whole team were incredibly efficient, professional, helpful, and communicative in the lead-up to our wedding. On the day of the event, they were on time, fast, and - most importantly - the tacos were as delicious as always! Im from Mexicali and eating tacos here always transports me there. Cant go wrong with anything here but for a taste of real Mexicali I recommend the asada taco on a flour tortilla and the shrimp taco also on flour. Who would of know about this place, I visit LA frequently and love to hit all the taco spots throughout the cities! Surprising this place was pretty good, definitely very clean great customer service and I love the fact that you can get out of the heat and just sit down and relax! If you're in downtown LA and find yourself around this place definitely try it out you won't be disappointed. Stopped into this Mexican place by accident. Was surprisingly happy with the food. We try every kind of taco and all were full of flavor. The scrimp taco was very delicious. Â The dining area is small and they only have hard wood benches to sit on. Would probably give it five stars if the seating was better. Staff was friendly and the food was out fast.
