Mayur Cuisine of India

I was craving Indian food and saw that Mayur had a very reasonably-priced lunch buffet. Off I went to get me some curry! The garlic naan was hot and delicious and they brought a large portion along with a refreshing cucumber tomato cabbage salad. And everything from the rice, to the peas to the chicken curry dish was hot and well-presented, I ended up wishing I'd just ordered the tikka masala and palak paneer with some raita and naan from the menu. While the food quality is very good and the price of the buffet is very reasonable I left feeling like my Indian food itch wasn't quite scratched. If that buffet had more of their signature bestsellers on it every day, I have a feeling the place would be mobbed at lunchtime. For the price though I can't complain. The quality is very high. Maybe my favorites are served on a different day.I would love a lunch special (and maybe there is and I don't know about it) that lets me pick my favorite dishes in a lunch-sized and priced portion. We were in the mood for Indian cuisine over the weekend and we caught this place towards the end of lunch hours.  First time trying this place but I was pleasantly satisfied with the food and service.  The food is very flavorful and delicious.  We ordered Kachumer Salad, Lamb Karahi, Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Naan.  Garlic naan was really hot and fresh along with all three of the dishes.  It's quality made food, well prepared. It is hard for me to put into words the experience we had at Mayur. To sum it up, this was the BEST dining experience I have had all year, maybe even longer. It was by far the best Indian food I have ever had. I was talking about Michelin stars while I was eating it and I'm not exaggerating. LOVE this place!You'll have to come during the weekday all you can eat buffet because wow, the food is worth it and you'll get an amazing deal for it at just $14. 95!My coworker and I decided to come here for lunch one day because we were craving chicken tikka masala and the Indian restaurant near UC Irvine was relatively mediocre. We were super excited to find this restaurant off Pacific Coast Highway so we ventured out to try it. The lunch buffet differs daily but the chicken tikka masala is always served Monday, Wednesday, and friday. Depending on the day you go, the other offerings will vary but you will only get 3 different entrees to choose from along with rice. I cannot remember what other entrees they had on a Friday but I believe paneer was one of them. Parking at this restaurant is pretty slim. There's street parking off PCH and a very tiny parking lot that is free. The restaurant is very small and it's usually never busy when we go, but honestly I prefer it that way. The lighting, however, is a bit dim during lunch time and they don't use air conditioning for those who get a little warm without it. The windows are wide open to let the breeze come in. APPETIZERSSide salad and garlic naan -- these were both so delicious! The salad comes with a sort of vinegar dressing (not vinaigrette) and the garlic naan is made fresh to order. Seriously, I would load up on this if I could!ENTREESChicken tikka masala -- O M G amazing!!! Seriously one of the best I have ever had. Hands down. The sauce is the perfect amount of mild spice and the chicken is plump and juicy. Every bite is like heaven. Paneer -- I had never had this before but I thought it was absolutely delicious. I love the ginger as well cuz it gives it a bit of a kick. DESSERTRice pudding -- also delicious and comes with the buffet, so it is complimentary!Overall, I had such a pleasant experience here and thought it was really sweet that the owner herself came out to ask how the food was. This is the best Indian food I had! Food and server was excellent! I brought my colleagues to have lunch here. The server recommended all the dishes we ate and we loved every dish! My colleagues were happy and I really appreciate the service Nahin gave us! One of my guest even joke with Nahin. Your parents should name you "Ten" instead of "Nine." Lunch buffet too! While visiting Newport Beach, we found Mayur Indian restaurant. It was absolutely delicious. We went for dinner and liked it so much we went back to their lunch buffet the next day.  The food is fresh and definitely a cut above most buffets. Went to Mayur for dinner with extended family and had a feast. Every dish was piping hot and so flavorful. Everything we had with lamb in it was amazing. Good location.Great service (to the extent that they don't wait for you to point out or complain, rather the manager saw one dish untouched and asked if everything was okay) such attention to detail matters. Poppadums (or as the real word is Papad), we're spicy in a good way, that makes you urge for the raita (yogurt) and achar (pickles)Lamb chops are heavenly. Cooked to a medium well temperature, remains moist with all the flavours inside, the keep the chops joined so that flavuor stays. Chicken biryani is really good, but could do better with more rice and a little less chicken so that there is balance in every bite. However, I understand that many other people would ask for more chicken as a sign to get the most out of what they paid for (consumer greed)Daal makhani was rich in butter and the saltiness was at a perfect level. While the daal makhani (lentils) are done with black lentils and kidney beans, I would try it next time without the kidney beans. Chicken makhani or Butter chicken is supposed to have a tint of sweetness to it along with the saltiness. However, the chicken makhani tasted more like chicken tikka masala, being more powerful towards the saltiness and spice. I highly recommend the paratha, which are nice and crisp. Food is so delicious. This is my 2nd time and I love it. The buffet is small with only a few entrees but it is done with such quality meats and veggies that you don't need any fillers. The rice is cooked to perfection and the salad is also crunchy and delish. It's $15 and I feel it's worth it. The server is named Rigo and is so pleasant. The last time I was here, which was my first time, he explained the dishes to me, ran over what they served on each day of the buffet and gave me a vip card to bring my daughter back. Dinning at Mayur is wonderful! From the food and the classy inviting atmosphere to the personalized service.  I go with my boyfriend almost every week!  We love starting with the quinoa salad, with avocado, cranberries and tamarind dressing, and some garlic or Keema naan, along with mint and mango chutney.  For entrees we have many favorites, such as the Chilean sea bass (so delicate...) and the lamb chops, both made in the tandoor.  Also, the lamb vindaloo is amazing, as well as any of the curries, chicken tikka masala, palak paneer, bartha (roasted eggplant), yellow and black lentils ... I can just go on... And then for dessert, there is a plethora of great options: pistachio or coconut ice cream, Indian ice cream, chocolate balls, or simply a comforting turmeric latte.  Of course, the night goes best accompanied by a few glasses of Miome or Educated guess wine.  Anju, the owner, is a sweetheart.  She and her staff make every visit very pleasant.  Hope you enjoy it as much as we do...3/10 update: Went to Mayur last night and wanted to share my experience... We have been coming to Mayur for special occasions over the last 5 years. I'm way over due for a review. The ambience is intimate and classy. Mayur is the freshest, most authentic Indian food I have ever had and I've had a lot :) The options from many regions of India ensure there's something for everyone. The staff and owner, Anju go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and to provide you with a wonderful food experience. Our favorites are the lamb, sea bass, dal makhani, okra, eggplant, pretty much everything. My kids begged for more samosas, mango lassi and naan. WOW! I just found the best (tasting)lunch deal in town.  Mayur is known as one of the finest Indian Restaurants in Southern California, and I stop in anytime I'm in the area. As an Indian food aficionado, I often try out new Indian Restaurants whenever I travel. I've found that even the best Indian places in London cannot beat the food at this little jewel here in CDM.As luck would have it, the waiter recommended that I try their new Buffet for a change.  Mind you, I usually hate Buffets, because they tend to taste like warmed over left overs. I was in for a delightful surprise, because, not only was the food piping hot, but each of the three offerings was terrific. Wednesday's buffet menu consisted of Chicken Sag, (Chicken breast in a rich spinach sauce) Tarka Dal (a vegetarian delight made of golden yellow lentils), and Bharta (the Owner's own recipe of eggplant and their family's special combination of Indian spices- I've never found a better Bharta served anywhere).  All that, plus made to order Naan (Indian flat breads) I chose my favorite, Garlic naan, that arrived at my table, piping hot from the Tandoori, and freshly made Mint Chutney and a dish of spicy, crunchy pickles that added a nice top note as a condiment, plus a salad to boot!For $14.95 this Brunch, served for lunch, Monday thru Friday from 11:30-2:30 simply can't be beat!Hopefully, this buffet special that just was introduced, will be around for awhile, because it affords me the opportunity to try different dishes then my usual fare, and having gone for lunch brunch only once I already have two new favorite dishes.  Highly recommended!I'll be back for sure. I think this is a terrific restaurant. The owner is a gracious woman committed to ensuring that you enjoyed your experience. By far and away, the best Indian restaurant in Orange County. And yes, I've tested a lot of them. But this is the one I feel is the most authentic, the one most faithful to the highest standards of Mughlai cuisine. The atmosphere is serene and conversation-friendly. The waiters are accommodating. And the owner is a lovely cultured woman. But it is the food itself that is the real star (actually five stars). I have been to Mayur many times and have never had a bad meal. My own particular favorite is Chicken Vindaloo, often a palate destroyer in other restaurants, but at this one, a delicate, tempting compilation of spicy and saucy. The tikka masalas, tandooris, and curries are exceptional, the papadams are peppery prodigies, the naan an ever-tempting morsel, and the side dishes and salads are uniformly excellent. Four of us just recently had lunch there and it was the best Indian food we have ever had. We had the most delicious Mulligatawny soup and lamb Kabahi any of us have ever had. We also enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Masala and Naan. I only wished we had discovered it sooner so we could have eaten there a number of times before we had to head home.
