Hey! I'm Max. I offer personal training online and at my NEW studio in Maynard, MA. This is my 10th year working for myself training people.

At Big Work Training Studio, my business model is simple -- through consistency and individualization, I use my expertise to provide in-person personal fitness training, online fitness programs, and fitness nutrition recommendations that allow my clients to get in the best shape of their lives.

Max and I worked together for about 8 months (Aug 2018 - March 2019). During this time, I found Max to knowledgeable, reliable and he was conscientious of my lifestyle and health/fitness goals. My focus was on core and lower body strength and Max did a great job of creating workouts geared towards my goals. He really created an overall fitness program personalized to me with exercises and activities I could do on the days that I worked out alone. I learned new exercises and how to perform them correctly. I found my workouts to be diverse, interesting and challenging, but do-able. Max was always supportive, entertaining and fun to be around. With Max’s program, I do believe that I was in the best shape I have been in during my adult life and working out with him was fun.
In addition to getting strong and into shape, one of my goals for my time with Max was to establish the confidence and knowledge to maintain a workout regimen and a healthier lifestyle on my own. I now feel confident in the gym, my self-image has improved significantly and I have created healthy habits that have stuck with me. Max also created a workout program for me to continue now that our time has ended with activities that are sustainable to my lifestyle/interests and he continues to be supportive to my health and fitness goals. Working out with Max is so much fun that it's like working out with your buddy that you haven't seen in a while. Not only he's well versed in body mechanics and science behind workout, he's also really friendly and knows that working out is not just about your physical health but also your mental health. He keeps a track of your progress and is prepared to make changes based on your needs, if need be. I have never regularly worked out in my life until I started training with Max. Training with him made me realize that exercise doesn't have to be intimidating/frustrating because if you do it right you can see/feel the progress, and It's not an enigma, which many people think it to be. I trained with him for about 6months and would have trained longer but I had to move. Through my training with him, I was able to gain adequate body mass, which was my aim. Training with him was so much fun/influential that I have continued working out by myself, under his continued guidance (to reiterate: I have never worked out by myself in my life until I trained with Max). I would highly recommend him to everybody on this planet, as you will not only find a well-versed professional trainer in him but also a good human and a friend. Max not only got me into great shape, he taught me how to properly lift weights and workout correctly. I had developed bad form in the use of my knees and in my running that actually made me susceptible to injury. Max was able to help me correct my form. I now have less pain in my back and knees and feel confident on the field. I have used what he taught me into college and have managed to stay in shape. Max is the best. More...

Our 11 year old son tore his ACL playing basketball two years ago. We were introduced to Max when our son was ready to begin strengthening his legs and core again and learning how to prevent further injuries. We could not have asked for a greater match! One of the best decisions I have made was beginning to train with Max. He far exceeded my expectations as trainer. From form, to nutrition and everything in between he has been there with answers and is always willing to put in the extra time to make sure all my questions are answered and accounted for. Max is everything you want in a trainer. He's KNOWLEDGABLE - Max is educated, certified and accomplished, yet he's constantly growing and expanding in his craft (including fitness, nutrition, and maintenance/recovery). He's ADAPTABLE - there have been days where I walked into the gym, Max had already prepared a routine for the hour, but if there was something wrong with me that I either knew of going into the session, or if it came up during the session, Max was able to adjust the routine in such a way that it kept me safe, but I still left the gym feeling like I got in a good day's work. He's AFFABLE - you've never met a nicer or more charismatic guy than Max. Trust me. All I can say is that this man changed my life. I was 15 going on 16 years old weighing a whopping 300 pounds. I was not happy with the way I looked and I wanted to change my body. I started working out with Max on July 27th 2016 and worked out with him until he sadly had to move to North Carolina with the love of his life. Now even though he's not my trainer anymore I am still so happy for him and I am so grateful that he helped me lose 70 pounds in 1 year. I can honestly say I am so much more happy with myself and the one thing I loved about Max was that he treated me like a brother. Not just client. He made me feel welcomed into the gym and made me feel better about myself each time I cam to the gym. Max is an awesome trainer and friend. I started seeing Max for my own personal fitness and to help with some back issues. I went through PT previously and it helped a little, but Max helped me really work on back exercises to help with the pain . Aside from random flare ups, I can say Max definitely helped me stay pain free. I believe Max takes an holistic approach to his training. Strong body and strong mind. He also takes a real concern with you as a person beyond the fitness. Training with Max has been a great experience so far. I don't know how he does it, but he keeps pushing me to the limit every session. I often surprise myself what I'm able to accomplish during our training sessions. I've worked out with other trainers in the past from other gyms, and by far, Max is the best and actually able to explain why we do everything we do. I cannot say enough about how great it's been working with Max for the last 15 months or so. Over the last year+ I started to train with Max because I wanted to get leaner and stronger. After a few months, and learning from him about what powerlifting is, I knew I wanted to start training as a powerlifter. Max helped me dial in my nutrition and taught me how macro nutrition plays such a key role in weight maintenance and gains. I competed in my first competition about 6 months later. I took first place in my weight class and hit a personal record for my deadlift at the meet. Right about that time I found out I was pregnant and Max didn't blink an eye when I let him know I wanted to keep training. His enthusiasm for my goals as a powerlifter or a "weight gain enthusiast" as we've jokingly called my pregnancy, never faltered and he's done an amazing job learning everything he can to help me stay fit and strong while still being safe as my pregnancy progressed. Now at 8 months pregnant, I feel amazing and am so happy I've continued my training throughout this time.
Max is more than a trainer, he's there for his clients day and night, going above and beyond the hour spent with him a few times a week. I would highly recommend him to anyone, regardless of your current fitness level or goals, he takes the time to learn about you.

When I became serious about my health and fitness, there was only one person I knew who could deliver results. Over the past 2 years, Max has helped me transform my body. Through his online programming and nutritional counseling, I learned how to eat, exercise, and train my body. My husband and I trained with Max for just under one year. We never used a trainer before Max; so expectations were pretty much needing to A) have accountability/motivation and B) get in better shape, and C) work around some of our physical problems. Max was always cheery (even at 4:30am sessions!!), very accommodating, and knowledgeable. He found plenty of ways to train even when I had low back, hip, and knee issues; all while still challenging my husband. He also helped out with nutritional advice; which I admit is probably one of the hardest lifestyle changes for us to make. We definitely saw changes in our energy and cardio abilities! I worked with Max for nearly 4 years and he is not only an extremely knowledgable trainer, but he can become one of your greatest friends. I came to him hoping to lose weight, become toner, and to learn how to live a healthier lifestyle by balancing food and exercise. Unsurprisingly, we were able to achieve all three goals due to Max's relentless investment in me. He pushed me even through my hardest days, checked in on me daily, and was there to support me even when I just thought my work day wasn't going to allow me to go full out. In the time I worked with Max, I went from a dress size of 10-12 to size 4-6. And I feel toner and stronger than ever.

Max is someone that not only believes in you, but he is that trainer that makes you believe in yourself. I had a GREAT experience working with Max. Starting out, he made it a point to ensure he understood my primary goals for these training sessions, and he designed workouts to help me meet those goals. I was rehabbing from knee surgery and having a difficult time gaining leg strength back on my own. Max developed creative and effective workouts to help me gain strength back in my injured leg.

During the sessions he was extremely motivating and encouraging. I was a little intimidated at first about starting personal training, but Max's friendly and encouraging demeanor made me feel right at home at the gym.

In addition to Max's skill as a personal trainer, he is a joy to be around. He is incredibly friendly and carries on conversation throughout the entire session, which is a nice distraction from the difficult workouts!

It’s no accident that Max Gordon is venerated throughout the fitness community as one of the most effective personal trainers available for hire. He is the quintessential personal trainer: affordable, intelligent, versatile, accessible, and personable…and he GETS YOU RESULTS. Family and friends of mine have been blown away by the changes I have made in my physique over the last 10 months; I owe all of this success to Max’s expert wisdom and the voracious work ethic he has instilled in me.

If you feel as though you’ve run yourself in circles reading all the contradicting fitness articles you can find online, Max is your cure-all. Somedays I need Max to push me to hit an extra rep on the bench press. Somedays I want him to explain why a neutral grip is more effective for a bicep curl than a supinated grip (or vice versa). Somedays I want to know whether or not I can eat Big Macs and still have a six-pack (hint: you can). Max is an amazing trainer. I broke my back in april and 4 months later im back working on my deadlift. He is working with my physical therapist to come up with a full body workout program. And sends me a new one everyweek. After being bed ridden for a month and losing alot of strength, i am now almost back up to my old stregnth(everywhere except for my lower back). After working with Max for a over a year now, I could not be happier with my experience! I came to Max with a simple goal to lose weight. However, Max has helped me to develop a healthier lifestyle - combining exercise (detailed daily at-home workouts aligned with training sessions) and nutrition (comprehensive meal logs). Solid gym in the Triangle. Very reasonable rates. If you are a serious lifter or just want to get your workout in and go home, it's a good choice. It doesn't have a juice bar and no one would confuse it with an Equinox, but it does provide chalk and iron. Although there are a number of very strong people who lift at RTP, I do not find it to be a judgmental or uncomfortable place--most people just put their heads down and do their work, but people are friendly and happy to provide a spot, check your form, or share equipment when needed! I started training with Max in spring of 2015 with a goal that I was pretty unsure about succeeding in. Not only did Max help me easily obtain my goal, we soared past it to heights I didn't even think I was capable of reaching. Max is extremely knowledgeable and experienced in the field of fitness and conditioning but that is not what makes him such an outstanding trainer. It's the fact that Max knows there is more to being a trainer than to just improving the physical status of his clients. Max's strong character is full of wisdom, kindness, and respect. when i started w max i didn't even know how to lift or how to do anything in the gym and i was 119 pounds 3 months later i weigh 131 pounds what impressed me the most about max was his knowledge of lifting and how to do everything the correct way really smart guy and was a major factor in my weight gain he even gave me stretches because i was not flexible and took contact very weakly today i take contact better which is key for basketball if your serious max is the man thanks max!!!!!

When I first hired Max, I was looking for a qualified trainer who could help me rehabilitate a couple of nagging injuries (shoulder, knee), build my overall fitness, and eventually transition into a barbell-based program to get stronger. Over a span of several months, Max helped me with each of these goals. His training style is conversational, engaging and supportive, with no pretense or "gymbro" attitude. Given his physical appearance, it is clear he "walks the walk," which gives him even greater credibility, IMO. Very simply put, I get people the results they want in a healthy, sustainable manner. I teach my clients healthy lifestyle practices that they can take with them long after they are done personal training with me. My goal isn't to have life long clients. It is to have a client for a period of time, help them reach their goals, and teach them proper exercise and nutritional habits along the way that they can take with them for the rest of their lives. Plus, all my clients get stronger, and all my clients have fun!

The secret to getting the body of your dreams is identifying exactly what is holding you back, whether it be nutrition, lack of exercise, sleep problems, stress, etc., correcting those problems, and working relentlessly to reach your goals. I enjoy seeing someone work hard at something they truly want. I love when someone reaches their goals. It is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion that is necessary for reaching any fitness goal.

Here at the Big Work Training Studio we work together to identify the barriers standing in the way of people reaching their fitness goals & come up with solutions to those problems that fit into people's lives.

I love seeing people's responses when they realize all their hard work is paying off. I love building relationships with people I otherwise would likely have never met. I like teaching people things they may have been too afraid to learn at one point, like how to dead lift or do an overhead press correctly. I love working at a place where everyone is trying to get better. There are so many things to love about being a Personal Trainer, but what I love most is the fact that I get to help others while doing what I know best!

There is so much nonsense in the fitness world. 21 day fixes, miracle shakes, waist trainers, all this stuff is garbage. It was frustrating for me to sit idly by while people spewed misinformation into the world, and people were eating it up. These solutions may work in the short term, but long term they are unsustainable. I became a trainer 11 years ago (I trained for 3 years in college, then started my business the following fall) to teach people what REALLY works when trying to reach their goals, and that is smart training with consistent effort. Educating and helping people makes my job fulfilling, and that is exactly why I am dedicated to helping my clients achieve the results they are looking for! A decade in, I'm happy to be doing what I'm doing.

Because what I teach works & because it is individualized. I don't have a one size fits all program. We work together as trainer and client to figure out exactly what you need to be doing, and the best way to go about doing it. We constantly reassess, analyze, and discuss what is working and what is not, and make the necessary changes as we go.

If you are looking for a quick fix, I'm not your guy. If you want to truly see how hard work and SMART work pays off, Big Work Training Studio is for you. I teach people how their bodies work, and how to be healthy while reaching their fitness goals not only in the short term, but over the course of the rest of their lives. My goal is to create independence, not dependence. Not only is this experience fun, but it is insightful, informative, and will allow you to gain a thorough understanding of what you are doing WHILE you are doing it! I have programs for various goals and budgets, and I will work with you to find a training setup that will get you to where you want to be.

Yes - I offer online coaching as well as a hybrid in person/online training model, so I have a plan for any goal & budget.

My studio is a private training studio. It it ventilated and cleaned daily. There is nobody else in the facility besides me, the trainer, and you, the client. I am happy to wear a mask while training you if you prefer, I have touchless hand sanitizer as well as advanced studio cleaning solutions. But most importantly, I offer 1 on 1 training to minimize the number of people breathing in the facility!

Services

1 on 1 or small group personal training @ my private training studio in Maynard. The facility is designed for instruction and is designed to be a place to work hard, work smart, and push toward ones goals. I meet with people in person 2-3x a week, and create their workout plans (included in the price of training) for the days they are working out outside of our sessions. Everything is individualized, we figure out what's keeping you from reaching your goals, then come up with the appropriate solutions to get passed those issues to get you to your goals. Big Work!
