Very well conserved historic building
Great workers very helpful
Enjoyed musical w friends
Best tour ever!! Jerry was amazing!!
Beautiful historical structure
Die harf 3 the federal bank
My son's graduation was there. Excellent location.
Great operas, and they have student discounts too if you subscribe to NEXT. I always love the innovative works through Lyric Unlimited as well. Don’t understand Italian? No worries, they have translations projected into a screen above. Bring a pair of small binoculars, and you will be blown away by the details. Arrive here early, because they are always crowded 15 minutes before a show. More...
Beautiful theater. Saw Westside Story, which was considered their musical for the season, but technically quite operatic.
Beautiful theatre with an amazing performance of West Side Story. Students : they have a discount program!!! Use it!
Beautiful building, excellent performance, very helpful friendly staff.
Beautiful theater. Saw West Side Story. Was great.
Views of stage are great no matter the seat - this is upper balcony - 4th row - left side - still had a very good view of stage
Simple BEAUTIFUL!!! If you are going there best way is by cab/uber/lyft
Love it great venue
Absolutely beautiful opera house with fantastic acoustics, extremely talented orchestra and performers. The production of West Side Story would make Bernstein proud!
The Lyric Opera of Chicago has always been my favorite venue to see shows that range fromOpera favorites to Broadway musicals. Recently, I saw West Side Story on stage here and it was fantastic! The performances of the actors was beyond anything I've ever seen in a musical. I highly recommend seeing a performance at the Lyric Opera to any tourist of Chicago or local, because it is an unforgettable experience! More...
Such a classy, elegant building!
Beautiful place and performances
West Side Story!!!!
Beautiful environment and excellent acoustics
Awesome venue, but the drink lines could use a lot more speed.
Always great performances
Enjoyed the Westside Story and delightful venue with lots of historic perspectives.
West side story was spectacular!
Beautiful building, truly a gem of the city. The staff is very courteous and the quality of productions is world class. I wouldn't mind if the seats were a bit more comfortable.

Always a great show
Great performances good security, amazing scenary and comfortable seating.
Gorgeous venue! Incredible actually! Really great show!
Wonderful venue to watch the play "West Side Story"!
It was spacious and beautiful.
Beautiful Art Deco theater. West Side Story was very well done!

Fantastic production of West Side Story! My first time at The Lyric. Great venue, awesome acoustics. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Great staff, amazing talent and a wonderful evening!!
A stunning venue with friendly and helpful staff.
West side story, performance was quite faithful to the Broadway one. A strong voiced young cast, with all the ballet stylingGreat fun with the Sharks and the JetsOne anachronism: a chrome plated semi-auto pistol was used, rather than a period correct blued revolver
Fantastic Theatre, great acoustics. We were in the upper level so it wasn't the best view, but we could see pretty well and could hear everything. We saw West Side Story as a Mother's and Fathers day gift to my parents. Is was pretty great! More...
Great interior and spacious, amazing acoustics and view of the stage no matter how far away you are. Just got finished seeing West Side Story and had an excellent time. They do have intermission and snacks and all served (just the standard stuff) More...
The opera house is stunningly beautiful, the acoustics are wonderful and the production of West Side Story was lush in sou d, big orchestra. It had remarkable soloists, great dancing, and a clever set.It was faithful to Bernstein, Sondheim, and Robbins, but felt more contemporary. Best ticket in town! More...
The classic art deco opera house in Chicago. Beautiful! In between the opera seasons they occasionally stage a production of a Broadway Musical. Today's performance of West Side Story was superb. More...
Amazing performance of West Side Story!
Beautiful theater, wonderful acoustics, excellent show but they could hire another bartender or five. The line was so long and so slow that many customers went back to their seats afraid to miss the show after intermission.
First time attending a performance at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and my experience was amazing.
Christina San Miguel
I loved the overall experience. They close the doors and don't allow anyone in or out during the show but do give a midshow intermission so that you may use the restroom or buy drinks. When the show is about to start or intermission is almost over there is a warning sound and the lights on the wall start to flash letting you know to return to your seats. The facilities were clean and they have plenty of workers available for assistance. We took in a small group of elders and they have main level facilities reserved for them and they tag the walkers and all assistive devices and take them directly to their seats when the show is over. Very pleasant experience except for rude person behind me bumping my seat.
The best of Chicago's theatre era. The performances these walls must have seen are mind boggling. Westside sorry was wonderful.
Always enjoy a night at the Opera...Particularly with Dinner
We went to watch West Side Story. The Lyric is Nostalgic and Beautiful. A must see location if you're ever visiting Chicago
They never disappoint, always great productions. Had dinner before at the bistro.
Beautiful place. Not a bad seat in the house.
Beautiful venue, amazing show (West Side Story). The seats could be more comfortable, given that theater-goers are in them for some time.
I enjoyed the play very much. They were playing West Side Story.
I went here to see a production of West Side Story. Despite performing in a few musicals myself in high school I have seen only 3 broadway shows and 3 not on broadway. This production was fantastic and as an aspiring opera singer, seeing the hall was magic I hope I will be able to attend and opera in this beautiful house sometime in the not so distant future. Saw a great performance of West Side Story!
This is my fourth Mother's Day weekend event at the Lyric Opera as I live in New Mexico. Always a highlight of my year!
Beautiful, but the seats aren't very comfy
Just experienced West Side Story.....the sound system at the Lyric is soooo good. Loved the show. The music and the dancing were suberb!
Saw West Side Story with my daughter. 2nd balcony picture of our view.
Awesome theater. A must visit if you go downtown Chicago.
Let's Stay Together Talk Show
Great productions, professional theater and opera. Beautiful place.
beautiful place. so grand.
West side story was fabulous. The ushers were very efficient.
We watched The West Side Story and it was amazing!
Drinks are too pricey
Fantastic time seeing West Side Story. The music, acting, and singing were phenomenal! Tony and Maria were remarkable!
If you see only one West Side Story restaging this year let this be the one!
Love the operas and shows here. Not a bad seat in the house and productions are wonderful!
West Side Story was amazing!!!
Great venue. Comfortable seats. Way overpriced refreshments. The sound system needs some work. It was intrusive to the show.
Beautiful needs more bathrooms
A must experience at least once. Be prepared for long lines during intermission for drinks
West side story was the best. That orchestra was amazing.
West Side Story was amazing. Tony's voice was fantastic. Had a wonderful musical experience!
Great venue to see a performance
West Side Story Superior in all aspects.
Beautiful theater. Very classy. Comfortable seats in the balcony
Beautiful, historic building. Great experience!
Amazing talent, from dance to song,to sets to acting, to music!amazing!
This place is gorgeous and has a great stage, and the experience is spectacular. There are attendants for elevators as well as ushering and they make sure every need and question is taken care of.
The singing and dancing by these actors were as good as the movie Westside story.
My favorite theatre in Chicago!
West Side Story production was outstanding! And the opera house was gorgeous, great sound...
Nice to see West Side Story in a unique venue
West Side Story was excellent.
Fantastic leads, cast, and set for West Side Story.
This place is always an awesome place to come love it
The lyric opera house is an amazing place to see a show. unfortunately, the show that we went to see, Westside story, was not very good.
I haven't been here in years. It was great to revisit. I had to see West Side Story before it closed. Upon entering the ticket scanner was very friendly. Went to restroom which was clean, decent. The interior was clean, beautiful. They have several costumes used in prior shows on display throughout the venue. They have bars scattered throughout. The only problem I encountered was u cannot take opened refreshments into theater. U mean I purchased an $8 beer and I have to drink it up before I can enter theater Not cool. That costed them a star there. Otherwise the theater is beautiful, classic, great acoustics. A landmark for sure. More...
Lyric Opera is beautiful and the shows are great so I have nothing to complain about there. The prices for seats are reasonable and they offer the Poetry Garage which is a short walk. I also like that they have a picture booth set up and refreshments that you can purchase during intermissions. If I could complain about one thing it would be the rushing around at the entrance that you get from the employees to hurry up with your tickets and they do not play around during intermission restroom breaks either you better be quick because it is like boot camp up in there with the staff. Such a beautiful and historic spot! I have been here for several events, but the most recent one was for the James Beard Awards Gala. I had excellent seats on the main floor. The outside was buzzing on the red carpet with celebrity chefs and actors/actresses.Inside the ornate style and historic elements give it an old world charm. Love this theater and have such a great time when I come here! More...
We enjoyed the opera family day event. Children enjoyed all crafts. Face paintings by the professionals who do opera actors makeup are amazing. 20 mins a session for each group demonstration is great. The pieces demoed in the performance are so fun and interesting for the introduction and get the feeling how operas are. It is well though and organized. More...
Lovely venue. Great acoustics. Perfect location... easy to find. Plenty of concessions. Fun extras like the camera and red carpet backdrop!
Loved there family day. A real well done and thought out experience.

With student tickets my daughter got great discounts. I love this place
Sound of Music production was awesome!
Attended Renee Fleming 25th Anniversary concert. Concert itself was amazing but so was the friendliness and helpfulness of the people who work at the Lyric. People who have never been to an opera here sometimes mistakenly imagine an elitist and "stuck up" atmosphere, catering only to the wealthy. As regards the people who work here, nothing could be further from the truth. If you're in the Chicago area, you owe it to yourself to come here. More...
Such a beautiful decor, and the shows they have here are wonderful. I wish I could come more often but my wallet doesn't permit it.
Beautiful venue, and very austere. I have always enjoyed attending and going to this wondrous opera house.

Beautiful! I was definitely glad to see they had a subtitle ticker above the stage. Personable bartenders who genuinely care about your experience. Lovely extras to look at everywhere you turn! More...
TL;DR - not a bad seat in the house - coat check available and opera glasses - screen with English translations of lyrics- incredible interior architecture - Opera is for anyone and everyone My very first opera experience was with lyric opera. It was incredible. The talent, costumes, set, ambiance, and show blew me out of the water. When I was selecting my seats I really didn't know what to expect for how the view would be. I sat in the lower balcony on the third floor and my view was fantastic. The seating chart doesn't do the venue justice. It is very intimate and hardly a bad seat in the house. They also have a cash coat check for $2 an item. Something I would have liked to have known is you can also check out opera glasses from the coat check. la Traviata was incredible and they had a little screen above the stage showing the English translations of the lyrics. This makes seeing a show super approachable. You don't need to know everything about opera to enjoy it. I grabbed a mid show intermission glass of Prosecco to refresh myself and wandered around the venue a little bit. Don't be afraid to visit with other patrons! I met some really lovely people. The inside of the opera house is gorgeous to say the least. I hope to go again soon! More...
Very impressive and historical landmark to visit. The whole event is pretty well organized - lines may seem long for the show and coat checking, but they are handled professionally and quickly.Staff is also very nice and polite. Word of advice - students can get 20$ tickets for really good sits (picture is the view from my sit which I got as a student). More...
I subscribe, so of course this review will be positive. In fact I come down from Milwaukee eight times a year to enjoy the productions. The quality of the singing, the productions, the staging, and the stage direction is generally excellent. Not always, but almost always. I've sat in the balcony and I have sat on the main floor and there's no comparison. If you can afford it, I strongly urge the purchase have a main floor ticket. Lyric Opera of Chicago is one of the best opera companies in the United States. I feel fortunate to live so close. More...
Best sounds, big different from youtube
It is very beautiful and the opera of La Traviata was amazing!!
Extremely beautiful theatre. Very intimate. Acoustics are wonderful. Had a phenominal evening I will never forget

I am a subscriber for more than ten years. The Opera House is a great facility. The productions can be hit or miss. They seem to be more interested in getting hot directors and productions, rather than top singers. The quality of the subscriber relationship is going down too. I know many long time subscribers who have stopped due to bad customer service. BTAIM, this is still a world class Opera House. You just put up with some odd productions to get something sublime once in a while. La Boheme this year. Lucia recently. Plus not many Opera houses can put on a Ring cycle. You takes the good with the bad. Overall I am glad we're fortunate enough to have something like this. I miss Bill Mason. More...
Balcony my favorite
Love the Lyric. One of the world's best Opera companies.
Always amazing an performance
La Traviata - Great singing!
Amazing experience at the Opera of Chicago, stunning architecture and fantastic play
I loved love this place. It’s almost magical as you walk in. I suggest you dress up and get the whole experience. When you first arrive try to be an hour early so you can order intermission food ahead of time. We ordered ahead at the Bistro. We chose desert and champagne for our first intermission. The desert I had is pictured it was the Opera cake. The cake was very decadent. I loved it. The pink champagne I ordered was so good and only $11 a glass. I suggest you try both. We also took our time to walk around and visit several floors since there are beautiful gowns throughout. Vera Wang is one of the designers. They also have several stations between acts where you can get a snack or drink and not have to wait in long lines. They are very prompt to start and give you warning bells. Overall Ariodante the Opera we saw was good and kept our attention. It definitely is a Romantic comedy and a nice change to what I normally watch. One of the main characters was sick and had a sub but it did not matter the sub was great. I don’t want to get into too much detail and give things away. Overall, I will be coming back to this Opera house and will possibly try a box seat out next. The seats we had were right up front 3rd row on the side. It would have been nice to be in the middle more but honestly this was a good seat for me. More...
Wonderful building, lovely performance of La Traviata. The costuming was amazing!

Beautiful facility that's easy to navigate. Parking reasonably nearby. Best yet, the show (J C Superstar) was superb.

First time Lyric Opera of Chicago visit. From the valet parking customer service, to the fabulous Grand Foyer, to the pleasant individuals serving drinks etc, and then to the outstanding costumes and the dynamic acoustics. All the performers were captivating. A pure joy. Highly recommend. More...
Beautiful Opera. Good view from back seets too. Nice sound and good subtitles. Wonderful artists playing.
It is hard to know what the bigger spectacle is at the Lyric - the many fine productions on the stage or the building itself. The auditorium is vast and exquisite in the detailed Egyptian style art work.I’ve seen several productions here and the standard of music and stage craft is always high. There is a spot down centre you can always see the singers creep towards for the big not and when it comes it sounds great in this auditorium. More...

Heat was on too high! Kind staff. Beautiful set.
The scenery, acting and voices were good. My son was very happy to have the English titles. It was enjoyable.
Fabulous music! Magnificent staging! Great night out!!!
Le lieu est magnifique, mais on est très ramassis et on ne voit pas la scene: les fauteuils sont te alignés. Dommage
We saw Elektra. It was fantastic.
Incredible experience!! My husband and I seen Elektra on Valentine's Day and it was superb. The building is breathtaking and as classy as can be. Thank you
First class music & singing.
Lovely theatre and tasteful sets.
Lovely operas- beautiful staging, singing, conducting, opera house, the works! Love going!
A Chicago landmark and world class opera house. I've been attending operas at Lyric for 20+ years and it's a great evening every time we attend.
Nice original decor, EXCELLENT sound characteristics
Simply Beautiful in phenomenal
One of the great classic buildings in Chicago. It has stayed true to the original architecture, which makes it beautiful.
I love Lyric Opera! The hall is small enough that the view is great even from the very back row in the highest balcony. The quality of the operas is, of course, world class.
A nice place to go if you want to soak in some culture!!!!!
With awestriking architecture, beautiful interior design, and the inevitable elegance and class that oozes out of the Opera shows throughout the auditorium, Lyric Opera of Chicago is one of the landmarks you must visit. The money you pay for is irrelevant to the musical experience and the memories you will make here. The overall experience made me feel like being on a cruise or at a royal ball. An unforgettable night is made possible here.I watched La Boheme at the Lyric. Although I sat towards the back of the auditorium, the seating locating did not take away much of the show. The auditorium is designed in such a way that makes it so.If you are a regular opera fan or have never gone to an opera, make your next visit Lyric Opera of Chicago. You will not be disappointed. My husband and I went on opening night of Elektra. We had a great view in the dress circle and could see both the stage as well as the subtitles that were displayed on the top right of the stage. I was glad that we picked a balcony seat, as the opera was in German and the English subtitles were helpful. While the Lyric Opera House was beautiful and the talent of the singers and orchestra was wonderful, I would give this opera only 4 stars as it was not very lively and the scenery was not very dynamic. I did enjoy the way that light was used during the performance, however I found the story to be somewhat lackluster. This is only the 2nd opera I have seen however, and I do plan to return for another show later this spring to give it another try. I think my main issues were with the plot of the opera itself and not the actual production. More...
Great Experience! The interior is gorgeous- from the lobby ceilings to the auditorium. The bartenders are friendly and helpful. His suggestion that I order and prepay for food and drink at the intermission was perfect. Everything was waiting for us on a side counter. The opera troop is excellent. What a wonderful evening. It is amazing go there 1
Great place to see an opera and also great place to go eat before the opera
The performances are powerful and flawless in the fantastic theater. To get the full Lyric Opera experience, come dressed in jackets, ties, and gowns. Allow 15 min for a coat check (always check your coat if you can) and double that when collecting your coats after the performance. Also allow 15 min to get a drink before the performance and remember to have them put it in a paper cup, then go find a lid for it - when you get the lids, bring some back for the others still in line so that they can make it into the auditorum before the doors get closed. Then enjoy a great show! Great plays you can only find in 5 major cities in the US
It was nice
You shouldn't miss going.
Beautiful theater and top quality performances. Just sooooo expensive...
Enjoyed the e event, parking is horrible.
It is hard to say anything bad about this institution, except too many people like it and it is expensive
I've always LOVED this venue. The only thing that I would change, is expanding the women's washrooms. There's always a 50+ person line at intermission, while the men don't have a line at ALL!!! P.s. IF you're a wine/ drink lover, I just found out that you can PRE-ORDER intermission drinks, BEFORE the show starts!!! Also, if you ever get a chance to do a back stage tour, DO IT!!! It's rather amazing! More...
Absolutely beautiful. Truly enjoyed it. Can't wait to see another one.
Not only are the operas a grand to-do...but so is the historic opera house itself. Beauty surrounds all from ceiling and chandeliers to floor and red carpet. Checking out the Chicago Lyric Opera has been on my to-do list for sometime now, as I've always enjoyed the performances held in Millennium Park in summer prior to Opening Night. The building itself is grand and historic, and it adds to the overall experience. Great place and service
Amazing experience, lovely theater... never done this before only whatched on tv and is really not the same, is incredible how they sing and beautiful aswell...
It was amazing..I enjoyed myself.
Beautiful, grand, historic, ornate venue.
Straight No Chaser great concert. Love the venue. Always a great staff.
Beautiful building and helpful staff. A tad confusing to navigate.
Don't act like you're too cool for the opera. I wouldn't strike myself as a fancy guy, I started going to the opera, because my wife made me. Now I'm glad she did! Those singers are impressive!!! They don't even use microphones and you can hear them clear as day from the upper deck! The opera is just like a movie. There are good ones and not so good ones. Do yourself a favor and go to the opera. Just don't go for the first time if it's a 5 hour long opera! More...
We saw Straight No Chaser. Besides the great show, the architecture is really cool to look at.
Very nice place
I love the aesthetic of the theatre, the pre show talks with staff, and the amazing music. Eat before you go, shows are long and they only really have drinks and cheese.
The Lyric Opera is a beautiful space and wonderful venue. We found parking right across the street thanks to the ParkWhiz app, and I loved the outdoor Christmas decorations. We did arrive with plenty of time for the show; unfortunately, most other people did not seem to do so, as the concert started a full 45 minutes late. In addition, we bought two drinks and with tip our bill was $30-- for sure way more than the whole bottle of wine would have cost. We saw John Legend perform, and of course the concert was amazing. The staff were wonderful and kind, and we could see well from our seats, even on an upper level. I would for sure attend another show, but perhaps get a drink elsewhere beforehand. More...
World class opera.
Great time. Worth it to buy a sippy cup. Was on my bucket list to go.
One of the top opera companies in thd USA. I would say it is about the same level as the San Francisco Opera. It is doing one of Wagner's Ring operas each year since 2016. It will do all four in 2020. Each season great operas are staged, many of them blockbusters. Recently there were issues between the player's union and the management, culminating in a recent strike. I am not sure if things are resolved for the long term. In the mean time I am thankful there is a good opera company in Chicago. More...
Chicago's Lyric Opera is among the world's top opera houses. It opened in 1929, on the heels of the Great Crash. But, like Chicago itself, the Lyric is a survivor. In spite of its less than auspicious beginnings it has grown to become what it is today, a first class opera house that attracks operatic stars and audiences from around the world. The building itself, with its beautiful art nouveau entrance hall is a piece of art in itself well worth a visit. On days of performances there are refreshment stands in the lobby where a patron can buy anything from coffee to champagne. And there are plenty of sparkling clean washrooms when that need arises. Although the theater itself is hughe, the acoustics are wonderful and one does not miss a sigh of a dying heroe, or a tone of any aria. The staff and "angel" volunteers assist with every need and are extremely attentive to patrons who are elderly or have to use wheelchairs, crutches or walkers. With a beautiful ambience, world renown artists and always courteous assistant staff, how could this be less than a 5 star experience. More...
Going here is an experience. Don't be afraid of opera because you think it's boring or you won't be able to understand it. There are English subtitles easily seen above the stage. The theatre alone is worth going because it is absolutely stunning. Go to at least one show. It'll be good for you! More...

One of the finest, beautiful opera houses in the world--no exaggeration. The productions rarely disappoint, the casts are world class, and the company endeavors to champion this art form while leading it into the 21st century.
The Lyric is a beautiful classic performance space and excellent opera venue. They attract top talent from around the world, which is expected. The less expected is the creativity and visual spectacle the company mounts for each opera. Interesting set design and costing brings an extra dimension.(And for anyone concerned about understanding, there is simultaneous translation above the stage). More...

Beautiful voices, wonderful Opera House (my favorite) and an opera we had never seen before. All made for a fun evening.
Always first-rate in every way -- performances, opera house, staff, etc. Enjoyable from start to finish.
Who doesn't love the Lyric?
Opening Night, Wonderful
The opera was great. They appear to have had some kind of problem with a leak in the roof causing some ceiling damage, and a number of seats were roped off.Worse, there was a light left on behind us that was annoying. We have been there several times, though, and this is atypical. I expect it will be off for the next performance. More...
Always an amazing evening at the opera
We saw La Bohème last night - this was the first time I had ever seen this particular opera. It was amazing. The performers, the singing, the orchestra, and particularly the sets, were of the highest quality. I have seen many performances at Lyric and have never been disappointed. The staff is wonderful. There was a potential union issue with the musicians that may have affected performance schedules (ours was not affected as it was resolved quickly) and Lyric was on the ball with email notifications and keeping attendees and members up-to-date. I cannot wait for West Side Store in 2019. More...

Something I always enjoy
This is it: the reason I visited Chicago eight times a year for nearly a decade. Beautiful large opera house with truly grand-scale performances of magnificent operas. Tickets are available in all price ranges. Legroom isn't fantastic but it's certainly adequate for me, and I'm 6' tall. The free "introductory" talks, held an hour before the performances, are usually informative and entertaining, but it does mean you'll have to eat dinner even earlier for those evening performances! A true pleasure and privilege to have attended the presentation of Orphee et Eurydice at the Chicago Lyric Opera! My only disappointment was that it was set in modern times with a car being the cause of Eurydice's death. Interesting that the names weren't changed to go with the times too.
Such a great story that it is hard to imagine everything else not being underwhelming. Not the case here as the orchestra, singers, and members of the Joffrey Ballet caused me to forget about the translation and just enjoy their interpretation of this story.
The technique of using a shadow box and moving the set during the performance added a beauty that at times was just mesmerizing. More...

 Love Lyric More...
Not everything is a winner, but has a high level of excellence. Have had season tickets since 1970 season but my first performances were in November 1962. Many wonderful memories over the years. More...

The best musical I’ve seen in years! Don’t wait for it to be in a city near you, fly to the Windy City!

It was beautifully presened. The music was magnificent.
However the traffic to get into the Lyric Opera was inexcusable on a Sunday afternoon. Someone has to take the traffic pattern into consideration and fix it. Allowing cams the lineup right across the Crossing of the streets is ridiculous but more importantly the cars lined up two blocks away trying to get people over to other areas was indescribable I'm seriously considering canceling my season tickets it just isn't worth the fight More...

We saw Turnadot last night. What a beautiful opera. It was well sung and the sets were beautiful. We had dinner at the Lyric and I’ve eaten there before. It is always good no matter which dining room you choose. More...
We saw Puccini's Turandot last night. Wonderful venue, plus the music, voices, and stage work were amazing. The only negative is that there are too few staff working the coat check and the between acts beverage service. Really, one more person would have been very helpful. More...
You don’t do this opera if you don’t have the voices to showcase it. Not only are the principles wonderful...the chorus never sounded better. A world class production!
Attended my first opera friday the 16th an I really enjoyed myself the whole experience was amazing can't wait to attend another performance and bring my daughter and friends for them to experience there first time opera.
World class opera productions (I Puritani tonight) with amazing performers at the top of their game. Albina Shagimuratova and Lawrence Brownlee had strong performances in this Bel Canto masterpiece. Well conducted and the acoustics were great. Enjoyed dinner before the performance at the third floor Florian Opera Bistro offering a light meal in a quaint setting with numerous photos of past opera legends that performed here. The staff at the opera shop were nice and attentive. A fantastic place for people new to opera and veteran opera goers. More...
Jesus Christ Superstar was a fantastic performance. Vocally magnificent. However there was a HUGE problem with the lighting. The three levels of floodlights stage right completely blinded most of us sitting house right during a large number of scenes. Everyone around me had the same problem. I urge the lighting director to go sit in house right rear orchestra and see how bright these lights are shining at the audience, to the point that actors in front of them become invisible. Not to mention it is simply annoying to have floodlights blinding you half the show. More...

We love everything about The Lyric Opera — it’s our fourth year and we can’t wait for the next season. It’s like a very special gift to ourselves. And, I might add, that it’s not only for the privileged; The Lyric makes it affordable for even us mere mortals to enjoy :) More...
Usually I go to most of the operas however due to time constraints this was my first this season. Everything lyric was awesome. The valet experience, the ladies in their opera capes, the bartender, the usher, the venue, the music. I wasn’t a big fan of the storyline but hey Mozart saw things differently than me. Everything was great. Especially Boris at coat check. Wonderful, bubbly personality just really made the experience! Thanks Lyric More...
A world class company in a historic venue. I enjoyed pre-opera meals in both the Pedersen Room on the ground floor (which is prix fixe) and Florian's Opera Bistro on the third floor nicely decorated with photos of past productions. The interior of the Civic Opera House is an Art Deco masterpiece. A night at LOC is not to be missed! More...
I’m back to see it a second time on the day it closes. After seeing it two weeks ago I HAD to experience it again. As a conductor and performing musician (trumpet player) in Chicago, I have a true appreciation for all of the musical and artistic elements that went into this production. Bravi Tutti to everyone!
I took 20 high school orchestra students to see Faust. For all of them this was their first opera. The students not only enjoyed the production but had a great time chatting with some of the (mostly older) season ticket holders who welcomed them to their first Opera. This gave all of my students a positive experience that they will remember. For me, ordering tickets with the Lyric was very easy and accessible for our groups. LeiLynn was so helpful and kind to us during our visit. Thanks Lyric Opera of Chicago! More...
Lyric Opera House is one of the premier Opera houses in the country for a reason. From the world class musical leadership of Sir Andrew Davis to the creative genius of Renee Fleming, the phenomenal set designs, flawless costumes and the greatest voices and musicians who perform each and every show.... season after season. Then, add to it the historical and architecturally significant building, the service-focused staff who ensure your every need is attended to each time you visit, and the amazing patrons who make pre and post performance people watching almost as much fun as the show itself! Finally, I've been a subscriber for years and have had seats in many locations throughout the theatre. The seats are all quite comfortable and fairly roomy, and there is not really a bad view in the house. This is certainly worth experiencing! More...
