We stopped by on Friday to pick up a delicious Dobos Torte. We found a lot of other fabulous pastries, too. The csorge was feather light and full of flavor. The strudel was perfect. We got apple, cherry and peach apricot. WOW was that good. We got some pogacsa biscuits and kiflis, too. Our freezer is now full of lovely Hungarian treats. It was definitely worth the drive. Will recommend to everyone and will be back for more. More...

Best Hungarian pasty in Cleveland
We've been buying Lucy's brownies when they were on Buckeye, they appear to have gotten smaller in size, but are still good!
Thank you guys for making such an amazing Dobos Torte! I picked one up this weekend for my mom’s birthday and it was such a hit with everyone! Totally spot on!

1 of the city's best
Always a good place for good doughnuts
Shopped at Lucy’s in the 70’s and o into the 90’s
Delicious cakes and pastries! We always think of Lucy’s for special occasions. Michael made our wedding cake and countless birthday cakes!
Wonderful place. Will definitely visit again !
This bakery does Eastern Europe baked goods. I have gotten breads, cookies and a German cake from them. It's a simple no thrills place but if you want a delicious homemade mom n' pop bakery cake this should be your place to go! I do suggest you call in advanced to order 2 or 3 days before. They also serve fresh coffee and simple breakfast pastries! If you go inside there is limited seating but it's usually quiet and you need to enter from the back where you can also park. You can not enter the bakery from the front off Chagrin Road. More...
We receive our challah from Lucy's and they are truly the best around. They are SO good that I entrusted them with providing pastry trays for my wedding. They didn't fail to deliver on those as all the guests were raving about how "Old World" tasty the selections were. Most guests thought that a relative had made them. They were THAT GOOD! More...
As soon as my now husband and I got engaged, I knew Lucy's Sweet Surrender would make our cake. My family has known Michael for many years, as he used to deliver pastry trays to my freshman dorm (and even gave me rides a few times!
). Michael's baking skills are unmatched, and his preservation of old-world techniques and flavors is sorely needed in this day and age. We asked Michael for a traditional Hungarian dessert, a Dobos Torte, made in the style of a wedding cake, and boy did he deliver! We asked for a simple design with contrasting layers, and he gave us exactly what we were hoping for. The cake was not only beautiful but delicious, and we've gotten so many compliments! The cake was a beautiful representation of my family's heritage with a clean, modern design.
Michael is an old-school Hungarian; he doesn't sugar-coat the truth, but he's still one of the sweetest people I know. He cared about giving us exactly what we wanted and even checked in with me the day before the wedding to confirm that everything was still as we requested. Lucy's Sweet Surrender is a Cleveland institution for good reason, and I can't wait to order a cake for our 1-year anniversary. Thank you to Michael and his team for giving us a memorable and delicious wedding! More...
My family and I stopped at Lucy's with my uncle who lives out of town now and was craving some genuine Hungarian nut roll from his old neighborhood. I think we bought out the store! Apricot cheese strudel was eaten almost immediately. So delicious!! They gave us instructions on how to gently tuck the nut and poppy seed rolls into the freezer for Christmas and New Years. The staff and bakers were so friendly and appreciative of us being there. Definitely worth another trip! More...

Thank you Michael and Marika! The Dobos Torte and pastries were wonderful for my daughter's "Sprinkle". And as always my son and his fellow soldiers enjoyed your poppyseed and nut rolls in Afghanistan.
Most amazing Dobos Tortes I've ever had. Wish I lived closer!
I grew up with Lucy's as I lived right around the corner on E 126th and Forest in the early 50's. It was our family's go-to for strudel. Love revisiting when I am able.
We loved the donuts, and had a great meal from the Nawlin City Express that opened up inside. The wings are to kill for and the jambalya, and gumbo were excellent. We are definitely going back tomorrow. More...

I was given the chance to help make strudel today. I was in heaven. I brought a key lime pie as a thank you, and was given apricot cheese and cherry cheese strudel as a return gift. What a joy to have this store in our neighborhood. More...
I get 2 dozen donuts every week for my coworkers. They rave about them! Great people, great bakery
Visiting from out of town. Found this sweet little bakery while walking. The place has a really nice old school feel. Tried the peach apricot strudel and all I can say is no strudel will ever be good enough for me again. 12 on 10 will visit again for the strudels and maybe try the heavenly looking donuts next time. If you're in the neighborhood, stop by for perfectly baked goods and really polite staff. :) More...
This is AMAZING! Kept passing by it at work and decided to give it a try. They were very helpful, and it's a cute bakery. Got the cherry and cheese strudel for 2 .50 which is well priced and is so so delicious. Will definitely be coming again! They're also very friendly :) More...

Got my Dobos Torte and cracklin biscuits. And I love them and Lucys Bakery. Its a treat every time!!!!
My wife ordered a Dobos torte, a chocolate hazelnut cake and krumpli from Lucy's for her birthday. They sent them second-day air UPS from Cleveland since we live in California. The cakes arrived on time and in perfect shape. We had the Dobos torte for the birthday dinner we had with friends and family and everyone thought it was delicious and beautiful. My wife said the lady who answered the phone at the store and the guy, Mike, that she mostly dealt with were extremely nice and very accommodating. We couldn't be happier. More...
Only place I've found where you can a real Doblish torte cake. If you haven't had one, you're missing out on one of the best desserts ever.
Best Russian tea biscuits in town. I miss them being closer to the city for us west siders!
Best dobos torte anywhere, even taking one to Arizona soon (bringing a little bit of Cleveland to Phoenix). The pink rum flavored petit fours are a favorite of mine too. Wonderful strudel too. Just can't say enough great things about this bakery. More...
Great place and great pastries. Love the strudel, dobos torte, sour cream cookies, and the cheesecake is phenomenal. Never had a bad experience here and will continue to visit as much as possible. By the way, they have great coffee as well. More...
Best of the best
I just had some of the best apple strudel in the whole wide world!! It put a smile on my face. You guys are amazing I am glad Roland introduced me to his familia's bakery :)
My family has been a customer of Lucy's for as long as I can remember. Their pastries remain unmatched in the Cleveland area, and frankly almost anywhere I have been! We especially love their strudel (which you can buy cooked or frozen, depending on the event that you are buying for - super easy to cook yourself and have delicious, hot, fresh tasting strudel!) and their challah - Apple and Cinnamon are my personal favorites, though you really cannot go wrong with any of it! Oh and their almond cake...suffice it to say, they're a very talented bakery! I notice there is a review below expressing disappointment at their new location - I wanted to write this review specifically to disagree with this opinion. While it would be nice if there was an entrance at the front of the building, the nature of the intersection really would not make it safe for people to enter in this manner. There is a TON of parking in the back, especially near the bakery entrance, and it is very easy to get to the side road to find this lot. Once inside, the location is HUGE. They have many cute little tables for dining in and the service is quick if you are getting a "to go" order. They are also great at having orders ready if you call in ahead of time! I can't wait to see what they do with all of the space - I talked to one person at the Shaker Square farmers market last season (yes you can get their stuff there too!) and they said they may start making pizzas and other types of food, which would be AWESOME!Love Love Love Lucy's!!!! I guarantee you will NOT be disappointed! More...
Lucy's Sweet Surrender has always been a favored bakery of me and my family. While I enjoy their varied pastries and breads, they have one item that is like my Holy Grail of cakes. It is their Almond Cake. It is tiny, maybe 6 or 7 inches across, and quite unassuming, but it is nothing short of wonderful. It is dense, moist as all get out and super addicting. It is one of those baked goods you keep taking tiny slices of until a few hours later you realize you have eaten a whole cake in one day and need to get to the gym! On top of their great baked goods, their staff is wonderful and they always greet you with a warm smile. I love to stop by their stand at the North Union Farmer's Market, but better yet their new location on Chagrin Boulevard is where it is at. The new location, I feel is more central to their beloved fans, but also is working to revive a small strip mall in Shaker that needed a little pick me up. So if you are in the mood for some wonderful pastries, breads and seasonal baked goods like their fluffy Hot Cross Buns around Easter you should check out Lucy's Sweet Surrender on Chagrin Boulevard.....and then pop over to Juma Gallery, another great store that recently relocated to this wonderful little strip in Shaker! This is your eastern European goldmine of a bakery, old school! I used to go to their old location, only mid day as the neighborhood was sketchy. I am so glad they moved! The new location has plenty of parking and they have more selection due to the larger store!I went there this Saturday and I am glad I went early as the place was packed! I got a small desert plate (its now gone) some Easter egg cakes (yummy!) and of course a strudel, you must try this. But our all time favorite is the chocolate raspberry Challah! OMG! I usually buy about 10 and give them out as gifts near the Jewish holidays, keeping at least 4 for my family.Check out their custom cakes, no one makes a better homemade cake for a special occasion! your friends and family will be blown away! This is a local, family run business that is just awesome! Forget the Panerras and stone ovens of the world and try some scratch baking! More...
Michael is the king of flexibility! I was a non-traditional bride who DIDN'T want a cake. Instead, I opted for the a delicious assortment of old world and gourmet, individual bakery. If I hadn't been raised properly, I would have spent the evening devouring each kind of delicacy that he made, before my guests had a chance! He was able to top-off our wonderful meal as only a master baker could. More...
The Russian Tea Biscuits and the Challah's are amazing. Wait until you taste the fresh donuts in the morning!!! OMG! The strudels of course will make you keep coming back for more!
Our cake was beautiful, it was moist, not to sweet. We loved it.
My boyfriend is Hungarian and loves his rum cake so a stop at Lucy's is always a treat for us both. I love their chocolatey desserts while he always goes for the rum cake. We recently tried their strudel too and it was magnificient as well. We are hosting a party in the next month and are planning on ordering a couple of party platters filled with assorted desserts. I'm not sure how we're going to be able to choose which ones though because they are all fantastic. More...
You not only can't go wrong - you'll wonder why you haven't made it to this bakery before! Approaching Lucy's Sweet Surrender - you surrender to the very aromatic smells that you nose is drying to smell more of. Our initial visit was to look for party trays for a party we were throwing for someone. We found some great trays at decent prices. They have so many and all are wonderfully prepared and so tasty. One of them was very popular at the party and that was the Old World Style try. It consisted of items like their delicious Strudels, Poppy Roll, Nut Rolls, and cream cheese pastry, chocolate cookies, Szorbo's and something else which I have forgotten. Another item that was very well liked was their delicious Rum Cake. Actually we picked up many items for the party and they were all a hit. One of my favorites is the Chocolate Mousse Torte. It is a 3 layered chocolate cake filled with tasty chocolate mousse, with chocolate curls and fruit brandy and more. I think it serves about 10 people or more but that depends if I will let them have any. More...
Lucys Sweet Surrender is an old-world Hungarian bakery on Clevelands East Side. While the neighborhood it resides in has changed quite a bit since its opening 50 years ago, the bakery itself hasnt changed a thing. While their buttery, flaky strudels, which are shipped all over the country, are the star of the show, Lucys other offerings like nut rolls and cream cheese pastries are also worth a sample. More...
