My husband and I like to think of Lonnie’s as our “secret hidden gem.” A somewhat hidden, intimate, delicious restaurant hidden between small shops and boutiques in downtown Lake Mary. Everything, and I mean everything on the menu is delicious. It’s pretty neat to sit at the bar and watch the family-run team, including Lonnie himself, make your cuisine! Their bruschetta is a nice appetizer, followed by the house salads that accompany the meals. Although they may be small, it’s so nice to have a salad without an up-charge. The fish tacos are one of our favorites. We usually order without the wasabi sauce because it’s a little too strong. Their filet is always top notch and their fish special is usually unbelievable! Nice selection of wine. Hard-working staff. Excellent service and unbelievable food. Hence our hidden gem. It’s also pretty small (maybe 5 booths and then the bar). So as much as we’d love to tell everyone how much we love Lonnie’s... they’d never be able to fit us in! 5 Stars! More...

Excellent food and service.  Located on 4ths street tucked away from the chain restaurants. There are only around 5 tables inside, so I recommend making a reservation.    There are also tables available outside, I imagine these will also fill up when the weather is good.Service was excellent. Our server was very attentive and drinks were always full. The food was all delicious.  We started with bruschetta and each had a different main.  The crispy eggplant was amazing. Great find! Very small, 6 booths with plenty of bar space and a few outdoor tables. But food was amazing. Came in for a late lunch on a Saturday. Blackened Mahi sandwich and salad was very tasty, and can’t say enough about the boom boom sauce it came with. The special of Jerk Mahi wrap was excellent. Very surprised on the pricing. I keep forgetting about this nice little locally owned restaurant.  So glad my wife and I decided to come back here. It so refreshing to get a non-chain restaurant feel from the service to the freshness and quality of the food. Great menu. Great find! I want to come again and again. Hopefully I'll get more work trips to lake Mary and can visit again. I love small, quaint local shops and this place was perfect. Quaint cozy decor, seating at the bar but only six booths inside - making reservations a must, especially on a rainy day like ours. Plenty of seating outside for nicer days to enjoy the Florida sunshine. Located in the shops ringing Central Park in Lake Mary, so plenty of parking, plenty of shopping nearby and beautiful scenery.Great service - the waitress was clearly proud of the cuisine and the staff. She suggested sampling the local craft beers from the taps and brought a pair of frosty mugs with a splash of two suggestions to try. She also recommended the daily specials, as Lonnie goes to the local fish market daily to find what is good/fresh.The menu is in that perfect range of 'not trying to do everything but providing 1-2 of each category you might be interested in'. The wine list was very reasonable in cost - we chose a bottle of the Kuleto Frog Prince red blend from Napa Valley. We started off with the Thai mussels, a bowl of mussels in a broth of curry, coconut milk, garlic, cilantro and accompanied with thinly cut crisp bread, allowing you to spoon the mussels and make 'bruschetta' bites. The sauce itself was worth sipping with a spoon. My wife chose the coconut mahi, topped with a pineapple and coconut beurre blanc and accompanied by an aromatic Thai rice pilaf. Each entree also comes with choice of house or caesar salad. The server explained the components of the house salad to ensure against any allergies/dislikes/issues prior to putting in the order, which was a very conscientious touch.I chose the Asian Fish tacos, which had blackened mahi chunks over mango, cabbage and red pepper, topped with a wasabi aioli and gave them just a little bit of 'bite' on the finish. These came with house-made chips and gaucamole and a choice of veggies - I tried the parmesan stuffed roasted tomato, something I had not had before. The server suggested my house salad be topped with their Asian sesame dressing to pair better with the meal, another nice touch.After the meal, Lonnie himself stopped by the table to ask how everything was and get feedback on what we tried and what we liked about each. Surprisingly, all the food comes out of the back corner behind the bar, a little grill+fryer setup the size of an office desk. There is no 'back of the house' here, everything is open kitchen. And he makes each dish to order, so he can accommodate any requests or substitutions gracefully.We stumbled upon this place online that afternoon, and accidently discovered a gem. This is the second time I've eaten here and just wanted to give a shout out to them because the quality and freshness of the food, the creative dishes and the service has been above par both times. I cannot believe we waited so long to check this place out. Well, I take that back, we have tried before but they were always booked.  Last Friday as a surprise, my boyfriend lucked out in making a same day reservation.  We sat inside where they have a nice bar area and about 5 booths. They also have outside seating but it's close to another restaurants patio which can get pretty loud. The food was amazing! We started with a hummus plate that included both a garlic and a spicy hummus with pita bread. For our entrees, my boyfriend had the salmon which he enjoyed, and I had the panko crusted Mahi with a sweet tropical sauce over rice with veggies.   I can't wait to go back and order it again. This place is a hidden gem in Lake Mary. We ordered their snapper special and the fish tacos. Both were unbelievably amazing, even down to the side of vegetables (see photos). Even though it was busy, the waitress took the time to explain their history and introduce us to the owner, who was busy showing his son the ropes. They go to a local fish market, every day to get the main ingredients for their daily specials, which was very nice to hear. Service was phenomenal as well. Don't be surprised when you walk in and it is a tiny little restaurant with just one row of tables. There have been several restaurants here but this is a very nice, better than average eatery with an interesting menu and great prices. 4.5 stars for a great evening here in Lake Mary.  Lonnie's has an awesome location near the Lake Mary Event Center in the downtown area.  This place is definitely small but functional, especially with the seating areas outside.Looking for a nice place to converse over wine or alcohol?  This place is the spot; they offer several wine selections you'll need to try.  We came because of the Asian Fusion persuasion and we were looking for something different nearby.  We were greeted promptly just beyond the entrance and there were about 5 booth tables but only 2 available.  We sat in the very last booth next to the window.  Our waiter was very cordial, on point, and described many things on the menu.  He even made some great recommendations and they were all good!  For starters we ordered the calamari and Thai seasoned muscles.  The calamari was way over cooked but the Thai muscles were amazing!  We loved how the muscles sat in saucy fusioned flavors of bruschetta and Thai seasoning.  Of course most of the sauce sat at the bottom of the bowl but the thin slices of bread were surely made good use of!For our entrees we ordered the coconut Mahi Mahi and the blackened wasabi tuna salad!  Both dishes were executed great and cooked to perfection.  The Mahi Mahi was very tender, meaty, and came with sweet coconut on top.  Almost reminded of a pina colada flavor.  My tuna salad was cooked perfectly and the flavors were great.  All the flavors that I love about a tuna sushi roll were in that salad!  The sweetness from the eel sauce, the spiciness from wasabi, some soy sauce flavor with ginger, and avocado.  If you're a sushi lover, you would love this salad!Okay, so we've been sleeping on this place.  I will greatly return and order something else on the menu, just not the calamari.
