Was very awesome, even with knowing you may get bat pee on you! The tour guide was hillarious and made to ride very interesting. The trivia part he does is really cool. And OMG when he gives the safety instructions, he open and honest because it's a big deal, but manages to through a funny in tht as well More...
Tour guide Laura was just the Bomb.com. If not for this young lady the whole tour would have been a downer, I mean watching bats go to dinner and explanation of the Nouveau riche Austin skyline. Much props to the Chase building though, go Owls!I mean do it, but do it on Laura's boat. More...
This wasn’t the best river tour hard to find location and parking expensive boat smelled carpet dirty and restroom disgusting I recommend the San Antonio River boat tour
Awesome cruise! We had a great time showing around some friends who were visiting from out of town. We went on a really clear day so we got to see lots of bats. Captain Shelby and her coworker (I think Mike) the bat expert were really great and entertaining as well! Would totally recommend. And bring cash so you can leave a tip! More...
we went to a family friends wedding and it was amazing the captain and his assistant were very kind friendly people the boat was well organized and set up we loved it definetly recomend
Nice relaxing cruise. We enjoyed it immensely. Staff was informative. The only issue was they advertised beer on the ship but did not have any
We rented the boat for our reverse Rehearsal Dinner. We got married on Friday and we took all of our guests out on the boat Saturday night. The price is very reasonable (about $19 per person plus taxes) and then you get to bring your own alcohol and food. We catered Cabo Bob's Mexican food and they came and set it up on the boat for us. The boat offers a non alcoholic package at $5 per person and we just brought the alcoholic options. The bartender was very friendly and approachable and DJ, our boat captain was so wonderful to work with. He walked me through how the night would go and then walked me through the invoice at the end. He is very kind! Joye was our sales contact and she was very accommodating and helpful through the whole process, answering all of my questions on linens, food, timing, etc.We went from 6-8pm and saw the bats. Some of my favorite pictures from our wedding weekend was the city skyline on the boat. I highly recommend it for everyone's wedding weekend! More...
We booked this tour kind of last minute and was happy to see there were open tickets. Parking is not the easiest, but that is everywhere in Austin. We were in the boat with inside seating and were able to see the bats just fine. We moved to the bow of the boat while underway. It was nice to go back inside when the bats were overhead. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny. More...
Would definitely recommend, the sites are beautiful and usually you are Captain is very funny
Great way to spend the sunset in Austin. BYOB is always great, don't forget to bring water, too. Our guide, Kimber, was very funny and knowledgeable. We had a great time learning about the bats and floating peacefully along the lake. We saw a TON of bats and got to hang out watching them for quite a bit. Cheap, easy to access, fun, funny, and educational. Loved it! More...
The Lone Star Riverboat provides a pretty nice tour of Austin on the water, introducing the various skyscrapers in the downtown area, showing the array of outdoors bars and restaurants that people frequent on the hot summer days, as well as parks and statues dating back to historic figures. Compared to other boat tours, this didn't seem as informational and was a bit disorganized, but it was still pleasant. Unfortunately the weather was so hot that we couldn't tolerate sitting up at the top, and perhaps we would have changed our minds if there were misters to keep us cool. The downstairs covered portion was okay; a bit dingy and outdated with a cash only bar serving simple drinks. The room was pretty small and intimate with only a few tables of people able to fit inside. The views were mediocre thanks to the semi-clean windows. I would recommend coming back during a time when the weather is tolerable and you can actually sit at the top. I've also got to say, it was a beautiful sight seeing all the kayaks and peddle boats out on the water, especially the swan-shaped ones for couples to sit in. Definitely something I'd want to try next time. This tour gave a nice idea of how it is in Austin during the summer--fun, carefree, full of laughs and good food and drinks. I can't wait to visit again. More...
Great time with Captain Bella! Very informative and amazing view of the bats! Loved that it was BYOB. Make sure to arrive at least 15 min before to sit with your group.
We had such a great experience on the moonlight/midnight cruise! Definitely recommend sitting upstairs to fully enjoy the Austin skyline.
This was our second time using Lone Star to see the bats. Great little tour, always fun to listen to the staff tell stories of Austin. They have the process of boarding down to an art. Wait time was not bad and there was no long waits for the boat to leave. I highly recommend if you are wanting to see the bats leaving at night. More...

This is the 2nd time we have taken the bat tour. Relaxing and super time. No long lines or long waiting times. These people have it down to a science. Highly recommend
We chartered a 2-hour bat watching dinner cruise for 96 people with Lone Star. Joye was a pleasure to work with setting up the cruise. We had the catered fajita dinner and it was fabulous. I highly recommend getting the grilled veggies in addition to the fajitas. The captains Chris and Sharon kept things running smoothly, and I got a lot of compliments on how much everybody enjoyed the cruise, even though the bats decided not to participate! The Austin skyline is beautiful in the evening, and we had a great time even without the bats. More...
Great captains, interesting facts, good price.
Thanks Bella for a great tour on the little star! We had the best view of the sunset, the bats and the gorgeous city sky line. Thank you for a great evening. Don't forget to pack your cans of beer or white claw if you're into that. Lol More...
We loved seeing the bats. Captain Shelby was very entertaining and knowledgeable!
Let me start this review off by saying that if you are in Austin, TX and want to take a great tour to seeing the nightly Bat Tour, please visit Lone Star and ask for Captain Shelby's boat. Captain Shelby provided us a great tour and probably the best best views of the bats from start to finish. We were also provided with a good history of Austin and recommended some great places to visit. The Sunset Bat Tour is a really interesting tour to see over 700,000 bats flying from a bridge that happens every night.A must see thing at least once in your lifetime. More...
Love the experience the captains were super funny! Glad we booked online because the line was bonkers and would have been impossible to get a ride without online reservations.
Really fun cruise to see the bats. My kids took me for my birthday & we were blessed with a beautiful sunset, nice weather, and a fabulous view of the bats. Great bang for buck!BTW- The river is only 4ft deep for those nervous about being on the water... More...

Great experience with Captain Alyssa. The bats were amazing tonight and Alyssa was fun and gave lots of interesting facts!
We did the bat tour on a Friday night in August and learned so much! I originally wanted to do a kayak self guided tour to see the bats but am glad I did this first as you learn more about the bats and their migration. Would highly recommend for young children as they would get a total kick out of seeing thousands of bats take flight. Like others mention, the view is way better then the bridge. Did I get guano on me-- yes. But no big deal. Cost is also very reasonable $12 and tour is a little over an hour. They are located behind the Hyatt and parking at Hyatt is $10. This is the second largest urban bat colony in the world! #1 being some cave in Dallas. More...

Best of the Best! We had a great time and the captains were great!!
amazing experience. captian shelby did a fantastic job!
Great tour. Tour guide was very entertaining and knowledgeable about the bats and city of Austin. Would definitely recommend choosing the smaller boat over the larger. Would definitely go again.

Very interesting bat cruise. Funny, entertaining and informative. The whole family enjoyed the cruise.
Antoinette Alldolledup Crump
So much fun something cool to get the kids out the house!
Shelby was our boat captain, and made the whole hour informative and fun. She was hilarious too. I'd recommend this boat cruise to anyone.
My husband and I decided to go see the bats on a boat, it was such a neat experience. I recommend anyone who is a lover of animals, nature, or the city to go take this tour at least once! We left the dock about an hour before the bats flew and we went down the lake a little ways and our Captain, Alyssa, shared many facts about the city. We went to the bridge where the bats lived and she was very knowledgeable about the bats and answered many questions. The experience was nothing like I've ever done before. The only negative is that in our tour, there were some little children that made it very hard to hear some of the things she was saying. I know kids will be kids, but I would have liked a louder microphone! Parking was a little tricky to get to, other than that, the experience was great! More...
So amazing to see the bats, laughed a lot at our tour guides jokes and learned some of the history too! Definitely worth the cost!!

Cute, short afternoon tour of the lake
Was entertaining and informative. We did the evening bat tour. What an amazing sight.
Deena Oaks Sackey
Great way to see the bats! Bella was a great captain and a fabulous phone saver!
I've heard great things my 49th bday is August 24th and I'm bringing the crew so excited can't wait

Amazing Experience...a must if your visiting Austin! So glad we did!!
Overall great experience. Beautiful sunset and so many bats.I wish we had Captain DJ. Our captain talked a lot, but that might just be me being irritated. We were the last boat ( and there are a bunch) to get into position to see the bats exit the north side of Congress Bridge. I was worried we would miss it. We did miss the bats starting to fly out but there are so many flying, that part was okay. It's a must do if you've never seen the bats. We'll do the kayak bat tour next time. More...

A relaxing ride on Lady Bird lake. The “Captain” pointed out landmarks and buildings along the ride. And it’s BYOB too.
Cool way to see the bats!
I have looked at the bats on the South Congress bridge a number of times- some from above and a few times on boats. Lone Star River Boat is the best company out there! The crew are great and easy conversationalist. I forget his name but go with the guy with the light beard (and his fiance is generally there too). Wonderful time with friends and got some great pictures of the sunset and bats. Lone Star River Boat is not just for tourists from outside Austin! More...
great info and vantage point
It was very pleasant, even being hot outside, the boat captains were knowledgeable about Austin and the bats. It was fun.
Shelby was an excellent captain. We had so much fun!
It was awesome! Really cool o see the bats at night !
Jill Sackett Trotter
Such a great Tour with Captain Bella!
Our Captain, Shelby, was fun - entertaining info and delivered in a comedy show manner. It's BYOB, but there are no bathrooms. If the bats come out, you get a great view from on the water - they fly East and stay along the bridge so I don't think you'd see them too well from on top of the bridge. You do get sprinkled with a little bat poop - it's so small you don't really notice (it didn't stain anything). The bats come out of the bridge for 45 minutes, but you only stay under the bridge watching for about 10 minutes (all the boat companies stay on the water for the same length of time). So if you want to see the whole show, go early and stand on the bank of the river - be prepared for about 500 people to join you on the shore though (standing room only). More...
This was a really good tour for the cost. Captain Chris did a thorough job of pointing out key points along the shore and provided historical context. One thing to please make note of--bring cash! I felt so bad because there was a tip jar, but I rarely have cash on me and a tip was well-deserved. It might be a good idea for them to provide a digital option to provide a tip. It was very HOT on the top, and the lack of jovial banter on our tour was completely due to heat discomfort--not the captain's jokes. He was really funny and delivered great humor along the journey. Great view of the city. You won't be disappointed. More...
Captain Bella and Shelby had a difficult task with one boat not working. But they pulled thru like CHAMPS!! They kept the tour entertaining and FUN. If your in Austin. Take the Bat tour More...
the cruise around Lady Bird Lake was very relaxing. Had a perfect view of the bats and fireworks. Food was good as well.
boat was fun. captain was super funny and knowledgeable, well worth it. bats are super tiny, but she prepped us well. kids enjoyed it as well!
Awesome tour! Only way to really see the bats!
Such a cool trip! We had a fabulous guide as well!
It was fun and very entertaining! My grandchildren and I had a wonderful time! Thank you!
Great relaxing boat ride and informative tour of the Austin riverfront area. Oh and the bats are great, too! Tour guide was knowledgeable and funny!
For someone that knew nothing about bats and Austin general this was fun and entertaining worth going to
I've gone out on a bat seeing tour with much every visitor who's come in from out of town, and this is BY FAR the best! The captains were funny/entertaining as well as informative, and the boat was super comfortable.
So much fun!! The crew was so nice and funny and we learned so much!!
Lee Ann Countryman
Awesome bat tour. Thanks Captains.
We had a great time on our tour. We came to see the bats and we were not disappointed.
Loved our tour on the Lone Star Riverboat!! My friend was visiting from San Diego and absolutely enjoyed the tour! Learned a lot about the buildings in my new city. .. Captains were both really friendly and knowledgeable about Austin history. Would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in spending a day out on the water :)) More...

Fun time with the family on a beautiful Austin evening. Ended with watching the bats fly!
Our Captain was super sweet, funny and knowledgeable. Even though the bats didn't cooperate and very few flew out, the tour was still very enjoyable!
Really pleasant way to spend a couple of hours at sunset. Not too many bats to speak of but our tour guide was wonderful and it was a treat to see all the lights of the city coming on and then behold the wonderful skyline. Definitely worth the $12. It would cost more to park and watch from the bridge. More...

Great tour with lots of fun info on the Austin skyline. Crew were entertaining.
Captain Bella creates a fun informative and happy atmosphere. Enjoyed the ride!
I've lived here for four years and hadn't ever ridden in a riverboat for a bat tour. My friends came into town and we decided to do it! We reserved tickets in the afternoon and it was super easy, $12 a ticket and there was space still. We had Captain Alyssa on her 2nd ever solo boat tour and she was amazing. Cracking jokes with a little girl on our boat and her knowledge about Austin was extensive. It was windy so we didn't see a lot of bats compared to what I've seen before but she was able to help everyone see some, my friends were very happy! We suggest going with this company and ask for Captain Alyssa if you can! More...
nice little boat ride.om lady bird Johnson lake.
lot of fun and saw the bats. guide was good too
Beautiful sunset and Austin skyline. Educational and fun! The captain talked about the buildings in the Austin skyline and another person educated about the biology of the bats.
Shelby was a fantastic captain! She was lots of fun and was very knowledgeable! Fun facts about Austin, patient with the kiddie questions, and a great navigator! Would definite recommend!
This was a really great tour, and the bats were amazing!
This tour was definitely worth while during our stay in Austin. We did the bar tour and It was about an hour or so boat ride. Our guide took us up and down the water and pointed out some bridges and building with a small list of facts. The main reason though for this tour was of course to see the bats at Congress Bridge. It was pretty cool! Probably the best way to see the bats too. They warned of feeling rain drops that are actually bat droppings. I didn't notice it but just be aware that could happen. More...
We loved Captain Shelby! This was the best way to see the bats and learn about Austin at the same time. We'll be back!
We had a fantastic time on our bat cruise. Terrific captain that was funny and knowledgeable. Had perfect weather to see the bats. We had ages 7- 79 and everyone enjoyed it. More...

We had a great time. I've watched the bats from the bridge, but this was so much better. Captain Shelby did a great job; she was well informed, funny, and light hearted. I loved that it was only an hour or so. Any longer, I could have gotten bored. Any shorter, we wouldn't have gotten the full experience. More...
I've seen the bats in Austin several times. this was my best experience! Captain Corey was fantastic! highly recommend!
Get Capt. Shelby! We had a great time. Capt Shelby gave a wonderful tour. Great value. I would have given them 5 stars but the time spent just sitting on the boat was way too long. Other than that it was all perfect!Highly recommend. More...
The bat boat tour of the city was pretty great. Our tour guide/captain was hilarious and very knowledgeable about the city. The bats aren't very visible from above the bridge so I'm really glad I took the tour to see the bats from below. Bring drinks! They had a corkscrew for wine. The seats aren't super comfortable but they have backs and are movable. They're nicer lawn chairs. Accessible for someone with mobility limitations. There is a single step up onto the ramp so not wheelchair accessible. More...
We thoroughly enjoyed Lone Star Riverboat's "Bat Cruise". Employees were very friendly and welcoming. The cruise itself was very informative with lots of Austin history and information on the bats and also the Egrets that roost on the river. Highly recommended!

Wonderful evening with wonderful friend. The boat was comfortable, the captain was funny and had Friendly. I would highly recommend this
My parents were in town so I took them on the sunset bat cruise and it was awesome! The river is beautiful to be out on and the city is so lovely in the evening. The captain did a great job of telling us about both the city and the bats -- I learned a ton! As someone who just moved here, this was a great way to get more familiar with wonderful Austin.Even though it was early in the season, we saw a ton of bats, which was so cool. I learned a lot about how they first ended up coming here, what their lifecycle is like, how they survive, etc. The boat itself is simple, but it was fun to sit on the top deck. It's BYOB, so we brought a nice dinner picnic and it was great to enjoy it on the water. Super reasonably priced and an excellent activity for visitors! More...

Great view of the bats from Congress Bridge!! Captain of the boat was very funny!
had such an amazing time. both captain and tour guide where phenomenal and informational. it was a great cruise on Lady Bird Lake, and a great way to see the city skyline.
Informative, Relaxed & Laid Back. Oh & Entertaining!!
Nice ride in the sunshine and educational
A very good experience, well worth the time and money
very nice boat ride and music was great
I booked LSR for a rehearsal dinner and it was honestly the best decision I ever made. My wife and I were blown away by how perfectly it went, and our guests were in awe of the entire experience. We had about 45 people on our cruise (most from out of town) and we were so happy to see how much they enjoyed seeing what Austin, Texas is all about. We had food catered in, brought our own adult beverages, and they let us do our thing. Captain AJ and Aaron were fantastic the whole time, and the views of downtown Austin at night were breathtaking. Towards the end of the night, they took us over to see the bats fly out! Thank you all for making it a wonderful time! Definitely recommended for any large parties or a rehearsal dinner! More...
Had a great time on the Lone Star Riverboat. Didn't make a reservation but was lucky enough to board. Wouldn't recommend not making a reservation as the boat did fill up and people were turned away. it was fun and a great tour of the lake and watching the bats was fun and interesting on my 70th Birthday
We came for my friends birthday and we had an amazing time!!! Wonderful history, architecture, and of course the BATS! Our captain Bella was the best and gave some fun recommendations. I HIGHLY recommend this tour!
it was fun and a great tour of the lake and watching the bats was fun and interesting
A must do when visiting Austin. So glad we choose this over watching from bridge. Our captain was very knowledgeable and entertaining. I would highly recommend!
Прекрасная возможность полюбоваться красотой центра Остина.
This was such a great tour! We were looking for something family friendly to do in Austin since we could not go to local parks due to the amount of rainfall that had came down that week. The tour guides were so funny and kept us rolling the whole time! I would recommend this tour to anyone. It not only gave you great facts about the bats but the tour also gave us some insight on the buildings that are in downtown Austin. Make sure to carry cash to tip the tour guides as I am sure that you will want to tip them. More...

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ went for the bat boat tours. Highly recommend!
I felt so lucky that I found this place on yelp! This sunset/bat cruise is definitely one of the most pleasant experience I have had in Austin as a San Franciscan! The sunset view from the Colorado river is breathtaking and we were overwhelmed by the visual experience of catching 1.5million bats flying out for food! Even If you want to catch the bats without taking the cruise, you could just walk to the Congress Ave bridge where you would find a lot of people standing and awaiting the bats around 7-8pm ! Tips: bring a cold drink and some snacks with you!!! The cruise was about an hour ride and hopefully u do not get dehydrated from exposing to the sun :) I will surely bring my tourist friends here next time! More...

I went lastnight for the bat tour (first timer) and was pleasantly surprised to pay less (as a walk-up) versus having booked online. Parking at the Hyatt Regency for $5 was super simple. I grabbed myself a sandwich from the Hyatt Starbucks and brought a couple of beers from home. The captain/tour guide was knowledgeable and funny. It would have been much better if the captain stopped talking while we watched the bats emerge from the bridge. I really wanted to enjoy this natural phenomenon but struggled to do so because the sounds of the bats were competing with the voice of our tour guide. More...
fantastic experience to go out and see the bats go out on a night hunt.. our host was funny and knowledgeable..
It was a great experience. DJ, did a great job of giving us information during our ride. Captain Chris kept us safe from the icebergs. LOL. I strongly recommend it.
We absolutely enjoyed the tour. Captain Shelby was amazing, educational, and an absolute delight.
It was a Great Experience for our Family! We truly enjoyed our trip. The boat captain and his mate were knowledgeable. The boat ride was amazing a real 10/1 in my opinion I loved the jokes made by the lady driving us and the way she brought light to things that some of us might of not known about where we live and of course we got to see so many bats flying that night it was truly mesmerizing to see so many bats at once coming from someone who has only seen bats on her phone or seeing videos of people seeing them.
We had a blast on our bat cruise!!! So glad we opted for a boat tour rather than standing on the bridge!!! Our captain was awesome!!! Thanks for a fun evening!!!
Michael Živko Jurković
Captain Chris was hilarious. He told the greatest dad jokes and was very informative. He shared a lot of useful information in a friendly and informative way. Glad I took the tour!
The tour was great. The tour guide was funny. And we didn’t die. The bats were amazing. My daughter got hit by the amazingly educational and multi-purposeful guano but she survived as well! I will do it again the next time we travel to Austin! More...
Wonderful time on the Lone Star Bat Cruise. All of the staff are so friendly and nice. It was very well organized too. I saw a few reviews where people complained about losing their seats. If you follow the instructions and arrive when they tell you too you will have no problems. We saw several people come later than what the instructions said and cause a scene, I felt sorry for the workers, it wasn't their fault. You can actually get on the boat, claim your seat and then go to the nearby Hyatt and use the restroom, get coffee at Starbucks or enjoy the bar at the Hyatt while you wait for the 8:00pm leave time. We had a great captain, Captain Hans Solo! He was so nice and shared history of the Austin area as we cruised around waiting for bat thirty. He timed it perfectly and we saw all the bats leaving to hunt with a beautiful Austin sunset in the background, amazing! It was so much fun and Captain Hans Solo was the best!! More...
We took the bat viewing cruise which my family really enjoyed. I recommend it for anyone who wants to get the full Austin bat experience. The boat tour takes you all over Lady Bird Lake with our guide telling us about the history of Austin, the buildings and various parks you can view along the way. The bats were amazing and I appreciated the bat facts that were shared. I loved it and my 9 year old did as well. We've seen the bats before in the viewing spot, however, I like the tour better. The tours run March to October and are BYOB with no glass containers. There are no bathrooms on the boat. You need to be at the location starting at 7:15. If you don't arrive prior to 7:45, the boat company will give away your spot to those from the waitlist. To find the meeting point, your best bet is to ask someone at the Hyatt where to go. There is no signage once you get down to the river. Finding parking is the biggest challenge. The Hyatt parking garage was closed. We didn't want to be late so we ended up paying for valet parking. There is an open air parking lot by the Hyatt with an attendant, but you need cash. They don't accept credit cards. More...

Lots of fun, comfortable and informative!

Great fun with Captain Shelby whose wry sense of humor provided “education” on the sites of Austin, bats and icebergs. The bat experience itself was a sight to behold and a great experience - so appreciated the warning on not to open your mouth in awe as you observed the direct overhead flights! A don’t miss it! A fun, relaxing, and hilarious cruise! Very laid-back. BYOB. A great way to take in the sunset, the skyline, and of course the bats! This was a fun one hour trip! I learned some interesting things about Austin. It was hard to hear the commentary due to it not being very loud and people were talking during the presentation. Fun tour to do! Nice crew. Decent comfort.
Very nice relaxing tour. Bring drinks and snacks. You can see so much of Austin and get some beautiful photos.
Great evening boat ride with captain Aaron and his wife. The seats were comfortable, velocity was appropriate and the views breathtaking. He provided a nice overview of Austin, the new condos and hotels along the river, and interjected it with salient humor. Then we got to witness the bats. Thousands and thousands of bats coming out underneath the bridge all female and pregnant. It was an extraordinary experience, well worth the time and money. More...
Very good trip only wish I had taken the night ride. Totally recommend and would do it again if I hadn't moved!
The tour lasted about an hour and a half and for $12 each, it was a good deal for a couple of tourists! The host knew a lot of information about businesses and new residences going up downtown. We also learned a bit of Austin's history. The most interesting tidbit for us was the bat history and we're going back to see them take off at sunset. During our tour, the microphone wasn't working which made it hard for us to hear the tour guide. He stood in one spot the whole time with no microphone so if you were sitting near him you got to hear that entire speech. I would suggest coming early - especially if you have a big group. The boat opens 45 minutes early for docking and 15 minutes later it was hard for families to sit together. I would also suggest sitting up front on the top deck if you want to be close to the tour guide. The views were great and loading and unloading were handled well. Al in all, this was a cool experience and I would do it again on a day with breezy weather. More...

Happened upon this attraction as we were walking down the the Anne and Roy Butler Park trail along the Colorado River banks. Every Friday evening @9:45pm you can bring your own beverage (alcoholic kinds too!) and sit up on the upper deck (or lower deck!) for their Moonlight River Cruise. The coolest part was this usually is booked to capacity (you buy tickets on their website) though if you wait til 10:15pm - the captain will sell additional tickets (cash only) for seats not filled. For $10/person, great 1 hour trip, relaxing and quite romantic. More...

We were entertained by the dry wit of Captain Shelby last night, while enjoying the Austin skyline from the river and of course the stars of the evening- the many bats. We ranged from aged 8 years to 47 years, and all equally enjoyed it. Have recommended this tour to two other families since. Buy your tickets online and get there early. Also good to remember there won’t be a bathroom and to BYO your own drinks. More...
I bought the boat tour on a whim when i spontaneously decided I wanted to drive to Austin from Dallas. I had heard about the bats, but wasn't sure how to get there myself so I thought the tour would be my best opportunity to see them. The ride was about 2 hours at sunset, and we cruised around and the guide gave us some interesting facts about the city and architecture. Then we made our way to the bridge to see the bats and our guide was pretty good at pointing different things out such as the direction they were flying and where to look. Since I was solo, it was definitely a great tour to take, especially since I wanted to look at the bats. There was so many, and our guide was telling us that the view is better from under the bridge instead of standing on it like everyone else. P.S. Make sure you get there on time! They will give your spot away if you don't. They're pretty strict about it! More...

Never been there. But saw place in lot pictures.
Had a fantastic time! Had our uber drop us off at the Hyatt and we walked down to the dock. I had no idea what to expect but the view of the bats was amazing!!
This is my 2nd year to do this trip with some students. It's a great outing - not too long and not too short. They are very organized, the tickets are very reasonably priced and it's easy to find and get on the boat. Captain Shelby was awesome - she talks just enough and is entertaining, informative and the jokes aren't too cheesy. Highly recommended for tourists and Austinites. It's a great way to see the bats and get some wonderful views of downtown Austin. More...
Recomend this to any one local or not :)
Had a great time and enjoyed seeing all the bats. Nice crew. You will get wet from the bats when they fly over you and it's not water.
Had a really good time and thought this was an awesome value for the money. I'm pregnant so I didn't drink, but it's BYOB. However, they don't have a restroom on the boat, so consider that if you "break the seal" easily. I was a little disappointed that they put us in a little open-air pontoon boat rather than the actual riverboat because someone had rented it for the evening. It would have been nice to know that in advance. I'm a local but actually learned a few things about Austin. More...
We boarded our cruise ship and went to go watch the bats at congress bridge. The two captains were super nice and had lots of knowledge about Austin,Texas. The we got bat poop on us but its all part of the tour and I learned that mascara has poop in it. Lol the ride was about 2 hours long and its BYOB!!!! More...
Have been on this boat twice now and have always had a good experience. For $10 a ticket you get a 1/1.5 hour tour of downtown Austin on the water and the guides are hilarious. The tour is very informative about the history of Austin and is an amazing view of the bats from under the bridge.Definitely get there early if you have a large party and want to sit together cause spaces fill up fast. And bring some cash to tip the tour guides. Definitely recommend for out of town guests and a fun, inexpensive evening activity. More...
Our bat tour was great! Well worth the money and our captain made the tour even more fun! He has the entire boat laughing for the whole hour! We'll definitely be back!
Rian is an awesome captain!!! Thank you for such a wonderful time and funny jokes!
Had a great time and our captain was very funny. He's also very knowledgeable about the bats and Austin as well. We will certainly do this again.
Loved it, tour guide was great and the price was the best compared to all other tours
Booked the Sunset Bat Cruise. My flight into Austin was delayed just enough to miss the loading time, so I contacted Lone Star Riverboat. They were able to reschedule my reservation for another night and really made my weekend! The top deck was warm waiting to take off, a lot of people with kids moved to the lower boat in the shade. It was very pleasant once we started moving. The Captain had a great sense of humor and did a wonderful job educating the guests about the bats and the history of the city's skyline. We had a fantastic view of the bats and I would book this tour again in a heartbeat! More...
This review is for Captain Robert he was great with the kids and very informative for the adults. He also was very funny and kind. The people on the dock were kinda rude and pushy but Captian Robert saved the day. He gave my family a great experience. If you go request him you won't regret it. Thanks Captain Robert. More...
Great experience, definitely a must on the to-do list when visiting Austin. The staff was excellent. Thanks for the experience.
After 7 years living in Austin I had a reason to go on this tour, a Visiting family member. It was so worth the wait and I highly recommend it. Our boat captain Han 'solo' and captain DJ made our experience even better! They gave you a little history and facts about the bats that live under our Congress Bridge from March to November. Glad I was able to experience this with my family!! More...
AWESOME! 5/5 for Captain Chris alone! He is hilarious and not enough people were laughing at his jokes even though my family was cracking up! The tour gives a good overview of the city and the buildings and some history. It's an hour long so if you're coming during the summer I recommend bringing an umbrella or hat and come cool drinks (is BYOB!). Make sure you have sunscreen on as well. Brave the heat and sit on the upper deck--it's so worth it. More...
Very decent experience on our "batsy" tour. Robert was informative, had a good schtick going and managed to not get me pooped on (which was more I felt the bats' respect in knowing I too had my own batshit working-maybe I've just learned how to fly better under the sonar).
Probably the best 10 ever spent! Can't wait to take my son!
We did this as a family outing and it was the best. The Lone star had multiple boats (3 pontoons and their large boat). Our captain on our pontoon was "Hans Solo" and he was informative and hilarious. He really made the evening great and entertaining. I would definitely do this again and again not only because he amazingness of the bats but the company we kept. A must if traveling in Austin during bat time. More...
We have never experienced the bats in Austin and wanted to make sure we got a great view. So I booked tickets for our family of four. We enjoyed the tour of the lake and all of the information from our tour guide/captain. We had front row seats to see the bats and were right on time to see them depart on their nightly hunt. Our kids are looking forward to going back in the fall when the guide says the number of bats increase. We will definitely be booking here again. Do show up early as suggested even if you book your tickets on line so you have your choice of seats. We chose to ride on one of the smaller boats. More...
My friend rented one of these boats to propose to his girlfriend on the top deck and have his guests waiting on the bottom deck for a surprise engagement party. It wouldn't have happened if it weren't for the team at Lone Star Riverboat. They were courteous, patient, and engaged. They were willing to answer questions and make suggestions to ensure it remained a surprise for the Fiancé. I was surprised how invested they were and how willing they were to keep the guests hidden during the proposal. You guys are amazing! More...
Fun, well organized, and easy to make reservations.

We enjoyed this informative & rather humorous Bat Boat Tour! Hahn was a very personable guide!! We took 5 kids with us ages ranging from 4 yrs to 13 yrs! ! I'm 59 yrs old ... it was enjoyable for all!! Great deal for $10!! We brought our own drinks with us ranging from water, capri suns & beer!! I HIGHLY recommend this tour!! More...
Amusing trip! I recommend it. Don't forget to have in your bucket list for your next trip to Austin. :-o
The staff was very courteous, helpful, and extra fun. They had great information and history not just about the bat watching but also about Lady Bird Lake. We definitely got more than we expected. The bat watching was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and the sheer volume of bats was incredible. A great value for a low price. Don't question it, this is as advertised and more. More...

1.5 million Bat's, everything is cool in Austin, TX! Beautiful city, fun time!
Was a bit skeptical about a bat tour but it was fantastic! Definitely come check this out if you are in town. Be warned there is some bat poop droppings that come as the bats come out. Can't truly say it's a one of a kind excursion. The captain's are very knowledgeable. We had Shelby and she was informative and funny. More...
My boyfriend & I loved the experience we had with Lonestar Riverboats. The boats are not glamorous but they're all you need to cruise the river & get a GREAT view of the bats. The captain gave us a little bit of history as we cruised up & down the lake. I live in Austin & was able to learn a few new tidbits about my city. I would definitely ride again! The price was right & the hour out on the water was just enough! Not to mention how beautiful it was. More...
Absolutely loved it !!! Totally a must !!! Seeing the bats take off from a different perspective was incredible !
Beautiful views of the city!! Our great Capt. Keely told the best jokes! The bats put on a great show and you can't beat the price! By far the best way to see Austin's famous bats!! More...
Great time capt laura as fun the view was magnificent
There are a few ways to experience the beautiful flight of half a million bats at the Congress Street bridge at sunset (from the bridge itself, from a park at the south end of the bridge, or from adjacent restaurants), but this has to be one of the best ways. The trip on the boat included a funny and informative narration from Captain Shelby about not only the bats but the buildings located along the shores of the lake. It was a wonderful way to spend my last night in this fabulous city. And a bargain at $10 per person. I made reservations two days in advance online but had a friend join us at the last minute with no problem after he called the same day to reserve his spot. I highly recommend this tour! More...
My family & I took the new live music bat boat. I bought tickets online 2 days before. It's a 2 hour boat ride, BYOB. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Right around sunset, the captain positioned us about 30 feet from the bridge and we could see and hear all of the bats fly out. This is definitely the way to see the bats. Kid-friendly too! More...
Had a wonderful experience with this company on a bat watching cruise! We made reservations which are highly recommended. So glad we did too as they were sold out and this was on a weekday ! Our captain (male/student-I can't remember his name) did a super job incorporating bat facts, facts about the sights & buildings you were seeing along with jokes & a sense of humor. He maneuvered the boat so that we could take great photos of the bridge & sunset in the background, best view position to see bats exiting the bridge, etc. Don't forget to bring tip money as the Captain tries really hard to give you a memorable experience!I highly recommend this cruise company! More...
Went with 3 friends on the bat watching ride. It was great! Very reasonable price for a terrific way to watch the bat exodus. It lasts about an hour and you watch the sunset and see and learn about some of the Austin skyline before the bats start moving. Our captain was informative (and full of bad jokes!). Quite enjoyable. We went for the Saturday afternoon tour - it was blazing hot but it was very well done and a fun little adventure - especially for only $10! Make sure to leave them a tip!
Very well done, my wife and I had a blast. You can't beat the price.
Great activity for guests from out of town! BYOB. I Reserved the bat sunset cruise on the website, received a confirmation email with clear direction along with a follow-up email with a 10% discount on my next booking. This was the perfect organized outing for all of my family and friends that came to town for my son's graduation. It is important to reserve in advance. If you have a straggler the day of the tour, they will put their name on a waiting list. Please note, you want to get their 45 minutes before your tour departs, put the stragglers name on the waitlist as soon as you get there (first come first serve). 15 minutes before departure, they will start allowing waitlist people on board if seats are available. No reservation, no guarantee. Good news for us, my daughter (said straggler) was able to cruise with us :). We parked for free in the public parking area at Auditorium shores. Easy breezy access to walk under the bridge to Lone Star. Our Captain was hilarious, knowledgeable, and very engaging! She shared info about the history of the lake, the buildings, the park and the bats! This was the best idea ever! I definitely recommend booking a sunset bat cruise. I will be looking into the other types of cruises as well! More...
We went on the bat cruise last night and it was awesome. We had captain Hans solo and he was absolutely amazing. Also found out for a future trip that my paraplegic veteran husband can get his wheelchair on the boat so he isn't left out of the fun. Thanks for a great time and all the information about Austin!!! More...
I originally planned for the 4 of us to sit on the grass to watch the bats, then I happened upon this tour on TripAdvisor. So, I booked it. I am SO glad that I did. The price is very reasonable at only $10 per person. I recommend booking online and arriving 45 minutes before departure, as they will sell all seats to walk-ups. When the bats first departed, I thought, what a bummer...then MORE came out and it was simply amazing! Pictures do NOT do it justice. This is a must - do in Austin. More...
Best way to see the beautiful skyline and the bats!
They need to upgrade the generator that kept over heating but they made due and gave a great tour.
Tonight was my second trip on the bat cruise. My first trip was with captain Shelby and it was her first tour. Tonight we had her again and she was still just as funny and we had an awesome time. Her jokes made us laugh and she was super knowledgeable. It's not everyday you meet an austin "unicorn." She's the bat queen! More...

Terrific! Fun, informative bat tour ! Really great way to see the city at sunset too. One recommendation: mark your location at the entrance on Barton Springs. The driveway signage gave no indication your dock was there and we had great difficulty finding you. Fortunately we had plenty of time. Lovely time over all More...
Had a great time. Crew was funny and helpful to a handicap and helpful in general.
This was so much fun!! It's a great way to learn a little bit about Austin and Capt Shelby had a some great info about the surrounding buildings, bridges and lake. This a great outing for all ages. We took our 11 yr old and 2 yrs old with us. They got a kick out of the turtles in the water. The bats we amazing though!!!! After seeing a few scouts fly out suddenly tins were just flying out from under the bridge and flying over head and above the trees. They make the most adorable squeaking sounds!!!! We will definitely be back!!! More...

Captain Chris, really knows about Austin. Great tour, recommended for everyone

I made reservations on the wrong date, and when I changed them, Joye was very easy to work with and made them seamlessly. She advised to get there early for a good seat and told me I could bring a picnic . We got there in plenty of time and had a great seat on the top deck. Capt Chris was great from the beginning of taking our tickets until we left the boat. Humorous and knowledgeable. When the cruise was over, I ended up forgetting my wallet on the top deck, and after some paranoia, and panicking, Joye ended up calling me back stating they had it and that I could get it before the sunset cruise sailed. When I picked up the wallet, Chris was super friendly in handing it back to me and not expecting a tip in return. Great customer service, great experience all around. I will make this a must do when family come to visit! More...
Great experience. Nice 1 hour tour of Lady Bird Lake and the downtown Austin skyline. We did a daytime cruise. Large and comfortable boat--with bathrooms. Very knowledgable captain and courteous crew. Price--very reasonable. I highly recommend it on your trip to Austin. More...
We had a fantastic time on this and thoroughly enjoyed our guide. She was their youngest captain and was witty, charming, and fully knowledgeable. We loved it!
I came to Austin from Houston for a conference and decided to go on the boat tour solo last minute. I was able to book at 6 pm for an 8 pm sunset/bar tour on a Monday night. Luckily, there were 4 spots remaining. I was able to park for free at the park and walk to the dock - I didn't find any songs along the way, which would have been helpful. I arrived with around 7:30 and there was a waiting list for cancellations so make sure you reserve ahead. Our tour guide was humorous and had disguised adult jokes along the way. The bats were magnificent! I've been to the Waugh Bat Colony in Houston and nothing compares to the sunset reflecting on the water and the magnitude of bats flying in the sky. I would recommend this cruise to anyone that wants to try a unique (reasonably priced) experience. More...
My wife and I really enjoyed our cruise. We choose to sit on the top deck of the larger boat versus the platform of the smaller boat, and we're glad we did. We got a better view and less crowding. The BYOB policy was a plus. The ride up and down the river/lake was really enjoyable before the bat's started flying. The boat rode under the bridge a couple of times before the bat's took flight so you could get a glimpse of them on their perches. The boat is equipped with a high-powered spotlight with a red filter (it doesn't disturb the bats) and we saw them coming down and out of the cracks they live in when they started taking off. They took off rather late, so if it weren't for the spotlight, I'm not sure we'd have seen much more than a cloud of bats heading over the trees. This cruise seemed to be the perfect way to see everything (skyline, river, bats [and where they live], etc). The only suggestion we'd have is for them to turn up the sound on the PA system. The captain gives an excellent narrative of the city, the bats, the river, etc. The problem we had was we only caught one or two words per sentence, and we were sitting mid-ship. I don't think the people behind us heard anything. And if someone is talking around you, you won't hear anything no matter where you sit. All-in-all, we would certainly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city. More...
Seating on the top deck is limited, so GET THERE EARLY. You really don't want to be stuck on the lower deck, it kinda kills the point of going to see the bats. Went on their sunset bat watching cruise and had a lovely time! The tour guide was nice and knowledgeable. The whole tour/viewing is about an hour/hour and a half, and has a really convenient location within walking distance to the 1st Street bridge for going out afterwards. BYOB, cans preferred (you aren't supposed to have glass, but some people certainly did bring bottles and no one said anything). More...
Lone Star Riverboat is awesome! Definitely recommend it.
We had a great time. This is much better than standing on the bridge and trying to find the bats. Our out-of-town guests loved it
My family and I took the sunset bat cruise and it was awesome! Our Captain (Katie) provided excellent information about Austin and the ongoing building development. I learned a lot about the area and have lived here for 5 years. The boat sailed at a nice smooth pace and it was great that we got to see the bats start flying. Our boat crew was not in a rush and provided some very educational information about the bats. The weather was gorgeous and it was nice that it was BYOB.We paid $15 to park at the Hyatt as there was no free street parking available. The cruise was definitely worth the price though. More...

So much fun! Our captain (can't remember her name) was awesome! My daughter and her friend loved it too
Reasonably priced and nice folks running the place. Be sure and not be late because they WILL fill the boat up. BYOB and anything else you need for an hr trip. No drinks or snacks otherwise. Also, no bathrooms so hit up the Hyatt on tour way down. You can park in Hyatt's lot for a smaller fee than on the street in some cases too. More...

Great experience! Very impressed with our Captain...she knew so much about the bats. I've wanted to see the bats for years and this was the perfect way to do it!
Great trip tonight, even if had to be cut short due to the thunderstorm! At least we got to see bats!
Had a fabulous time on this boat ride. The tour guide was very knowledgable, informative and funny. I liked that it was BYOB, but I did not like that we couldn't rearrange the seats to sit closely together. We arrived at the bat bridge at perfect timing. When we arrived, the bats had already started flying out. Also, it was nice to be able to face the skyline and get an awesome picture. We made a reservation online and got there 15 minutes prior to departure. We had no problems, but I did notice a family get sent away because they only accept CASH only at the dock. When you book online, you can pay by card. Overall, good time and I would recommend it to a friend. More...
They were super rad! We all had so much fun. They were professional and awesome! Highly recommend them for your special day, event or whatever you're doing!
We had our Company Holiday party this weekend with Lone Star Riverboat. The boat was clean, the staff was professional, and the ride was smooth. I worried about getting motion sickness and feeling the deep below --- all for nothing. I couldn't even tell the boat was moving, that's how smooth the ride was. I would definitely ride again...and again...and again. More...

Captain Chris was the best! I can't imagine a better bat boat tour.
Great view of the city, knowledgeable and funny guide!
We took the Bat Cruise on this service. Arrive REALLY early to get good seats. We arrived about 20-30 minutes before sailing and it was already pretty full. Our guide was entertaining, and the ride was pleasant, but the bats were the amazing part. Even my middle-schooler was impressed! It really is an amazing view from the water - worth the money. Took our granddaughter to watch the bats and had a wonderful time. Very organized and had a very friendly staff. Boat was clean and guide was entertaining. Well worth the price.
We did the bat tour. The tour guide was funny and informational. The tour included a bit of history, landmark callouts, and of course...bats!
This was so much fun! Our captain was very funny and knowledgable. We had kids and adults in our group and we all really enjoyed it.
It was a fun evening. The boat attendance were great.

It was cool seeing the bats at night. Good tour....
Very enjoyable , a nice leisurely cruise down the river for an hr. I would recommend getting there 45 minutes before your cruise as it fills. up fast in the air conditined bottom part. Once it gets moving though, outside is nice and windy and cool. More...

I recommend this tour. The boat captains are funny and highly knowledgeable. Great tour.
I'd like to thank you so much for your assistance in our cruise event. We all had fun and enjoyed the cruise very much, even though the weather was less than cooperative. The crew was great and extremely helpful in set up and take down. All in all it was great and I'd do it again. More...
Last night, we had one of the greatest experiences of our "well travelled" lives. Captain Chris took us out for a "bat tour". Try to envision 700,000 bats departing from the underside of a bridge on a beautiful Austin night. You really can't, until you've experienced it! Captain Chris spent about an hour giving us an update on a history of the Austin skyline interjected with humor that either had you cringing or chuckling under your breath at the subtlety! Great tour, great fun, great time. You can't go wrong! More...
I highly recommend Lone Star! We were on the smaller boat (a pontoon) and it was perfect (minus not having restrooms). Captain Chris was entertaining and knowledgeable and we really enjoyed it. The bats are unreal!
Fun! Nice tour of Austin lake enjoyed that we could bring own food and drinks added to the experience great price! Could have used some AC inside during the summer but overall nice tour would go again.
Huh, I swear I just felt a raindrop. But there isn't a cloud in the sky...While I'm not thrilled about the inevitable online Big Brother apocalypse, wherein massive internet search engine and social media monstrosities and their evil minions, like review sites, gleam metadata about our spending habits, sexual preferences and foodie interests and turn us into a collective zombie consumer army, there can be some upsides while we march. I was in Austin, and I figured I should see the bats in San Antonio. So I started to Google "bats in" and before I could begin my Spanish foray, Google suggested Austin. Because Google knew where I was. Because I had the location feature turned on, to allow Google to know. And Google is absolutely, positively evil."Bats in Austin?" I wondered aloud, and then searched. Sure enough, the largest urban colony of Mexican Free-tailed bats in North America resides in Austin, under one bridge, hundreds of thousands of them. Who knew? In the article, Lone Star Riverboat was referenced. Being a good automaton, I then searched for Lone Star on Yelp, and the reviews were strong. I called, leaving a message, I wanted four seats on the boat that evening. Five minutes later I received a call from the owner: we were in. Cash only. Arrive early. BYOB.The tour was informal and enjoyable. We rode the water for 50 minutes before the bats emerged; in the meantime we enjoyed a local's take on the history of this burgeoning city. Informative and opinionated, flavorful. And speaking of flavor: they say the bat guano, or poo, smells like warm tortillas. AND IT'S SO TRUE! Whoever made that sensory connection, however, should seek help immediately. And they also say that when you're watching the bats fly overhead and you feel a raindrop and there isn't a cloud in the sky... More...

I'm not sure what other reviewers were expecting but I had no expectations and therefore I was richly rewarded by a wonderful trip on the river. It was a beautiful night, the boat moved smoothly through the water, everybody on board that I saw were happy, dancing, singing, and enjoying themselves. We didn't get to see the bats, but the food was good, the music great, and that attitude of everyone I talked to very positive. All in all a memorable experience and I hope to take the trip again. For those bad reviews about this place, Lonestar Riverboat, I have read that people are very upset that they didn't get to go on the big paddlewheeler boat on a batwatching cruise, well actually if you go to the website and read through it and take the time to read it our website clearly states that the Little Star and the Southern Star(both pontoon boats) are our boats that we take out on our batwatching cruises. Both pontoon boats are plenty big enough and there are several reasons why we take these boats....#1 is because you can see the bats alot better because the pontoon boats have open tops and you can't really see the bats as good in the big paddlewheel boat and this is a pretty important reason why...#2 is because it is very expensive to run the big paddlewheel boat and it takes a crew of at least 2 people to take the boat and with paying 2 people that would drive the cost of admission up by having to pay a crew of 2 people......#3 is that the big paddlewheel boat only hold 80 people so on nights when we have 100 people with reservations for the bat cruise some people would get left out.........#4 last and final reason is that on most nights the big paddlewheel boat is out on a private chartered cruise from 7:30-9:30 mainly so this would make it impossible to take the big boat out on batwatching cruises. I hope this helped some people ease their mind about making a decision to come see us because we really are nice people and also I was reading a review that the big paddlewheel boat is a piece of junk....well it is a 1972 model homemade boat and I think it is in great shape for being that old and it IS an AUTHENTIC PADDLEWHEELER, one of the last left in Texas, and just FYI the new boat is on order and will be here hopefully by July 15, 2008. For those of you that took the time to read this thank you I am Captain Derek, Captain of the big paddlewheeler boat so come book your private party and have a good time. More...
