This review is for Scampo, the Italian restaurant within Liberty Hotel. I have now been to Scampo on several trips to Boston and love it more each time.  The restaurant itself is light and airy. The service is very attentive and prompt.  The food is delicious, especially the pizzas! And the hotel itself is just too cool...this is an old prison converted to a luxury hotel.Do yourself a favor and have a delicious Italian meal here while dining in a cool space. More...

Beautiful, uber-hip hotel with a few flaws.  First, the decor and design are stunning.  Second, even the people here seem to be stunning - definitely the hotel for the under-35 chic and moneyed set.  Not just a hotel to stay at, but a party location on weekends, with a DJ, bars, and cocktail lounges.  The rooms are a bit small, although the bathroom contained both a shower and a tub and was very comfortable, although a few additional towels would've been appreciated.  In terms of issues, they include a fairly bad location in terms of ability to find it (for you or your Uber driver); very thin pillows (ask for extra); an AC unit that doesn't get very cold (and they've disabled all but the lowest fan setting); and - if you're unlucky enough to be the third wheel in the room - one of the most uncomfortable rollaway beds I've ever "slept" on.  I honestly now know what it feels like to sleep in a prison based on the poor quality of the rollaway bed.  I could literally feel the metal coils on my body the entire night through the world's thinnest mattress (and calling it a "mattress" - and not a sheet of paper - is being generous).  Lastly, there is no gift shop or hotel store from which to buy necessities; you'll need to run down to the CVS. Oh, and the room isn't cheap; we paid $600 a night for the pleasure.Still, I can't bring myself to give it less than four stars, as the place is truly spectacular to look at, and the variety of bars and restaurants in the hotel make it a treat to come to.  Overall, a super cool place with myriad small faults. We stayed at the Liberty during our vacation in Boston and we were very pleased. The moment we arrived we were greeted by Steve the bellhop, he welcomed us with a huge smile and the absolute best service. He went above and beyond to ensure we felt happy and comfortable and even took the time to advise us on what to do around town on multiple occasions. The concierge Rene was terrific as well. Extremely friendly, helpful and professional. I hope the Liberty Hotel realizes what a great asset they are to their team! The hotel itself is beautifully impressive. Multiple restaurants and bars within the hotel. The food was great and their bartender Nick made delicious cocktails. The place was buzzing every day of the week, they do a great job creating a fun and lively atmosphere. The room itself was nice, spacious and clean. It's also within walking distance of several attractions and museums. All in all I give the hotel 5 stars and we hope to return sometime! More...

The people paying $500+ a night and then complaining it's overpriced are mind boggling. This place can most always be booked for around $300. It's not a posh quiet ritz carlton so do your research before staying on the weekend... they have music in the lobby and open the bar up. My advice, take a chance on this place. Have a drink in the lobby. Only thing I would advise against would be brunch at the hotel. Found it only ok especially with so many options on Charles street. More...

Everyone was super hospitable but Zack at the front desk took extra time to recommend some places to see and answer any questions about our stay. Marco and Tracy at the clink were on their game as well. Great service across the board. Definitely a place to come back to in the future. More...

Most definitely a “luxury hotel.” I felt like royalty while the hotel still maintained the authenticity of the jail that it used to be. The architecture is beautiful and the history is super cool. Our room was beautiful and sparkling clean! I would certainly rebook this hotel the next time I visit Boston. More...

We also walked around the property taking in historic information and enjoying some of the tongue-in-cheek photo opportunities. A friend informed me today that those undergoing chemotherapy treatments at MGH are offered a stay at this hotel. What a wonderful way to give back. More...

Wonderful hotel with a great view of the 4th of July fireworks from our room (staff helped us pick a room wen we make a reservation). Everyone was wonderful and focused on customer service from the moment we arrived. Rooms are regularly sized and not super large but comfortable and well stocked. super clean!! It is a little pricey but based on location and the cost of living in Boston it was worth it. Dinner at Clink was great. Drinks at the bar in the afternoon was super as the bartender was kind, cordial and focused on the customer having a great experience. It helped that she enjoyed her craft and made very nice drinks. What a fantastic place to stay in Boston. It's central to getting around with the Cambridge subway right across the street.  The staff is amazing and I was super happy after a redeye getting into my room at 10:30a.  Wonderful snooze and love the bathroom has both tub and shower.  The view from my room 705 was awesome and evening sleep was super quiet in a very comfy bed!  What more can you ask for? Completely unexpected. Beautiful building that uses its former use as a jail to create a cozy and  elegant ambience. The lobby turns into a club on the weekends and the catwalk around the lobby make it an adventurous stay. The decor is what I imagine a high-end luxurious jail might have. My mother asked me to write this review of her stay. She wanted to express her sincere appreciation of EJ Brown the Front Desk Manager. My grandfather abruptly became ill and passed away so family came from all over to be with him and for an unexpected funeral. My mom called at 230 am to get rooms. He worked with her each day as we needed to add rooms for changes in circumstances and scheduling. He got us right in to rooms in a difficult time and make finding a place to stay one less piece of stress during a difficult time. More...

Such a great hotel. Aced it in every category. Room was clean and housekeeping kept it that way. Room was fully stocked with bar and other beverages. 2 restaurants/restaurants within the hotel and both offered great food and service. All staff were accommodating and very friendly. They offered free coffee behind the lobby every morning although I do wish they had a coffee pot in the room. Honestly, the coffee was not that good but it did the job and not enough reason to deduct. While I was visiting, there was a live band in the lobby every evening which was great. I would encourage every visitor to grab a cocktail, wine, beer or ice water and walk around the hotel to take in the history. They have a display behind the lobby as well as a tv channel dedicated to the history in the room. If not staying there, I am sure the staff would at least get you started on learning about the history, construction and remaining original cell bars and railings. I hope to return soon. More...

Beautiful hotel, remodeled original Boston jail, but in the best way possible. They do a classy but fun job with the interior and theme, including little things like the "do not disturb" sign saying "solitary" and including a big iron key. The safe looks like an actual old school safe. The bathroom was huge and beautiful with a large soaking tub and separate shower. Beds are decently comfy and rooms feel cozy. The main lobby cocktail bar is relaxing and gorgeous, the drinks (though quite pricey) are unique and delicious. Service was friendly and prompt all around.Cons: pillows in room were hard and flat feather with no body, very uncomfortable on my neck and made it hard to sleep. The sound proofing to the hall was also terrible. We were woken up at 7 am to doors opening and closing which continued until 11 am and we were not able to sleep in because of this. Overall the hotel is beautiful and friendly, but the actual sleeping part was a bit disappointing. More...

I love this hotel!  With the volume of hotels I stayed at this year it was nice to try a new brand out and have such excellent service. Upon check in I told the front desk that a broom closet would suite my needs since all I needed was a quick change into something fresh and then off to work. She informed me they did not have any rooms ready but I could use the bathroom to get ready and then once I got back later in the afternoon my room would be ready. Sure enough the room was ready that afternoon and it was well appointed and lovely. I love the boutique feel. The lobby is large and used to be a prison apparently. If you spent anytime with my on this trip you instantly got over hearing about this hotel. I just couldn't stop saying, "look its the Liberty Hotel did you guys know that it used to be a prison? Also it's pretty awesome." More...
