The host had absolutely no idea what he was doing. I asked how long the wait for our group would be and he said he didn't know. That was the most negative part of our experience - and not a great first impression. That being said, the food was delicious. Highly recommend anything on the specials list and any of the pizzas. The caprese salad was good, the garlic knots were super flavorful and the wine was great for the cheap price. Seating is very limited and would not recommend for larger groups. More...

La Pizzeria is THE BEST!  Husband and I get a Sicilian pepperoni and mushroom pizza almost every Friday night.  Eddie knows my order before I even ask and is always a delight to see every weekend.  Husband and I are not alone in the La Pizzeria to go order phenomenon.  There are tons of regulars in there picking up their orders every time I'm there. The pizza is just that good.  We've tried a few specialty pies and desserts over the years, but the Sicilian and the service are what keep us coming back again and again.  I still have yet to actually eat a sit down meal in La Pizzeria (it's on my to do list), but the pizza is #1 in Charleston for sure. Excellent pasta and pizza. Unfortunately I can't give them 5 stars because of their use of plastic bottles for both water and soda.  It was explained they don't have the appropriate filter to serve tap water and they don't have room for a fountain drink machine.  This makes zero sense to me. No refills and an abundant overuse of plastic.  Not cool.  Food is great though. More...

The name is a little misleading...so much more than pizza...authentic Italian food! La Pizzeria brings a taste of Italy to Mount Pleasant. So nice to have a homemade meal rather than a mass produced plate of food. We always enjoy the laidback, casual, unpretentious  atmosphere! So nice not to feel like a "turn and burn" table. The cappuccino and desserts are delicious, too! More...

Tucked in the corner of a little strip mall in Mt Pleasant was one of the highlights of our trip to Charleston.  Filled with questions about if we might want to move here and what are the people like, we stepped into this little place and were transported back home. We were treated like family, and man can this family cook. Fresh ingredients, pizza crust like it was meant to be made, and I'm willing to bet the pasta is as good as well. Truly an outstanding experience, we felt at complete ease and by the time it was over felt like we were part of their family.  All after one stop.  If you want some quality, Italian food that would make mama proud, you owe yourself a visit. Assolutamente Delizioso! More...

My husband and I discovered the most extraordinary Italian pizzeria tucked away in a corner of Northcutt Plaza in Mount Pleasant off Coleman Blvd. We had been looking for a nice restaurant in which to have a wonderful celebratory birthday meal, but due to enjoying sights around Charleston we found our intended restaurant closed. We looked down the strip and saw La Pizzeria, and it was love at first bite. We met the owner who went out of her way to make sure we were well-cared for. She and her staff were professional et very personable. We were made to feel as though we were simply joining a family meal around the table in Italy-even though our order was takeout. Through our conversations we discovered that all the ingredients they use in food preparation are imported directly from Italy and traditionally made. Although the name is La Pizzeria and the two varieties of pizza we received were the absolute best we have ever eaten. The lasagna was to die for. We give this restaurant our highest possible recommend, and we will make it a point to dine here each time we visit Charleston. Thank you La Pizzeria for everything. More...

From the staff to the food, this is a hidden gem in Mt Pleasant.  Eddie and Kristina were phenomenal.  On a very crowded night, my first time there, Eddie remembered my name as we left, not sure anyone has made that kind of impression on me at a restaurant, just ask my wife.  Service (Kristina) was excellent on a very busy night.   The pizza I had might be the best I have had in Mt Pleasant.  Don't miss an opportunity to visit this hidden gem in Mt Pleasant.  Make sure you get there early. We were staying at a nearby hotel.  Checked in late and were looking for a place to grab a decent (not fast food) meal.  Saw the reviews and decided to check it out even though the place was scheduled to close in about an hour.  We walked to the restaurant anticipating having a few beers with our much anticipated pizza. The place was hopping and the atmosphere was lively.  We were greeted by friendly staff.  Our concerns about showing up late were quickly erased.  Long story short our server convinced us to switch our meal selection from pizza to the veal and from beer to their imported Super Tuscan wine.  Half way into our 2nd bottle we had finished our main dish and ordered the tiramisu.  The absolutely best tiramisu I've ever had...period!This place is a gem.  We had planned to eat there again the next evening and were disappointed when we found out they are closed on Sundays.  If we lived nearby we'd be regulars for sure.  If you are visiting Mt Pleasant/Charleston, you owe it to yourself to take advantage of this place.  If you live nearby then you should count your blessing. Well dang I had really been snoozing on this one! I've lived near La Pizzeria for about 5 years and only just now finally made it over. Saturday night we knew we wanted pizza but weren't quite sure exactly where to order from, so we decided to give La Pizzeria a takeout try. Called in an order for garlic knots, an 18" brooklyn bridge (double pepperoni) pizza and tiramisu. They gave me a pickup time of 30/45 minutes - as soon as I pulled up, I knew we'd made the right choice; there was a line out the door! Fortunately, most of my fellow queuers were also there picking up, so it moved quickly. The staff was so friendly, checking in with the line with each new arrival to ensure they were quickly seating anyone who was dining in. I was able to get my pizza in less than 10 minutes of waiting, while the gentleman manning the desk deftly fielded more phone orders and kept the line moving.Back home with the grub, we were quick to dig in. The garlic knots were a decent appetizer - not quite garlicky enough for my liking, but I think that might be a me problem, as I am flavor obsessed ;) The marinara the knots were served with was cold, which the microwave quickly fixed - but I am not sure what the intention was there. The pizza was delicious thin crust goodness, cheesy without being overly greasy and fantastic portion size for the price. The tiramisu had a slight lemon flavor, which I am not sure was intentional or a result of being close by other desserts in the refrigerated case - it was a bit cakey for my taste and would've benefited from a bit more coffee liqueur; but we had no trouble finishing every last bite. Already plotting a return trip to ensure we try the Sicilian thick crust pizza option, some of these epic sounding pasta bowls, as well as a dine-in experience. Che bella! More...

The best pizza in all of Charleston! Yes, I have said it. We have been trying to get into La Pizzeria for several weekends, but when we arrive there is always a line at the door. So finally we scored one Friday night by arriving at 5:30. While waiting for just a few minutes for a table, the first thing I noticed was how friendly the host was. Plus he knew so many of his customers by their name it was impressive. When we were seated we were also greeted by Tim and given just as good service all night. We came for pizza, they delivered. We go traditional and just order a mushroom & pepperoni. The pizza was served hot out of the oven, with the food runner serving the first slice. The crust was thin, crispy and held up well with the toppings. I love tasting both the mushrooms and pepperoni, a lot of times the mushrooms just get lost. But not this time. La Pizzeria has set a new high standard for both pizza and service. We enjoyed other items like 2 different Italian beers, their small side salads, and desserts that were so delicious. Come here for pizza, but come early. We will be back again as the pasta menu looked so good and worthy of checking out. Thanks for the great service all night! More...

Italian comfort food served in this busy Mt P. restaurant.  This small business is run like a fine tuned machine.  The host greeted guests by name.  The service staff is friendly and makes great recommendations, backed up by a food runner and busser that never missed a detail during a weekend dinner service.  Very impressive.  And then there's the pizza.  We chose thin crust Napoletana, served hot and stayed hot.  This is my new standard for this type of pizza.  I suspect it will be hard to beat.  Perfect crust, sauce, and toppings.  We started with fresh salads topped with delicious dressings.  We enjoyed two types of Italian beers and finished with the dreamiest homemade Tiramisu.  We noticed lots of delicious looking entrees being served and look forward to trying other items on the menu. First off, impeccable service. Everyone was so attentive and kind. Not only did our server help us with the table, but the owner as well. She was checking up on us to make sure everything was perfect. And it was!The food portions were not that large, but the taste made up for it. I have been here a few dozen times and have even brought my family here when visiting from out of town. This place is authentic as it gets. They use ingredients imported from Italy like their flour, spin the doe in front of you, have a case of beautiful desserts, and is run by a family actually from Italy. Be warned as the place is smaller and will often have a wait, a line out the door for takeout (worth it, moves fast), and I've gone before and they were closed for a week with a sign (visiting family in Italy). Really worth the experience. More...

Strange note: My family and I stayed at Folly Beach about two weeks ago. My husband mentioned this place; I told him I could determine the name since I had reviewed it in March of 2015. We ended up at an eatery that did not seem familiar at all. I was totally perplexed. After some recent detecting, I realized that I had reviewed the wrong place years ago. How embarrassing! Straight-up note: Skip Fratello's and go to La Pizzeria instead.Posted March 8, 2015: Discovered via online reviews. Hidden in outside strip mall. A few small tables outside point the way. We had to wait for an inside table. They were quick and polite. The place is much bigger than you think. We got a table in the way back, and I loved it. They sell local art on the walls. Food was heavenly. We always have to get pizza because we have picky kids, but, ironically enough, I am not picky and I will eat whatever. Desserts will leave you swooning. Dark ambiance that I crave. Clean tables with quirky plates. Waitress was very sweet. Make sure you check hours before going- they were closed on a certain weekday (Tuesday, I believe). Affordability mingling with decadence- that's how I like it. More...

The service is great (Eddie is the greatest guy). Family friendly but also perfect for date night. The pasta is made in house and can't be beat- the chicken ravioli with smoked mozzarella, the gnocchi, veal saltimbocca- all fantastic. Nothing is "heavy"- they don't smother the food with cheeses and sauces to make the flavors shine. Their pizza crust is light and crispy/ chewy with some of the best sauce we've had. Their specials are the way to go, though.  Eddie knows the menu really well and gives great recommendations. We have never been disappointed in a meal here. We truly love La Pizzeria. More...

One of my best friends rants and raves about this being some of the best pizza around here.  Well we had a pizza craving and I didn't want to go with a chain.  So...called in an order for pick up and luckily we could decide on 1 pizza easily.Eddie answered the phone and I was put on hold...no surprise there, it's a pizza joint.  He was back promptly and ready to take my order.  He could not have been more polite...and then he was there when I picked up the pie and his stellar customer service continued to shine...so kudos to him.Yes the pizza is good.  It was actually really good.  I prefer a thick, pan pizza type crust but knew this wouldn't be...not a problem.   The crust was thin but not to crispy/crunchy and we really enjoyed it.  The toppings were appropriate with not too many or too little and everything was delicious. My only complaint is the price...we got 1 of their large regular menu pizzas with extra cheese and it came out to almost $30 for a carry-out.  I mean the pizza was really good but not sure if I could justify the price tag. That aside I would definitely return as I hear the pasta and desserts are great as well. La Pizzeria is a wonderful choice even if you're not an Italian food addict.  Admittedly I was never crazy about Italian food like some people are but I'm crazy about La Pizzeria.  It's a small space but I love it because it's very intimate.  I've had the pizza multiple times and I'm convinced their oven runs on some sort of magic because the pizza's are always wonderful and even if you're full, you'll be grabbing another slice.  One visit I opted for the lasagna and it came in the most adorable little dish and it was piping hot.  There was more than enough cheese and the pasta was wonderful.  The owner is also one of the sweetest people around.  She loves explaining where she gets her ingredients and how everything is made.  She's also more than happy to offer wine recommendations.  Be careful going here because you might just want to eat here every day for the rest of your life. My husband and I absolutely love this place.  The service is wonderful in fact, one of the waitresses that never even waited on us makes it a point to come and talk with us when she sees us because she's friendly and very nice.  The food is amazing spaghetti and meatballs, chicken parm, lobster ravioli, caprese salad, pizza I can go on and on.   We have been to Italy and this place resembles Italian hospitality.  If you like Olive Garden this is not a place for you.  We chose quality over quantity and friendly, family atmosphere over chain restaurants. We were staying over in Mount Plesant and ate dinner in this fabulous little restaurant! My husband and I had the chicken parm with side of penne and it was delicious! My 2 nieces had spaghetti and meatballs and pasta with alfredo sauce and they said it was awesome! We shared a dessert of triple chocolate mousse cake and again we were not dissapointed! The service was incredible! We were traveling from Florida and we were hot and tired and they really took care of us! We hd 6 different people to the table to see if we needed anything during the course of our meal! We will be sure to make this a stop again when we are in the area. More...

My favorite place to go! My grandmother is from Milan, Italy and this is the ONLY place that she finds  offers authentic and delicious Italian food... Believe me, she is a tough critic. They fly in their desserts from Italy and the atmosphere is charming and warm. The owner and his wife run the restaurant together and every time I have been they are walking around frequently checking on how things are and to make you feel at home. A great place for a romantic dinner! More...

We were visiting from Georgia and found this place by accident. It was by far one of the best Italian restaurants I have ever been to. The service and the food were superb. Food, value and service was good overall. They have a very homey and cozy ambiance. Right when you walk in you are greeted by the dessert menu. Guess who saved room for dessert? Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about menu and made suggestions. They do serve you bread and oil.Calimari was very crispy and flavorful. The thin crust was great, comparable to what I'm used to getting in Brooklyn. They even had a cheeseless spicy pizza (picante) which was actually spicy. No extra pepper flakes or hot oil needed (yes, they have not oil per request)Our group devoured their food and couldn't complain. Veal was not bad. Portion sizes are either just right or on the smaller end, depending on the person. Chocolate mouse was very rich and delicious. One thing that surprised me was that the charge for every bottle of water you get. I drink tons of water and we started with only one standard bottle to share among our table of 5. More...

I'm from NJ. My mother was born in Brooklyn. I grew up where pizza is as common as water. Then I moved to Los Angeles. Where they do, in fact, blame bad pizza on the water. And for 18 years, I had almost nothing even resembling pizza. So after driving across the country in 2 cars with 4 dogs and 2 birds and leftover bagels from LA, we all fell out of the car. in Mt. Pleasant. Which is, in fact, quite pleasant. Almost instantly, my dog ate a sego palm seed -- which FYI is poisonous -- and spent the night in the emergency hospital. So by the time day 3 rolled around, pizza sounded pretty damn good. Someone recommended La Pizzeria and honestly by that point I would have eaten wood but this was around the corner... And it was really really good. VERY good.We got the white pizza with some vegetables my friend insisted on, and I ate it so fast the whole thing is a blur. It was a little pricey compared to New Jersey pizza but it was excellent and huge. And now I won't even try another pizza place here. So there you have it. More...

After living in Charleston for 3 years and now having moved away, I have found a pizza place worth the calories and almost worth the money. The curb appeal of this place has you doubting your dinner plans, but once you step inside all doubt disappears and an Italian bistro vibe. The host was very nice and accommodating and went out of his way to share some tips for wine selections (very knowledgeable on the wine selection) and the waitress was equally kind and helpful. The pizza was amazing, but the 4 star rating instead of 5 was because of the bill. I got a 10" cheese pizza and a beer and my bill was $25. Maybe this is one of the reasons I moved out of Charleston (the tourist level cost of living) but that's crazy for a 4 slice pizza and a Peroini. If I'm back in town visiting friends, I'll consider a lunch special or happy hour. More...

Nothing beats great customer service.  Here is where you'll find it. My assumption was this was just a pizzeria. It's much more than that.  Great Italian meals on their menu.  Looking forward to trying these on our next visit.  We ordered a simple Marguerite pizza with fresh mozzarella cheese and fresh basil.  We added pepperoni.  It was very good.  Along with a very good antipasto  that was suggested to us.  Great wine selections to. I have been going to La Pizzeria for almost 10 years. It is such a neighborhood gem, and its still as incredible as ever. The staff treat you like family, they especially are great with kids, which is rare in most restaurants in charleston. The spinach salad with the marinated purple egg is my fav. The gnocchi fritti is a MUST when it shows up on the specials, as is the buccatini. PIZZA is so delish, request shrimp pizza if they have fresh shrimp!!! Best thing to happen to Mt.P. I know they are always busy, but this is the only place that is worth the wait. And if you cant wait, get something to go. You dont want to miss this place. Ask for Eddie, he has the best customer service skills in the southeast! Worst case scenerio, put your name on their wait list, go across the street to Cinnebarre for a movie and come back for dinner. Or go take a sunset walk on shem creek, then head over. This is trully where locals keep returning for great service and ambiance and yummy food. May look crowded, but even crowded, still very romantic - great date night. More...

Great thin crust pizza in Mt Pleasant! We ordered a meatball pizza for take out on a rainy Sunday evening in January. The person answering the phone was very polite, and it was ready on time. Upon picking it up, the place was hopping! Several people clustered around the entry picking up orders, plus busy inside. Sort of frustrating trying to pick up your order with only one register and others behind you trying to pay for theirs passing their payments over your head. No matter, the person manning the register was unflappable, smoothly informing us that the flour for the pizza was imported from Naples, Italy and the meatballs were homemade and what kind of other fresh ingredients  were on the pizza. We could see the flames from the pizza oven, and couldn't wait to give it a try. The pizza was delicious, the crust a perfect New York sort of thin. Foldable, the meatballs in small chunks so they did not fall off. Crust edges just right. Priced reasonably at $18 and some change for a 16". Will be our go to place for takeout pizza when in the area. More...

I only had a pie, and based strictly on that, I was going to give this place a 3, but coupled with the experience and the atmosphere, La Pizzeria is a solid 4. TIP: If you are ordering takeout, CALL ahead of time, otherwise you will be in for an extensive wait.I went to La Pizzeria on a Thursday night and it was very busy. I get there and place my order at 7:51 pm, and take a seat to wait for my pie. Upon waiting I noticed a few things:--The staff is incredibly personable and friendly. I am not exaggerating when I say that nearly everyone, outside of maybe 2 or 3 people, that came through the door was greeted by their first name. The guy behind the counter knew everyone and their kids! That's pretty cool. When he would let me know that my pie was almost ready, he always addressed me by my name...I dont know: that's some pretty impressive stuff. You see people come and go regularly all day, and remember all of these names? Pretty impressive. --The gentleman who I presume was the owner was at tables, not just talking to patrons, but also working: taking orders, cleaning tables etc...Dope.--I like that you can get some authentic cuisine without all the unnecessary frills that come with being East of the Cooper. I like ambiance as much as the next person, but I'm not looking to put such a huge dent in my pockets EVERY TIME I want some authentic cuisine. Places like this are few and far between and are massively appreciated by this chic. While doing all of this noticing and observing, 53 minutes passed. It is now 8:43. I waited nearly an hour for a medium cheese pie. Yikes. That was a lengthy wait, and the fella at the counter knew it. So he is heading towards the door with two boxes, and opens it. I only ordered one pie, so I didnt think it was mine. He calls my name and says they were mine. Huh? When we get completely outside, he sincerely apologizes for the wait, and gave me two extra slices for my wait--VERY very thoughtful. The customer experience here is superior to many. The atmosphere is intimate, friendly and familiar. The pizza reminds me of authentic NY style pizza which Charleston is not so good at. Its pretty greasy, and its pretty flavorful.Looking forward to returning to try their pasta dishes, and the dessert case looked crazy good. La Pizzeria is officially added to to my cheat meal list. Our favorite little Italian joint. Fresh made pastas are amazing and are the star of the show here. It's a casual cafe that feels just right (not fancy, not frumpy). The calamari, very lightly breaded, and the bruschetti di gamberetti (local shrimp!) are a great place to start. Folks love the pizzas, but it's impossible to resist the spot on alfredo or the ravioli offerings that usually show up on the nightly specials list. You'll find that the wait staff shares duties at each other's tables, which adds up to attentive service. The owner is always on site, bustling about sharing "grazis." This all meshes to create a friendly, unstuffy neighborhood restaurant that attracts lots of loyal locals.Days after you eat here you will think about that perfect al dente ravioli in creamy pesto sauce and you'll be making plans for your next visit. My husband and I really enjoyed this intimate, Italian restaurant. The egg plant appetizer was filled with cheese yet was light. The tomato sauce was not overpowering neither was the ricotta. Following Yelpers recommendations we ordered and margarita pizza and enjoyed that. Also ordered a pasta from the specials menu with Italian sausage. Done in a Chardonnay sauce with a touch of cream and the amazing homemade pasta. The sausage was nothing special, tasted like something from a top a pizza and there was not quite as much sauce as we expected but we enjoyed it. Portion size was not huge. 3 egg plant rollers, 10" pizza and the pasta dish had us full but not over stuffed. Fresh bread and olive oil hit the spot when we sat down. The food looked great on Yelp so I decided to come here for a bite my first night in town. I was blown away by the volume coming from one table in particular, good thing it was just me dining because clearly it's their world and I just live in it. If I was on a date I wouldn't be happy or able to hear anything they said. The wine list was decent and had a good selection of reds, I was torn between two and the waiter brought me a generous taster to help with that decision. I chose a chianti and ordered a side Ceasar Salad and the Pomodoro pizza (so I could have lunch leftovers). The Ceasar salad was wonderful. Made from scratch, delicious and garlicky. Just how I like my Caesars. The pizza was incredible. Not too salty not too cheesy it was juuust right Goldilocks style! I also need to mention the service, top notch!! And I saw that they are looking for servers and bussers so although they are understaffed and they had two parties of 10 you wouldn't have noticed.  Overall great food and had I been feeling better I'm sure I would have embraced the atmosphere more wholeheartedly. For years, I lived a good distance away from La Pizzeria and it was always thought of as a special treat. It's my favorite pizza around so every time I went, I felt like an addict getting his fix because who knew the next time I'd have another opportunity. Yes, I've tried some salads and desserts, but never ventured into the pasta dishes. It was always about getting my slice of the pie.Fast forward to six months ago where I moved around the corner from this place (I actually walk there when I go to dinner or pick up a pizza) and have a more stable/healthy relationship with La Pizzeria... well maybe not healthy, you know what I mean. I've started branching out and trying new things which is great. The only problem is, the pastas are all amazing too! If only they were terrible, I could just stick to my guns and order pizza all the time, but now, every visit is a visceral battle inside of me to decide between the two.Honestly, you can't go wrong either way... I've never had a bad dish from this place and they have quite a few to choose from. There's always a specials menu worth checking out and some of the pastas are house made. I've met the owner a couple times now and surprise, she used to have a restaurant in the North End of Boston... no wonder this place tastes like home. My new go-to pasta is the Chicken Parmesan... it's simple, but delicious. Make sure to start with a caprese salad, and don't forget to grab a cannoli or a cake before you go. More...

If you like thin crust pizza cooked in a stone oven and sliced to the size of your head, you will love this pizza! I stopped in today at 9:30, on a Sunday... I had just arrived into town after a delayed flight, I was starving - my normal go-to take out favorite was closed so I decided to give La Pizzeria a try and I am so glad I did! For less than $10 I had more food than I could possibly eat -- and the staff was so nice - they even threw in an extra slice on the house because they really wanted me to try their white pizza with bacon and I was hesitant -- it was VERY good, plenty of cheese without being greasy and the crust was perfect.  I was impressed that the pizza chefs were so passionate about their pizza and eager to share it with the community. Best pizza and service I've ever received in my entire life. Pizza ordered: Cinque Formaggi Server: EdwardI recommend eating in to get the full experience. The owner was a really nice Italian lady who believes in nothing but generic quality ingredients. Edward, the server was very helpful and descriptive on the menu options. The pizza here is thin crust authentic Italian, and very light. We came in sort of late and they treated us with the same level of excitement and professionalism that they would the first customer of the day. Just really great pizza and service, nothing more to say. Will definitely be back. More...

Now Im not Italian but I will say this is authenic italian cuisine.  We had lasagna, spaghetti alfredo with shrimp and pizza.  All 3 were great.  The pizza is thin NY style and very good.  I recomend ordering it extra crisp or well done.  Small corner resteraunt in a strip center but well worth it. About as traditional an Italian restaraunt as you will find in SC. Right down to the only water option being bottled at a hefty price. That being said the pizza here is our favorite in Charleston, and we are very picky about crust, it must be thin and crispy on the outside but is substantial enough to hold up the toppings. The pasta dishes are cooked al dente and expect to hear banter in thick accented italian as you eat. I will be back without a doubt. More...

Pasta Sunday always occasions pasta at home or out somewhere and that somewhere happened to be La Pizzeria. It was quite busy that Sunday evening and we had to wait outside for 15 or 20 minutes but once seated service was very good. We started with a Caprese Salad, tomato, basil and Buffalo Mozzarella with a drizzle of EVOO, no complaints it was the perfect starter. My son ordered Chicken Parmesan with spaghetti and I selected the Linguine Alla Vongole Bianco. We were more than satisfied with our respective entrees, but we both had to admit that back home the Italian restaurants have a certain "je ne sais quoi" that kicks it over the top and into the end zone. Would we go back if we found our selves in the area once again most certainly as La Pizzeria does a very very good job. More...

It's 9AM and thinking about this place has me craving pizza. La Pizzeria is nothing short of fantastic. My wife and I decided to come here a few nights ago for dinner and were blown away. This place is tucked away on Houston Northcutt next to Bacco. The setting is intimate and quite honestly, could not be more perfect. We had Caesar Salad to start and ordered 10" pizzas for the both of us. My wife had the Margherita and I had the Aloha (Hawaiian). Everything was great and the service was exceptional. I do, however, have one small gripe. When we were seated, we were served Dasani bottled water without being asked. I thought it was a bit strange...Dasani bottled water? San Pellegrino is one thing...but Dasani? Anyhow, I asked the server if there was a charge for it and he informed me that it was "only a dollar." I told him that was fine but that we would stick with tap water going forward. His response...? "We don't have tap water." Kid, you're in the middle of Mount Pleasant, you have running tap water. Anyhow, be ready to pay for ANYTHING that you drink. The bottled water was a dollar but c'mon man, really? Free bread but I have to pay for my water...? Just a bit of an annoyance...Again, great spot and we'll definitely be back. Just be ready to pay for your water. : ) More...

I love this place. The food is an 8/10 but the staff is really what takes it over the top for me! They somehow many to make you feel like you're the only one in the restaurant even when it's packed. It feels like everyone of the employees is a team player to make sure ever diner has an excellent experience. One weird thing: you have to pay for water...not offered on tap. More...

I stumbled on this place last year when I was hungry after a long drive to the beach.I was warmly greeted by the staff upon entering. I ordered to go a perfect thin crust, freshly made margherita pizza, beet salad and a yummy slice of cheesecake. While I waited I enjoy a quality glass of Pinot noir. This place is my go-to spot at last 1x during every visit I take when on the island...which is often. EVO is the best Neapolitan style pizza that I have had in Charleston but La Pizzeria is the closest pie I have had to NY style pizza yet and it is excellent.  We had the profiteroles for dessert and they were excellent as well.  The owner told me she has them flown in from Italy.  Small establishment and family run. I can't tell you how pleased I was with my meal both times! The restaurant itself is pretty small, however, so the wait can be substantial if you hit it at the wrong time. You have probably driven past La Pizzeria in Mount Pleasant many times without knowing it's some of the best Italian food in town. La Pizzeria is tucked away in some shops off of Coleman Blvd and Houston Northcutt Blvd. But it could just as easily be in the North End of Boston. What it lacks in space it makes up for with some great food. Start off with the Antipasto della Casa or the Bruschetta di Salsiccia. Caprese salad is enough for two. Then you've got some serious decisions to make. Pasta? Sandwich? Pizza? And pace yourself to leave room for dessert. Spaghetti with marinara sauce is simple and delicious. The chicken or veal parmigiana are good if you're looking for something more carnivorous. The lasagna bolognese is my go to dish unless there's a special too good to pass up. The pizza at La Pizzeria is hands down the best pie in Charleston. It's as if they fly in the dough from the Northeast or something. The Margherita and Aloha pizzas are our favourites. There are some kid friendly options with pasta or pizza too. Service is always good whether you're the first ones there or the place is jam packed. Worth noting that they do a good take away as well. Just make a call when you're in the area. A whole pizza or some different slices are way better than the chain pizza shops.Reviewer's Note: Raising a young family in Charleston after years of living and traveling abroad. After wandering around downtown Charleston all day, my husband and I were hankering for a nice warm slice (or 2, or 3) of pizza. We were having trouble finding a place that looked good downtown, so we decided to head back to where our Hotel was over in Mt Pleasant to see if there might be something good in that neighborhood. We found La Pizzeria thanks to Google and Yelp and decided to give it a try! This place is in a very unassuming shopping plaza, tucked near the corner, so it was a little difficult to find especially because the sign seemed to be a bit more dim than any of the other businesses in the strip. Just a warning for any other confused tourists :)Inside the restaurant are tables right by where they prepare the food, and then a much larger dining area as you go towards the back. The larger dining area was PACKED, so we sat towards the front where we could watch the employees prepare the food. No complaints. We read on a chalk board posted above the tables that most of the restaurant's ingredients are homemade and/or shipped directly from Italy. Cool! We received some tasty bread to dip in oil as we waited for our food. Carbalicious. We ordered a medium (16 inch) pizza since my husband is a freak of nature who can put away unlimited amounts of pizza and still maintain a slim figure. I was happy with one and a half slices (they're big slices!) and his verocious appetite was happy with the other 4 and a half. If you have more of a normal appetite, a 12 inch would probably do you just fine. I forgot the name of our pizza but it had fresh sausage, peppers and onions and it was very good. I was too stuffed to eat any more but wanted to try one of the desserts since they receive such great reviews here on Yelp, so we ordered a piece of cake to-go. We wound up splitting it at our Hotel room a few hours later and it was very good! A little expensive at $5, but delicious. My only complaints about La Pizzeria would be that they don't seem to have a soda fountain set up, so your drinks come in a plastic bottle and there are definitely no free refills. Kind of a bummer for me as I always get water and don't usually have to pay for it. Also, the price is pretty steep as far as pizza goes, but I do understand that the freshness of the ingredients are probably the reason behind this so I can't dock points.Overall, if we are ever back in the area and craving some Pizza Pie, we would probably happily come back to La Pizzeria! La pizzeria is a delightful find in the Mt. Pleasant area.  We enjoyed the house salad as well as pasta with bolognese sauce.  The real winner, however, was the pizza.  Having tasted pizza from New Haven, New York, Chicago, San Francisco and LA, I have to say this place delivered solidly.  The crust was semi-thin (thicker than NYC), chewy but with a nice flavor.  The sauce was subtle with a balanced tomato flavor.  The cheese had a nice texture and flavor - not your typical mozzarella but very good regardless.   My only gripe is that the space is limited and might be hard to accommodate larger parties. Ordered an 18" pizza to-go last night with shrimp, spinach, onion, garlic, broccoli, and black olives ($36 w/ tip). Since we didn't eat in the restaurant, this is more like half of a review. The staff was clear and friendly on the phone, making it quick and simple to place our order. We were quoted 25 minutes and sure enough, the pizza was ready when we got there. There was only one guest in line paying at the register ahead of me. I wasn't acknowledged until I got to the front, which wasn't a big deal, but something they could do better is smile or welcome others. It's the little things. :)The pizza...was delicious! My roommate's family is Italian and makes pizza from time to time, plus he baked pizzas at a few restaurants for years, so when he tells me to rate a pizza 5 stars, I'm impressed. Really, pizzas should be compared as cheese only and we had a lot of toppings, but I'm not being that critical. Everything tasted fresh and had amazing flavor and I was definitely digging the thin crust, which was cooked well. Would happily order from here again. Oh, last thought. I wish they had a veggie pizza, as one of us was vegetarian (err, pescatarian) and we created our own combination which is on the expensive side. Yes, they have really simple ones with no meat, but you can't make substitutions and they're lacking in toppings. More...

Finding your perfect pizza joint is serious business. When I first moved to Mt. Pleasant, I knew I had to find mine. La Pizzeria is a gem. Tucked into the corner of a small plaza on Houston Northcutt, the tiny, dimly-lit restaurant is great for dine in or takeout, but I prefer taking my pizza to go as it gets a bit crowded. You can order whole pizzas or grab a slice of one of the already made pies on display. They've always got at least 5 types to choose from. While I've liked all the ones I've tried, the Margherita and Bianco pizzas are my favorite. The cheese is just,...oh it's good. This is one of, if not the best, restaurant in all of SC.  Tucked away in a low key, small strip mall, this place may not be luxurious and in fact the first time I walked in, I walked right back out. To frequent this restaurant however, is to love it. The staff, service, food selections, quality and value are second to none in the area. They have plenty of reasonably priced, great selections on the menu, so you won't have to strain your budget or brain making a selection or be disappointed with what you ordered. Nor will you be waiting a lifetime for your food, even when the place is packed. Frequented by the locals and operated by a husband and wife duo from Italy that knows how to cook they make their food fresh using the ingredients imported from Italy. You can eat at a fancier or higher priced Italian restaurant downtown or in the surrounding area, but you won't find more consistently good pizza, salads, pasta dishes and desserts. If you have a passion for a great meal and don't know where to eat in the area, this is the type of place you wish someone would steer you towards. If you find this review helpful click on the: useful, funny or cool rating below or compliment and follow by clicking on the top right. For all of attempts to locate the two foods I miss most from home, one would think I have the places all set, as I have lived in CHS for 5 years. Those 2 food items are pizza and bagels, not together, but as seperate meals. The common denominator? The bread, more specifically, the dough. All bagel locations never stacked up to my taste preferences, but I found  some locations that when a heave duty hankering sets in, I can scramble off to.Good pizza is a bigger need than the bagel in my world. I scoured every inch of CHS soil to find a place that sells by the slice pizza and a pizza that has the characteristics I have been exposed to.As another writer pointed out (i like to read all reviews before posting, as not to be redundant) but Andolini, Your Pie, Mello Mushroom, Etc..(The literal definition of ETC is Every other place in CHS), just didn't interest me.Thankfully, I happened upon La Pizzeria. The thought of swearing off bagels and pizza is a discomforting thought. Its been a bit of time since my last visit to La Pizzeria, but it was just right. Well balanced in quantities of ingredients, thin and crisp, sauce that was sweet, but just the right flavor to keep the mozzarella and crust in balance.(Great crust and that is crucial for a good slice)I really feel that when the pizza is this good, price follows was behind in terms of overall experience. Mom and I were out shopping today and after my score at a fabulous local consignment shop around the corner from the new cookie place that will make me gain 5lbs over this holiday, I needed some lunch. Eggs at 9am + shopping + family time mean....pizza sounds perfect! When I saw that La Pizzeria has a "You've been Yelped!" sticker, I knew it was a sign. And I was right!Yummy. It was an odd hour (3:30ish) so they weren't busy at all. I was immediately greeted and asked if I wanted dine in or take out, did I need a menu, how could they help me...Not sure if it was the manager or owner who greeted me first but everyone was nice. They have ready-to-be-heated pizza by the slice in a variety of toppings (I first thought it was going to be like Fellini's in the sense that you can order a slice of whatever you want, but here it's about 8 kinds that they heat up for you oven-perfect if you're not getting a whole pie). White pizza, mushroom and pepper, pepperoni, sausage and tomato, margherita, just cheese...I asked which was his favorite and instantly heard "Margherita!" That's what I'd been eyeing, so, sold. It was delicious (see pic)- great crust, good mozzarella, good char and a judiciously plentiful amount of basil. This is an Antico-esque (can't say it's exactly as good but it's in the same vein) kind of pizza. The main difference for me is that I got just a slice not a whole pie, so I'm guestimating after the first try and assuming a whole pizza would be even better.I also got the tiramisu to go which will have to fight vs those cookies from YesUMay for tonight's dessert...the whole dessert case looked yummy but when I asked about the tiramisu and the staff was as unhesitantly unanimous about it (it's homemade) as the margherita, well...I love good pizza and am so glad I now know about this Yelp-worthy spot!(Ps...The pasta specials today - a tagliatelle with ragu and a chicken ravioli- were enough to make me know I want to return for more than just pizza!) Best pizza around!  The real deal, not chain style pizza.  Wonderful family that runs the place and fantastic intimate atmosphere.  One of my favorite restaurants in Charleston. More...

They had me at Buona Sera.  Using more Italian than English when addressing the staff, the woman that greeted me was running the show and it seems to be a top notch program.I've only had the Margherita Pizza, but based on the feel of the place and the taste of that pie, I'll be back.  This is the best pizza I've had in the area so far.One note, on takeout, don't arrive late to pick up your pie.  Mine was nearly cold (reheated nicely in the oven).  I didn't see the classic method of keeping the pizzas warm on the top of the ovens. Great pizza, great folks working there. This is real pizza, don't go here looking for chain restaurant-style pseudo food. Probably the best pizza in the area? Carry on.

After a week on Hilton Head and 3 days in Charleston, we were longing for something other than seafood.  During a long drive to explore the local area, we spotted an Italian restaurant just off the highway and some good Italian fare appealed to us at the moment.  Alas, it was closed because it was Monday.  But, as luck would have it, we spotted La Pizzeria tucked in the corner of the small strip mall.It was a little deceiving.  We thought it was just a pizza joint but, oh no, it was much more.  Yes, they had pizza but they also had pastas, risotto, gnocchi, sandwiches, seafood, veal and most of the classic Italian dishes. We decided to have a small pizza, a Caprese Salad and a Seafood Spaghetti w/Marinara Sauce.  It was all very good.  The pizza was a very thin crust and very similar to what we had in Northern Italy.  The Caprese salad was made with ripe tomatoes and an excellent Mozarella Cheese and the olive oil was first rate!  The seafood pasta was also wonderful with al dente pasta and a very nice Marinara that I identified as also a Northern style - not the bright red, spicy "in your face" style of the South. The people are just out of this world.  We sat and talked to the owners for about an hour and it was like dining at a friends place. The olive oil was some of the best I have ever had.  I wiped up every bit of it off the Caprese Salad plate using the excellent, home made Italian bread.I only wished that we had found this place earlier in our travels.  If we come back to this area, we're, definitely, coming back here as this place is a "winner!"As it was, this was a great way to end a wonderful 10+ days in this area.Jim More...

nobody can compete to this quality of pizza pie. My Mother is from Southern Italy and will not eat anywhere else. Simple and delicious and these guys will never need to advertise their food bec if you happen to disagree in quality then you do not know what a good pizza is and should continue eating at your typical garbage commecial pizza joints. By the way the true pizza is the margahrita...get this first and then explore after..if need be..... More...

This place is not much to look at but like they say, you can't eat the decor. It is small, definitely not upscale but has the consistently best pizza and variety of Italian food in the entire area. The staff if very accommodating and willing to get you what you want and how you want it. Owner operated by the nicest couple....this place should definitely be bigger, more upscale and charge more for the great food it has! Many great menu selections and the food is extremely consistent. Mostly known by the locals but this is a great find and worth the trip from anywhere! More...

Went for lunch with a friend on Wednesday.  We shared the Caprese Pizza and the Cheese Ravioli with Pink Sauce and Artichokes. Both were really delicious.  IMO, the ravioli was the clear winner.I loved that the guys were not only friendly, but they got our food out to us quickly and one of them was happy to come over and kill the COCKROACH THAT CRAWLED UP NEXT TO ME WHILE DINING.  Apparently, he didn't know it was a table for TWO, not three.Other than the Roach, we were good to go!Next time, will definitely try their delicious desserts! Eventhough costly. No corners are cut on one of the best tasting pizza slice I have had in my entire 45 years of life. That's coming from an US Air Force Brat who has traveled from Brooklyn, NY to Victorville, CA and back again. AWESOME!!!

Great little spot.  The garlic knots will tell everyone you meet (for the rest of the day) where you ate today.Pizza by the slice or by the pie.  A small little shop with friendly folks.  The Sicilian slices are excellent without being too dough like you find in other places.  Tommy V's review was what got me here on an uncrowded Monday night.  I'm looking forward to trying their Heros.NOTE:  La Pizzeria is under new management and they are doing an excellent job.  Go, eat in and enjoy ! Edit: La Pizzeria is under new management. Their food was pretty inconsistent with the old management, sometimes it was the best pizza I had ever tasted, sometimes it was mediocre and soggy. I have yet to try it under the new guard.I have found my pizzeria in Mt Pleasant. I've tried lots of pizza and I've been searching the Charleston area; before tonight I had found a lot of decent to good pizza places. This is far and away the best pizza I've eaten in a long time. The crust is crispy and just the right thinness. The sauce is light and tasty. The cheese is high quality and the toppings were delicious (deep-fried squares of breaded eggplant were awesome). The menu is great too. The have a big variety of types of pizzas (including a traditional margarita, a Sicilian, and a traditional thin Sicilian) plus nice toppings. Their prices are good and they have a good selection of things other than pizza as well.I like Andolini's, Vincent's, Orlando's, and Brixx, but this pizza is so much better than all of theirs. The inside is small with just a few tables and the pizza counter. They also have a small screened-in area outside. The weather is perfect for it right now.The owner is the real deal too. Eating my pizza and sipping my San Pellegrino Limonata I overheard him speaking to a friend, sometimes with a strong Northern accent and sometimes in Italian.I'm definitely going back! More...
