My friends and I came here for happy hour after work last Friday to enjoy their half-priced sangria and tapas. I personally had the meatballs and the croquettes, both of which were good but neither blew me away. The sangria was delicious although not very strong. Our waiter was slightly difficult to get ahold of and she was a little bit awkward. The atmosphere was a lot of fun, it was a packed house without a single empty table. While I am very fond of La Bodega and have been to both locations many, many times over two many years to count, when I arrived at the Leawood restaurant, on a Friday evening on May 31 and again, on Sunday evening, July 7, I was told by the hostess that I did not have a reservation when I did have a reservation made thru Open Table. I did not have my phone on either occasion as I was with others, so I could not show them the reservation via my phone. I had not brought a copy either time of the paper reservation because I've never needed one when I made a reservation thru Open Table. On the first occasion, after I insisted that the hostess look two more times, she finally found my reservation. On this most recent occasion, Sunday, July 7, the hostess insisted that I did not have a reservation. I asked them (now 2 hostesses) to check again - and then, again - and still was told I did not have my reservation. There was plenty of room, so seating was not a problem. When I arrived back home, I found an e-mail from Open Table saying they were sorry I had not been able to make my reservation at La Bodega. I immediately wrote back and said that not only had I made a reservation, but that my niece and I had spent (with tip) $100 there. So I was credited with points for the visit. Clearly, either the hostesses at La Bodega were completely inept, or did not know how to use the reservation system, or their computer system was not working properly.The bottom line is that I very much like the food at La Bodega (although I have learned to order tapas a few at a time to avoid them all coming at once), and I like the outside seating at the Leawood location, I strongly recommend that you take evidence of your Open Table reservation so you can avoid the pain-in-the-neck I experienced. I would have been furious if I had not been able to get a seat after making the reservation well ahead of time. I do NOT believe Open Table did anything wrong with my reservation. More...

WE go for lunch and sit in bar area so noise level is quite acceptable. John is the bartender/server in that area and he takes very good care of us. We eat at La Bodega 2 to 3 times a year for special events. This time was Father's Day. With 4 being the usual crowd, no one ever gets less than 2 Tapa's to eat, while some of us do at least 3. La Bodega has good Spanish tapas with new and tasteful flavors. Take some risks and the rewards will come flying in. I especially like the dates with chorizo.
Word of warning, though. You will be paying a lot for little food. You will pay for quality over quantity, but if this is okay with you, La Bodega will make for a fun experience.
