We arrived for a quick (and rather late) lunch on a snowy day as we drove down to St. Paul for the weekend. We started out with a fish pakora - something we've never had before. Tilapia chunks fried in a batter! A bit on the salty side but the accompanying tamarind and mint sauce were both excellent. We followed this up with the Mali (although the correct spelling should be Malai) Kofta and some Peshwari Naan. Both were very good although the naan was a bit more generous with raisins than we were accustomed to. We opted for the "medium" level of spice, but felt that the food could be a little more spicy. The flavor was perfect on all dishes.All in all not a bad experience! Hope to return someday with some friends and family and try the vast number of dishes on the menu. More...

I thought this place was a jewlery store for years, ....well turns out it was quite a hidden gem for me.Chicken Masala is my go to with a side of Garlic Naan bread, and i am upset that i didnt say some of masala for left overs, i regret that i am moving out of town after finding this awesome little Indian restaurant a few blocks away.

I was in town visiting friends, and this is their go-to restaurant. And for good reason! It was difficult to decide on a meal because several different items sounded fantastic. The food we did order was phenomenal. We each gave everyone a taste of what we ordered and I would have been excited to have any of it as my main dish. Absolutely delicious food and great service! Adding to this after I first reviewed (about 2 years later): We went out here for dinner last night. My wife and I both ordered dishes with lamb, and when our food was brought, it was with chicken instead. Neither her or I realized this (because it was Delicious!) until the server came back shortly after and apologized and informed us of the mix-up. We insisted no problem, and were good with what he'd served us, but he had already had the kitchen restart what we ordered. So we ate what he served us (again, FANTASTIC), and then our original order was provide to us to go! So ultimately we got two meals free to bring home. I was the first to review this place which is cool. My review still holds as it's excellent food done well with a good bar. They show international sports like cricket on TV which is fun to watch. Wow! After much suggestion from my mom, Executive Chef brother and 8 year old daughter, I finally tried, not only Kohinoor Bar & Grill for the first time, but Indian food for the first time! They have been here before, so they knew how good it was. I’m glad I finally ‘gave in’ - the food was amazing! My daughter started out with the kiwi iced tea and Lemon Chicken Soup - both were amazing! Then, our table of 4 all shared the Garlic Naan, Tandoori Wings, Chicken Balti and Shrimp Goan Curry. I was blown away at the portion of food served, the quality and the flavors. The service was outstanding, as well. Not once did we sit with an empty glass or beer, wine, tea or water. After my trip I was fortunate enough to have Memorial Day off. I drove my butt to St. Cloud to visit my mother and her friends. My mother was in town visiting so we all decided to go out for dinner. Her friends chose this Indian place. Apparently the owners of this place are the same family that owns Star of India in St. Cloud as well. We arrived and we didn't need reservations. It was a rainy day, so there weren't many people out and about. Our party consisted of 5 people. We started with 2 orders of Vegetable Samosas-6 total. For our entrees, Chuck is always down for ethnic food, he ordered the lamb sheesh kebabs with vegetables, Pat ordered the same thing but with rice. Jim doesn't like spicy things or Seafood, so he ordered the chicken tenders. Mom ordered the Tandoori Chicken with rice and I ordered the Chana Masala. We also collectively got 2 orders of Naan, 1 plain and 1 garlic. I was with a group of non-spicy lovin' people. I however, love spicy, it's always more flavorful, and just delicious! I asked for my meal to be spicy, medium/hot, everyone ordered mild. Sometimes I feel like who I'm with depends on if I get the spicy level I asked for. The Chana was delicious, however it was very bland, I felt I was missing out on a lot of the flavor. I had left overs and during my next meal I added hot sauce to it, to help bring out those flavors I was missing.The staff was nice, fast, and friendly. I don't often come to St. Cloud anymore, but if I did, and people wanted to go here again, I would go because I love Indian Food. My first experience at Kohinoor. I stopped here for lunch. Food is excellent, great flavor, tender bites of Chicken and just the right amount of heat to taste but not over power the dish. I ordered the Chicken Marsala, you'll be asked if you want mild, medium or hot. I went with medium. You'll definitely taste the heat and spice. My rice was pretty good, I did find some of my rice clumped together, but overall still good. My only knock is the price. With a beverage and meal it was nearly 20 dollars. Kohinoor never fails to be delicious!!! Though my only complaint would be that I would like it to be more spicy when I say I want hot. My mother's food has always been spicy so I grew up having spice in my food until I came here to St. Cloud for college and every time my partner and I come here and I say I'd like it spicy it still just seems to have a slight medium kick to it, but as always still delicious. Kohinoor was such an all around amazing experience! Never having tried authentic Indian food before, I was a bit apprehensive but to my surprise and with the guidance of our fantastic waiter, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. We started out with their Aloo Tikki as an appetizer, for my main course, I had the Methi Chicken Curry with the Paneer Naan. My boyfriend had the Balti chicken curry and LOVED his meal as well. The full bar made ordering drinks easy, and delicious. We topped our meal off with their Gulab Jamun for dessert, which was also wonderful. I will be recommending to all our friends and family.
