King strength and performance is awesome! I joined in November and I've lost 11 pounds and 16 inches. I am lean and strong! Gerrick and the trainers there are motivating, knowledgeable and caring. I've been to my fair share of gyms and fitness classes - commercial gyms, CrossFit, Zumba, spin etc. You name it and I've probably tried it. What sets King apart from all those other gyms I've tried is not only the quality of workouts that they provide but also their trainers. I always leave the gym feeling great about myself and my body. The trainers are so attentive and supportive and the workouts are diverse and exciting. They are always quick with modifications if there's something you can't so. I've also had some personal training in addition to taking classes with Coach Austin. He has always given me a personalized program that was fun and exciting to achieve my goals. Working with him for a couple weeks has helped me lose some pesky tummy weight, build muscle and achieve my lifting goals. I've never felt more confident in my body and my abilities in the gym. I would be hard pressed to find a more welcoming gym atmosphere than at King. Everytime someone new comes everyone is quick to introduce themselves. It is one of the most positive and uplifting communities that I've been apart of. More...

Joining a new gym can be intimidating especially when you suffer from injuries that have caused you to be hesitant and frankly weak. From day one of walking into King’s I have never felt so welcomed and supported. From the trainers such as Gerrick and Chris J who take the time to explain every move to you, provide modifications and ensure you’re doing the exercises correctly to the other members who cheer you on and keep you motivated, I have never felt so supported at a gym. Coming from NYC class style atmospheres where you constantly feel judged by other members, I truly feel King’s is an encouraging support system. I sustained a lower back injury a month prior to joining this gym. I was not only intimidated with a gym like this but also afraid I wouldn't keep up with certain classes due to the recovery from my injury. Gerrick made me feel comfortable by implementing exercises that substitute the original exercise so that there isn't as much stress on my lower back. For example, I wouldn't deadlift with a regular deadlifting bar, as it would be too heavy and poses more risk in injuring my back again. Instead, I would use a kettlebell since it's lighter and more comfortable for my back to handle. After a month, with the encouragement of Gerrick and one of my friends, I felt more confident with how my back felt. So I decided to try attempting a regular deadlift instead of using a kettlebell. On my first attempt, I was able to go for 5 reps of 100 lbs! I was pretty proud of myself, especially because that was my first ever attempt at a deadlift. A week later, I decided to push myself further, and successfully deadlifted 115 lbs. At this point, I was afraid of going further than that, thinking that I might injure my back again. So that ended up being my max PR at the time. At the end of the month, I wanted to raise my PR even more and ended up doing a PR of 185 lbs! I was surprised I successfully did that. Gerrick and the people here gave me the confidence to step out of my shell and do things I never would have imagined I would do. They helped me overcome my fear of bringing back my injury to do exercises I was reluctant to do and I'm very grateful for that support. More...

Gerrick is very knowledgeable about fitness. I've always been moderately fit but was never able to surpass certain goals, but training with him has kept me consistent. These days I am periodically hitting my set PR goals. I'm stronger now, feel more confident, and no longer fear weight training. This place has such a great atmosphere! The owner is top notch and the coaches make you feel comfortable, no matter what level you're at with your fitness. I used to be a bit intimidated to go to gyms and lift weights, but not here. They make you feel at home and I always get a great workout. Everything is clean, bathrooms are nice and they have special workouts, workshops and a physical therapist on staff. Great addition to Cranford. Highly recommend! More...

Gerrick and the staff at King Strength & Performance built a culture that I've never experienced at other gyms. Every time I walk through the doors, I feel like I'm a part of a family. Warm smiles, encouragement and laughter are abundant here. Gerrick truly listens to his clients & customers and has an attention to detail that can't be found anywhere else. I met Gerrick through a friend who was currently training with him. I'm very picky when it comes to personal trainers since I have had a few in the past that weren't capable of helping me stick to my goals. I can get frustrated very easily and give up before reaching any of them. I was skeptical at first, but she kept saying he was a great trainer and just give him a shot. I was not disappointed. I attended some of his group training classes and was impressed. Once he opened his own gym, I signed up right away. His workouts are both challenging and motivating. He can easily read a client and know how much weight he or she should start with, how many reps, when to modify an exercise to prevent any injury, etc. I told him my goals and he immediately knew what to target and how to go about it. His workouts challenge you but he also creates a fun atmosphere so I never get bored. It's only been a few months but I already feel stronger and healthier and I don't plan to stop any time soon! I have worked out at almost all of the gyms in the Cranford/Westfield area and I have to say that most trainers were not knowledgable and did not take my hip labrum tear into consideration; causing me to further injure my hip and hit a plateau in my progress. Because of this, I have been bouncing from gym to gym trying to find the right fit for me. King Strength and Performance is the first place that I have been to that truly understands and accommodates to my injury. I was unable to perform a deadlift or bend over at all because I was so scared to re-injure my hip but the owner/head trainer Gerrick and their physical therapist Din have worked hand and hand with helping me learn proper movement patterns and techniques to prevent further injury. I went from not deadlifting at all to deadlifting 155lbs, which is more than my bodyweight! (In less than 2 months). - The staff is friendly, passionate and very knowledgable in exercise science and movement. - The facility is brand new, clean and easily accessible with plenty of parking in the heart of Downtown Cranford. - It is convenient having a one stop shop for personal training, group classes and physical therapy. - The community they have built is extraordinary, everyone who trains is welcomed to a family and that helps keep everyone accountable. I've been a member of traditional gyms for a while now and can honestly say that switching out and joining King Strength and Performance has been one of the best decisions I've made.  It's been about two months since I started training at the gym and I can already see huge leaps in my strength and athletic ability. Walking into a new gym will always be intimidating to me, but walking into King Strength and Performance made me feel welcomed. I have never been to a gym where everyone actually talked to one another during AND after class. In the past month, I've made some friends with similar fitness goals, and it makes these group classes fun even when my body isn't fully awake at 7am.This gym truly stands by its slogan "Consistency is King." Taking these fitness classes made it easier for me to get into my workout routine; however, all the daily workouts vary. I have been coming here almost every day, and I definitely feel my overall strength and performance has improved. Gerrick does a great job in acknowledging clients' abilities and caters the workout to their difficulty. He offers countless exercise regressions and progressions for his clients' needs. Also, his confidence in his clients makes it all the worthwhile to do your absolute best during these group classes. I am sure with Gerrick's help, I'll finally achieve my goal of doing a body weight pull-up. I had been looking for a new gym to train in after I moved further from my last gym and I didn't like the vibe there anymore. I was SO excited for King Strength to open and once I stepped in the door, I knew this was the place for me! Being a previous cross fit gym, some people thought and probably still think it's another cross fit gym but I assure you it's far from it! Gerrick has a variety of classes that can cater to anyone of any fitness level. He also changes his classes on a weekly basis so you'll never do the same workout twice! And if personal training is what you prefer, Gerrick is the trainer for you! As a powerlifter, taking class wasn't something I did nor did I think I had the stamina for it and after a year break, I thought I wouldn't be able to do it. But Gerrick helps you the entire way! He'll show you the movement and make sure you're doing it correctly to prevent injury. He'll push you to finish and you'll find yourself motivating and getting motivated by other attendees. And for any other lifters, you can definitely come in and just train. You'll never need to look for a barbell or weights because King Strength has plenty of them.The gym itself is open and spacious with a modern feel and family-oriented atmosphere. King Strength also has a Physical Therapist that can help you rehab! Doc Din is super nice and knowledgeable. If you're looking for a place with the right vibe, this is definitely it. A year break is a long time but after training here once, I immediately couldn't wait to get back into consistent training. You'll want to come back for sure. More...

Many things about this place keep me coming back. I am a big sucker for amazing customer service and the owner Gerrick gives you just that. From setting up my first appointment- to pushing me to push myself in his classes- it's honestly been such a great experience. I'm not usually a pro-gym person at all- and I usually struggle a lot when it comes to motivating myself in the gym and sticking to it- but this place has helped me to focus on being healthier and more serious about going to the gym. Although most workouts kick my butt- it has not made me feel defeated or above my head as to keep me from going back or feeling out of place. Even the other people in the gym who might be more accustomed to the workouts have been welcoming too! Walking into any gym is intimidating enough and I especially hate it when you walk in and the people there do not make you feel welcome. You will not experience that at King. Gerrick does a really good job at incorporating partner/team workouts to promote camaraderie at the gym. Every time I walk into class, I feel like I am welcomed by family even though I have never met some of the people there before. Gerrick is also very knowledgeable and is extremely dedicated to helping each of his clients reach their goals. In the middle of a full class, he is able to target an individual's weakness and help guide them to finish the workout safely and successfully. All of the workouts are programmed to fit any fitness level. Although the workouts are pretty challenging, he is somehow able to keep the workouts fun and still functional. I began training with Gerrick back in 2016 at a gym that was less than two miles away from my house. Now that he has opened King in Cranford, I am willing to drive upwards of 45 minutes every weekday in crappy weather just to train with him. If you have considered checking the place out, I would totally recommend setting up your fitness assessment ASAP! You will not be disappointed. More...

I have been searching for a while now for a gym and personal trainer that won't make me feel intimidated or discouraged. Gerrick and King Strength & Performance were exactly what I needed to put a jump start to my fitness goals. I've been coming to him for about a month now and it's safe to say that I LOVE coming! Every time I come through the door, I feel like family. You might have an impression that this might be a crossfit-esque kind of place- but it really is not. It's different...Just the other day I attended one of his classes and one of the other attendees told me, "I was intimidated bc I thought this was going to be a cross-fit kind of place...but it's not! I actually really enjoy this...this is different and exactly what I was looking for." That comment speaks for itself.Weirdly enough, I don't dread ever coming in. Currently living in Pway, it is a journey to drive to Cranford to work out...but honestly IT'S WORTH IT! I highly recommend Gerrick and this place for anyone who wants to get serious with their fitness goals. He keeps all each and every workout entertaining and different so you'll never get bored.
