Q&As

A great website resonates with its visitors; the content is informative, extremely well organized, and easy to navigate. A great site contains fantastic content and rockstar-level writing through-out, supported by intriguing, high-impact visual imagery. A great website must quickly and clearly communicate key messages and precise differentiations focused on the value of products or services being offered. A great site contains a compelling call to action that results in prospects taking the next step of involvement. This could be easy-availability of educational information, subscriptions to informative e-newsletters, or specific incentives for making direct purchases. From a design standpoint, a great website should reflect the truism that “ less is more.” A clean, uncluttered aesthetic equals the foundation for a great site!

The first questions to answer are:
• What is your product or service?
• What makes your product or service different and better than your competition?
• What other key messages support the value of your product or service?
• To whom are you communicating? What is the profile of your potential customer?
• What challenges does your product or service face in the marketplace?
• What are your competitors doing within the marketplace you are targeting?
• What is the timeline for this specific project?
• What are your precise expectations for this project? What will be the measurement for successful performance?
• Do you have an existing budget for this project?
• Who will be responsible, from your organization, for coordinating this project?
• Do you have an existing database for prospecting or must this be built?
• What additional market research is available to assist in conceptualizing an effective communications approach for this project?

The first step is always to be absolutely clear on what is expected. That is the only way of effectively beginning the creative process. This might mean long, detailed discovery conversations with the client, or hopping on the web for hours, researching social links, searching online for news postings, public relations announcements, customer reviews, commentary, and information about top competitors. I make notes throughout my exploration process on any thought that comes to mind plus facts I need to know. I think about, then put together a plan, run it by other like-minded professionals to gain new insights or approaches. I share the plan, goals, quote, costs and production schedules with my client. Once the plan is approved my team and I get moving!

There is no single answer to this question. Sometimes the best part of a job is the challenging but rewarding flexibility of owning one’s business and being able to make choices about what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. Sometimes the best part of a job is the relationship between the people who are working to make the job successful. Sometimes the best part of a job is helping a client beat all competitors. There are few things better than achieving all desired expectations based on conceptualizing programs that are founded on solid knowledge and implemented with comprehensive energy and attention to detail.

Variety. I need and welcome diversity. Endless challenges, a wide-range of personality types to work with, and rewards that come from understanding and appreciating that everyone has different needs and goals. I started a business not to make life easier but to make it very, very interesting.

Because I can prove my performance. Let’s talk about your sales and marketing communication needs and I’ll show you precisely how I have helped others to succeed. In doing so we’ll get to know each other and, I am confident, establish a comfort level that can become the foundation for a long-term, mutually-rewarding relationship.
