About Karen....


I grew up in Upstate New York and was lucky enough as a kid to spend my summers on the beautiful St. Lawrence River. So after college when my then boyfriend (now husband) asked me to move to Richmond with him I decided a place called the River City couldn't be that bad. I was right! Since 2006 we have called Richmond, VA home.

​My professional life began here when I accepted a studio photography position. Within a year I was managing a successful studio franchise. In my second year with the company I was approached to leave the studio and teach Photography at the high school level while still photographing on the side. I accepted that challenge in 2008 and loved every second of it for 8 years. My students were (are) amazing and I genuinely love them. Their creativity and their passion challenge me to this day to pursue my craft and I'm grateful for their collaboration.
​In 2016 my side project became a full time career when I left (traditional) teaching and here I am!

I love to travel, especially Europe, as often as I can
​(with photography students mostly) but also for shoots.

​I am more than lucky to have the love and support of my husband, Justin. He is an incredible teacher and Super Dad to our beautifully talented and silly daughter, Lucy. My Light and Muse has 3 fur siblings and they run our home. As an admitted dog hoarder, I wouldn’t have it any other way!
