If you're in the mood for great Mediterranean food, atmosphere and warm service, Kabob Republic is the place to go. We've been dining here since it opened. We've hosted family gatherings and catered dinners for friends at this restaurant, our guests have always been amazed. My favorite dishes are their homemade chicken and tri-tip gyros, the freshest salads, the chicken and lamb shish kebab, grilled ground tri-tip beyti kebab, hummus, and falafel. My kids love the lamb chops, and kefir mushroom. Try their homemade baklava too, it is delicious. We live a few streets away so it's wonderful to have a healthy Mediterranean restaurant close by. It was truly a pleasure dining here! I was extremely pleased with the quality of food, decor, cleanliness, and especially customer service! My favorites are Iskender; grilled gyro and tomato with yogurt sauce and the homemade baklava. They serve homemade Mediterranean food and have many options on their menu. This basmati rice is next level. I'm transcending. Ordered super late night (~230 AM) and was still greeted with fresh, amazing food and great customer service. Took about 20 minutes to get home but the food was still amazing. Baba ganoush has a beautiful bite to it that really balances out the smokiness. Even the roasted veggies were perfect! Overall I'd definitely come here again. The turnip juice is seasonal apparently but my interest has been piqued. I'll be back very soon :)Still not over the rice. Wow! Kabob Republic is hands down the best Greek food in Orange County. Ekwem is an incredible chef and host, he treated us to complimentary Bhklava that was the best I had ever had! The food is fresh, organic and all his meat is cage and hormone free. The presentation was incredible and the ambience is excellent. Ordered the filet kabob and chicken kabob a la carte. It was so much food. Easily the fillet kabob a la cart would've been enough. They included grilled veggies as well as two different sauces to use. The filet was perfectly cooked and so tender. Chicken was great as well. What impressed me too was the staff cleaning up inside & out. For example, a guy sweeping in front of the restaurant and the girl who took my order making sure every table was set perfectly. The decor is what drew me in to look at their menu. It's a pretty space for a casual date or lunch with friends.  It's a smaller venue so it could get crowded very easily. Colors inside are the perfect coastal blue hues and white makes the place bright, airy and spacious. Ambiance is a plus. From what I saw it was clean from the main floor to even their restroom. Staff was attentive for the most part. They encouraged me to try a sample of the beef, I believe, and it was flavorful.  I was there for the bike shop, but afterwards, we decided to try the restaurant. There are a few tables outside. Preferred the roasted pepper hummus (has a spicy kick) and the baklava of all the things we tried. The chicken wrap took a while, but it was ok, on the dry side so I'd request extra sauce next time. Their baklava is delicous, too. It's about four bite-size squares for about $6/7. On the pricier side from what I've experienced in other venues, but I'd still get these again. Great Place for excellent Greek Gyros Me and my family was at the Balboa Beach and on the way back we saw this place said about Kabob Republic. I was not wearing proper dress for a restaurant but regards less the people us with open arms the gyros were delicious, and it was a very nice and clean place. This place has by far one of the moat authentic Turkish foods in orange county.You have to try the specialties which are pretty amazing. Their iskender and ali nazik is a must try.Their other entrees are also really good. Update:  We we pretty disappointed with our sandwiches tonight. We ordered our usual the tri tip gyros  to go but when we got home we found our sandwiches were mostly veggies with very few pieces of meat.  In addition the sandwiches were so wet we couldn't even pick them up, they just fell apart. This is the best Mediterranean food restaurant I've been to and I've tried a lot of places. I've now eaten here twice and the second time is even better than I remember the first!  The tri-tip and gyro meat is insanely delicious. Not exaggerating. I took my family to Kabob Republic for the first time and the food and service was great.  Owner, Ekrem was very nice and helpful, he was welcoming and gave us samples and helped us pick what we wanted.  Food is great and prices are reasonable. Taste was close to what i remember from my trip to Turkey, some dishes are traditional so it depends on what you like.  I really enjoyed the Doner kabab, the meet is really good and the combination with mixed greens and pickles and...is amazing.  Lamb Gyro was great too.  The meet was similar to what you find outside but the combination with mixed greens, pickles onions and ... It's really amazing. The key is what he adds to the wraps.  Also, he puts a lot of beef/Lamb.  My favorite was spicy shish kabob.  It's spicy ground beef on skewer and it is really good.  We tried Kefir Mushroom dip and tzatziki and rice, all great.  I will diffidently go back to try more. This place is a hidden gem, I have been to so many hello places I am not sure how I had never gone here before. The staff year's super friendly and the food is very fresh. My daughter was making a lot of noise and running around but they were super kind and understanding about it.  My wife ordered the chicken shawarma wrap and I ordered the combo plate with the beef and chicken kafta.  Both plates were outstanding and the atmosphere of the location is also great. We often get catering at work from this establishment because :1. It's close in proximity 2. Everybody loves Mediterranean food at the officeFast forward a few months later, I finally got to see what the restaurant looked like in person. From the moment you step inside, I felt like I was being transported back to my holiday in Greece. Not only is the restaurant darling, the food is absolutely delicious. Had lamp chops and lamb tenderloin the meat is tender and tastes wonderful, each order comes with 2 sides and tzatziki we had Jimmy's, , baba gannoush,  eggplant salad and spicy potato and wit pita bread we had a wonderful meal ending it with the best Turkish baklava.Definitely will be back

I love love love the food here. Every time I come I feel like I'm transported to the Greek islands. Cozy and staff are friendly and super nice. I really enjoy the garlic sauce on the side. My favorite dish would be the kabob mixed plate with beef and chicken. The grilled veggies make the entire dish feel so healthy and light too. Come try this place! I don't write many reviews, but I have worked in the restaurant industry for going on three decades and this shop deserves to be a success. Killing it. Honestly the quality of the food far outperforms it's humble location and setting.  Boutique space and counter ordering belie preparations more equivalent to fine dining. The chef is obviously the owner and the quality is evident in every dish I've tried so far.  I was not expecting this place to be chef driven. The name unfortunately gives the perception of a chain restaurant. It is my forst time here. I love Mediterranean kitchen. As I fan of Mediterranean kitchen this place is in my favorites list. I have tried Choban kavurma. It was not only unique but also very delicious and special. It comes with two sides that you can choose a variety of options from. I picked kefir mashroom and baba gannoush. They were amazing. First time visit.  Small place, Great food!Menu selection is diverse.  Protein is chicken, beef & lamb. And for the vegetarians in our lives, they have Falafel.  You can order a pita wrap (starting at $8.99), an entree (starting at $13.99), or the award winning chef specials (all at $19.99).I had the Duet Doner Kabob choosing beef & lamb as my "duet". The sidekick were Baba Ganoush and Tabouli Salad. The beef is tri-tip diced up, mixed with herbs & spices then served next to very tender thinly sliced lamb.  Both were seasoned to perfection that only tasting it can do justice.  The Baba Ganoush is pureed roasted eggplant mixed with tahini, olive oil, Mediterranean herbs, and spices until turns to a smoky, smooth, creamy dip.  The Tabouli Salad is cracked wheat (bulgur) mixed with finely chopped parsley, spring onions, and tomatoes and seasoned with olive oil, lemon juice, Mediterranean herbs, and spices. I don't like eggplant, but puree roasted with the herbs and spices, it was smooth & delicious.  The salad was good, if you like mint.  Overall, a great experience where I would stop by again.Highly recommend this hole-in-the-wall located near the corner of Newport & 18th (next to the Cyclist Shop).BTW, very friendly ppl. Hubby and I love this place. The ambience is beautifully relaxing and the food is delicious. The menus have pictures for every dish so you can see what you're ordering.   We've eaten here a couple of times and stick to the #24 duet meal: I had chicken and lamb, he had chicken and beef, plus the homemade baklava (so good!).   Let me say that I've never liked he gamey taste of lamb, but the lamb here is so well seasoned you don't even get a hint of any gameyness (sp?)- it's become my favorite. The chicken is tastey and juicy and the beef is nice and tender. The side dishes are really good too (tzatziki, tabouli salad, kefir with mushrooms, garlic sauce, the basmati rice... I can go on, it's all very good).   We'll be heading back in a few weeks (we live 30 minutes away) to try out other menu selections, and I don't have a doubt about the quality or taste of anything on their menu.
