K-911 Dog Training is the BEST! I recently got a puppy that I couldn't seem to get to behave. Scott, the trainer, completely changed my dog! He did an amazing job training my puppy, and I would recommend K-911 Dog Training to everyone who has trouble with obedience in their dog(s)! More...

Dog Training

Group training sessions are not for me as I feel there is too much distraction not only for my dog but for me as well. However, recently I became concerned with one of my dogs behavior so I started searching for help. In my search, I found Scott and he is wonderful! Our first appointment I felt completely comfortable and not judged, he was full of information, and when he worked with my dog I was amazed! Scott provides one on one training and I look forward to working with him! More...

Our experience with Mr Macdonald was not great. When I first spoke to him I let him know the issues we were having with our dog, asked if he could help us. He sounded great over the phone and sounded like he had a lot of experience. I felt comfortable with my decision to hire this man. He lives far and I was totally fine with this because he definitely sounded very qualified and professional. The only red flag was that when we had our phone consultation, he stated we (my husband & I) could pay half of the fee before I dropped off, and then the other half at the time of pick up. When he called to confirm that I was indeed hiring him he stated that he needed the payment in full?! Ok, he sounded qualified so I really was a little confused but happy to pay in full. I dropped my dog off for a week of - in home dog training at Mr. Macdonald’s. The first three days seemed great I would text and get reply’s and updates on my dog. Then after that Mr. Macdonald went silent. I would text, no reply. I called left voice mails nothing, sent a few emails, again nothing. This went on until the full week was completed. The day I was supposed to go pick my dog up, an hour before to be exact I finally get a text asking when “will I arrive?” I replied and let Mr. Macdonald know that I would be there within the hour. Get to his house he states that he’s been very sick and that he doesn’t have time to go over follow up with me, due to him feeling like he’s going to pass out. He does however, tell me he will email me follow up handouts. This is supposed to be so that when I bring my dog home I know what to say and how to handle him and continue with training. He also stated that I would get an in home free session at our house since he wasn’t feeling well at the time of pickup. Again, I gave this man the benefit of doubt thinking ok maybe he’s really ill and he’ll get back to me once he’s feeling better. It has been 1 month and have yet to get an email with handouts, a follow up call, and of course no free session. I would not recommend him. People work hard for their money and I do too, I feel like it was a complete waste of our hard earned money. Not to mention the only thing I was told was the key word to make our dog stop bitting and jumping. More...

Scott MacDonald IS NOT associated with the Associations he lists on his website - ALWAYS check!! Ask LOCAL law enforcement or search the actual APDT site for REAL training professionals in your area. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM. RUN!

Q&As

I enjoy working with people and all breeds. I feel great fulfillment when passing on the knowledge and training techniques I've learned to my clients. I enjoy getting my clients excited when they see dog behavior from a new perspective and watching the progress their dogs make! Improving the quality of life for pets and people is my main goal!

I was employed by the Humane Society of Boulder Valley for over 10 years and worked in numerous departments. I spent 4 of those years working as an Animal Control Officer. During that time, I realized that a lot of the issues owners were facing could be avoided if they had access to a knowledgeable trainer who didn't charge unnecessary fees.

I am a certified, reward based, force free trainer with over 14 years of experience. Clients should be informed that uncertified trainers, of which there are many, charge comparable or even larger fees for services that may sound similar but actually involve punishment based methods. These methods can cause fear, anxiety and aggression to manifest or intensify while suppressing warning signs and communication from dogs. Trainers who do not have the proper education, experience, and certification regularly increase stress on the dog and can cause the client's legal liability to rise.

I use only positive reinforcement, reward based training techniques and sessions include handouts, training plans, and continued free access to me for follow-up questions via email, text, or phone after the initial appointment.

Not at this time. I prefer to instruct my client and train their dog in person.

I get boosters of the vaccine regularly. When requested, I wear a mask. And I use sanitizer between appointments.

Services

In-Home Basic Manners Training and Behavior Modification for Fear, Anxiety, and Aggression. Following the initial appointment, I'm available by phone, text, and email for brief troubleshooting needs, at no additional cost. Pet/ House Sitting is also available (in your home) during absences for $60/ day.
Basic Manners Training teaches the ABC's of new skills and positive behavior strategies. Behavior Modification is addresses more complex behavior problems stemming from an underlying emotional cause. Management strategies may be recommended in order to prevent the rehearsal of undesirable behavior while training begins. You will also be provided w training plans and informational handouts during the training session. Additional training sessions are encouraged, especially for issues requiring behavior modification, and can be scheduled as needed.

Pet Sitting & Training (in-your-home) can
be an efficient means for jump starting basic manners training or modifying specific behavior problems where they occur (in your home). A free training session would be provided, upon your return, in order to demonstrate proper training techniques and allow for discussion of relevant training material.
