A fav location for delicious Italian food. Very tasty. Quick, helpful, and friendly service. The bill was reasonable I would say. Menu is like a place in San Francisco I loved. More...

Amazing night atmosphere with outstanding service. Perfect for a party with privacy or just a date night out. I always order pasta dishes because they are always 5 stars to me. My fav is the seafood pasta but I change the marina sauce to Alfredo. More...

This place has delicious food and great service. It's a beautiful location and the interior has a super high ceiling with intricate detailed pillars and stuff inside. Beyond that, the food we ordered was all cooked well and tasted great. It's expensive, but about what you would expect for this type and quality of meal. More...

This is a beautiful restaurant with absolutely delicious food and very attentive, courteous wait staff. It's located in the historic Wells Fargo building near the state capitol building. I highly recommend Il Fornaio for an incredible Italian dining experience! More...

Good food, although the food on the season menu is Hit and miss. Bartender seems to have a heavy hand with the cocktails, so if you like sweeter drinks, you may want to request more simple syrup. Good service. Cute atmosphere.

This is one of the better Italian restaurants in Sacramento. The service is superior than anywhere else. The waiter knew exactly the ingredients of the and how it was prepared. The waiter also suggested an excellent wine that went beautifully with my entree. More...

As I was walking back to my hotel after a trade show and I stopped in for a break. The restaurant is inviting and offers a beautiful open-air feeling with high-quality decor and a lively professional atmosphere. I decided to sit at the bar and enjoy a glass of wine and a few appetizers. The wine selections were great with variety and reasonable pricing. I ordered a happy hour appetizer of house-made meatballs and polenta. It was excellent and just enough. The bartender was also very friendly and attentive. In looking around, the food looked very fresh and presented well. I wish I would have ordered their pizza but it was too large for one person to handle. Maybe on my next visit....it was very good. We have dined here off and on for many years, but it is the more recent experiences to which I want to call attention. We brought my parents here for what was to be their last anniversary together. The staff, without us knowing any of this was going to happen, went out of their way to ensure that my parents had 'extra special treatment' at the meal. I bottomlessly appreciated their kindness and attentiveness in accommodating mom being in a wheelchair. On a separate later occasion, we brought mom here to celebrate what will probably be her last birthday. At the time she had dementia that had progressed considerably. Her table manners were not the best but we wanted her to have a nice experience. We were treated with great kindness and respect, and the food was as always fabulous. Mom is now in the last stage of her disease, bedridden, and I will never forget that her last two experiences dining out were extremely positive ones. We will always be very grateful! More...

This works well for a place to celebrate a special occasion. The decor is lovely, historical touches in the Wells Fargo building. The menu should have a choice for everyone in your group. A good wine list. Desserts were great as was the service. More...

Great historic building to enjoy very good, chef prepared dining. Great service and ambiance that takes you back in time. Dining with aged grandparents recommended to complete the feeling of nostalgia!

Nice place, wrong dish. Ordered the ravioli, in what appeared to be canned tomatoe sauce. Tasted good but presentation could use some work. My wife had the salmon which was excellent. I ordered a glass of wine from the day-menu, $12, showed up on the bill as $17. It was corrected after I asked, and to be fair, I was offered a taste sample to make sure I liked it in advance. Overall, good. More...

This based in Italy chain outdid itself with the beautifully classic look that, along with authentic Italian food transports us to a virtual Italy.

Excellent Italian menu served in a beautiful, comfortable environment. Our waiter, Zachary, is friendly and efficient. The drinks are large and we'll made. Wine selection is extensive with many California vintages. The vegan pasta primavera is delicious. The pasta is served "al dente" and vegetables we're sauteed to deliver a gentle sweetness which is accented by the slightly acidic tomato sauce. Everything is wheelchair accessible. In the evening free street parking is available. Otherwise, when the street parking is unavailable, expensive building parking always available. More...

The menu is almost overwhelming. Add to it an insert for seasonal items from the various regions in Italy and it can some time to pick your meal. Ultimately, I settled on items from the standard menu. The calamari and pasta al pomodoro were excellent. The only detraction was the wait service. Timing between appetizer and entree was rushed. The waiter brought plates to the table before we were ready and there was no space on the table. Nonetheless, I would definitely go back for the pasta, plus they validated parking. More...

Fabulous seabass in caper, olive sauce with spinach and mashed potatoes. Portioned just right. The menu is definitely improving.
My only ongoing complaint is the loud banging of platters, dishes and silverware by staff. Why not move the prep/ service station backstage?

Every December the family has dinner at Il Fornaio to honor the birthday of my late stepson. It's a tradition. The service and food is always outstanding. This year, we had some complications due to food allergies, and one of the desserts we ordered not being available. The General Manager comp'd our desserts and was extremely accommodating. This is what gold star customer service is about! After 15 years of family tradition, this is why we keep coming back. Thank you Il Fornaio for another memorable year. More...

I come to Il Fornaio mostly for dinners with clients and partners since it's one of the more upscale Italian restaurants in downtown Sacramento. The last time I was here was probably one of the more pleasant experiences I have had. I ordered the angel hair pasta dish with tomato-based sauce and it was delicious. The recommended wine pairing was great too. Service was also excellent. More...
