This is probably one of my favorite hotels. They have many different pools, rooms are good size, happy hour is great, bike rentals, golf , and definitely kid friendly. The best part it's all included with your stay. Not to far down there is also a ferry  to get to the other side More...

Loved my experience here. The gym is well equipped! The place is clean and the service fenomenal when it comes to vallet parking and front desk. Derian did not pay for the 2 days he came to visit. Thank goodness! They just need to offer a small continental breakfast for the guests. Nothing extravagant, but coffee and juice will be enough to start your day. More...

I didn't stay here, but seriously looked at them hosting my daughter's wedding. Kallie Stewart, the Sales Mgr we met with was extremely helpful and professional. The venues looked great, with choices depending on the wedding size. And the prices seemed very reasonable for the area. My daughter is getting married out of state, but if not the Hyatt may have been the best choice! More...

5 stars for Victoria Evans, our pool server.  Last Friday, spent the day at the pool enjoying the beautiful resort.  Victoria was our server, quickly realized she was the only server at the pool.  Let me tell you, although short staffed, this girl hustled the entire day.  Our drinks never empty, always attentive and so so pleasant.  Thank you Victoria, your great service was so appreciated! Stayed here for my Wife's  Birthday!  We return for the excellent customer service provided by Chris at the front desk.  He has connected with my 6 year old son and values our family.  The valet staff are friendly and sociable.  The location is centrally located in Newport Beach.  Shot restaurant staff are great.  Breakfast Buffett was excellent!  Highly recommend location in Newport Beach! Had a wonderful visit! Mind you, the airport is not far so we heard flights overhead throughout the day and night. Parking is $27/night. Lido building had a fitness center with a big variety of equipment- weights, stationary bikes, kettlebells, bars,  treadmill, etc. They even accommodate guests with extra towels in the facility. Visited the Lido building for our room as well.  The  room was spacious. Room amenities were comfortable. Even had a small fridge available for our beverages and any snacks or groceries we may need to have on hand. There is a coffee shop with Starbucks beverages and a few breakfast items- bagels, muffins, breakfast sandwiches, croissants, etc. prices ranged from $4-10. For instance the bagel from the coffee shop was $4 but in the restaurant steps away I noticed we paid $5.50 or so for takeout items.  Belgian waffle ($16) was delicious, I recall, from the nearby restaurant. Pool staff was so kind and helpful. We visited the main pool I believe, by the Bay, the one with a slide, spa, mini golf, cornhole, ping pong and the table soccer/fooze ball. I tried a melon beer (can $8+) and it was delicious. There is also Dippin' Dots ice cream for $6+ Don't forget your key, because it's the only way to gain access into the pools and fitness centers. From the moment my family arrived we have nothing but positive moments at HR Newport. The staff was very efficient, friendly and accommodating. The property is very pretty and well maintained with clean rooms. Very close to Balboa, Newport and other nearby towns. Also, very easy to call Uber or Lyft (lots of cars on the road with short arrival waits). I appreciated the service of the Concierge Agent, Chloe, who helped us to find a solution to stow our luggage before our return flight home. She really took the extra steps to find a positive solution and it made a huge difference on our last day. Thank you Hyatt for making our vacation wonderfully pleasant. More...

I like coming here. I know the reviews say it sucks but it's not bad. The kids really like it. There's a bunch of kids here, likely why it's got bad reviews. The pools are really good. It'll likely remain a Hyatt category 3 though because it's so old and outdated. Even after the renovation. The location for us is the best. Biking distance to Balboa, it's also right on Jamboree so easy access to Irvine, and right next to Whole Foods and PCH for access to Huntington and Laguna. More...

I must say, I really appreciated Tyler today at the pool.  My little boy scrapped his knees and toe today and as I was checking  his wounds, without prompting Tyler came over with bandaids and alcohol swabs.  Not only was he sweet and attentive, after an afternoon of continuous play he came by with extra bandages for the evening after pool and bath time.  So attentive and kind.  Much appreciated.  Our server was also very attentive and kind.  Great service Thank you,Tyler More...

Very nice resort, conveniently located close to Fashion Island and Balboa Island. The grounds are very well kept, the hotel has 3 pools, an outdoor Chess set, shuffleboard area, fitness center and more. We stayed in the Balboa building with a pool view upgrade (highly recommended). I can see why the reviews are mixed on this resort, as depending on the building where you stay (there are 3 separate buildings), the experience may be vastly different.Balboa seemed like the "happening" area that looked the nicest and didn't have outdoor entry to each room like the other buildings. The other two buildings look much more dated, and seem like completely different hotels than Balboa. I probably wouldn't have been as happy staying in the other two buildings.Overall, satisfied with the stay. Self park is a little far as others have stated but I came prepared with a luggage cart to reduce the number of trips back and forth. Would stay here again. More...

This post is specifically for the reception's service, specifically a woman name Elizabeth. My family attended a wedding last night and I needed to nurse my son. Being a new mom and attending a wedding for he first time with a baby, of course I spaced out and realized I didn't wear a nursing friendly dress (would need to unzip from the back). I did not want to nurse my baby in a bathroom stall. So we went to the lobby thinking that perhaps they could let us borrow one of the conference rooms. Elizabeth, without hesitation, assured us she'd figure something out for us - she ended up giving us a key to check into one of the hotel rooms for us to us briefly to feed my son! We were floored by the kindness. We were in and out in 30 minutes and got to rejoin the wedding to enjoy the evening. I hope you guys recognize you have a stellar team member in Elizabeth, as I will be sharing this story with my mommy groups!!! More...

We just returned from a three night stay and had a great time. Love the location as a springboard for visiting Laguna Beach, Corona Del Mar, Balboa Boat Show, Fashion Island and our favorite place....Whole Foods! We had a special request for the hotel: to please turn OFF the WiFi in our room so we could enjoy a healthier night's sleep. Brendan, the Front Office Manager, and Danny, Director of Engineering were especially helpful in this regard. The grounds were just beautifully landscaped and maintained and we enjoyed the pool and the exercise room. The self-parking fee is a bit too high, but all-in-all it was a relaxing and memorable stay. Thank you Hyatt Regency Newport Beach for treating us right! More...

I had the opportunity to visit this establishment for an early morning executive meeting and award ceremony.  Like most higher end hotels, they offer both valet service and self parking.  Though, self parking might be at a disadvantage since its sunken a story or two.  You'll have to hike up that hills or battle stairs on the side entrance.  Not recommended for individuals with limited means.  Valet is the better choice. They have several different ballrooms that caters to various events. I ventured across an outdoor area that seems to be fitting for a wedding.  I was imagining how beautiful the venue would be with the lights and decor in place.  Eventually, I made my way to our meeting room where servers quickly greeted and offer morning refreshments.  During our meal, the staff was quite attentive to everyones needs.  They offered hot sauce and ketchup without even asking.  Now, most would voice their preference and moved on.  That, actually, quirked my eyebrow and caught my attention.  While this may seem like an assumption on behalf of the staff, I would say this is a stellar move.  Service at its finest.  They waited for a conversation to end or paused before jumping in with inquires about the meal or beverage.  For parking, we inquired if it was validated.  The head staff made his way to the front and spoke to the valet associate.  They provided validations for a few of us.  I over heard that this is normally not done since self parking is $25.  The individual didn't have to help us initially but took time to ensure our request was fulfilled.  He could have stated that the front office will help and be on his way.  If only I remembered this persons name.  This is merit worth mentioning.  Overall, it was pleasant experience all around.  With such service, I would consider recommending or even doing events here when the time comes. Staff - They were well trained but also genuine. Everyone I interacted with was kind and friendly. The check-in time was reduced thanks to Karin pulling me aside. I was not a special guest, but she made me feel like one.Hotel - The pool is very cool and there is a big water slide. There is also a quiet pool for adults. The hotel is not new, but this is good because it makes it a great value for the location. The Gym is very well equipped for a hotel and the location is great for running, beach activities, kayaking, and other fun water sports. There is even a small golf course on the hotel grounds. This is a great location to go to expensive restaurants or fun ones with kiddos.Value - Totally worth the price. You are not getting a super updated fancy hotel, but you are going to have a great time relaxing outside or around the area. More...

This place was adorable. There was an issue with the tv at one point(all the tv/wifi went out for a little bit one evening), but it came on without any issues shortly. My husband and I wanted to order Purge since we hadn't seen it yet but we couldn't order it from the tv and it directed us to call the front desk. Once we called the front desk to have them get the movie started, it was up in a few minutes. Kind of annoying, esp for a hotel like the Hyatt, but it wasn't a big deal. The reason for the four stars was because the room wasn't the cleanest when we entered and had to get someone to clean parts of it again and also because there was a ton of trees being cut down and it was annoying to walk to and from the car while hopping over tree branches. ‍ More...

First off by way of transparency I must state that I worked for Hyatt Hotels and Resorts for 20+ years before changing professions slightly and signing on in the Healthcare field.  That being said, I feel that I am leaving a balanced review here.Follow up before check in via email was great.  A new standard in the hotel industry, it opens the communication with the hotel and also informs you of the facility.  In this case it included a map of the hotel grounds and other relevant information.  Nicely done.Check in was great, friendly people and no wait in spite of doing so at peak time and many guests in the lobby.  Additional staff including the concierge jumped in to take care of myself and the other guests.  Overall the venue interior and exterior were clean and well-maintained.The room was very nice, large, open and appears to have been recently renovated.  It even smelled faintly of new materials.  Air conditioning worked great, the room was quiet and the hot water in the shower was just fine.  All basics, yes, but having been in the hotel business and having traveled all over the country, it is disappointing to discover that these basic facility items are often not up to standards.Parking is charged for but they have a system that uses your room key card to let you in and out of the self parking lot.Checkout was great as well and my folio was emailed to me before I left the lobby.  Front desk manager and staff on duty were very nice. There is a resort fee that needs to be factored into the total cost of the room so be aware when you are shopping about.  Again, I want to leave a balanced review here and this is important to know so that there are no surprises. Will I stay here again?  I certainly hope so. The staff are fantasticStayed 2 nights and busy schedule pre enter us from using amenities like relaxing by pool.Nearby Fashion Island Mall which includes restaurants for lunch & dinner.Walking past the gym on the last morning after breakfast I decided to try to squeeze in a few minutes there before returning to room to checkout.I had no idea an item dropped out of my bag ( maybe using key for entry? until that night when I was in San Diego.Daniel not only discovered my item after I reported it was left in my room which was the wrong location but assisted me with every step toreceive  it.First time I have ever forgotten or was unaware of losing something.Felix in the restaurant at breakfast was very welcoming and helpful re: menu items vs buffet and at dinner our male server originally from Liverpool (memory lapse name) ensured our entrees and wine resulted in a relaxing dinner on the patio after a long day at Catalina.Valet helpful with LYFT/ UBERto get to ferry and front desk staff helpful & efficient. We left our suitcases with front desk when we arrived and returned after dinner - no problems retrieving our bags to get to room No time to try pool on this trip but next time,  I think guests need to understand resort fee added to bill is for things like the shuttle service to & from Fashion Island Mall, gym, pools etc.I think they may have an airport shuttle but we did not fly to or from there. While I am yelping would recommend Sena Limo town cars for pick up and drop off We were picked up from Anaheim hotel to Hyatt Newport and from Hyatt to San Diego. We had my daughter's bat mitzvah celebration here and overall it was a positive experience.  We had used them before for my son's bar mitzvah 2 years ago and the coordinator before was much more with it than the current one.  What I mean is that we had to explain basic things that an event coordinator should know.  Things eventually got done and she was nice enough, but seemed inexperienced and unmotivated.  Furthermore, it appears that they have high turnover in this position as the coordinator we started with in planning changed this month, which was also disruptive because we had to explain things again that we thought had been arranged but apparently hadn't.  The food and service was spectacular and everyone had a fabulous time.  It's a beautiful place to stay and they are very accommodating. This was a pretty steady hotel. It's a relatively big property with a golf course attached to it. Check in and check out was a breeze. Was able to check in early on a Saturday. Balboa Island and Fashion Island are close enough to walk to if you want or you can rent a bike. A lot of things to keep your kids occupied. It is under a flight path but the airplane noises barely bothered me. It wasn't loud at all. I thought it would be worst base on the other reviews. Parking was also easy because there's a connecting pathwalk to our room. We we're facing the kid's pool so the kids had direct access to water whenever they felt like swimming. They even played a movie (Sing) around night time so the kids can watch while they take a dip. There's also a Jacuzzi. Rooms are a little outdated but the bed was comfortable. Bathroom is clean. They need to change the curtains though. Overall, it was a good time. More...

I have stayed at this hotel in the past and enjoyed it. This time, we just purchased a day pass that included a cabana rental for five of us at the Indulge pool. I would like to specifically cite the concierge Karin for her excellent caring service helping us figure out our confusing parking situation and also the pool server Maeve who was cheerful always. There were always pool towels, the pool was clean and so was the restroom. One drawback to self parking at this Hyatt is the self parking lot is at the bottom of a hill and you have a small hike to get up to the top, but not a huge issue. I am a Hyatt member and this is far from the most posh Hyatt I've ever stayed but the service was excellent and I will do this again. More...

Great choice for those who want more of a resort feel than a regular hotel. The room was quite comfortable, although typical of many hotel rooms. A manager stopped by right after we arrived in the room so he could double check a vent cover or something mechanical that had been noted about the room. It wasn't a bother to us. He was extremely professional and even fetched us some free water bottles for the inconvenience. The landscaping is nice. Lots of palm trees and other tropical plants give it a nice resort feel. Could have been a disaster!  Our arrival was not the best.  We were told our room was by the pool.  Not only was it not by the pool we had a room with the patio facing the parking lot!!  Since we had our two grandchildren that would not work! Plus we were not greeted by a friendly staff person but a very grumpy woman that I believe was almost done with her shift.  Quite a difference from our last stay here which we were treated like VIP`s.   I came back to the desk to try to change rooms and was greeted by wonderful Jacque.  Jacque was so sweet and helpful and took the time to find us the perfect room.  Because of her our stay has been wonderful.  Other than the unpleasant woman at the front desk the staff have been wonderful and friendly.  There is lots to do in a beautiful relaxed setting.  Great place for a family! Stayed 1 night at this Hyatt courtesy of Airbnb. Will be giving Airbnb a 5 star rating for their customer service. The front desk clerk was fantastic. He comped us 2 drinks at the bar (tapped beer was smooth) and reduced our parking fee. The hotel grounds are beautiful. The beds had 4 pillows and bed was comfortable. Our room had a view of golf course and pool. Wish we could have stayed longer to see music night and enjoy the patios. More...

It was my first time staying at this hotel and I will definateky be coming back. I love the relaxed atmosphere with all the beautiful landscaping greenery and flowers . There were plenty of little quaint areas to sit and enjoy the gorgeous weather and just reflect. Great view from our viranda. Short walk to self parking which we chose over valet. Fresh Starbucks available minutes from out room. Large area around the pool with different sizes and shaped loungers to lay back and literally fall asleep. Nice clean lobby and lobby restrooms. Amazing customer service! It's great for families. You can get bikes free of charge for up to two hours! I had a small issue at the gift shop, apparently it's leased to a non affiliated to Hyatt owners. (Bad customer service) I went to the lobby to make them aware. Jennifer was amazing and took care of the issue. Definitely will come back and actually might just have my wedding here since the have a beautiful set up.. More...

I have to say.. reading some of the reviews on this page made us hesitant to book our stay at this resort. I must say we had such a spectacular experience that I wanted to make a point to anyone who reads any reviews, that this Hyatt location is incredible.. it has a real family resort feel. We came here just my partner and I.. but we couldn't have enjoyed our stay anymore than we did. We had a room by luck with an incredible view of the bay, the room was recently renovated and didn't feel over the top, but had us feeling so cozy and at home. The balcony with views of the golf course and bay, were incredible and breathtaking. We were lucky enough to have live music as well that we were able to hear very clearly from across the bay.. it felt almost surreal. What an incredibly nice surprise. We will be coming here again. Wish I could give this resort an extra More...

This is a reasonable 4 star hotel. We were here for a little Memorial Day Weekend get away in Newport Beach. The property is in close proximity to many attractions that  the area has to offer. The grounds are well maintained for the most part scenic. It seems to be a resort with elements of a motel and hotel all in one. There are 4 buildings on the grounds and each has its own view and character based on the exterior. There are pools, an oversized chess board, tennis courts and a 9 hole golf course. They have free bike rentals and have shuttles that run every 2 hours to places like the Fashion Island Mall and Balboa Island. Their gym was decent size with great modern equipment and it was clean. Our room was in the Lido Building and from our window the view faced the golf course. It was clean and comfortable. Outside of our door was a nice view of the pool. It was your standard king-sized room experience that you'd get at a 4 star hotel. My issue with the room was how thin the walls seemed to be. We could hear our neighbor talking and in the morning I could hear planes flying overhead. Although we could hear him talking, once we fell asleep we rested well. The only reason I heard the planes in the morning was because of my excitement to get up and  out early. I am primarily deducting a star for the parking lot and the fact that they had a Cigar convention that permeated our room one night. I could easily take another star off for the cigarette smell but I know that it's not indicative of this place. For the parking lot the driveway to self parking can be somewhat dangerous as it's the only driveway/walkway to the spaces down the hill. It's $27 per night ($37 for valet) to walk down a hill with no real walkway to get to your car. You can't see the oncoming traffic until you make your turn using the opposite side of the roadway so not the biggest fan of the lot. Hotel is built on a hill so I'd suggest checking in luggage before parking.I still had a good experience at this hotel. From the staff to the food delivered from their restaurant Shor I would return. There are things that could be improved upon but I believe that this place is a decent value for what it was. More...

Nice hotel, not as luxurious as most but very nice nonetheless. Valet is a bit pricey but they do have the self park option for a lower daily rate. Grounds are nice, clean. The " older " part of the hotel does have a " motel " feel, I think they tried to stay with the original design of this hotel from years ago as much as possible.Friendly staff all around, including housekeeping very welcoming and accommodating. The in house restaurant was nice, good service, delicious burgers! The coffee bar in the morning was friendly but a bit pricey. More...

My family and I love visiting this hotel. It's a quick one hour drive and so we go often. We love the grounds and it's an easy get away. I was mildly disappointed this last visit, but I think I know now that I have to stay in the balboa building to get a room with a sofa bed. Im also hoping they change back to softer less crunchy sheets. We kept waking each other at night. The food and service are  mostly lovely here. Do not order a quesadilla at the pool (I wish I had remembered this time that they suck!) I guess when I order a Bloody Mary (which I probably do only twice a year) I feel a quesadilla is the right food match. I'm not sure how they mess up a quesadilla (but the chicken is just bad!). The grounds are lush and clean and lovely for wandering. There are 3 pool areas! I wish they'd redirect fams with little ones to the pool with the play area. I had to listen to a dad threatening his kid that he'd have to go inside if he kept yelling... honestly the dad was louder and more annoying than the kid playing... I wanted to say, "take your kid to the other pool and let him yell and enjoy" but he looked like he might be the type to slug me... anyway, maybe staff should monitor the quiet pools... you can take a shuttle to balboa island or fashion island (a really nice mall). Anyway, this place is a great mini vacay from LA. More...

We can't say enough about this beautiful, relaxing, and overall welcoming hotel! My family and friends stayed here as well as my now husband and I during this past weekend for our wedding. Most of the family traveled across the country to get here and were thrilled that they arrived at a hotel that treated them with such kindness and humility! The cocktail waitresses, bartenders, servers at the property restaurants were exceptional (all we encountered and I wish I could remember all their names but I had some serious wedding brain). Each person that took care of us, did just that, took great CARE. It was a great feeling to receive texts from our friends and family throughout their stay letting us know that they had wonderful service at lunch in the restaurant, drinks at the lobby bar, etc. Mind you, there were THREE other wedding groups staying on property, including a wedding directly ON property. Somehow it never felt crowded! My hilarious Aunt from New Jersey was literally invited to the wedding taking place there! Everyone was getting along so well. I am certain it had a great deal to do with the kind staff. I would like to mention that Brenden (he told me to say the Australian to remember him) was AMAZING! I had to call him the night before my wedding with a couple favors and he accommodated with such grace, I was so appreciative of him! Everyone needs front desk staff like Brenden. The new Outlet Manager Roxana has a heart of gold and made a point of introducing herself to some of our wedding guests, making sure their needs were being met during their stay. Your property is BEYOND lucky to have her! If you are having a large event in the Orange County, I would recommend having friends and family stay at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach. Thank you from a happy bride!! More...

We loved our stay at this hotel!  Great staff and customer service throughout our whole stay.  My husband and I stayed here for a few nights.  Check-in was great, we were there a couple of hours hourly for check-in but they got us a room right away.  When we arrived at our room, turns up there was a mix-up and the room actually wasn't ready yet.  The bell person, Dave, was on it right away.  He called down and got us another room nearby immediately.  The manager called us soon thereafter to make sure everything was ok and to apologize for the problem.Everyone was super friendly and I give special thank you to the valet and bell staff!  These guys are awesome!  Front desk and management were great as well.  Can't wait to find an opportunity to stay at this hotel again! Great location in Newport Beach. Just a few miles from Balboa Island and Fashion Island. Everyone was friendly and very helpful. Everything is nice and clean and most rooms seem to be newly remodeled. If you ask nicely, they will upgrade your room depending on availability. Self Park: $25 a nightThis specific Hyatt Hotel includes many awesome amenities. Two pools, fitness room, party venue, restaurant and a coffee bar/alcohol bar. Plenty of room to hangout and just relax. Room service was available 24/7 and they offer lots of complimentary items! In case you forget to pack vacation essential, let the front desk know and most likely they have it. We forgot toothpaste. We simply called the front desk and they brought one at no charge. Overall, I had a great stay! Good quality service goes a long way. If the price is right, I will definitely be coming back. I really want to use the pool slide next time. More...

Completely forgetting that I had hung my jacket up in the closet, I checked out and left without it. I did not realize I had done so until a week later. I get that the prices are higher because of the location but the full size beds are a bit of a bummer. I didn't even realize that hotels had full size beds these days.  The room was clean however and the staff were very helpful.  I'm glad that I read the reviews about parking, it is expensive but the walk is not machu picchu like some would make it out to be.  Since I knew ahead of time that it was going to be a walk uphill I dropped my bags off first then parked.  Normally I drive everywhere so the walk was welcomed.  The best part of our stay was that my daughter left a library book and when we called housekeeping they mailed it at no cost to us and it came just a few days later.  We are so grateful for that service and how kind and prompt they were.  Thank you Hyatt Newport Beach! Great location for upscale hotel!  I'm a frequent business traveler and have seen it all relative to hotel standards.  This one is at the top of my list. If your looking for very friendly service...this is the place.  If your looking for large and clean rooms...this is the place.  Shuttle service to and from SNA airport also to Fashion Island which is very close and has great local restaurants and ritzy shopping.  Restaurant recommendation for Sushi lovers...Roku which is in the heart of fashion island.  Go for the jalapeño tuna roll...yowza!!! Hotel bike rental...no fee...good bikes too for a nice spin around the bay which is just out the back gate of the resort...beautiful view with wonderful wildlife. Nine hole par three on site also.  It's fun and laid back. Don't expect to much except a good time. $3 club fee for a putter and lob-wedge.  Very casual.  Shuffle board or a good work-out at the fitness center might be in order after consuming a few calories at the bar or Starbucks (also on site).  Fitness center is very well equipped and clean. Watch for kids though...they shouldn't be aloud in there. I pulled a bar bell off a boys neck that was in there goofing around...nice kid though.  Just not sure where his parents were. Driving distance to Disney, Getty museum, Porsche experience, Queen Mary, Reagan Library and more!Ohhh yeah...if you want to get really fancy, you can rent a Porsche, Harley or other exotic vehicles on site!Like I said...great hotel...great location and great service.  Until next time... I came to this Hyatt for a conference for work and I have to say I really enjoyed it! I love the fact that it wasn't a high-rise. High-rises are so impersonal. I stayed in the Balboa building and it was comfortable and very welcoming. My room was large! Way  larger than I expected! I had a king size room with a balcony that overlooks the golf course. I asked for early check in and was able to get into my room at 11 AM. This was awesome considering I woke up at 2:30 AM to make my flight. I was able to relax before the conference which was worth it's weight in gold! The front desk could not do enough for me. Anything I needed, they had and gave it to me quickly. I needed mouthwash and it was at my room within two minutes. The housekeeping staff was phenomenal! The grounds were very clean as were the rooms. The van driver who would take you to the airport or to fashion island or Balboa Island was friendly and helpful! I ordered room service the first night because I was so tired and it was excellent. My company had their holiday party at the Hyatt Regency in Newport Beach this year. They had rented out the Plaza ballroom which was an offshoot building on the property. Our Sr. Executive Admin had been busy planning this party for months. The ballroom was beautifully decorated and included an video game arcade area for the kids, in addition to making use of the outdoor patio. There were warmers on the patio to keep off the chill and a photo booth set up. The seating inside was more intimate with couches and small holiday touches. It was very much like a wedding reception. The DJ and dance floor were set up in the main ballroom. The food was served buffet-style with filet mignon medallions, baked chicken breast, roasted brussels sprouts and butternut squash, potatoes gratin, white cheddar mac & cheese with bacon, fresh ricotta ravioli, 2 types of salad, crab chowder, ceviche cups, and a dessert bar. I very much enjoyed the food. There was a kids buffet set up in the arcade area. Oh and did I mention it was open bar? We had a designated martini bar, a beer & wine bar, plus a cocktail bar with well alcohol. The staff was on top of it. Everyone I encountered was very nice and hospitable. Parking was $10 after validation but we paid at the gate. It was an awesome party to end the year on a high note. Thanks to the staff at the Hyatt Regency for a wonderful evening. More...

Review is for the venue for an event that was held on the property.I was a guest for a company holiday party and I was in aww of the layout of the Plaza Ballroom. This ballroom is located outside of the hotel on a totally separate building. From what I had seen, it seems as if there are multiple ballrooms set up this way. Aesthetically the grounds looked beautiful and glam from just the little I had seen. There was a pretty little water fountain that I passed by on the way over to the entrance. The entrance lead to an open area that had white linen covered tables spreaded out and upfront were two bars nicely set up. It's a  good size space that was fully set up for a party. At first I thought that was the extent of it. Tray passed apps were being offered by friendly servers. Apps presented looked and were appetizing. A few moments in, I realized that the entry to the building inside was open. As it turns out, this was all part of the venue that was rented out for the event. It had the main area that also had another room connecting to it. The main room was pretty stunning. Nice ceiling lightings and very modern and lounge-y with white comfy seats. Tables had holiday center pieces and candles. The room had a festive but classic decor. A dance  area was set to the side but that you can still hear the music all throughout. There were also a few  small dining tables that you can sit if once it was time to eat. The other room was super cool. It was used as the kids or family room that had a few old school arcades! If I wasn't too busy drinking and eating, I would of just stayed over there. As for the food, the company choice a buffet, all you can eat. A variety of options along with dessert. Quality of food was good for a hotel for these types of situations. This isn't a review of a restaurant so I won't go into deets too much. The ravioli was delish and so was the squash. Chicken and steak though decent was a bit overcooked for my liking. Dessert well the red velvet mini I enjoyed...twice. ;) More...

Currently staying at this hotel. I'm a Hyatt Discoverist member and really enjoy the Hyatt Regency Hotels. I was excited when I arrived here, but noticed the same type of bug continuously showing up in my bathroom. I found 6 at one time in my first room. The front desk got me a new room and I still found the same bug. Not sure where these are popping up from, but these hotel rooms  needs to be sprayed. I contacted front desk again and they told me they would send housekeeping up to try and spray my room. I'm really grossed out and disgusted, but figure these bugs are in all the hotel bathrooms so think it's pointless to switch rooms again. Updated review 10/31/17Hyatt was great about contacting me and apologizing for the bugs. They also waived my resort fees from the prior stay. I'm here again for work and the staff was very accommodating to put me in a different building. Haven't seen any bugs this time around and have received great customer service. More...

I had the privilege of attending a two day family reunion event at this lovely Hyatt resort. Pulling off the coast highway and into the resort grounds I was dumbfounded - What a sight for sore eyes. Paying Valet Parking wasn't exactly my forte but it was better than walking up that massive hill for Self-Parking in dress clothes on a warm Summer day. Though I was not technically a guest and only on sight to attend the two-day event, the staff treated us exactly the same with kindness and over the top support. My boyfriend and I toured the grounds and found out, not only does the hotel have an incredible fast-speed waterslide but it also provides a free golfing opportunity for guests AND has life sized Chess. We decided it was probably best we did not stay here because we would have never left that chess game.  In touring the grounds we also saw beautiful, well kept jungle like plants, dessert styled designs, beachy themed decor, and many more games and activity options for guests. Basically, you won't want to leave the hotel once checking in so forget all your other vacation plans. We were famished after a long walk and multiple games of chess and decided to dine at the bar despite the high prices and minimal menu options. Boy, were we surprised to find that the margarita flatbread and chicken quesadilla here would be the best meals we had all weekend. Even the espresso was quality taste! I still dream of that fresh tomato and basil on the flatbread - Best mini pizza ever. The events themselves were also top notch. Their event staffing was always on point, switched courses in perfect timing, got the vegetarian and regular requests all correct, made sure things stayed clean, and set the presentation to be such a beautiful sight. Would absolutely recommend having your events here based off my experiences with the decor and staff! More...

We stayed at the hotel for a short mini-vacation and it was really great. I had an incredible stay st the Hyat Regency Newport Beach. Loved the balcony and pool view. Gorgeous conference facilities. (We came in for the Xyngular Conference). The food was incredible (though management should have more staff on the Starbucks/ walk up breakfast counter- especially when there is a convention in town). Beautiful grounds and pool area, short walk to a beach area on the bay with full water sports, pleasant front desk staff. Clean adequately equipped fitness Centre (yes I used it everyday). Great music in the lobby bar on Friday evening. Great gift shop! Great location! More...

We had a day pass and cabana for the day only. The pool area is pretty awesome!! Very kid friendly. Splash pad, huge water slide, putting green, table tennis, jacuzzi and obviously the pool. There were 2 other pool areas we didn't make it too. Great guacamole and reasonably priced (for a resort) adult beverages. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was due to the understaffing of the wait staff. More...

Came here for a work conference. Our room was right in front of the pool which was nice. The bathroom set up was odd, and the bed was a bit on the hard (form) side. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5. Prime location and the food was OUTSTANDING!!! Seriously, we have conferences twice a year at hotels all over the country, the food here was 5 star!! Nice resort with friendly staff from the minute you park your greeted by a smile from the valet staff. Check in was pain less, fast and easy. Lounge was nice and open with plenty of seating and a decent selection of drinks. Servers were all great wish I remembered their names. Pools were clean but alittle crowded but again the staff was great, they walked around continuously asking if we wanted fresh towels or a drink. Decor could have used a few more Stars and Stripes being that were there around the 4th of July other than that it was a great experience. More...

We had a great time at Hyatt Regency ! Everything was great , very classy nice clean Hotel! Our family was at Newport Dunes and this hotel was perfect location to meet up with them So many activities for families , adults, kids !The best part is they allow you to bring your dog . The only - is the self parking for $27 a day that was a little steep and they get upset if you try to unload your car in front ,they yelled at my daughter in law Hey !Hey! Hey-cant park there !!!! geez calm down and chased her down when I turned to ask young man (valet ) if it was OK to Self Park for 10 minutes or would we be charged he completely ignored me and turned around and walked away that was my only downfall Of the entire trip ,( you can park on the curb in front of Newport Dunes entrance for free )& walk through pkg lot . I thought he was rude , everyone else's car was on the front curb ..it was for literally 4 min she had a baby a stroller etc ...she just needed to take her stuff to the curb of the first rooms in Balboa building ! .other than that . I had a great time over the weekend at the Hyatt for Mother's Day weekend. The hotel was able to check us in early at 10am and place my two other friends in rooms close by. To get the early check in we did have to forfeit a king size bed for 2 full size, but I was ok with that. The pool area was nice. Super kid friendly. The drinks and food was delicious. The options for pool side food was average. Some of the options were Quesadillas, sandwiches, hummus, burger, shrimp cocktail. It seems like the typical pool food. There was only one pool staff available that day working 3 pool areas so ordering did take a while. Hopefully they hire more pool staff for the summer. The Mother's Day Brunch was superb. I believe it was $85 pp for AYCE and bottomless mimosas. The options seemed limitless. To name a few, there were crab legs, shrimp cocktails, pork loin, sushi, chocolate fondue, cheese table, assorted fish fillet, waffle table, and so much more. The price for one night's stay wasn't too bad either. About $170-200 I believe. I purchased it with points so I can't remember exactly. The Hyatt was a great location for all my friends to get together since we all live in separate cities. I would stay here again. More...

Beautiful hotel in a great location! Friendly staff and knowledgeable about the area. Only thing that could be improved was regular pool clean up. Towels and old drinks from prior guests were all over when we arrived at the pool, in almost every spot. We were there two hours and no one ever came by to check in or clean up. I thought that was odd and left a damper on an otherwise gorgeous pool area. They had an amazing spa and clean and sparkling pool! Small section that had beach chairs and sand, which was very nice. The whole area was surrounded by beautiful palms and shady trees. We stayed in a premiere suite and it was very spacious and well located! Tub was a little dirty but everything else was decent. The resort looked very pretty at night and had pretty archways, lights and fire pits. It was family friendly but mostly adults, which made it cozy and quiet. More...

As a long time Hyatt Diamond (now Globalist) member, I choose Hyatt properties for many of my travels.  I took my family (along with another family -- 9 total) to Newport Beach for an 8 day spring break. The crew at Newport really went above and beyond -- Ashley welcomed me with a vodka/soda and we jumped right in and enjoyed the pool & shuffleboard.  At breakfast each morning at SHOR, Barbara greeted us with a smile and we were treated with impeccable service from Jessica, Felix and Juan at SHOR.  Chloe helped arrange some dinners, as we celebrated both wives bdays back to back at Bayside and Javier's -- both amazing.  Also had some great amenities sent to the room by Barbara and Chloe for the bdays!!A great trip made even better by amazing Hyatt service.  Kudos HRNP! Our wedding was 3/25/17 and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. We worked with Christeen Orr, who was professional, friendly, and efficient throughout the entire process. She is quick with email responses and also helped us when there were random and at times, last- minute snafus. The Hyatt amphitheater where we had our ceremony, just got remodeled, and everything was so lush and green! Having guests transfer from ceremony here to ballroom for receptionwas so easy. The ballroom is a ballroom but once transformed with draping and decor was gorgeous and comfortably housed our 300 guests. Overall experience was smooth, grounds were beautiful, and it was easy for guests to find the venue and be comfortable at this venue. Hyatt team is great to work with and I definitely recommend! So this is not a 5-star hotel but their service certainly is. Can't go wrong with this hotel. The one and only thing is somewhat odd is the location of their parking lot. It feels like Disneyland, where the parking is so far from the the majority of the rooms. Nice room and they gave an upgrade, just ask, you never know.  Front desk girl was very friendly and got us checked in quickly.BIG downside was the ($27) self parking.  It's an uphill trek after you park. But there is a little covered area with a phone to call for a cart to pick you up. My suggestion, drive to the front when you get there and tell the valet guys you are going to self park and check in.  They let you park your car there so you can check in.  Drive to the self parking area.  Unload your stuff at the covered area and call for the cart.  Have the driver take you to your room.  Glad we did, our room was at the back of the resort. Remember to tip the driver a couple of bucks. There is a $20 resort fee, that pays for the internet.  We used the putting green for about 30 minutes (that was fun) and borrowed the bikes for an hour and rode down to the Back Bay Trail behind the resort. This was a nice ride and worth doing.  Didn't use the pools since it was cold and windy.  There is also a huge chess set outside.  Breakfast Buffet ($26) was worth it since there was such an abundance of different stuff to try.  You can order off the menu too but for the price of the buffet,  it was a better deal. HOTEL CALIFORNIAA tastefully upscale Hyatt in Orange County that doesn't break the bank.It wasn't my choice to stay here, as I was merely piggybacking on LeAnn P's business trip, though I enjoyed the hotel nonetheless.  This property is more spread out and less vertical (i.e. not a highrise building), which I'm on the fence about.  I generally prefer not having a room on the ground floor, but the accommodations were more than adequate so I didn't mind. The concierge was friendly when I checked in for a room key pickup.  Either I was in a daze from the 4hr flight (quite possible) and acting generally oblivious.....or they never told me what the room number was!  Without an indicator on the keycard, I had to go back to the front desk and ask "where the hell am I going", which was as awkward as is sounds.Room was nice.  Amenities were up to snuff and I experienced no issues with the appliances: TV, mini fridge, wireless internet worked just fine.  Linens were changed in a timely fashion and there was a sliding glass door that led to a small porch overlooking the scenic parking lot.  They doubled up on the curtains so almost no outside light could sneek through.  When the room was dark, it was pitch freaking BLACK, which made for a great night's sleep.Craig at the hotel bar gave me a free brewski (a Coors light, so it probably cost them a nickel, but hey), a gesture that was appreciated but altogether unnecessary.  He was also cool enough to whip up a custom cucumber cocktail for Miss LeAnn P, which we both agreed he nailed.  Massive props to you, my man!An odd thing happened when my travel partner requested some coffee creamer, as there was none in the room.  She was told that it would be an extra charge even though small items like that were listed as complimentary, so someone along the line gave her misinformation and it cost them a star.I can't comment on the hotel's restaurant/food, but I will say that the outdoor patio area had a lovely decorative fire going and the seating for guests was comfy.  Great way to unwind after a long day of doing whatever.Solid place that seems reasonably priced (again, just guessing here).  My three nights' stay here was pleasant, so yeah, I suppose I'd recommend this Hyatt to others. Our family just enjoyed our 4th or 5th annual stay here and I think it has gotten better each time. Staff is very friendly. It's a modest resort by Hyatt standards, but the pool area with the ping pong table and hot tub is very popular with our young kids. They also loved the free cookies at the front desk and the cups for unlimited soft drinks or milk from the lobby bar. The golf course is great if you want to teach your little kids the game or just practice your short game. The breakfasts at the onsite Shor restaurant were consistently excellent, especially a la carte items versus the buffet. Self parking is fairly convenient. At check in, they offered to reduce the resort fee from $29 (I think) to $10 and the self parking fee from $27 to $10. This made quite a difference after a five night stay which I really appreciated. Perhaps as we are Hyatt Gold Passport members, they provided free USA Today and WSJ each morning. The rooms are relatively spacious but a little drafty.  Noise and privacy can sometimes be a little problem because people are often walking past your room to get to theirs.  However, we choose a room that overlooks the kids pool so there is foot traffic. If you want a more private experience, they have rooms that afford that. The heater is loud and we needed to have it cranked on high all night to stay warm. The bathrooms are ok; nicely stocked but low a ceiling in the shower detracts a little bit. More...

The hotel is beautiful, by the way. We attended the Brian Culbertson concert and loved it.....but....for the price I paid, I wasn't happy with the seating at all. We were on row S and once everyone had their seats, we couldn't see anything. We spent the whole time on our tiptoes just to see the stage lights above or walking around to try and get a glimpse of the stage. We could have stayed outside by the bar and not paid for the tickets. We had not been to a concert here before, so we weren't familiar with the setting. It was for my husband's birthday and he loves Brian Culbertson's music. As much as we enjoyed the music, I don't think we'll be returning if that's the standard seating. More...

This review is long over due! I use to live in Newport so I am readily familiar with the hotel and have watched it go through numerous ups and downs.  This review isn't so much for the hotel as it is for the wonderful employees who work at the Hyatt Newport, all who get 5 stars.I was in town for a funeral in June, and as most funerals are it was a last minute trip.  Helene at the front desk was very helpful and accommodating, helping me to secure lodging on a Hyatt Newporter Jazz weekend!  She understood I wanted as much peace and quiet as one could get given the circumstances and set me up in a quiet room away from the festivities. Barbara, the hostess in the SHOR restaurant, went above and beyond what was necessary to make sure my every need was attended to that weekend.  Her vivacious personality was greatly appreciated as were the many kindnesses she extended over the weekend.  Barbara is a very gracious hostess, and a considerable asset to the Hyatt Newporter. PROS:Excellent service from Manon at the front desk and Ariane at concierge. Thanks for making my husband's birthday stay at your hotel special!*Wonderful experience with reservations and help from Manon at the front desk for assisting me with booking the right room. I told her we were arriving early and were pleasantly surprised our room was ready when we arrived. She is so sweet and pleasant to deal with.*Ariane at concierge went above and beyond and helped me with getting balloons and decorating our room for my husbands birthday. The butter cake was delicious and the signed card from hotel staff was nice. She also gave restaurant recommendations and set our reservation. She was a pleasure to work with.*The pool at the Balboa building was a nice place to relax and hang out. I loved the hammock, lounge chairs, fire pit where we roasted smores, the pool and hot tub, and the music playing in the background.*The oasis pool was a fun place where they have a small splash pad with water guns and a slide. They also had a ping pong table and cornhole game in the corner. On Saturday night they had a movie by the pool. There was also a shuffleboard and giant chess near the entrance of the hotel. Perfect for families.*The bar by the lobby is a coffee bar in the morning and an alcoholic bar or lounge at night.*Nicely decorated library, lots of sitting areas inside and outside.*Complimentary round of golf, bike rentals for 2 hours, and beach chairs and umbrellas for the beach. We enjoyed golf and the bikes but did not have the chance to check out the beach chairs and umbrellas.*Nearby Newport Beach back bay and Newport Dunes. We were able to bike ride at the Back Bay and Paddleboard at Newport Dunes.*Complimentary shuttle to the airport, Fashion Island and Balboa. Although we did not use the shuttle but Lyft instead to go to the restaurants.*Valet employees were all friendly and also provided great customer service.*If you have special requests, you can ask for it on their website.CONS:*There were no bathrobes or slippers like plenty of other hotel rooms we've been to.*Rooms can still use more updating. I recently stayed at Pasea Hotel and Pelican Hill and so it was quite a bit of let down when I saw the room. Room prices during weekdays are fine but we paid a higher price since it was Labor Day weekend.*The shower curtain is not long enough to cover the tub.*The roll away bed is very uncomfortable. You could feel the hard springs while laying down. We had to ask them to bring a top for it so my daughter could be more comfortable.*The cleaning crew needs to pick up used towels and trash more often from the pool areas and sitting areas. *The pool near the Balboa building need to be cleaned more often because of debris from the surrounding trees.*When we were playing shuffle board two large palm tree branches just fell on the ground and almost hit us. Someone could have been hurt from that.Overall we had a wonderful stay at the Hyatt in Newport Beach because of the service from several of the employees and the various amenities they offer. We will back for the Smokey Robinson concert. More...

We have had an amazing couple days here! The staff has been great and made my daughters bday really special with a surprise cake as well as smores  packages that we made by the fire-pit. The pools are great and rooms comfy . Only negative is food cost and high service charge for delivery. A cup of coffee at breakfast was almost 5 bucks. We will be back however . It's been a great visit ! More...

Thank you Ashley,The Hyatt was extremely kind and professional about it and, like I said, repaired the damage. Thank you so much. If I'm correct, the Valet is actually a company hired by the Hyatt, not part of the Hyatt. So actually I give the hotel 5 stars for all they did to fix the situation. Thanks again and I will definitely stay there again. Kirk More...

My husband and I was a bit frustrated with the room we were put in due to arriving later evening, especially for a prepaid room. The AC was not cooling the room and we could swear every cricket in the world was chirping at our doorstep it was so annoyingly loud. A light cricket chirp is normally soothing, but this loud constant chirping was enough to trigger a migraine headache...mixed with being hot, not a good thing. I couldn't sleep. We were located on the lower level nearest the self parking lot, but right under the stairwell. I have to say this is the worst room. Not only do you hear everything outside the room from guests to staff walking outside our door, but also anyone using the stairwell, ice machine or vending machine--just an FYI.At 7am, I called the Manager for some help and he was heaven sent. He assured us we could be put into a new room as soon as possible. We were relieved. My husband left for Business mtg and I grabbed breakfast. As soon as I returned, I was given a ride up to the new room with all our luggage. The bellman was a delightful older gentleman that was a pleasure conversing with during the relocation. Thank you for caring and solving our problem promptly and with ease for a pleasant stay. More...

Manon at the front desk, all of the valet, Erick, the Shor staff Julio truly awesome!  I give them 5 stars!!!  Wish I could give them more.  They were attentive, remembered why I was here, never had to look for the staff for anything & love the grounds.  I can't say more w/o sounding super cheesy. The pool awesome, especially for kids.  Hot tub, super hot like I like it w/ powerful jets.  The fire pit & grounds above the pool at night are cozy & some nights they have jazz, etc.  My ONLY complaint is that my room was 410 & both mornings of my stay the cleaning crew started at like 6am & it was loud down on the first floor.  I'm not sure if the other floors are better, but I didn't complain cause I thought this morning would be different.  It wasn't.  Someone actually hit the door so it sounded like they were knocking as they were cleaning. Overall, yes I would stay here again!  My friends are diamond so got me the stay on the points so will sign up for that as well. More...

This weekend we stayed here to celebrate our anniversary. It was nice and clean. Check in was quick and we were able to check in early, which was a plus. We stayed on the third floor of the main building. From our room we had a view of one of the pools. We decided to spend time in the pool with the big slide. The only bummer was that it was closed for the night, but that pool was big. We chose this hotel because it was near the beaches we wanted to go to! There happened to be a wedding that weekend, but at least their music was bearable. The night time chill spots on the property were very nice as well. The grounds were well kept, but self parking was down a big hill. Being 9 months pregnant that was a bummer. Good thing you can call from the self parking and a cart will come pick you up and take you where you need to go. Self parking was $27 a night! We had purchased a pizza elsewhere and it got cold. As we were coming in that night I asked the front desk where I could microwave something and he said he'd send a microwave to our room. I was impressed! The next day when we were going to leave a housekeeper kept knocking on our door. When we responded we thought she'd leave, but she kept knocking?! When my husband opened the door she was surprised and apologized, but it was an inconvenience. Almost made us feel like we should have been gone when we still had a few more hours until check out. Regardless we would still recommend this hotel. More...

This definitely an older resort. Our room was on the first floor with a patio that face the garden and volleyball court. It is great to sit out there to enjoy the fresh air. On our last night the kids were asleep so my husband and I wanted to sit outside on the patio. Unfortunately there wasn't a light out there. We were hoping to finish our dinner leftover out there but couldn't see what we were eating. The report garden was the best part of the place. Definitely made us feel like we were on a tropical island instead of just down the street from a busy loud city. More...

Love this hotel!-from the moment we checked in we received great service! Amanda at the front desk made sure we got everything we wanted regarding our rooms, Ans our bellman Ryan was awesome! -we didn't like our first room, so they switched us and our second room was perfect and beautiful. Our balcony overlooks the golf course and the room is clean, comfortable, and inviting. -the gym is extremely important to me. While it isn't huge, they provide treadmills, spin bikes, ellipticals, free weights, and a few other cardio and weight machines. Everything works and you can get in a solid workout. -the grounds are well kept and beautiful. The pools are clean and fun, and the giant chess set as well as the shuffleboard game are fun to play. -in room dining as well as the lobby bar/grill and shor restaurant provide great food. More...

We had our wedding in June 2016 at the Hyatt. Our ceremony and reception were both outside and it couldn't have been more perfect! The venue was clean, inviting, and special! Christeen and all of the Hyatt employees that we worked with couldn't have been nicer! They were friendly from day one when we did a walk through of the venue. She took an interest in us as a couple and did everything she could to best accommodate us, our families, and guests. From the delicious food tasting, to the vendor recommendations, and the day of attention to details, our wedding day was beyond perfect, in large part to the organization and expertise of those at the Hyatt. Weeks later and we are still reflecting on what a magical evening it was and how thankful we were to have selected the Hyatt! We highly recommend this venue for your wedding! More...

This hotel was very lovely. We only stayed 2 nights between flights from Hawaii and Texas, but I was pleasantly surprised how nice this hotel was. We loved the Oasis pool area. Spent the majority of our time there lounging. Our kids loved it too! Our room was near the Serenity pool a bit far from the Oasis pool, but still a nice location with our balcony looking out onto golf course. Room was a bit small for a family of 4, but for just two nights it was ok. The staff was very nice and helpful, the food was good poolside and we could't have asked for a better stay! The Hyatt in Newport Beach is my favorite hotel! Grandparents and families will have a great time here. Lots to do: shuffle board, giant Chess set ,swimming pools, hot tubs, one pool has a waterslide another pool has a large sand box type area in the shade, ping pong, Dive in movie PMS, (they have kids activities next to waterslide pool, paint faces, beads and artwork), also a par 3 golf course and bicycles. Now I can say- all my grandkids have tried golfing. We would like to thank all the staff at the Hyatt in Newport Beach for making our stay perfect. This hotel is in an excellent location and was mostly a good experience. The front desk employees are a huge weak link. The self parking is a long walk away and when we checked in, the girl didn't tell us shed need to program our room key to access the lot, resulting in frustration and wasted time. When we checked out, the girl didn't remind us to keep our room key so we could get our car out of the lot, again wasting time and causing us frustration. The front desk people didn't look up when we approached and acted like we were an interruption. Not OK!The room needs updating and there were bugs in the bathroom. I think that this Hyatt is really borderline between a 3 and 4 star hotel.  Here are the pros:- Great location- about a mile from the beach, balboa island, and fashion island.- Inside of rooms are modern, spacious, nicely decorated.  The bathroom looked brand new.  I think we might have been the first people to use the shower. -Staff (housekeeping and bellmen) were very friendly and helpful. Cons:- Parking was expensive, and the lot is pretty far away.  Getting around the hotel is confusing, as there aren't a lot of signs telling you where to park or check in. - Rooms are all outside, like a motel. Which this property apparently used to be.  This can be kind of a fun beachy thing, but it means it's more noisy.- Our door didn't shut all the way, so it was very noisy whenever people were around. Maybe you could get a room away from the pools if this concerns you, but we weren't that smart. Overall the room was beautiful and up to date.  It had COLD air conditioning which is so nice. Inside the room and inside the lobby, this is definitely a solid 4 star hotel.  Outside, including the pool area, this is a 3 star.  We had a very restful night's sleep, regardless of all the loud people. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this venue. We worked with Christeen Orr, who was beyond accommodating when we made several changes throughout the planning process. She was quick to respond to our many emails and phone calls, and went above and beyond to help us feel comfortable and enjoy ourselves! The venue itself is beautiful, and our guests had so much fun celebrating with us! We were able to enjoy the garden space, including s'mores at the fire pit, as well as host a small reception in the wine cellar, which I would highly recommend for those with small groups. The Hyatt also has so many awesome places to take pictures, which we and our guests enjoyed! Highly, highly recommended. More...

This Hyatt Regency is certainly a lovely hotel.   We stayed here mid-week, in a back room overlooking the golf course, which was quiet.  Many rooms face the pool or portico for the lobby.  I would give this hotel a "5" star except that the towels were just a little better than at a Motel 6 (which I stayed at years ago and haven't because of their towels, and other reasons too).  I figured this first class hotel would have lush, fluffy towels.  They were thin. I got sick soon apon arrival and when calling room service (as i asked for ginger ale and crackers) the lady at the front was caring and sent up the food along with fruit on the house. Very mixed feelings about this hotel even though it's one of our standards.Pros:- Absolutely fantastic for kids. There are three pools and the kid-friendly one has an awesome water slide that is manned by an employee so that your kids don't do anything too crazy. They also have water squirting structures, too.- French fries and a grilled cheese is just $5. Best deal ever, poolside. Makes up for their $14 adult beverages. - Service is usually excellent. Super nice staff all around.- You can rent bikes for free and this property is situated right on the Back Bay.- Hyatt Diamond at Shor restaurant is worth $68 which is generous. You can get a decent buffet or pick from the menu. - Love their new filtered water machine! Choose from sparking, still (cold or room temp). Every hotel should have this feature and get rid of bottled water!!Cons:- The rooms are small. For such a large property, you'd think they'd expand the rooms a bit. They are updated with new furnishings so the decor is cute. The bathrooms are also oddly giant as compared to the sleeping area. If you're looking for a room with two beds, just know that you'll get a double, not a queen. - As a Hyatt Diamond member, I've stayed here 4+ times and have never been upgraded. This location is wedding central so I think upgrades are rare.- Holy fees! There is a resort fee (which is sometimes waived, sometimes not for us) and a $25 parking fee. That's an extra $50 a day! This is an amazing location to have a wedding. When we were reviewing all different places in southern California, we fell in love with this place instantly. We got married in the Plaza Ballroom and it was a beautiful wedding. All of our guests commented on how elegant the ballroom and the outside arbor were. It really helped set the tone for our reception. The ceremony area within the Hyatt property is also incredible. The services provided on the day of our wedding was also very professional and top notch. Again, our guests and families kept complimenting us on the beautiful location. Most importantly. we couldn't have such an unforgettable day without the Hyatt's liaison/coordinator Christeen. She was truly committed to carrying out our vision for our wedding day, was incredibly available and reachable, and was very flexible to work with. Of the many vendors involved in our wedding, I believe Christeen will be the most unforgettable person as we reflect on our experiences. This score is for hotels for business travelers.  Over the course of a year and a half my boyfriend and I stayed in four of the hotels in this area for business.  We stayed at: Hilton at John Wayne, Irvine Marriott, Hyatt Regency Newport Beach, and Westin Costa Mesa.  We stayed at the Hyatt Regency for about two and a half months.Pros: Located blocks from the beach, and blocks from Fashion Island you are close to so many great restaurants and places.  They have TONS of family activities, a golf course, bikes to ride on the property and nearby areas, pool games, family programs, concerts, and very popular happy hours.  This hotel caters mostly to families--cookies at check in, and lots of kids activities.   They also have a huge list of complimentary items that they keep on site in case you forgot something. (To borrow or have---things like razor, sewing kit, steamer) They also have a large mini fridge in the room.It seems they are trying to also branch out and cater to business travelers.  For a while they were offering free breakfast and free use of the resort amenities to Platinum rewards members.  They were also waiving the resort fee, and would allow you to partake in Platinum match challenges from other hotels. They also included 2 meals complimentary for breakfast each morning.  The breakfast was our favorite among all of the hotels we stayed at and the service was always great during the early morning hours. I am not sure if they are still doing this, or if it is year round, but during the winter this was the case.  Cons:Check in on Saturdays is chaotic, just like most beach resorts.  There was no solid door on the bathrooms, the just accordion style door. The hotel at times also felt a little dated.  Finally the hotel is VERY spread out.  If you are staying as a group ask to stay near each other.  Also the walk from the parking lot to your room could take up to 15 minutes.  Parking is not included.  Valet can get swamped so we usually self parked.  Unloading the car with our bags was a headache when the rooms were so far away.  We usually requested rooms near the parking lot and close to the exit by the pool. We had a great time with celebrating our wedding at the Hyatt! Christine and the entire staff made sure the event went off smoothly and the ballroom really looked great. The reception staff was excellent as was the hotel staff who made us feel like bride and groom. The ceremony area is beautiful at this hotel and was a big reason we chose it. As with any venue, it is very important to read through the contract in detail and make sure everything is covered and spelled out up front. Once signed, very challenging to make changes. More...
