Stopped by for a quick lunch. I was treated to several tasty dishes and excellent service. Highly recommend but the chocolate baklava was to die for and I didn't share.

Amazing food! For the price you pay, you get a sizeable main dish, soup, salad (not bagged lettuce), and piping hot bread (reminds me of my fave paratha but more doughy). The staff was extremely attentive and kind as well. Definitely dress well, we were slightly unprepared in that arena (we were in casual clothing) but the staff didn't make us feel weird about it so that was nice :) More...

Recently, my brother and I enjoyed a Saturday afternoon lunch at the Hills of Herat in Martinsville. The impressive decor was matched by Mustapha's hospitality, but the star of the show was the wonderful, fresh-tasting food. We started with the flatbread, which was the best I've ever tasted. The Shepard's Salad was refreshing. The Butternut Squash Bholani was also amazing. We also shared delicious Ashoks (vegetable-filled dumplings) and Mantus (beef-filled dumplings). My brother had the chicken kabobs with rice and I had the Dopiaza (lamb) with rice and both were savory and tender. A great custard dessert topped off a wonderful meal. Can't wait to go back. Hills of Herat is an amazing Afghan restaurant. The food, the service, the people. Everyone thing is wonderful and lovely. They give you soup and salad for free as a pre appetizer. Everything we ordered was yummy and filling. There were three sauces white, hot and green which just added to the flavor. I must say the dessert was the best part of the meal. The ras malai and phirni were awesome! I love Mediterranean food in general, but this Afghan restaurant was nothing less than spectacular. Definitely worth the drive down, your tummy will be happy with the food so your pockets won't complain :) More...

Tucked away in Martinsville this delightful surprise was a big hit with our Friday evening outing. I finally found a afghan place to go to in NJ and don't have to wait for my next trip to DC. Three kinds of rice to pair with any of the kebabs. You can't go wrong with any of them. The chicken kebab in some places tends to be dry but not here. Desserts were to die for. I haven't had a good firnee in such a long time and the surprise was the cream roll which while not exclusively Afghan reminded me of my childhood. My only criticism was of the curries which were under seasoned. More...

You know.... I'm really proud of this establishment. I've grown up in Warren right at the edge of Martinsville, and the turnover of previous restaurants in this same location has and still is so high. Yet, I think... REALLY hope Hills of Herat is here to stay. Truly truly. I've brought family, friends, near and far, for some solid, DELICIOUS, huge portioned Afghan goodness and they have not yet disappointed (... not a challenge I believe in you guys! ).I'm a pescatarian so the salmon kabob is my go-to. Never dry and super tender. I love the rice selections and usually ask for half and half so I can have both! Rice pudding is the best dessert here, 100 p.I've checked in here via Yelp twice? This was my first.I wasn't sure what to get, so the owner was able to steer me to what ended up being perfect for my taste (Borani Banjan eggplant dish with the Salmon). I LOVED the seasoning and can honestly say this was a favorite. The pita was warm and fluffy so it went fast. It was also nice that all of their entrees come with both and salad and a soParking was easy (there's a large lot) and the restaurant itself was clean, nicely decorated, and very comfortable. We went on a Tuesday evening and it wasn't crowded at all.I'll be back with them for more celebrations. This restaurant is an absolute treasure! My brother got reservations to celebrate a birthday based on the amazing reviews of top new restaurants. .. and it does not disappoint! The service was exceptional - seated right away and very attentive to the table needs. We sat down and were immediately presented with the (free) soup shown in the picture. It was so flavorful. We ordered the bholani appetizers with potato and the mantu dumplings. The bholani was this delicious fried dough filled with potatoes. The dumplings were exactly what you'd hope for. Appetizer portions were small but perfectly sized. The dinner entrees came with freshly baked bread and a salad as well as rice. The salad was eaten almost immediately - it has this light sauce (shown in picture). Yumm. For my entree I ordered the chicken qorma with the zamarud rice (shown in picture). Such a delicious sauce and the rice was incredible. Everything was amazing and they also gave a complimentary firni dessert for the birthday. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. Make sure to schedule a reservation and be prepared to enjoy. Way to earn my five stars! More...

When hearing people from the same family opened a new location I wondered what it would be like -- just assuming it would be different somehow because of a different name.Well, it is different. In subtle but yet noticeable ways. Subtle enough not to be able describe them well. Noticeable enough to want to come back for more.It is nice to now not only have two options in the local area but to also have a hard time deciding which one is best since they are both top notch!
