I bought my dog Arya 3 years ago. When Megan and I initially talked, she asked me questions, about me, my children, my house, and the kind of dog I was interested in adding to my family. I wanted a long haired, girl, with a great temperament for my family of 3 grown children. First of all: I am the daughter of a dog breeder (different breed) myself (and helped raising the puppies), so when we decided to get a German Shepherd it took me a while to find a breeder that felt right. I wanted to meet the breeder (and at least some of the dogs) before we bought any puppy and so we arranged a meeting. Everybody was very friendly and welcoming (including the dogs).After some brief discussions, we decided our puppy should come from Haus Juris.I have read previous reviews and would like to address some of the negative points mentioned:For all those complaining about waiting time: any responsible breeder has waiting lists. Some won't even bring a litter into this world without knowing that those puppies will have good homes. Waiting times are normal and in fact a sign of quality.Next "problem": yes, Megan picks the puppy for you. Unlike you, who will go all wide eyed and puppy brain when you first see the puppies, she actually raised them. She has a feel for them. Their character and temperament. And guess what? She is pretty good at judging people, too. So while the average person would pick a puppy under the influence of "puppy brain", Megan can actually make a rational decision. If you want something specifically (like short fur), just tell her. She will keep that in mind. For us she had two girls she thought would fit well into our family. We met both of them and one was "the one".By the way, my mother picks the right people for her puppies as well.Finally, the "sales mentality". Yes, they do sell all kinds of items and yes Megan will make suggestions. But do you know why? Because she knows the breed and especially her puppies. If you don't want anything, just say no. You might regret it though. We did get some of the suggestions Megan made (not all of them) and oh boy did we get some gold there. In fact the favorite treat of our little girl was a suggestion from Megan (one that we never would have picked up otherwise). They are also fairly prized and the antlers they sell are a LOT bigger than what you get at other places for the same money.The Haus Juris dogs I have seen all had a great temperament. Intelligent dogs with bright eyes, willing to please their owners, if said owners just know how to stimulate them. German Shepherds are not a lazy couch breed. They do not have an "off-switch". This is the beauty of the breed. They WANT to work with you. Be with you, experience the world with you. I doubt there is anything you can't teach a Haus Juris dog, if you just have the patience and creativity to do it. And if you need help with that: there are great classes at Haus Juris and the trainers are all very interested in helping you and making your life with your dog a long and happy one.To sum up this lengthy review: if you are looking for a breeder and/or training facility who truly care for the breed and dogs in general: Haus Juris is for you.Just be informed what kind of dog the German Shepherd is (also something Megan and her staff can help you with!) and be honest with yourself when you ask yourself: "Does this breed fit my family?"For those who do become clients of Haus Juris, I feel the following is very true:Haus Juris is not just a place, it is a family. Megan has a rare genius when it comes to animal behavior, training, and the conformation of the German Shepherd dog. Haus Juris is the best! All the dogs are top quality and very well trained. I love my boy and the fact that he is good with kids, and untrained handlers such as myself makes it easy to understand why he is part of the family. I've been working for Megan Judge and with her dogs at Haus Juris over two years. Megan is deeply passionate about German Shepherds, training and how she communicates with the dogs always amazes me. Megan breeds GSD but she would never push anyone to buy. "If you are not happy with them , do not take him/her " that's what she would say. We have had our puppy Zeus for just over 12 months. I was nervous about how he would interact with our other 2 dogs, a male lab and a female terrier. Megan recommended we look at a male puppy. He interacts well with the male lab and both boys always gang up on their sister when they are playing. He is very protective of the family and the house. He loves the water. I once acted as if I was in trouble in the water and he jumped right in, swam to me, and let me grab his fur, while he swam us back to shore. When we picked him up Megan had two puppies out for us to look at, and I immediately was drawn to Zeus. If I could get him to stop barking at the cats and the birds life would be perfect. Haus Juris is the best. Megan, the owner, is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to German Shepherds. She's not only a guru when it comes to showing dogs, she's also a great trainer. She makes sure her dogs are in top physical condition. The dogs are character tested and absolutely gorgeous. Megan follows the development of the puppies very carefully. She knows each puppy's character and traits and makes sure that potential owners are paired with the best match for that particular family. THAT is the trade mark of a responsible breeder. Anyone can sell puppies, but it takes guts to tell someone that the puppy they prefer is not really the perfect fit for them. She doesn't stop providing support after the sale is final. I have enjoyed working here for almost 2 years now. The staff cares greatly for our clients both human and K-9, and we all get along so well. We have some wonderful clients that I have enjoyed meeting and getting to know. I will admit I was not sure when I first started working here how I would feel about working for a breeder, but I can honestly say I am pleased with what I have learned and see in this breeding program. All of our dogs are like family to all of us working here, and great care is given by Megan to get/produce the best puppies all around. I am pleased and proud to be a part of such a caring and compassionate dog organization. I have met lots of good ,loving dogs and owners. Frequently meet people here and outside of the kennels that have heard good things about our kennel and puppies. We purchased a wonderful female puppy, now growing up to be everything we requested in a dog. I wanted a Mailo female. We asked Megan for a relaxed, laid back, but still a solid drive and protective female to grow with our newborn. And thus far, our baby has a great companion and guard dog. Megan picks her dogs for the owners, and she gave us exactly what we were looking for. Trust her judgement in her choice.When I work our girl, now a year old, she can focus 45 minutes to an hour at her task and works hard to please me. She is a solid worker. Honestly, I don't know where to even begin with my praise. Our Klaus is the center of the family. He has grown up to be an amazing, loving, and well behaved boy. I love that here they teach you first and foremost how to be a GSD parent. It shocks me how many people own dogs that shouldn't because they do NOT train them properly. They put their dogs and other dogs at risk. Megan would never, ever allow her dogs into a home that cannot commit to the awesome responsibility of owning a dog, let alone one with a negative, aggressive stigma. I love how passionate she is towards breeding, handeling, and training. The dogs come first. Always. Finally, I love the approach she takes to raising her dogs. Healthy, natural, and well-bred.
