Stopped by on our way back home to Pittsburgh from Hilton Head and it was fantastic. I ordered the STP, which was delicious. Prices are reasonable for the big portions that they give, and service is good and really fast for a sit down place. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a taste of Columbia! More...
Know my order as soon as they see me, great service!
Food was awesome
I love this place. You could put their special sauce on a shoe and I would eat that shoe.

yummy mustard dip, great service
Another Great Groucho's Experience. Pickles and 45 sauce @office catering surprise! Xmas in June! Thanks Groucho and Boss Man!
Really good food and exceptional service. They have a good variety on the menu and put lots of meat on the sandwiches. We have eaten there twice this week!
All Turkey STP 10/10
Had the best time here with family!! The tuna melt was awesome, not too much cheese and warm when it came out. As a restaurant worker I felt terrible to come in at 8:45 when they closed at 9! I asked if they'd prefer us to get it to go so they could go home on time and their happy reply was "Take your time! we're happy you chose to dine in with us!" So kind and friendly!! More...
Groucho's rules. The best sandwiches in town and that Formula 55 sauce is somethin else
Visited here on Sunday for lunch. Had the STP dipper. Food was delicious and freshly made. Would recommend this place to others.
I really like this place. If you know anything about their business model you might agree. A portion of their profits go to charity. That being said, I wish I could dine here more often.I like their sandwiches. They're actually pretty simple and well executed. Not the best sandwiches I've ever had, just good, quality food. Only criticisms I have are the blaring music and our food stayed sitting in the window for 4-5 minutes. Our two sandwiches that had been toasted were already cold. Only 4 tables occupied at the time.Other than that we like it and will be coming back. More...
Grouchos is one of the best under-the-radar spots in all of Raleigh! Staff is super friendly and down to earth, and the food is delicious. Best sandwiches in the area hands down. Try the Formula 45 sauce! More...
Awesome staff just wish they could stay open later hours
If you’re looking for a great deli with amazing service and quick, delicious food this is your place. The food is always delivered promptly and is very freshly made. Whether your looking for a quick lunch or a great dinner this is your place! More...
Awesome, awesome. Awesome!!! I frequent Groucho’s quite often, and whether we eat in or takeout the food and service quality, is second to none!! I highly recommend the “Rueben variation”, the pastrami is to-die-for & what’s the recipe to the 45 sauce?! If you want to go a little lighter, try “My Wife’s Salad”.. honestly you can’t go wrong with option you choose. Great people, Great food.. (seriously what’s the recipe for the 45 sauce) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ More...
You can't go wrong with Groucho's, the amazing smell of the sandwich aroma hits your senses and sends them haywire. Great fast, friendly service and the food is outstanding.
Love this place 10/10 atmosphere. Great for watching NC state games with friends
My family loves Groucho's Deli! It is great lunch or dinner. My kids love it as a after school late lunch! The service is excellent, the food is always fresh, consistent, and fast. If you have not tried Groucho's I recommend the Apollo Dipper with the "45" sauce or the "My Wife's Salad Bowl". More...
Without a doubt my favorite Deli shop in the Rock Hill and surrounding areas. Service, food quality and value are tip top here. I absolutely love the STP Dipper and Apollo Dipper. The bread and quality of meats are just the absolute best. Their 45 Sauce is great, but it's their Danish Blue Cheese Sauce that makes me weak in the knees. I always have to order extra everytime I visit, so, so good. You simply can't go wrong here whatsoever. Great, fast, super friendly and attentive service with all around great food to boot, no matter what you order. What more could you possibly want? More...
I have loved Groucho's since college and the newest location doesn't disappoint! My go to order is the all turkey Apollo with baked sour cream and onion chips. Dip every bite in the 45 sauce!!! Run, don't walk to Groucho's. More...
Went to dinner at this location tonight. Had the STP sandwich. The sandwich was tasty and the thousand island mix dressing served with it as a dip was very good. Very few people so the service was great. I wasn't overly impressed with the chips or side choices but the food was good and I would definitely recommend! More...
Really tasty food. I wanted to try something different on Hillsborough and I’m glad I did. I also liked the general vibe and the big windows for people-watching.
Groucho's deli is the place to go if you like fresh sandwiches and a good deal. Their menu is so extensive and at this point I've had something from almost every section and have never been disappointed. Their specialties are their "dipper" sandwiches which are essentially cheese melts, so good! And they are $1 off on Monday with $2 beers, a great deal. This location has a lot of local CLT craft beers for $5 everyday as well, which is more than reasonable for a local beer. They always have anywhere from 5-10 local draft selections whenever I've been in. Overall I love this deli in this location, it's a great spot to have in the Montford area and will continue to be one of my weekly go-to's for lunch and dinner. More...
Our server was amazing! So helpful and informative. We loved the 45 sauce (I was desperately finding things to dip in it). I was turned off about the reviews at first of the prices. We really didn't go broke eating there and I thought the cost wasn't too bad. We'll be back More...
Must try. STP Dipper is the way to go. Will be a repeat stop for me. To be fair, I could probably eat a hot deli sandwich every day for lunch. But feel confident you'll be impressed if you try. Parking is only negative due to meters around, but quick and generally always a spot open. More...
It's a sit down restaurant! I've only been to self service ones before so this is a nice change. The sub is a lot of bread so I prefer the sandwiches. Ham is amazingly thin sliced. Love the Italian dressing. Plenty of tables and seating. I need to come back more often and try the other sandwiches. More...
Great Service, Food and Atmosphere. Order the Apollo sandwich. Unlike other Groucho's Deli's they serve beer.
Love this Groucho's location! Food is always great, order is always accurate (and if not, they quickly fix the problem). Only downside is that this location seems to be busy no matter when you visit, unless it's around 3-4 pm. But that's great for the business! Even when they're packed, still the quickest service around. I've been going to this location since they opened and I've never had a less than pleasant experience. More...
Stopped in for a quick dinner one evening. It's located right off of Park Rd so it was pretty easy to get to for me. They have a parking lot so parking was easy. Upon entering, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. They weren't busy so seating wasn't an issue and they have a patio which will be great for warm weather. I ordered the STP dipper sandwich with chips and a brownie. The quality of meats on the sandwich were really good and had good flavor. The star for me was the 45 sauce. I thought it was a great enhancement for the sandwich. The chips were just ok to me and could have used a slight hit of salt. The brownie was great. Sandwiches are mostly around $10 which is a bit pricey, but they do seem to use quality products. More...
Best sandwiches I've had in a long time
The Hartsville location is consistent, on time, and I have always enjoyed good service. The sweet tea and the STP are always on the money! My wife loves the salads. Very good food and worth the price. More...
ALWAYS a favorite. I've had a regular sandwich before when I ventured out I will always come back to the Dipper. No questions asked. It's soooo good. And you can't forget about the special 45 sauce. In fact, take two. Dip your Dipper and chips in it - yes you heard right. You won't forget it. This place was located in Hillsborough and limited parking but since I got take out, it was super quick like 5 mins on a Wednesday night. Plenty of seating inside with tv as well. More...

I am a longtime fan of Groucho's. The Groucho's Deli at Park Road in Charlotte is great. The 45 Sauce is incredible. This time I ordered an Apollo Dipper with extra 45 sauce and Extra chips. Real good to dip the pickle into the 45 Sauce. Perfect! More...
Mid-east special and STP with the famous 45 sauce, local craft beers are a nice touch!
Delicious food and they also have craft beer. Dipping into 45 sauce is like jumping into the lake in the summertime, for your sandwich, a truly sensational experience. The employees were knowledgeable about the menu and helped me pick my choice. Would recommend to a friend More...
Love this place. I walked Inside for a takeout order and I was back out in less than 5 minutes. The food was amazing and everything was fresh. I will stop by here and get lunch every time I'm in the area from now on. More...
I've been waiting for this day to come where Groucho's finally came to the neighborhood! One of my family's go to sandwich spots. I grew up eating Groucho's Deli so was very excited to see that Charlotte had one when I came to town for a wedding. It did not disappoint! The mid-east was delicious! So so good. Excellent service. The place was packed which is a good sign. The only thing I thought was weird was that we were charged for water. Only 25 cents, but still! I will definitely stop here again for my Groucho's fix next time I am in town. More...
I work in Statesville every few weeks and I'm always looking for new places to eat for my lunch, I tried the Apollo Dipper and it was delicious, I called in and took my order to go however the restaurant as a whole was very nice, this is an idea place to go for lunch and or a date for two, it's not real big so I don't know about having a group there but the Apollo Dipper was delicious, I can't wait to go back and try another sandwich and their potato salad, parking can be a little tricky unless there is a parking lot I'm not aware of, because I had to park on the side of the road because the establishment is located downtown so I did have to circle around to be able to get to the restaurant other than parking my experience at Groucho's was perfect, can't wait to go back!
So excited to have Groucho's in our neighborhood! We discovered the Huntersville location a few years ago and when it closed we drove to Statesville a few times because we missed it so much. Amazing sandwiches and the formula 45 sauce is perfect for dipping pretty much anything, yum! More...
We stopped here on the way to Boone, NC to get sandwiches. They had a good variety and it's stuffed with quite a bit of meat, which was nice to see. They serve potato chips and a pickle with most sandwiches, which was a nice compliment to the sandwich.Would I come back here...yes! More...
Having never been to a Groucho's Deli before, but having heard good things, I was looking forward to the opening once I saw the "Coming Soon" sign. So, needless to say when I heard they were open I went on opening day. After arriving I was a little unsure if I was supposed to grab a seat or wait for someone to take me to a seat or order at the counter. At places like this I'm so used to placing an order and paying at a counter before grabbing a seat, however I soon learned Groucho's works a little differently. A nice employee informed me that if I was going to dine in I could grab a seat anywhere.Menus are located at the table so after taking a look and asking my server for his recommendation I went with the STP..Swiss, Turkey and Roast Beef with Bacon Crumbles and their "Formula 45" sauce on the side.Within 10 minutes my sandwich arrived. Unfortunately I wasn't asked what side so I received a bag of chips. Next time will definitely have to check out their other options. As for the sandwich, it was good, but I expected so much more. The cheese was not melted and they definitely skimped on the meats. However I did enjoy the "Formula 45" sauce. The restaurant is clean and inviting, and for those who had been to the restaurant that occupied this location prior, you will be shocked at what an outstanding transformation they have made. Service and food were good and I will definitely look forward to checking out other items on their menu. More...
Great sandwich served quickly. They are a little on the small side if you are really hungry. Very friendly staff.
Great variety of sandwiches, salads! Friendliest staff around!

Best deli I’ve had in a long time. Got the STP Dipper. Delicious.
Love Love Groucho’s! Great place to eat with the best open faced sandwiches! The 45 sauce is the best for dipping! Friendly people and N.C. State themed. Try the STP... You won’t be disappointed! Parking can be difficult but go early and take chance for street meters. More...
I was excited to see Groucho's is now in Charlotte! After graduating from usc I have missed being able to eat there weekly. This new location has a great atmosphere and I can't wait to go back. They were extremely busy, but the manager, JB, still found time to go around and introduce himself to everybody in the restaurant. Can't wait to go back More...
I saw a picture of the STP Dipper and I knew I had to try it!! Lunch plans were thus confirmed and I headed to the new Groucho's Deli in South Park. Groucho's Deli took over the old IPho spot near Montford. It shares a parking lot with the "lil" Harris Teeter and Portofino's. The inside is very inviting and there are plenty of seating. There are booths, tables and a cool wood community table. The decor is very clean with an industrial feel. When I arrived I was quickly greeted and able to choose a table. The whole place was empty cause I came around 3:30pm for a late lunch. I placed my order and it arrived to me within 10 minutes of me ordering. I ordered the STP Dipper cause I had to after seeing the picture but I did sub the Formula 45/Danish Bleu for ranch. I also subbed the chips for the Pasta Salad. I was impressed with my sandwich and the taste of the pasta salad. The pasta salad is an oil and vinegar based pasta salad with a good amount of veggies in it. The cup is kinda small it's served in and the veggies are a large chop so I didn't get much pasta. Now the STP Dipper was delish. It's tasted great with the ranch also. It came out all warm and toasty and the meats work well together. I did get the 6in and it was just enough for lunch. A pickle spear is also served on the side. I was also able to place a togo order for a friend at work and it was easy breezy. I also downloaded the app to get the $5 reward and to start earning points. I would definitely recommend giving Groucho's Deli a try. I know I will be coming back and trying more of their menu items. Delicious subs and very friendly service. Sweet tea was fabulous. Loved the formula 45 dressing -- worried it would be spicy but didn't find it hot at all. Wished my sub was a tad larger but that's my only complaint. More...
10/19/18 Groucho's Deli (4) Awesome Dipper sandwiches but chips were stale and side cucumbers and tomatoes were cut too large. The house dressing was great, it taste like a jazzy thousand island dressing. Great server who took time to explain the deli lingo on menu. Quiet atmosphere More...

I used to live in Columbia, SC where Grouchos originated and there aren't many outside of the state - maybe two? So happy I don't have to wait for visits back to SC to enjoy the beauty that is their sandwiches.
This place is so awesome!! I order the Jr Apollo (which comes with a bag of chips) and a sweet tea. My meal is always delicious. The Jr is enough for a lunch portion, for me. The meat is very fresh, the bread is soft, and the cheese is melted and creamy. The sweet tea is “Carolina approved” with praise-worthy crushed ice. I nibble on the chips in the restaurant then finish them off at my desk in the afternoon. A server there named Kevin is such a delight and is arguably one of the most patient and friendly servers on earth. More...

Food is great! Friendly staff too! Groucho's is great deli sandwiches, creatively crafted from fresh ingredients. You can't buy better.
Great service. Good food. Maybe a bit pricey
Awesome sandwiches. It's a chain, and I've found them all to be pretty good. I like the big dipper. It's probably not healthy, but I enjoy it.
Outstanding food and service. Great place to be!
I was skeptical to try them at first, but one of my friends invited me to lunch there and man was I glad I went. They have very good portions and have nailed the fresh deli sandwich!
Great chili and sandwiches in a casual, laid-back atmosphere. The staff are super friendly and get to know their customers.
Awesome place! The 45 sauce is on point :)
Fantastic service, amazing food, and very quick!
Excellent sandwich and wonderful service.
Good food and service. I recommend trying the Formula 45 sauce.
Groucho's is the best deli on the planet. My husband and I moved to the triangle after graduating from Clemson, and always talked about missing Groucho's so very much (thinking it was exclusively a SC chain). Yesterday, we discovered that Raleigh has a Groucho's, and it made our lives complete. Well worth the drive from Chapel Hill.Menu suggestion- all-turkey apollo, or any dipper. I have never met someone who didn't like either of those! More...

Good hot sandwiches great sauce, solid side and under $19 for lunch for 2. Yes please!
This place has some of the best sandwiches ever. Would highly recommend this restaurant and any sandwich, especially the Apollo Dipper with 45 Sauce.
Food is simple but good and the servings are really good especially for the price.
Fresh subs, what more to ask for!
The sandwich I got was very good but they unfortunately only have one size and I probably could have eaten a second one if not for the price.
Incredibly consistent food and great service. My favorite deli sandwich of all times. You got to try the “45 sauce”.
Great little place sammies are off the charts
Homegrown and always consistent. My kids love this place. You can't beat the Groucho's sauce for your sandwich and as a dipping sauce for your chips. Nice little hang out. Quiet and has a group of nice college aged kids working in the place. If you are looking for a nice hot sub type of sandwich then I think you will be pleased with Groucho's. More...
Stopped here while passing through town enroute to the mountains. Growing up in NY, I saw the word deli and it brought back memories of overstuffed huge Sammie's that you either shared or brought home half cuz they were huge. Though really good turkey and melted Muenster, it was not the huge Sammie's as a NY deli. The formula 45 dip that comes on the side is a mix of Russian and thousand island sauce that was good, although advertised as spicy, not real spicy at all. Still a satisfying lunch with a pickle and bag of chips. The place was packed on a Friday afternoon, service was pretty quick and I appreciate that. They also have several salad options as well as soup. More...

Wonderful people and wonderful food.. portions are proper size here.. it's so good
Great food and service! I can always manage to find something to eat at any restaurant with the gluten intolerance that I have, but this is the only restaurant in Cheraw that offers Gluten Free bread! So after many visits to Groucho's eating the great "my wife salad" that I love, I actually got to eat an STP sandwich with their new gluten free bread and it did not disappoint! Delish! Located in historic downtown in a building with character. We sat at the large front windows open to Broad Street. Lots of healthy options on the menu, but be warned, you get less (like no cheese), but pay the same. Hubby selected the highly recommended STP Dipper and thought it was very tasty. I had the low-fat beef marinate sandwich. It was good. Waitress was fine, but when we told her it was our first visit, she didn't offer suggestions or anything welcoming. Nothing extraordinary about this deli, but certainly nothing wrong with it either. Good iced tea and wait staff kept my white styrofoam cup full. More...
This review is based on a delivery order (cause I'm addicted to Bitesquad y'all). I have never eaten at Groucho's before today, but I hear sooo much about it and people tell me I'll love their sauce cause I'm a sauce girl. I ordered a tuna melt. I was a bit surprised that it was situated on very thick white bread with three pieces of bread. It was alot of food for the price so they get a seal of approval on value. The sandwich itself was nothing really special. The tuna salad was pretty good, a bit sweeter than I'm used to or than I would make myself, but still good. There were thick slices of tomato and leafy lettuce, both were crisp and fresh. The sauce that came with the sandwich really helped give it flavor -- guess it's always about the sauce with me. What I did find disappointing about the sandwich was that the only thing that was a "melt" about this was melted cheese. The bread was cold. I guess I think of a melt as toasty bread and cheese to make it a warm sandwich. All in all, I'd definitely go back. I'll throw a little salt to give it a more savory flavor or add some dill pickles and dip it in the sauce. Thanks for giving me a quality meal! More...
Service and food are usually spot on here. Sweet tea is definitely good for you southerners out there. I like the option to seat yourself. The only reason I would give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of parking. The parking lot behind this location is ALWAYS full and people start making their own spots and that makes it dangerous to drive through. You might have to pay for parking at a meter. But other than that, I'd recommend if you want a cost-efficient lunch! More...
Get the STP Dipper. It will make your mouth water just looking at it!
If you're looking for a place with classic deli sandwiches, this is it! They have an extensive menu, but they will fix ANYTHING you want! Our party had reubens, ham & cheeses, and the Groucho original. EVERYTHING was tasty! And their own brand of chips were good as well! More...
Always equally delicious. I lOVE this place. I totally recommend the stp dipper. There sandwiches are always amazing and packed full of meats. You have to gorilla grip them. The formula 45 sauce which comes with almost every single sub is TO DIE FOR. They also have the "good" ice. Yaaas. More...

April 29, 2018; 14:17; less than an hour before closing. But the service was excellent and the server professional and helpful. Entering restaurants and hour before closing is something I try to avoid since its usually one of the worst service and food quality times. However, I was happily surprised by the variety, pricing, food quality and staff. I chose the club and was impressed with the taste and serving size. Excellent choice. Service was quick and the store was clean and neat. Restrooms were stocked and clean. Overall this visit exceeded my expectations. I would recommend trying. More...
Don't mis the salads! I didn't have much time to eat before going to jury duty. Opened the front door and was asked to sit anywhere. Not more than three minutes went by and my salad appeared, talk about fast service! Victoria stopped by two or three more times to check on me and give me more water. Overall it was a great experience. More...
I came in here hungry on an Wednesday afternoon. Heard about this place before but never tried it myself till that day. Ordered some funny named salad and a sandwich with chips and a delicious dill pickle. Maybe it was because I was hungry but it was the best pickle I ever had. Everything else was good too. Something about that first bite into a good pickle though. Could be five star but they need to simplify the menu. I kinda frequent the place when I'm nearby but remembering that first time the menu was confusing More...
We called ahead a gluten free order (I am allergic to gluten so I have no choice) and informed me that it should be ready in 5-10 minuets. After driving out of my way home I walk into the store pay for my sandwich and then the cashier walks out and tells me that they are out of gluten free bread. After I called ahead and ordered and after I had paid for my food. After that the manager came out because I wanted a refund. He was not helpful and told me that the money would be back on my card in 1-2 business days. After that I left. Terrible management.UPDATE 3-16-18 The owner contacted us and was very apologetic and made it right. Thank you Michael Manley More...
IT'S ALL ABOUT THE SAUCE, Y'ALL!For those wondering "What's the deal with this place?" it's mostly the "45 Sauce" that makes Groucho's unique. That, and a little bit of nostalgia for those of us who went to college at University of South Carolina, where the original Groucho's is located. With that in mind, if you try this place out for the first time, get The Apollo or The STP sandwich, or some other one that has the 45 dipping sauce. Dip the warm sandwich in it, dip your chips in it, dip your pickle in it. It's a nice, tangy sauce with a hint of dill... it's the "special sauce" created by Harold "Groucho" Miller for the original deli he started in 1941 in Columbia. In my opinion, if you get something else on the menu without trying the signature 45 sauce, you're missing the point and Groucho's is just another sandwich place... More...
A good place to grab a sandwich in a hurry. The service is quick and it is pretty consistent. I prefer to eat there, because the to go sandwiches seem soggy by the time I eat them.

I love grouchos! Who doesn't love a sub piled high with turkey and that coveted dipping sauce?!I make it a point to stop by Grouchos each time I visit Columbia. I stick with my favorite, the Apollo Dipper, minus the ham. I never knew this, but they offer baked chips. I overheard a table request them during my recent visit. Otherwise I try and save some of the sauce to dip my chips in. Do they bottle their sauce They definitely should!!!Our service is always great and there is plenty of seating to accomodate the lunch crowd. Grouchos is definitely worth giving a shot during lunch. 8 year old approved, his favorite sandwich joint. 4 year old just likes the chips...when do they stop being so picky? More...

The staff is extremely friendly! It is located in a cute college town and the food is always delicious. The staff know my order every time I walk in and I love grabbing a quick meal here. The sandwiches are always good and I would recommend this place to anyone who is dropping through Hartsville. More...
Very cheesy, warm, delicious sandwiches. They also have beer on tap which is awesome. Right up the block from Campus. Woohoo
The original Groucho's and the best! Since they started franchising out the restaurant quality has suffered. A lot of the franchised stores serve up small microwaved sandwiches with lower quality meat. The microwave makes the bread hard. Not good. However, at the Groucho's mothership on Harden st. They make the STP the old school way. Big and steamed with real bacon and tasty meat. It was a favorite back in college and still is. More...
Delicious! I had the STP Dipper with the bleu cheese dip. Flavors are awesome service is quick. Try the half regular and half sweet tea
Always great. Love the staff. My usual Friday lunch spot.
Fantastic hoagies at good price. They are quick and delicious. I usually get the Apollo Dipper.

The food and service are always great. Any time I want a hot, fast sandwich, this is the first choice!
One of the best sub places around! I love eating here, it is my go to! The sauce that you dip your sub in is AMAZING!
Best place in Raleigh for a deli sandwich.
Groucho's is the best!
This place is the real deal! Great service. Great food. Great prices.
Y'all, I love Grouchos. When I transferred away from USC in 2012 the only reason I ever wanted to go back to Columbia was to go to Grouchos. I was thrilled when they opened shop in Raleigh. Their sandwiches are everything you want from a sub. The parking on Hillsborough is insane but it is totally worth it. More...
Fastest, most deliscious sandwhich eva. Super friendly staff
Great sandwiches and service!
This place has the best food and service! The manager Kevin always makes time to chat with customers!
Love this place! I'm a vegetarian and the staff are great about talking through the menu and accommodating my needs. I try and eat here once every two weeks! It's hard to find a sandwich combo this good for around $6. More...
The best sandwich place around, hands down! The sauce is awesome too!
I hadn't been to Groucho's in about 6 months, yet the waitress remembered me. I used to go every week, but wanted to start saving money so I quit going out for lunch as much. The Danish Bleu dipping sauce is SO awesome. It's almost like ranch and bleu cheese mixed. Perfect! More...
We recently moved to Hickory from Columbia, SC. As we were moving, we joked that Groucho's was a "must-have" wherever we ended up. As fate would have it, Hickory actually has a Groucho's, and we couldn't be happier about it! I eat at Groucho's regularly. Every time, the same thing: the Apollo Dipper. If you are not familiar with this place, you are missing out! Great tasting sandwiches that are steamed to melty cheese perfection. The "Formula 45" sauce is excellent for sandwich/ chip dipping. The sweet tea is fantastic. The service is always fast, but consistent. This location even has a drive-thru. All of the elements of a perfect lunch spot! More...
Food is consistently good. Staff is friendly as well. Great place for a good sandwich. And it's better than most fast food in the area
A midlands special. You can't go wrong here. Decor is dated but the food is legit. Get the White Moose with 45 sauce! You won't regret it!
Grouchos is a regular favorite of ours! We always order their STP Dipper and have yet to be disappointed with the food or the service!Whether we dine in or take out, no employee is every anything short of pleasant and accommodating. Restaurant is always clean, as are the bathrooms. Great, quick spot to eat something different. More...
Tried this place considering all of the positive Yelp reviews. I ordered the white moose sandwich combo & it was pretty good. Warm turkey & cheese on a sesame seed bun plus the sauce they give on the side gave it an extra flare. The combo comes with chips and a pickle & according to the DAILY SPECIALS sign, sweet tea is an additional $1 with the purchase of a Moose sandwich on Mondays. Exactly what I ordered (on a Monday) but was charged $9.49. Not sure how my total came to be that high if the sandwich was $6.49 + $1 tea. Slightly over priced but it hit the spot. More...
I love Groucho's and search them out anytime I'm in SC. Service is always fast and friendly and the food is amazing!! The bread is soft and delicious, the meats are high quality, and the sauces....wow!!! My favorite is STP Dipper with formula 45! Doh! Now I want one and I'm not in SC! :( More...
Grt place to eat! Love everything there. Food is good for ya & wont hurt your pocket at all. My favorite location hands down is on forest drive.
Conflicted regarding how to rate this experience. This was our second visit. We came back because we enjoyed it the first time. Food was good again, but the waitress was angry - impatient when taking orders, threw cookies on the table, etc. she displayed the same behavior with other tables so we are pretty sure we did not inadvertently do something wrong. It made the dining experience unpleasant. But I don't want to penalize the restaurant because of an surly employee. More...
Not sure what's so special about the special sauce, but it is special. I dip my chips in it before inhaling an STP Dipper along with a gallon of sweet southern nectar (tea). Oh, and they have that really good ice that the iron deficient crave. Trivia: this is called pica.Parking gets tight on a Sunday because all the neighboring peeholes have reserved spaces. Some specifically state "not Groucho's parking." You can park on Main and walk through a dark alley to Groucho's side door. The alley is safe - not rapey at all. More...
Nice deli! Their menu has quite a few low-fat selections. I tried the low-fat turkey international and it was great. Service was fast and friendly. I will go back again.
As an SC native, this place feels like home except much cleaner. The beer is reasonably priced and the sandwiches are incredible. I normally go for an all ham apollo with muenster cheese on a white roll with baked BBQ chips. The ice is pellet sized and melts at just the right rate to make the perfect sweet tea. I'm convinced the 45 sauce is 15% crack and I won't let anyone tell me otherwise. Insider tip: buy a pint to go and put it on everything. Love this place and the people that run it. More...
Perfect! I'm originally from the Columbia, SC area and grew up going to the original Groucho's in 5 Points. This is exactly like it, service it quick and food is on point. I eat here at least once a week, for lunch you have to get the STP Dipper when you go! Also the sweet tea is heavenly More...
Service was slow. Called ahead and still had to wait. But food was good. Would try them again. And would recommend to friends.
Love, love, love it here! Fresh? They got it covered. Fast? They got that covered too! Today I was greeting with, "Guys, M's here to pick up her order." ....I wasn't even at the counter yet! My favorite is just being able to order and pay through the app. If you want a loaded salad, get the My Wife's Salad Bowl. Turkey, Ham, shredded cheese, all the bacon, more cheese in the form of cubes, tomato and cukes. It really is delish, and their dressings are amazing! More...
Good sandwich spot if you want something unique. I had their low fat chicken fritter and really liked it. The sauce added was very tasteful and unique. The establishment was nice. I only had one issue when I ordered online and my sandwhich was not ready after 35 minutes from ordering, and it wasn't even busy. Besides that I didn't had too many problems. More...
We had such a great experience here! The food was delicious, service was amazing and food was out quickly. The " my wife's salad bowl" was the biggest salad I have had and was packed full of meat. The "Big Dipper " was a huge hit at our table as well. More...
Probably one of the best club sandwiches in my life! Bacon cooked to perfection - ot too crunchy yet not raw. Real turkey. A great find - I will be back!!!! More...
This is the first and only Groucho's I've ever been to. My go to sub place is usually Jimmy Johns, but lately their prices have been going up and the toppings on their subs have been getting smaller, so I really have no interest in Jimmy Johns anymore and the other sub places (Subway, Jersey Mikes) are just bad. Anyway, we got takeout and the girl that took my order was nice. It was quick and cheap. It was I think around $7.50 for the sandwich, chips and a pickle. The sandwich definitely could've been bigger, it looked only like a half of a sandwich, but it was tasty. I had the STP Dipper which had turkey, roast beef, melted cheese and bacon crumbles. It came with a side of dressing and I opted for blue cheese, which was tasty. You definitely won't leave stuffed, but it is relatively inexpensive and tasty. I think it is a better option that the other, somewhat "fast food" sandwich shops around More...
Nice change from the chain sandwhich shops. Love the grain mustard and pretzels on the low fat menu.
If you could combine all the best things about Subway, Quiznos, Jimmy John's, and Potbelly you would get Grouchos. They have the best sandwiches around and the most friendly service!
Their salads are as good as the sandwiches. Try the Pink Moose with Formula 45 sauce.
I would give this place 5 stars but we noticed another couple was served before us and we got here first. We were new and the other couple seemed new too after us...What we did was go up to the counter and she told us we could sit anywhere and from there we looked at the menu and later placed our order. After a while of looking at the menu tho we noticed a couple go up to the counter that looked new too and they ordered at the counter and then sat down. So of course they got their food first which didn't seem right to me. But the food comes out fast so that's a plus. I got the International Dip with turkey. Took 5 mins to get our food which is great. The potato chips are really good! More...
First visit and lives it. I had the Jr STP and can't wait to go back. Huge soft roll type bread with the cheese melted all over top of the sandwich itself. I don't get to the NCSU campus area much anymore but if you do check this place out. More...
Despite some of the other reviews, I'm really impressed with both the quality of the food and the price. I'm honestly confused at the claim that the food is expensive. On average, the sandwich (which comes with chips) is $6-7. That's Subway cheap for a sandwich, and let me tell you, they're a lot better than subway. The sandwiches appear to all be covered with cheese. Most are melts, so they are hot and they have a good amount of meat on them. The bread is soft, and the portions are usually filling.I rarely find myself in this part of Raleigh, and am usually a little disappointed with a lot of the restaurants down the strip next to NCSU, and I frequently find myself here. It's fast, the food is always good, and I can get out for fast food prices. Not too shabby in my opinion.Try the STP, by the way. It's got roast beef, turkey, and ham... and the house sauce that comes with it (for free) is great. More...
This small SC based joint is family friendly with a family staff, Nice sandwich selection w/real pastrami. Good draft selection. Rocking a 100% sanitation grade.
Sandwich (BLC Chicken Critter) was tasty but fairly expensive considering the portion. Also, beware that they charge 25¢ for water.
Cutting through Columbia. Saw my favorite from Fort Mill. Incredible & Identical. Apollo with 45 sauce. I might try to eat Apollos at all their locations on my route while traveling Labor Day.
Great sandwiches at reasonable price. Awesome ice in the drinks. It's the soft kind, check it out. Friendly and efficient staff.
I drive from far away just to eat their delicious subs. Their meat stuffed subs are the best select deli meats anywhere. STP dipper and 45 sauce is to die for I get provolone cheese on mine. Don't walk but run! I have been going for years. More...
Tried Griucho's for the first time and got to admit these are some mighty delicious sandwiches. I will definitely be back again
Always great even the pickles taste great but all it needs is a three letter review: STP
Really wish I found this place sooner! Warm sandwich with melted cheese, delicious dipping sauce, great iced tea, fast service! Clean, open environment and very affordable. I got free re-fills in my iced tea and a lid to go with my check (without having to ask)! Only thing that threw me off was that a "sesame bun" is really just a hamburger bun. Only thing I would change would be homemade potato chips but, for the price, it can't be beat! More...
I really like Grouchos as a fast/inexpensive lunch option. I always order the STP Dipper with the bleu cheese dressing. It is so good! I think the best part is the soft bread, but the roast beef with the turkey and melty cheese is a really good combo. I love that they have a lot of cool NC State memorabilia and have really embraced the Hillsborough St. location. Parking can be a B word at times, but never too awful. More...
It's an average looking restaurant. The food there is pretty good. The locals really like it. If you like po boys it's the place in Rock Hill for you.
I love Grouchos! It's definitely my favorite sandwich place. The environment is really cool, food is good as always, and they are super quick. There are specials Monday through Thursday that are worth checking out. The Apollo is my favorite but the STP is definitely the runner up. Be sure to get a sub with some 45 sauce to dip it in. More...
Excellent deliFriendly staffGreat foodWe were on a long travel day and this was a great quick stop Apollo sandwich is delicious.
I called in an order . I'm that person that orders changes to my white moose sandwich. It was ready and the cook came out to make sure it was perfect! Great , fast service! Really care about customers More...
Great freaking sandwiches. STP dippers are my favorite. Just way tooooooooooooo pricey. Other than that really good hot subs and best tea in town.
You can never go back. This was a favorite of mine when I was at USC as a student. But now instead of nursing a hangover with their amazing sweet tea and Apollo Dipper, I'm taking the family out for lunch. If you want one of the best sandwiches you will ever have, get one of their specialty dippers. We try to stop and have lunch here every time we are in Columbia. Go Gamecocks! More...
This place is amazing. I was a fan of Groucho's from Pawley's Island So when I moved to Columbia I made it my duty to find a local restaurant. From the 45 sauce to the customer service you can't beat the Sparkleberry location. My wife is a huge fan of their salads and I personally can't go more than a few weeks without a STP. I have not had a bad experience there dine-in or takeout. Same friendly smiling faces, they even play with my two year old daughter as she is making a mess of the place. More...
Great toasted BLT sandwich. Support your local businesses and not chains. Besides, their food is much better.
A staple from South Carolina graces Raleigh with its presence!Great food and friendly, fast service....I'm talking "look down to check your phone and your foods here" fast. Sandwiches served on the softest bread with their "special" phenomenal sauce. Nice beer selection too! Can't say enough good things about the staff and owners as well. Good people who always take time to say hi. More...
I'm a big Groucho's fan, and this is a great location. The service was extremely fast and very friendly! Sandwich was nice and hot! We will definitely be back. I recommend the Big Dipper, and I like mine all roast beef. More...
Great place with a varied menu of sandwiches and salads. Highly recommend BUT if you might want to bring your own fork - the child size plastic fork just doesn't quite cut it
Definitely the best grouchos in Columbia/Lexington. A little pricey in my opinion for sandwiches/subs, etc...but they're great! Can't beat the sweet tea and formula 45 sauce! More...
Really good deli sandwiches with great sauces.... The baby sub is great, the service was friendly and the salted caramel brownie was good too. Great local spot for after the game. More...
Groucho's Deli is the perfect spot for a quick lunch break if you're short on time. The service is always excellent and I have rarely waited longer than 10 minutes for my food to arrive once ordered. The Apollo & Pink Moose are my absolute favorites. The sweet tea is also the best around. Groucho's never disappoints. More...
Good place. Bryan gross is the man
Stopped in here for lunch while traveling. Recommended by local as a favorite. I was told to try the STP and the 45 sauce was a must. I ordered as told and was pleasantly surprised. Great, filling sandwich with a unique sauce twist. Total hole in the wall, but good food. More...
One of my favorite restaurants in the area. Unique old school deli with amazing dipping sandwiches, and a fascinating old school potato salad recipe. I love this stuff. The sandwich meats are of the highest quality which makes them better than everyone else to me... They taste awesome with the hot soft fresh rolls they use... Even their potato chips are awesome, especially when dipped in the sandwich sauce. The 45 sauce is a must try and they have some of the best iced tea on earth with nice crushed ice... Love it!!! This place originated in Columbia, SC countless years ago by a quality driven "Groucho" (who looked like Groucho Marx) who invented his own recipes and sauces. The dipping sandwiches are delicious. I believe his son continued the business and I applaud him for successfully scaling the business while holding the quality. It is a perfect blend of traditional northern style deli dishes with their own unique southern invented style. They even have some nice healthy options including vegetarian dishes, but I have to go for the meat deli sandwiches every time. The girls that work there are also so nice, and they always provide the best attentive service. It is a great college town meal experience, that I truly love!I am not saying some other places are not good, but this is the best sandwich experience I drive from Chapel Hill to experience around once a week if I can... More...
I had the best sandwich ever here! The bun is perfectly soft and delicious, the turkey was piled high and it came with a tasty, house-made sauce on the side. The sandwich also comes with a pickle and Groucho's own chips for no extra cost. The restaurant itself is what you would call a dive, but don't let that stop you for trying it out! There's plenty of seating and the service is quick and friendly. If you need a sandwich in Columbia, you need to go to Groucho's! More...
Always delicious, especially the STP Dipper. I would have given then five stars, if the sauce was as good as Andi's Deli.
We love eating here. The food is always good and the workers are friendly. Some members of our family are vegetarian, and there are several options for all of us when we eat here. Love it! :)
Went to school at University of South Carolina so when this place opened last year I was one of the first in line. LOVE Groucho's - you gotta get one of their soft sub rolls with the 45 sauce in my opinion. I always get an all turkey apollo. Also, dip your chips in the sauce, sooo good! More...
Came back here for the first time in over 25 years after moving away from Columbia. It's the same great place it's always been. Had the STP with 45 and it was awesome! My boy had his first one too and crushed it. Wish they would open in Atlanta. More...
perfect lunch spot/hangover cure!! the staff is awesome (ask for Rachel) and prices are good
Pretty good sandwiches... No wifi and really noisy but all in all not a terrible experience.
I love this place! The service is always wonderful and energetic. The food is super quick and reasonably priced. The decorations are very appealing, being that they are NC State themed. If you're looking for a great lunch place, this is it!! P.S. Try the STP! More...
A very good, all around experience... New Hot Spot for Hartsville... Hoping at lunch... Food was good and the super friendly staff even better.
This is one of the better grouchos I've been to. Can't go wrong with the Apollo dipper, going here later today actually! Haha def recommend!
I called in a large order for a doctors office and I just needed to say the girl that took my order/rang me up was so nice and helpful. It was a confusing order and everything was different and she handled it so well and didn't get aggravated one time. She checked and recheck to make sure everything was right and even helped me walk it across the street to my car. It says a lot for a place to have staff that is kind even when things can get stressful. Way to go grouchos! I can't wait to rack up my reward points ;) More...
Been Several times and it keeps improving and getting better.I've been coming to Groucho's Deli for about three years now and while there were some problems with orders getting mixed up and poor service, it's only gotten better each time I have been. It is now to the point that I can give it an Excellent rating.Went week before last for lunch and ordered a Pastrami on Rye. My companion order the Corned Beef. Both came out of the kitchen in a matter of minutes. Sandwiches was hot, piled high with moist succulent meat and very well prepared.Service was excellent. Between our server Beth and the rest of the staff, there were absolutely no complaints. The restaurant was packed that day and everyone in the place was getting the same level of service.Restaurant is very well managed and I will definately be back. More...
If you're into sandwiches you definitely have to come here! This place is basically what I think of to eat at when one of my friends from out of town comes to visit me. It's the sauce that makes the sandwich! Personally, I don't like creamy sauces on sandwiches or dipping my chips into sauces, but this place changed that for me! I always get the Apollo which is turkey and ham with Swiss cheese and it's so good! Every sandwich comes with the sauce, a pickle, and chips. If you're driving through Columbia I definitely recommend stopping here. You won't regret it, and it might just make you come back for more! More...
The location has been the same for decades and the sandwiches are original classics. I always opt for the Apollo Dipper All Turkey with the 45 sauce. This week I changed it up and went with extra swiss -- a good decision!Parking gets tight in the back of the building, but it's tight everywhere in that general vicinity. Don't let that keep you from a yummy sandwich. It's a local dive with outgoing and friendly staff. They have sandwiching down to an art form and they share this craft with Columbia patrons every day. More...
Was here on business and loved this lunch spot. Very low key and fits right in with the surrounding town. I had the Apollo sub (turkey, ham, and cheese) with chips and pickle. The sub was a little small but it was extremely tasty. They give you a little side of sauce that was killer. I believe it was a thousand island a french dressing sauce. I wish there was one closer to me in Maryland. Other items looked great. The sub wasn't that big but did the job in filling me up. If I get down there again, Ill be visiting Grouchos. More...
Fast, good service and interesting location. Go for anything that comes with Formula 45 sauce.
Best sweet tea in town. The sandwiches and service are good, too. Did I mention how great the tea is?
Groucho's Deli is the place for all you toasted sub fans. They provide meaty, cheesy, melty sandwiches that definitely hit the spot if it's what you're craving. So if you're in the mood for Jimmy John's, this is the exact opposite place to go.Tucked in a small corner off of Hillsborough St., Groucho's is a quiet fast-casual spot, perfect for lunch or a pre-game meal before the night starts, as they also serve beer on tap and in bottle. People mainly come for the Specialty subs, but they do serve a wide array of regular sandwiches from vegetarian to tuna melts. Also, they have a surprisingly wide variety of salads.Groucho's has good, actually, great sandwiches here, but I have a few minute issues as well. I do wish that they had the option for larger subs, as the regular size is on the small side and can easily be finished by a regular college dude. Also, their add-on's are a bit pricey. If I could, I'd rate Groucho's 3.75 stars, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because of their great sauces. This place is definitely worth a try if you're wavering at all. More...
Definitely a favorite while I was in college and is still one of my favorite unique spots to eat. The "dipper" subs are awesome. The STP is my favorite, but no matter what sub you get the Formula 45 sauce is amazing! More...
Groucho's was a favorite of mine in Clemson, so I was extremely excited for it to open by NC State in Raleigh. I went in this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised by the size of the space and the love for NCSU as seen through the decor. If you are into delicious subs, this is a place for you. The two Grouchos sandwich staples are the Apollo and the STP Dippers, which feature meat and cheese on the most delicious "fat sub" roll. The best part is the special 45 sauce - a mix of Russian and Thousand Island. Each meal comes with chips (I opt for Baked) and a pickle. I'll certainly be back again soon! More...
Husband is addicted. He would go daily if he could. We're new to South Carolina and glad to have found a solid Sammy joint. 45 sauce is addicting. Salads are good. Need tomatoes though and eggs! More...
I mean, wow. This place was incredible. The sandwiches were huge and great tasting. The meat was fresh and hot; the cheese was sharp and flavorful. The different choices of dipping sauces was nice and they were all really amazing. And all at an unbelievably low price! I'm full for under $7 and that's sayin something. The atmosphere in the shop was very pleasant too. From the sizzle of the griddle in the back to the quiet conversation, this is a great place to stop in for lunch or dinner. Very pleased. This will be my first choice if ever in Statesville again! More...
I was wondering why a sandwich required an entire cup of dressing and when I tried it I understood why. I ordered a "Reuben variation" and was expecting a pretty standard reuben sandwich. Instead of Russian dressing on top, it was served with the "formula 45" dressing on the side. I admit as a Yankee I'm a little prejudice and thought it was something they did to cater to the morbidly obese. When I dipped my sandwich into the dressing to try it, everything made sense. This dressing is fantastic and worth the trip alone. I don't know if I could necessarily eat a whole cup (my SO and I only managed to consume half of it). The Reuben itself was pretty standard- the meat was a little on the skimp side compared to NY delis (enter the Mitch Hedberg joke about a few more slices of bread and some other people) but at 7 dollars it's not a bad price at all. I wouldn't mind it if they made it more expensive and put the "proper" amount of meat on it because the kraut was a tad too prolific. More...
This is restaurant is one of my favorites. The STP is awesome and I love their formula 45 sauce! Not too expensive and is easy to get in and out quickly if you have a short lunch.
Great hearty sandwiches served here. My young sons like the Jr. STP and the cheese sandwich. I like the Reuben Variation. Don't forget your crunchy pickle, potato chips and Groucho's 45 sauce. My favorite is the crushed ice in the drinks. More...
A+ to the team at Grouchos - the service is always top-notch, the prices are incredibly reasonable and the food is consistently good! This isnt your typical Subway sandwich joint, and I wouldnt come expecting any elaborate concoctions of new-age sandwiches, but Groucho's is a quick, reliable sandwich shop with good meat, gooey cheese and soft rolls. Highly recommend the STP Dipper! More...
Service, food and prices are spot on. It's clean and inviting. Try the STP dipper. You won't be disappointed!
Groucho's is my go to - I went to South Carolina and was thrilled when Raleigh finally got one! I always get the the all turkey Apollo and never have been disappointed. Its my happy place.
Was recommend by a friend of mine and I was pleasantly surprised. I am not a huge sandwich person but these were incredible! Soft, warm bread. Melt-in-your-mouth meats and cheese... Definitely going back for more! More...
An institution in 5 Points. Couldn't count how many times I've been here and I've never gotten anything but the STP Dipper and sweet tea. For me, that's all they need on their menu. More...
LOVE this place and was totally addicted when I attended USC for college! The all-turkey STP dipper was my go-to sandwich and the sauce that came on the side... OMG sooooo yummy!!!! This is a must whenever I am back in Columbia.... I'm having withdrawals! More...
BEST DELI EVER! Not only do they have a full bar and great food, but their prices are low and everyone is super friendly.
Try the STP Dipper! The 45 sauce is delicious! It is off Hiilsborough Street so it is convenient for State students.
Groucho's Deli is a SC favorite. I always get an all turkey apollo and devour every last drop of my formula 45 sauce. It doesn't matter which Groucho's you visit the taste is always consistent. It's always delivered fast and it's fairly priced. I lived in Lexington for a long time and always visited that location. I now live downtown but anytime i get together with friends for lunch someone always suggests the Lexington Groucho's. It isn't about the location, it's about the girls that work there. The staff has been there for years and they are always so friendly and remember you. That's pretty difficult considering the place fills up with entire sports teams and what often appears to be a table of 8 small kids and two adults. The place can get loud but the servers always have a smile on their face. My order has never been wrong at this location, i've never wanted to send anything back and i've never had to ask for a refill even when it's obvious they are slammed. Speaking of refills, there are only two places i will order sweet tea and Groucho's is one of them, it's divine! If you want the real Groucho's Deli experience visit the one in Lexington and you won't regret it. More...
I've heard about Groucho's and their 45 sauce since I first moved here but this was my first visit. The staff greeted me warmly , made sandwich suggestions and served the food fast. I chose the STP dipper with muenster instead of Swiss - it and the sauce made the drive worth it. I can see why everyone raves about the sauce - a cross between thousand island and some other things would make most sandwiches taste great. Theirs didn't need help - the meat was tender, juicy with lots of cheese - the sauce just took it to the next level. I'll be back! More...
This place is amazing! Very affordable, relaxed atmosphere, super friendly and helpful staff and most importantly - delicious food and cold beer! I went to school in Columbia and was thrilled when I heard that one had opened in Raleigh. The STP is my personal favorite, with their baked tomato basil chips, a cold PBR and of course their famous 45 sauce, a.k.a, pink crack. Most of the sandwiches come with a small side of this, but if not it's definitely worth ordering. As always, very impressed, and I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't had the opportunity to try it. More...
These guys are great. I eat there frequently and they are always friendly. Even when they make mistakes, they work to correct them. They even reached out to me via social media when I complained about my order and made it right. The best deli in town. More...
I would have given it a five star rating, but they were a server short and it took too long to order and receive our food. I had the Turkey and Roast Beef sandwich along with the house dipping sauce. Sandwich was excellent. You could tell it was fresh. More...
stp over Apollo! Good subs, kinda pricy but unique and fast service!!!! Great dipping sauce
After hearing a lot of hype about Groucho's, I finally got to drop by for the first time. I ordered the STP Dipper (with the 45 sauce), and it was incredible. I'll definitely be going back.
Amazing food! This is my third or fourth time here and have found everything to be amazing. The service is awesome, speedy, and most friendly. They have a decent beer list and the prices are comparable (if not a little cheaper) than the surrounding restaurants. I always look forward to dropping in!! More...
What a fantastic place to go get a sandwich that isn't overpriced. I left full and without spending more than ten dollars. Service was quick and very pleasant. Menu had some good standbys (tuna melt was fantastic) with some newer, original recipes thrown in. I don't know what's in their signature sauce but I couldn't get enough of it!Only complaint is that parking was a bit sticky, but that was to be expected around NC State. More...
Groucho's is a local institution/sandwich shop. The sandwiches themselves aren't particularly special, simple meat and cheese generally served in a hoagie. The 45 sauce that the restaurant is known for is what makes the food above average. Great for a quick lunch, affordable, well portioned. More...
Saw these guys pop up on Twitter and knew I had to go check them out. My future husband wakes up talking about sandwiches on the weekends, so I surprised him with a little adventure to somewhere new!Grouchos is in the old post office location off of Hillsborough street, which I think is cool. They are directly behind Jasmine's. I did not think about the fact that there would be NO nearby parking on a Sunday because of the church nearby, but other times, there is street parking behind, beside and in front of this place.First impression, it looks brand new and really clean - they did a great job renovating! Lots of seating, booth and table, and a full wraparound bar with lots of stools. Love the skylights that make it feel bright and open. Only two TVs which I thought was strange because they are definitely going for a sports bar-ish vibe. Even though it's a chain, they had some NCSU memorabilia on the walls, which we like! Had some beer on tap and in bottles - saw some Foothills and Sweetwater in between the Bud and Miller lite - semi local, so I'll take it!Pretty empty on Sunday at 12, and I think the word just hasn't gotten out yet. Two servers, both very helpful - suggested the STP dipper, which I was planning on ordering anyway based on David B's review. The back of their shirts said "curing hangovers since 1941" which made me laugh - this is definitely not a place to get a healthy meal. For less than $7, we got a decent sized sandwich, loaded with deli meat and melty cheese over bacon bits. Came with the dipping sauce (called 47 sauce I think?) that was a great mix of mayo based/russian dressing/dill. Definitely made the sandwich, and I loved dipping my chips in it too.The best thing about this place is we had sandwiches in hand maybe 3 minutes after ordering. SO FAST. not sure if it will always be like this, but they were ON IT on Sunday. If they stay open late, they will be a hit with NCSU students in the library studying late night. When I was in grad school all we had open late was Jimmy Johns and I would have loved to have this option! Will definitely go back to try some other offerings! More...
This is an awesome addition to Hillsborough Street! The sandwiches rock and the sauce is out of this world. The classic dippers are pretty big and the juniors are great if you're not super hungry as they are still sizeable. The staff is awesome! Groucho's did a great job of starting off with knowledge, friendly folk. I've been in a few times and they always recognize me and start up a conversation. Beyond that, the service is FAST! and they are on their game about refills (with that good crushed ice) Overall amazing experiences so far! More...
Having gone to USC and living a couple of blocks from the original Groucho's in Five Points, I was absolutely thrilled to find out that they were coming to Raleigh. I used to have to purchase the sauce and make my own sandwiches at home. Just not the same experience. Friendly staff, super fast service. I ordered my sandwich from the bar and the guys in the back heard the order and had it ready seconds after they got the ticket in the back. Get the sweet tea. Amazing. And with little crunchy pellet ice. I always get the STP dipper. The all turkey version is also good. You get this awesome secret sauce which is mayo based, and has lots of dill in it. Dip your sandwich, then dip your chips. You'll want to lick the dip cup clean it's so good. I'm thrilled to have Groucho's in Raleigh and look forward to many many more experiences here. I've already been twice in the first three days. More...
If your in Columbia or Lexington come by Groucho's and get yourself a STP with a sweet tea ! This place was my favorite lunch time spot for about fives years, nothing but good memory's.
I thoroughly enjoyed my pasta, green & feta salad and had THE best white chocolate macadamia nut cookie!
AMAZING. There was a location by my college at the beach and I missed it so much when I moved home. Then realized there was a grouchos in Rock Hill. I get the STP with turkey only - and the sauce/chips OMG. And seriously.. Why is the sweet tea so good here?! More...
Love me some Groucho's! Unique place with great sandwiches. Portions aren't huge, but for the price they are just right. You will leave feeling satisfied, not stuffed. Formula 45 sauce makes everything AMAZING! More...
Sauce, an addict's dreamHungover? It's Apollo timeNot grouchy at all-M.S.
Great Deli with Great Service! Yes it is a somewhat chain restaurant but the family runs the show here and does a good job. Attention to detail oriented and has many repeat customers. I would much rather go here than Subway, Blimpie or Quiznos because the food is better plus you don't have the 23 year old pot head jacking up your order behind the counter. Stop by it's well worth it. More...
Established in 1941 this Little Five Points location was the first Southern deli of its kind. I first encountered Groucho's in my first year of college, 1984, at USC (Go Cocks!) thanks to the finely developed palate of my roommate, Tara Lecouras (now Mrs. Meservey).Everything is hand-made and the last time I visited in 2010 I ordered the same thing I ordered the last time I was there in 1986.... "Just Cheese" Salad with Formula 45 Dressing and an Extra Large Spiced Tea.A wonderful, consistent taste sense memory. More...
Just had lunch at Groucho's Deli. Very friendly and helpful wait staff. It was a decent place to stop for a quick lunch. We had corned beef sandwiches on Jewish rye bread. EXCELLENT flavor. HOWEVER...not much to the sandwich. Not like the deli sandwiches I have grown up on. The cost was good, only $6.39, but very little meat. Perhaps to keep the cost down. I would have preferred to pay an extra dollar and have a half of a sandwich to take with me, rather than feeling hungry when I left. Yes, I will give it one more try while visiting Rock Hill. The menu is long with many delectable sounding items. More...
Everything about Groucho's is awesome, and they're about to open a store in Raleigh too! Groucho's is unique to Columbia SC and is spreading their wings. Watch out, Jimmy Johns... Groucho's is going to blow you away :) They serve late-night sandwiches on Thurs-Saturday!! The owner/manager even gave me a free dessert just because :) great PR guys! This little deli serves up some amazing sandwiches with their house chips... and 2 sandwiches were only $15! The bread was extremely fresh, and the meat was freshly sliced. They call their sandwiches "Dippers" because they all have a dipping sauce that makes the sandwich extra tasty. Their STP dipping sauce is very similar to a 1000 island sauce but has a little kick and is delightful. Groucho's service is on par, their food is excellent, and their prices are unbeatable. I wish they'd share this local treat with the rest of the country because this is the place to go for sandwiches! I hope they can get a Yelp event in Raleigh soooooon! More...
If you come in knowing what it is it's great. Just a simple deli place. Always good. Turkey Bacon club has a quarter pound of bacon it seems. STP and the Rueben are great as well. The brownies are fantastic! Worth checking out if a sandwich is what you're looking for. More...
The sandwiches are really tasty and different, and the special sauce is terrific; but a couple of things keep Grouchos from getting 5 stars:1) They serve pepsi. I know Pepsi was started in New Bern NC, but I still won't give a place that serves Pepsi 5 stars.2) We had 5 bags of chips with our sandwiches. Two of them were stale, right out of the bag. 3) Bread was slightly tough - maybe microwaved a little too long?Glad we came here in any event, it's a yummy and cool USC hangout. More...
Wowza! Best sandwiches in Lexington! The roast beef sandwich is my favorite! Huge delicious roll with a pile of thin sliced beef and a fantastic dipping sauce! 3 times we've picked up lunch to go and have never been disappointed. I cannot wait to try all of their sandwiches! More...
A local college town deli and Columbia staple for decades. Great for lunch. Must try some chips in 45 sauce. Salads are good too.
Solid sandwiches served hot if you like them that way. The formula 45 sauce is what really makes the place though. I swear you can dip anything in that stuff (I usually finish off my chips with whatever is left over after my sandwich). Great quick lunch stop, the only downside may be that it's getting a little run down after being in business for so long. Could use some new furniture and decor! More...
great little sandwich shop. I got the turkey club. They should call it the bacon club, because it is loaded with bacon! needless to say i loved it.
A Columbia institution and every time I visit Columbia, a trip to Grouchos is required. It's all about the 45 sauce and that is why the sandwiches are simple. The sauce is unreal. I think it's a variation of a russian/thousand island dressing. Many people around town agree and the place is usually busy. My favorite is their roast beef as this is the best meat I've had there (skip the turkey). Their cookies are some of the softest anywhere and almost as great as that 45 sauce. Try the berry/white chocolate chip cookies. Sandwich chips and a pickle for around 6.50$ can't be beat. If you're in the area it's a must try place. More...
best deli in Columbia by far. Great lunch after a hard night of partying, friendly staff and a great owner! When I was in town I would go here 3-6 times a week!
There is a reason this place has been here so long....it's awesome! Our sandwiches were hot, fresh and loaded. I'm so over Subway and their robotic style of sandwich making. This could have come from Mom's kitchen, the way it was made! Service was great, too. Can't wait to go back! More...
Everyone has their favorites but I think we all agree... the 45 sauce is the real gem!Started going to Groucho's in Five Points when I was in college at USC. It's an institution in Columbia and you can always find a good mix of students, business people and families grabbing lunch there.Salads and sandwiches are the backbone of the restaurant and while none of them are really anything to write home about exactly, adding the 45 sauce makes them special. I personally always go for the all turkey STP dipper. It comes with turkey, cheese and bacon pieces on a soft roll. Extra 45 sauce on the side please! I dip everything in it... sandwich, chips, even the pickle. The only downside of Groucho's (and why it doesn't get that 5th star) is that they do microwave their sandwiches to melt the cheese and occupationally they microwave it a tad too long and the bread gets a little tough. Also, this particular location has been around a while and there's definitely been some wear and tear to the seating area. I think it might be a good investment if they upgraded their tables, chairs and the flooring. Just a general face lift but not a total overhaul. I know that part of the draw is that it reminds everyone of old times. That said... it's delicious and I recommend checking it out (or one of the other many locations popping up across the state). Definitely try the 45 and I'm pretty sure you can buy a bottle of it to take home with you. More...
There are some days only a Reuben will do it for you, and Groucho's executes this creation with true finesse. If you've never had a Reuben, this place will spoil you for sure(....)Read the rest of the review here: examiner.com/article/the… More...
DELICIOUS. Love the White Moose!!! The sauce is fabulous also! :)
I grabbed lunch to go from Groucho's today and was really glad it was to go (will get to that in a sec!). The ladies at the register were friendly and helpful. I asked which vegetarian sandwich they recommended and was told the Veggie Italian Sub is pretty good. For $5.79 it comes with a choice of chips and is quite the bargain. Now to explain why I was glad the sandwich was to go, once I opened the container and looked inside, I was surprised to see more of an open sandwich than a sandwich with two slices of a sub, it was interesting to say the least! The dipping sauce the sandwich came with, which was I believe their Formula 45 dressing, tasted great, and the sub was delicious. But I was soo happy my lunch was to go and that I was eating alone, cause I'm not going to lie, it was one messy meal with food and sauce dripping, um, everywhere! Still it was definitely a satisfying and filling meal and one that left me content. If you haven't been, it's a good deli in downtown Columbia with a nice variety of sandwiches and salads, worth giving a try. More...
This review will be totally biased. My family has been eating at Grouchos for generations. I'm a vegetarian but make an exception for the Grouchos STP dipper, dubbing myself a Grouchoterian. It is literally the only thing I have ever eaten off the menu and I've been eating there my whole life. The 45 sauce is spoonable. Many a drunk nights, I have feasted on nothing but the sauce. The original location is seedy, overrun by college students, and has horrible parking, but I still love it with all my heart. And they have crushed ice, Dr. Pepper, and Diet Dr. Pepper. Every person I have brought there with me falls in love with it, too, but perhaps obsession is contagious. More...
Friendly staff, good place for a quick dinner. Prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is extremely pleasant. But to be fair the owners are good friends of mine and make for an overall good conversation with anyone that enters.
"Great food" covers it, but I'll give some more detail. That's not to say that it's wrong. It is great food.My customer suggested Groucho's as an alternative to the fast food joint that I had been frequenting. Good choice! A very quick look at the menu and my eye was drawn to the first thing on there - the Apollo Dip. Ham and turkey with melted cheese. It was heavenly. Not the largest portion, but the right size for lunch. I left full but not stuffed. As for why they call it that, I have NO idea. The sweet tea was excellent.Tip: Try to avoid the peak lunch rush. The courthouse is nearby and it can get rather busy during that time. More...
It blows my mind when people say they don't like Groucho's!I've NEVER had something here that I didn't like. I always get the Groucho's BLT and it is loaded with bacon. Add American cheese if you get it. Insist on their special sauce too--I won't say the name so you ask for it when you go! It is a weird combination of ingredients, but SO tasty! The STP dippers are good and most things you get will be filling enough to take 1/2 of it home. More...
This is a great place for lunch or to hang out with friends. They always have new and fun beers to try and the service is always great. Something I wish they could improve upon are the tough hoagie rolls on some of the sandwiches, so you definitely can't have dentures to enjoy, but they have other amazing sandwiches to eat! Wish they had more of a chip variety as well, considering it's their main side, but I quickly forget all my complaints when I hear the music there. All around great place. More...
Every sandwich I have ordered is great. I love their signature dressing. Unlike most sandwich shops who pour mayo or other dressings on their subs, the veggies are tossed with the signature dressing. I will definately visit again.
The Apollo is a mainstay any time I visit a local Groucho's. The staff is always friendly and the food is great. Don't listen to the people with a lack of taste buds.
Good selection, perfect "hometown deli" kind of place.
Quick and Easy! The original Groucho's is in Cola...that's Columbia, SC for the out-of-staters. Harold "Groucho" Miller was a typical entrepreneur that thought he had something special. Indeed he did! Groucho's isn't known for having the same food that other sandwich shops have. Groucho's is known for unique sauces and salads. After living in Cola for a number of years, I was happy to see Groucho's open a location across the street from one of the South's top-rated universities...Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC.The food is great and the recipes are the same as the original location. The crowd is a mix of Winthrop professors and students, and locals. The service at Groucho's is always friendly, but they realize their priority is to take orders and deliver food. The price is moderate and the portions aren't skimpy. If you haven't eaten at a Groucho's, you should try it at least once.Try: The Brown Moose with a Sweet, Malty, Buttery Rogue Dead Guy Ale
