Grande Colonial Hotel

I arranged a room as a surprise for my parents’ 40th wedding anniversary, after an evening celebrating with friends and family at the Grande Colonial. They were overjoyed at the attention to detail, cleanliness, and attentiveness of the staff. After hosting a dinner party there I don’t know if anywhere else could match it. This place is in the center of town. Walking distance to everything! It is connected to Nine Ten restaurant which is an amazing restaurant. My boyfriend and I shared a 5 course pairing meal with wine and it was unbelievable!When we first arrived we wanted a hotel room with a fireplace. The only problem was we couldn't get our fireplace to work but they then sent Maintance and worked on it for a while. Since that fireplaces didn't work they upgraded us to a suite with another place that worked! This is a charming classy boutique hotel. It was a welcome change from the sameness of chain hotels. It has one of the best location in La Jolla with nature and ocean facing rooms one one side and the vibrant life of La Jolla on the other. I could not be more happy to have decided to stay here.||||But that's not what made us 'wow'. It was the staff at this hotel that made the biggest difference.||||The front desk was very helpful and not just trying to push their own agenda like most chain hotels do. Their recommendations of walks, places to visit, have a coffee or lunch were spot on. This place is beautiful and through the instructions of the front desk we could enjoy it more.||||But it does not stop here.||||We were wondering around the pool area when we talked to the gardener. He showed us the other side of the hotel with new additions and rooms. Then asked if we need any help and thanked for staying with them. The Grande Colonial in La Jolla is a small, 4 story boutique hotel in ocean-front La Jolla. Not your average hotel: reception is personalized, our room felt less hotel-like and more apartment-style and the pool is a round one with no staff on site. On the other hand, the location is phenomenal, close to many major attractions in La Jolla and just beyond and the quietude of the hotel did lend itself very well to a more serene, relaxing atmosphere, which was highly conducive to rest and rejuvenation. Best location a block from the beach/ walking path and steps from many restaurants including the hotel restaurant, which was excellent, the pool was large enough to enjoy a dip with large pool towels, elegant rooms with up to date decorations and lovely shower/shampoo

If you are looking for a small and quaint hotel you can’t beat the Grande Colonial on Prospect street in La Jolla. Smack dab in the middle of everything it has all the bells and whistles. Most importantly, from the valet service to the check in, your reception will leave you feeling very important. The views and sunsets over the ocean will long remain a memory that is not to be forgotten. We really enjoyed our stay here in September 2019. Great location a block away from the beach, historic building, so older but very well maintained, nice rooms, comfortable beds. ..Lots of shops and restaurants nearby.|Everyone who works here is nice and helpful.|The pool area is nice, but kinda small, to us it didn't matter we came to spend time on the beach.|The only thing I wish that there were balconies in the rooms...otherwise it was great.|One more thing - they have valet parking that's very convenient, but parking on the side street next to the hotel is absolutely free. I stayed here for two nights in August to move my daughter for school. Layout is odd in a charming way due to the age of the hotel. Decor was lovely. Our company took a group of around 80 people to this fantastic boutique hotel. We spent a lot of time on due diligence before going of course but the hotel, staff and management EXCEEDED our expectations in every category I can think of. All of our attendees are still talking about the experience as one of the best they have ever had. LOCATION is about as great as it gets for La Jolla so not much more I can say about that. Rooms were excellent. Especially enjoyed the lobby area and proprietary restaurant and bar on property...but the FOOD and SERVICE we received for all of our group functions and gatherings really was outstanding. Lovely stay. Have stayed here before several times but this was out first visit since the renovations--rooms are very nicely updated and fresh. The only issue we encountered was that the bathroom light was on a motion sensor and would turn on every time you went near the bathroom--this was kind of a problem in the middle of the night. We called the desk for help but they said the technician/handyman was off site. Not a big deal but...all in all, a lovely stay. I would just prefer the lights be controlled by the guest and not on any automatic motion sensor. More...

I had a room on the fifth/top level of the hotel with an awesome view of the ocean! My room was nicely decorated--modern bathroom, crisp sheets, and whimsical nautical striped curtains--loved the room's spaciousness, especially in the closet! The hotel is older, but has kept up its appearance and quality. Love the dental molding around the top edge of the elevator, the big wide staircases, and all of the detailed molding throughout the hotel itself. I have stayed there twice- once in the main hotel and once in the little hotel by the sea. I enjoyed both stays, but the later was the best and included a jacuzzi style bathtub. They have a super friendly staff working at the valet station and front desk. The rooms I stayed in were very nice, spacious, and modern. I enjoyed their super comfortable mattresses and linens, had one of the best nights sleep in a long time. The rooms are also pretty sound proof. The turndown service was a nice extra touch.
